Forgive me if I've told this story. Peter Straus used to have peacocks on his ranch. The males stayed st the ranch while the females migrated across Mullholland Highway to have their babies in a community of rural homes (expensive high end rural mansions,). The males would cross the highway daily which gave me no end of worry. One day I come around the corner and a large male peacock is all fanned out and taking his time about crossing the highway to visit his lady friends. And there lined up 2 by 2 and about 20 deep are a group of Hells Angles, full rocker panels on their leather jackets, sitting patiently waiting for the peacock to cross the road. If I'd only had a camera.
Yes they do, I knew several when I was in my early 20s, joined them on several goodwill events for seniors & children, food, toys & raising money. But they did not like to have it advertised, not really positive why!❤ Do love the peacock story for sure!🤗
The word Hell is in their name, however, also the word Angels accompanies it.....Never judge a book by its cover. They do much good work under the cover of anonymity.

Yes, she should decide about her art herself. Personally as a young artist myself, & mother of an adult daughter who is a professional artist & art teacher, I can honestly say MC is already on her way. She could already start her own line of fashion with her bird art. I am serious. If she did women's shirts, sweatshirts & tee-shirt, I'd love one.
As someone who many consider as creative, it's very hard to produce art for production purposes. I get anxiety and it gets overwhelming which shuts down your creative thoughts. I might make 2 items alike and that's it. And people tend to not understand your time you put into something when you go to price it. Designing a shirt could he cool and letting someone else do the production runs would help. But let her put out what she wants. I make things on my time and then maybe once a year sell some to get back some of my material costs. But rarely do I make enough to cover my labor. And people always want me to make things for them...its too stressful. My art is my creative side for my enjoyment. When others want to put me on a production schedule it takes the joy out of it. And we all need to find joy in life these days.
Judy, i so agree with you. My fears were related to my self confidence. I never thought i was good enough or would be bought. (But the were) i was afraid of failure.

As an art teacher I see Mary Carl's talent. Practice is the best advice I can give....try a lot of different materials. There is no right or wrong way to draw. It is not unusual for preteen artists to be hesitant to share their creativity. Mary Carl you are very very talented!
I saw where they are encouraging high school grads to get CDL licenses. My best friend (woman) drove semis for years all across the country. She really enjoyed it.
if you want a rose archway, check with Jess @ Roots & Refuge farm. She had a gorgeous rose archway and it was a coral/orangey colored climbing rose that was JUST absolutely gorgeous. I can't recall the name of it off hand but it was awesome! You could just have this at the entrance to your fruit orchard. I've never seen such a more beautiful climbing rose.

My mother-in-law had a compost pile and she would put out the pits and skins from peaches we had bought, by the peck, every summer. One year a peach tree came up. We babied that tree for 5 years! The first year it produced fruit, they were woodie and sour! We left it for one more year, and our place was hit by a tornado, and that peach tree was twisted off at the ground! I've got my whole family hooked on homemade peach ice cream. My Great Grandad came up with an ice cream recipe for ice cream which had no eggs in it because he was allergic to eggs and so am I. Everyone fallowed the recipe for years until I started turning it into different flavors. I love peaches so I made peach ice cream. Now everyone makes peach or banana nut. For a family get together we assign flavors. Chocolate, peach, strawberry, vanilla or butterfinger (not made with the candy bar.) I came up with the different favors for our recipe over 40 years ago.
When Mary Carl sets her mind to learn anything she excels at it. She is such an incredible young lady. Mary Carl is very mature for her age. Look how much she knows about her various birds. She is just such a sweetheart.
My dad drove an international semi truck for over 20 years and absolutely loved it! When he did it was easy to get a CDL but unfortunately some people took advantage of it. The amount of miles driven was how much they could earn but the rules of how much they were driving could get you into trouble and that is why they put rules on how much you could drive and log books were checked to make sure you didn't over drive your allowance. My dad met a lot of drivers who used drugs to drive without sleep to make the most amount of money and they falsified their log books to not get in trouble. It made it hard for dad to keep driving so he retired. Making the rules harder only caused drivers to find short cuts around them. Stay interstate and drive minimally so you can be home every night - you will be happier!
Take a look at the Joseph's Coat climbing rose! It is so vibrant it is like a neon light with shades between yellow and cranberry red. You get all the colors in-between!

