I haven't used a comb in over five years and don't plan to anytime soon. Like you my hair is just too fine for a comb in a tangled state. I have experienced over 50% less breakage while dry finger detangling.
she didn't take 16 minutes to "detangle" that piece of hair. She took the time to meticulously give us advices on how to detangle which I think is really kind from her. Thanks Cirpriana.
Thank you so much for the love and kind words. You are too sweet. Hmmmm, well I don't use foundation but I do use powder by L'oreal, true match shade W5. Thank you again and so glad you are enjoying the site. Means the world :)
Hahahaha YES!!! Challah bread is soooooooooooooooo addictive, especially when you slightly break the parts and pour butter on top and toast in the oven. OMG this is making me crave some challah bread now!!! Thank you so much :D
It doesn't really matter if the detangling process is long, you have the retention to show for it! People need to start deciding if they want to dedicate their time to keep their hair or not. I would like to try the dry detangling. Thanks for showing us!
Thank you and yes, I definitely can provide a closeup shot of my loose twists. If you check out the video "You Decide What My Next Hairstyle Should Be" I have hairstyle shots at the end of the video, where you can get really clear close up shots of my hair. The twists look so loose they don't even resemble twists. :D
Hello :DDD Well you are right! Your hair will mesh/lock more with looser twists but what helps is the updo styles I constantly wear 24/7. Without the updo styles, loose twists are almost like wearing your hair free form and Lawd knows that would bring on ssks and locking galore!!!
My pleasure!!! Thank you so much and yes the longer your hair, the more work that is entailed with detangling!!! I wish it was vice a versa! Sigh only in my dreams, lol but no complaints :)
Thank you so much and YES, dry detangling with oils has worked wonders in retaining length. Sometimes a few people get upset when they hear I describe my hair as work or that I need more patience with my texture. I am only stating what it takes to achieve this length with my hair. Someone else my have the same "hair type" but may have more time to detangle frequently, medium or course strands, less density, a small head, lol. Any hoo just my little old rant, lol. Thank you again :D
About 8-10 hours for detangling alone which is why I detangle once a month now but if I did it every week it cut it down to about 6 hours but because of my schedule once a month is perfect!
Exactly to each her own. I am the one who chooses to deal with this hair the way I do because obviously I want to. Everyone has a system and if someone doesn't like it they can move right along, lol. Longer hair means more work especially for curly/kinky textured hair. Thank you and my pleasure.
Thank you so much. I love nothing better than to know you are enjoying our videos :) Yes you can most definitely transition with twists. Twisting all 150 twists takes about 8-10 hours but that is because I retwist every 4 weeks now (since my hair is getting longer) and detangle twist by twist. I also have an article on our site called “11 tips for a successful transition”. Just type the title in the search engine located on top of our site :)
…Yes everyone has their own technique and when you haven't found a regimen that works for you it can be very frustrating! The great thing about natural hair is that you can tell in a short amount of time if your hair likes something or it doesn’t!
thanks for taking the time to share...a lot of mixed comments, u gotta love YT...lol....some of the negative comments...why bother to watch....just my opinion queen u do u sis.. ;')
Thank you!!! Your words mean so much!!!! We really try! We know many people are extremely busy which makes it really hard to stay personal with all the comments but we really try to reply to as many comments as we can (even if it is weeks later). You really are very important to us!!!
LOL that 16 mins almost blew me as well. But she has such a big/bright personality, she takes up the time well- lacing conversation with information.I eventually disregarded the timer.Don't be dismayed natural hair care is only as time consuming as one desires it to be.More styling and manipulation youre into=more time. The more you deviate from the look of your natural texture as a style the more time you will HAVE to invest. If u wanna K.I.S. wash bi-weekly, detangle regulary, moisturize daily!
Your assumption is correct. I detangle before I wash and then once dry. I simply do a quick retwist of the 150 loose twists once hair is dry after washing. Since I wash my hair in sections and the process in how I wash my hair it does not cause many tangles of the just detangled hair. I will do a video of my washing process so it is more clearly explained.
