Love this pier, I used to catch many croaker, rock crabs, of course lots of perch/Jack smelts, one time I even hooked a couple of stingrays and gave me great fight.
You mentioned that Sabikis are one of the main reasons for population decline in a lot of species at the pier. Is this becuse of their success rate at catching fish? Or is there another reason they hurt local fish populations? Thanks. Love the history lesson on the pier!
I just think Sabikis are sometimes too successful at catching fish, especially small fish, and here many people keep everything they catch. More small fish in the water would attract more large fish.
As far as I know the pier is open. Unfortunately I have not been able to contact the local sources I usually use for information but I have not found anything saying it is closed.
@Ken Jones Thanks for your quick reply! I finally saw that the Google search where I located a news article about the pier being closed due to storm damage was from 2021. 🤦🏻♂️ I was just there on Thursday and it was great! The crab harvest wasn't as bountiful as hoped but we had a good time with the locals and the WCC. I have to give them a shout out for their very succesful efforts to unsnag my crab snare. But more importantly, their dedication to leave no snare, trap or net behind. Heroes in my book!
Have you fished Pacifica Pier? What did you think about this video?
Not yet.
Very informative, I enjoyed it. Thanks
Very informative and great to watch!
I have gone crabbing there. Unfortunately I caught nothing. I’d like to give it another go for surf perch
We should have a collection for the pier and Ventura pier.
I remember fishing there with my grandpa in my younger days.
Hopefully after this hectic weather lots of fish will come in and this pier can provide lots of food/fun for the locals!!!!
I'M BUYING THAT BOOK!
Thanks for the new content,I was at catalina feb20 before the storm and boy were the sheepshead biting and some bonies too
Informative as usual. Learned something new. The proper name of the pier.

Ken, would you know if the pier is open after all the damaging weather in January?
As far as I know the pier is open. Unfortunately I have not been able to contact the local sources I usually use for information but I have not found anything saying it is closed.

Would love to fish Pacifica some day . Thanks for the video. By the way, is that a Wylie hat and if so, do they still sell it ?
I don't sell the Wylie hats, I just wear them. Ginny still sells the hats at the shop.
Hopefully this pier doesn't end up with the same fate as the Berkeley Pier.
People need to practice Catch and Release plus follow CA fishing regulations. More enforcement by Game Wardens is necessary.