@Cog Hill Farm, growing up in Indiana in our back yard, the long walkway from the big patio we called, the grape arbor! Great memories! Our nextdoor neighbor had a yummy mulberry tree and I have never seen another one around in 30 years. Oh the memories of berry picking with my 5 sisters and baking everything anything. We had 9 kids in my family and on our back porch we had two 8ft deep freezers , one was for all the fruits and veggies from summer harvest and the other for all the fish and wild game.. turtle, squirrel, deer, coon,chickens and the only thing in that freezer that I still gag even thinking was .. my dads friend was a butcher and he would give dad the cow tongues, heart, liver! The boys did the hunting and all of us worked that huge few acres of garden and flowers. Sorry for rambling on but you just brought memories back. So happy for the beginning of the build! Great podcast. My grandpa wore them long johns with the flap in the back. He would wear them from the time it started getting cold until it warmed up. He slept in them so he had a pair on 24 hrs a day. His was an off white color. When I was working most of the jobs I had that I was outside a lot I wore the two piece ones got to stay warm out there. You are so right about blueberries Jason. When I lived in Georgia, the tobacco farmers were deciding to grow blueberries instead of tobacco because that market was declining as people stopped smoking. Blueberries like the same type of soil that Tobaco likes. lol on the flap

Have you ever heard of Knock Out Roses ? They bloom for months and only need pruning in the spring(Cut back the dead branches).They come in a number of colors too. They grown like a bush and the flowers are so pretty.
My son used to tie his own hooks for fly fishing and we had to buy Peacock feather to make them ! You may be able to sell the feathers to a fish hook place!
Great sharing about the plant lady, my Granny and Mother taught me so much about tree types,plants, flowers and growing tips. They are both gone and certain plants or gardening reminds me of them.

My mother-in-law had a compost pile and she would put out the pits and skins from peaches we had bought, by the peck, every summer. One year a peach tree came up. We babied that tree for 5 years! The first year it produced fruit, they were woodie and sour! We left it for one more year, and our place was hit by a tornado, and that peach tree was twisted off at the ground! It was heart breaking. We live in mid-west Indiana. Prayers and Blessings always

I've got my whole family hooked on homemade peach ice cream. My Great Grandad came up with an ice cream recipe for ice cream which had no eggs in it because he was allergic to eggs and so am I. Everyone fallowed the recipe for years until I started turning it into different flavors. I love peaches so I made peach ice cream. Now everyone makes peach or banana nut. For a family get together we assign flavors. Chocolate, peach, strawberry, vanilla or butterfinger (not made with the candy bar.) I came up with the different favors for our recipe over 40 years ago.

When Mary Carl sets her mind to learn anything she excels at it. She is such an incredible young lady. Mary Carl is very mature for her age. Look how much she knows about her various birds. She is just such a sweetheart.
My dad drove an international semi truck for over 20 years and absolutely loved it! When he did it was easy to get a CDL but unfortunately some people took advantage of it. The amount of miles driven was how much they could earn but the rules of how much they were driving could get you into trouble and that is why they put rules on how much you could drive and log books were checked to make sure you didn't over drive your allowance. My dad met a lot of drivers who used drugs to drive without sleep to make the most amount of money and they falsified their log books to not get in trouble. It made it hard for dad to keep driving so he retired. Making the rules harder only caused drivers to find short cuts around them. Stay interstate and drive minimally so you can be home every night - you will be happier!

@Cog Hill Farm, growing up in Indiana in our back yard, the long walkway from the big patio we called, the grape arbor! Great memories! Our nextdoor neighbor had a yummy mulberry tree and I have never seen another one around in 30 years. Oh the memories of berry picking with my 5 sisters and baking everything anything. We had 9 kids in my family and on our back porch we had two 8ft deep freezers , one was for all the fruits and veggies from summer harvest and the other for all the fish and wild game.. turtle, squirrel, deer, coon,chickens and the only thing in that freezer that I still gag even thinking was .. my dads friend was a butcher and he would give dad the cow tongues, heart, liver! The boys did the hunting and all of us worked that huge few acres of garden and flowers. Sorry for rambling on but you just brought memories back. So happy for the beginning of the build! Great podcast. My grandpa wore them long johns with the flap in the back. He would wear them from the time it started getting cold until it warmed up. He slept in them so he had a pair on 24 hrs a day. His was an off white color. When I was working most of the jobs I had that I was outside a lot I wore the two piece ones got to stay warm out there.

You are so right about blueberries Jason. When I lived in Georgia, the tobacco farmers were deciding to grow blueberries instead of tobacco because that market was declining as people stopped smoking. Blueberries like the same type of soil that Tobaco likes. lol on the flap

Have you ever heard of Knock Out Roses ? They bloom for months and only need pruning in the spring(Cut back the dead branches).They come in a number of colors too. They grown like a bush and the flowers are so pretty.
