For lures like soft plastic or flies. Try more shiny stuff. It works. Cast masters is a good one to use. If using bait use squid, shrimp or octopus. Make sure to coat it in salt for the squid and octopus the night before. Makes it more firm. I live here on Oahu and it's good to see people coming from around the world to try out fishing here on the islands. There is also a place in wahiawa where you can catch small and large mouth bass peacock bass and catfish too. But you need to go online to buy a license to fish for them. Be careful there. Lots of homeless in the area.
You cannot fish at walls. From kapahulu ave all the way to the western wall of the natatorium is closed to fishing permanently, no open season. That uncle was not supposed to be fishing there
I wish I saw this sooner lol. Visited Oahu last year and skunked. We did see a lot beautiful fish at the harbor but none of them bit for some reason. I hooked up on a stocky hawkfish but it popped off as I lifted it up. Awesome video as always!
Thanks for the comment. Next morning at "the wall" end of Kapahulu St. A local fisherman caught a beautiful 6 - 7lb bluefin trevally "Omilu" using live bait. Working on that video.
Back in the mid-80s, when the oama starting to run in July & Aug, Waikiki was choke but you would have to put up with all the tourist asking you the same questions over and over!!!
Pleasure to meet fellow outdoorsman. Just exploring the area. Love learning how things are done locally. I went last night but the water was so rough and full moon. Why is it bad fishing during full moon? Do you know?
Nice catches! I was in Maui last month and caught a needlefish that was probably about 30" and it was pretty cool! Super slimy tho too! I was also using various colors of Kastmaster
I know they are super slimy when I showed the viewers the first catch. Next one I didn't try touching as slime is there protection from disease. They are cool fish that fish backwards too. Tight lines.
I was there at Hilton village last year saw people catching with shrink bait , by the way the lagoon behind you has some fish , me and my daughter catches few and released them hahaha we called then little mahalos 😂
@@BackFishing yes and also I throw some shrimp on the hock close to Hilton , I catches some fish it’s kinda look like perch not sure ….. thank you as always for this amazing contain …. Super entertaining .

That's not a trumpet fish but a cornet fish, the two are closely related.
Learn something everyday. Thanks for the pointing it out.
The corner of that jetty get plenty aholehole if you go during high tide
Shootz..next time. I did notice the difference in low to high is only 2 ft of water on the island. Does that still make a difference? Mahalos.
@@BackFishing makes a difference. They go inside the jetty at low tide