It depends, sometimes I will do half one day and the other half a day later but since I detangle twist by twist then pin up the twist once I am finished it is easy to keep track of which ones I just detangled.
…I definitely would recommend a good trim overall but you can nurse your hair with conditioner and oil treatments. Also you can soak your hair in water then let while damp (but not dripping wet) use coconut and olive oil on your strands which can actually penetrate the hair shaft for the most moisture. Hope this helps!
Lol. Well technically it took about 8 minutes because I was running my mouth but the process is much quicker than 8 mins because I wanted to show the exact motions and you are 100% right it is a job and my other half!
My regimen is almost the same regardless of what I do but when I do workout I will make sure to wear tighter updo styles via the root areas like this style showcased, buns, ponytails, etc...I noticed if the roots are contained while exercising than it decreases tangling that ensues after once I begin to sweat.
I love your loose twists. Could you do a short vid on how to do a loose twist? My hair is very fine and I have alot of breakage. My hair only grows to a certain point,so I thought loose twist may help it to grow.. I wear my hair in a puff on most days.
Well when I say my hair is "stretched" it just means the curls have been partially elongated. When I pull my hair completely straight it actually hits below waist level now. You can view our video "Cipriana Takes Down her 150 Twists" where I actually pull my hair to waist level but that video is 6 months old. I just have crazy shrinkage but I can do a length check video :)
I love this video. I actually just figured that i could do this on my own like 2 weeks ago and now this vid is helpful to me, but I thought I was doing something wrong. One question(forgive if I missed it in another vid) can you show a close up of your loose twists?. I'm interested in knowing my about this kind of protective styling. Thank you
Yes, almond oil is fine but it seems that the coconut oil was liquefying a bit which happens during warm temperatures but a paste, hmmm... well whatever coconut oil you choose it should say 100% extra virgin coconut oil :)
Love the video! You are so funny! How long do you normally keep your hair in the 150 twists? I was also wondering how long it takes you to twist your hair? Is this something that I can do if I am transitioning from texlax back to natural?
Lol well most of you, like yourself are uber amazing as always but hey, it is what is is, lol. Thank you for watching Thank you so much and definitely will do ;D
Very helpful tips! Random question though, do you have on foundation or powder on? You have such beautiful glowing skin and look very similar to my skin tone so just wanted to know if so, what brand and shade. Thank you! Love you two's blog
Do you ever use a comb to detangle? Or do you mostly dry detangle? If you ever use a comb, how often? My hair is extremely fine as well and I dry detangle. But I haven't found a comb yet that I like using on my hair. All combs seem to break and snag my fine strands. I'm trying to grow my hair really long (like yours) and sometimes I think I should never use a comb?
great vid! my hair is far to thick to do small sections. It true everyone hair likes something different. I am digging your up do in this video. What do you do to stretch your hair after you have done a full wash. When your hair is wet and your waiting for it to dry.
Yep, same here, dry detangling is what works best for me - I also have 4b/c hair with alot of density, but fine strands. Just wondering, exactly how long does your process typically take at your length?
I really appreciate when I see black women who have onfidence in their natural hair. I do not like the fake weave weaves especially when the weaves cheaply are done.
Gggiiiirrrrllll!!!! If you don't look like Sade wearing a ponytail and red lipstick. I will have to try this method..again. I think I'm doing it right but now I see I wasn't. :) thanks, Cip.
Thank you :DDD Yes!!! The process of taking down my twists from my updo styles is so important!!! If you just go to our site and type these two titles into our search located on top of our page: "My Daily Hair Routine: Part 1" and "My 7 Step Weekly Hair Routine: Part 2" you will see what I do during the week and weekend in detail :)
Hello my Lovely :D I am so sorry this happened. Unfortunately depending on the current state of your hair everyone can have a different reaction to anything they use on their hair so again I am so sorry this happened to you but the decision is up to you and the desired look you want to achieve in regards of where the breakage is and how much!…continued
Thank you and believe me my hair is too thick as well, lol but since I leave it in a protective style for weeks at a time it definitely works for me :) Well while it is drying I apply my love potion # 9 (you can find out what this is on our site if you don't already know. Just type in Love Potion # 9 in our search engine and scroll down till you see the title "Love Potion # 9) then I will let my hair air dry till it is about 80-90% dry then do large braids for stretching.
