      Hi Jan, I’m just joining the conversation. I live in northern Az, Pinetop/Showlow, and Prescott. So not all areas are sweltering hot 🥵, so I think there would be different plants for different areas. I had Morning Glories in Prescott. Don’t remember what I had in Pinetop. I just wanted to clear of the misconception that all of Arizona is hot and dry. I do like the “ Dry Heat “ so much better than humidity, any day !! 👍🦂🦎🌞💚💞☃️❄️🌲🌳

    • @carolynchadwick7867
      @carolynchadwick7867 2 года назад +3

      @Liz Regan - Trellising & heavy pruning are better suited to humid regions, which helps keep fruit from being overshadowed by leaves, & prone to get mold, fungi, blight, bacteria, & insect infestation. And the hot bright sunlight, & dryness, would damage the fruit.

    • @donnajoyner1474
      @donnajoyner1474 2 года назад +3

      @@lizregan1949 the sun is so intense even the bark on the trees gets damaged and splits unless it gets whitewashed or shaded. The fruit would get burnt and split. Here in Tucson we don't prune tomato plants and expose the fruit to the sun like people do in other areas. The skin gets leathery and tough and splits. So we leave the leaves on and shade the plants if possible. Because we don't have much humidity we don't have many problems with diseases caused by that.

      @victoriabaker4400 2 года назад +2

      We used them for years, both in New Orleans for keeping chickens, and then on our farm on acreage in southwest Mississippi (both in a climate that promote flies). The only time we had a fly problem was when I stopped the fly-eliminator shipments a couple of times because "we didn't have a fly problem". Yeah, they REALLY work. Folks just need to be sure to order the size that's big enough for their property and number of animals, and know that it's a monthly thing, and sometimes every 3 weeks at the height of fly season. In the winter of course they aren't needed.

    • @joanneriley3899

    • @victoriabaker4400
      @victoriabaker4400 2 года назад

      @@joanneriley3899 Well, first, you need to release them in the evening, when it's almost dark or later. The company I buy from says it can be early morning as well, but I think evening is safest. The idea is that it's dark, they can't see anything else, so they stay put and then that's where they now live. On a farm property, it's generally large enough that they aren't going off elsewhere, and certainly as long as there are flies and fly-producing environments they have no need to leave. In the city, I followed the same protocol, and maybe the fly-predators visited the neighboring properties, but that only helps me more if the surrounding properties are benefiting. In any case, as I mentioned, you generally sign up for an ongoing program. The company I buy from, you can pay for the full season at once, or each shipment they will debit a card on record.
      In heavily fly-endemic areas like places that have hot days, warm nights, and lots of rain, combined with animals, animal bedding, and perhaps compost piles or stacks of hay or straw, they recommend a shipment every 3 weeks at the height of the season. But either way, every 3-4 weeks you are replenishing (I don't know how long their lifespan is but it's probably not very long) the supply.
      Just to add-- it's really important to follow the directions.

It had a lot of green branches, bad heart wood, likely spun off branches before approaching the house roof althiugh by definition we don't have tornados, and left a hope in a groip of other trees. We had "the tree guy" come over and we decided to drop 2 more trees and got them dropped less than 48 hours before another, unannounced wind storm. Since then we've "had some wind" including quite a bit on and off this past week. - We are so glad we addressed our increasing winds preemptively.

    Muskadines will have to be cut in half and the seed removed before freeze drying. The seeds will not dry and will keep the machine running for days. Also the skin on grapes keeps them holding the moisture so that is why you cut them in half. Anything with a high sugar content will have the sugar bubble up and form a sugar shell on tb9e outside of the fruit.

    I am probably driving you nuts, but I have several questions. I think a Marycarl tee-shirt would be amazing. One with all 3 of you with animals would be great, also. ?

    The simpler the cornbread the better! Love hearing a recipe that doesn't include flour, especially.

    Love your podcasts and videos. I found you all by accident a couple of months ago and I sat there and watched podcasts and videos for days. Never a dull moment on a farm. I love all animals. You have an aurora around each one of you that gives people a relaxed feeling and are the epitome of great role models for anyone who watches your family. Thank you for giving us your time. I tell everyone I know about your family and the feedback I get is that they get hooked like I did. Prayers for you all.

    Here's a corn pudding recipe you can do in a microwave, even in your trailer. Take a baking dish and put 1 stick of butter in it. Melt the butter for 30 seconds in the microwave. Add in 1 can of whole kernel corn (drained), 1 can of creamed corn, 1 cup of sour cream and 1 box of Jiffy Mix corned bread. Mix it well. Cover and put back into the microwave on high for 20 to 25 minutes. Enjoy!

    I agree with others, you have no reason to defend yourselves! These people are just pot stirrers and looking to make trouble and create chaos! Ignore them and don’t waist your time on them! I love everything you all stand for and appreciate what I learn from you and also the entertainment factor! Your way works for you! Enough said!! 🤗💕🦆🦃🐄🐐🐈‍⬛🐓🦢🐖🦮🦚💕

    I want to thank you for doing what makes you happy. I love watching every aspect of your life with the animals and gardens. I am anxiously waiting to see all of your ideas and dreams come into fruition. I live in a small community where I am not allowed to have a couple of chickens, but I enjoy trying to decide which ones I would want if I was. Please continue on doing what makes you happy.

I love all your videos and pod casts, they are just so educational and entertaining. Especially from sweet and kind people like you all are. 🥰🥰🥰

    Laura from Garden Answer has a BIG garden and she picks up vases from thrift stores to make flower arrangements to take to nursing homes and shut ins. People just love to get fresh flowers, it makes them happy. Just plop some blooms in a vase and give someone some flowers!

    I cleaned my refrigerator out last Wednesday and did my pantry shelves Thursday! My raccoons and opossums were very happy! I was so happy until I went into my backyard and they broke into my compost bin! I had given them everything they could eat out for them, I guess they wanted more! I will be so glad when you have a storm shelter, I worry about you all every time there is a storm! Can't help it, I love you guys!
