- Ivy and Gordon have been married for 52 years. We asked them what they think the secret is to a long and happy marriage.
"Be honest with each other. And if you make a mistake, talk it over. Don't let it fester. We agree together, and we have fun together. Laughter - it's a good medicine."

My parents were married 68 years. They laughed like this couple. My Mom is 92. My Dad joined the Ancestors 4 1/2 years ago. The BEST Dad ever and all 8 of us agree. We never wanted for anything, he made sure of that.AND, he had an army of women behind him. His Mother, Wife, 5 older sisters and 3 daughters 😊. Every valentine's day, he looked like a very promiscuous man...he bought LOTS of candy. My mother chose well.

This story is a big slap to all those couples who fights and get separated for petty things and lost the opportunity to be humble and really understand what love really means. Love is not about us or about the benefits we get from it, it's really about the caring of our other half even at the face of suffering.

I don’t see this as a slap to those that separate and get a divorce. This is an example of what marriage should be.
Well it's not a slap, because sometimes what you consider as "petty" may not as it seems for your partner. A bunch of petty things can bring you down mentally if you both can't communicate well and have the self-awareness to apologize and forgive each other.
They are so cute. After 51 years， they are holding hands and laugh together . Sweet couple. 👍
That they can still make each other laugh, after all this time, is so special :)

Omgosh ... how lovely is this couple. I"m on my third and last marriage. I finally figured it out - what a woman needs in a man, even if its not what she wants - what you 'need' pulls you into a deep love. Thank goodness I didn't stay in the others and settle. We have been together 50 years but he is like my carerpartly invalid bedridden, just that. We talk we fight, there is no affection atall i dont think he feels anything for me, just sorry for me, i do t want it. I could hardly manage but i would rather try than be faced with this. I do t love him either, who can love their carer?
Sorry to hear that you find yourself feeling this way. There is a book that speaks about the five love languages, one of which is acts of service - in your case, caregiving. The caregiver role is one that is full of so many emotions and yet the central expression is love. It is true that some people give care out of a sense of obligation, but most have the driving force of love and devotion. You might well find that this relates to your partner?
