Filleting Halibut, simple and easy to follow from start to finish.
Visiting the SF Bay Area in July. Friends set out on a boat trip while I stayed behind to fish from shore for halibut. I got my limit of halibut but no keepers. California halibut have to be 22" inches to harvest. The boat came back with 3 halibut and I want to thank Allan for showing us how he fillets the fish. The whole process from start to finish. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

    For your leader to the main line, at 15:52, are you using the same weed wacker .065 line as you used for the snare loops? Is that okay to do that or did you use mono filament 100 lbs? Thanks!

    • @BackFishing
      @BackFishing 9 дней назад

      That's just to attach to my main line (weed wacker .065) but now for my loops I prefer 150 lb mono to 200 lb especially for the heavier dungeness. Smaller crabs like targeting blue crabs east coast or red rocks 100 lb would do well.

      Thank you for the answer. That's getting up there for the fish. Just think guessing 10 lb to 15 lbs would be 8 years to 10 years? Probably not the best for harvesting since it starts to build up toxins in their meat especially belly and the head.

    • @BackFishing
      @BackFishing Месяц назад

      Birds are an indication of bait around the area which draw big fish. Schooling fish salmon/stripers/perch will definitely be attracted to them and may stay around. Early morning is typically good for all fishing in general. Night especially good for stripers.

So a similar experience for me in a similar setting, but without all the waves, just sand and calm waters, was in astoria 2 years ago, when there were expanding out all the beach recreation access areas with massive construction going on... it was at the further access point before deading... it was either point "C" or "D"(which ever was the furthest out)...it was so peaceful there with no tides really and ships just going back and forth in the distance...and just monster crabs on snares... and water level is like netarts at slack, so that you can just even walk out with a regular trap and drop it there too at waist high... i can share this because im leaving the country next year and i know you wont reveal it.
