I do miss watching Nugget do his zoomies like he did at the Coghill #1. But I get a giggle out of watching Moody race with you, Jason. What a hoot!

Here in Central Pennsylvania, we had a hail storm yesterday. The size of the hail was from pea size to a quarter size. It was so bad with wind gusts that a huge pine tree snapped and fell across the road over power lines. Such a mess with down branches also. My Mom wanted to plant our tomatoes and I had just told her no due to our weather still getting to cold at night. So glad I did not plant the garden yet. 🙋

I haven't watched the whole podcast, but I have something to do. However, so glad to hear your storm room is installed! I enjoy the podcasts as much as the videos, but I completely understand how it's all too much. Skip a video and/or podcast from time to time (how ever often you need to) - - construction won't last forever. Stay well! :o)

Brook, you talk about how hot it is and sunny. I know you are not a vain person,but you need to use sun screen on your face and. You are use to the shade at the old place and you are getting to much sun. I am worried you could get skin cancer. You have a lot of summer yet and you need to protect yourself. You need a good hat too. This goes for Jason, and Mary Carl too. Love your podcast I am and old farm girl so I know what I am talking about. I envy you the strawberries and peaches I almost drool listening to you talk about the fruit. We live in New Mexico so we don’t get much fruit now we do have some darn good Chile. I love your podcast! It's like visiting the nextdoor neighbor. It's been a hard week for us this week, but my Magnolia is blooming and Cog Hill shows up through the week so it was a good week. Everything at Cog Hill is sure changing. The house is shaping up. The animals have new homes, and the "old barn" looks so special. New animals added too! New birds flying overhead! A big pond and an orchard started to boot! It's just wonderful to watch. Thank you so much.

It’s called loose as a goose. Hemp is very invasive and hard to get rid of.

At the farmhouse my grandparents had a yellow plum tree, the BEST ever!!!
My father was into brewing wine and, a particular wall in the living room had the most even temperature and 5 jugs going. My mother's new preacher decided to do unannounced, get to know you, home visits. It was an uncomfortable half hour as the 5 jugs were making noise bubbling with the scent of fermenting grapes and yeast perminating the air. Not sure what else happened elsewhere but unannounced home visits didn't last past the end of the month.
the timbers are wonderful! To keep them in place, drill a hole thru them and drive a piece of rebar thru the hole and into the ground. I did my patio this way about 15 years ago. and they have not budged! I noticed how you did the rose arbor.

That's what happens to us where I live in my neck of the woods. The storms look like they're gonna hit us, and then just as you said, they split and go right around us, so we don't get a drop.

As homesteaders might it make sense to make some rain collection surfaces and rain storage cisterns? As high as the yearly rain fall is there it would be the simplest thing to build a system where your water needs for irrigation and for cooking and for drinking and for bathing for the year would come from rain alone. I know that that sort of self sufficiency isn't your thing. You don't do a big solar, you've only done a bit of swales to sink water into the ground, but you could be much better stewards if the money allows to build the systems. Love you either way.
I was born in 1955 and when I was a kid people were moving away from rain collection for some reason. In a Texas Panhandle dry climate we used to play in abandoned underground cisterns all of the time as country kids will. Millions of gallons still stored that no one ever used. Fun for us with just the creepiest flickery light coming from an opening above as we swam and played. Of course with modern knowledge and systems we can do better, but they did fine until folks abandoned the land.