Hello :D Well if you have hair that is similar to Nikisha's I know of no product that will transform your curls to my hair texture, in fact that sounds like magic, lol but you can use less products that cause uniformed definition and comb out your curls for a more kinky textured appearance. Hope this helps :D
Can you demonstrate how you stretch your hair? My hair texture seems similar to yours, but I can never stretch it that much without a little heat. I've tried Bantu knots, twists, and braids and it is still about 15% of its actual length. My hair shrinks about 90%.
So, Baby Niece, when you do this process, despite your patience, do you end up with a handful or big ball of boken or tangled hair or minimal? I looked through all of the comments so I would not be redundant but I did not see this question. Just wondering. Good Life Happy Joy!
Hi. I've been doing regular twists for years and they are taking longer to do now that my hair has gotten longer. I would like to try your "loose" twisting method because it looks like it's faster to put in + it offers styling versatility. My only thing? My hair LOVES to shrink/lock. I'm concerned that if I wear "loose" twists, I'll get more SSKs/meshing than with regular twists. My hair type is similar to yours, except more kinky. How do you avoid SSKs and meshing in loose twists? Thx.
is almond oil fine to use on ur hair? i was going to buy coconut oil, but the store i went to only had like a huge chunk of coconut soaked in a little coconut oil. I am not sure, it may have been like a creamy coconut, paste.
Thank you so much, I will definitely be your hair whisperer, lol. Oooooh and combing root to tip? Hmmm that is a big fat no no in my book in fact that is like the number one rule in natural hair don'ts but hey maybe someone found a way that works for them, (I try to keep an open mind)….continued
hi urbanbushbabes! i have a question is it possible for Nikisha to get natural curly like Cipriana? If so how...do you use a specific hair product or its impossible? The reason that I ask is because my hair is more similar to Nikishia and I would love to have curly hair like Cipriana
I think our hair is the same type. I have really fine strands but overall I have a whole lot of hairs. I have a problem with split ends though. I just gave myself a trim in February and now I have a ton of split ends again. it's infuriating. And you should see how gentle I am when I brush
Hello my lovely UBB! :-). I have a major problem: I was experimenting with natural oils and I used lemon grass in my oil mix not knowing that it is a natural astringent, YIP! I have a bad breakage up to the root. Some naturals said that I have to cut my hair off, and some said no. I am currently using the "One and Only" Argan Oil Repair products to nurse my mane, BUT PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO.....HELP!!! :-(

I hear you! Keeping my hair not only in twists but updo styles as well, helps tremendously in keeping my hair from detangling to extreme measures.
she didn't take 16 minutes to "detangle" that piece of hair. She took the time to meticulously give us advices on how to detangle which I think is really kind from her. Thanks Cirpriana.
I love your hair. It is so healthy and thick. You are a true beauty. Nothing artificial!

Do you detangle before and afer washing your hair/only when you hair is dry and streched?. As I am assuming you do not detangle wet hair?
Thank you so much and yes I feel it is better to give too much information than too little. Thank you again

very detailed explanation... very much appreciated... beautiful hair doesn't come easy... I spend a lot of time detangling too!
Lawwd, chile. A challah bread prop on standby.
Cirpriana, you are TOO MUCH! I'm DEAD over that!
thanks for taking the time to share...a lot of mixed comments, u gotta love YT...lol....some of the negative comments...why bother to watch....just my opinion queen u do u sis.. ;')

Girl! I am in awe over all that pretty hair! what an inspiration!
The more you deviate from the look of your natural texture as a style the more time you will HAVE to invest. great video, love your hair and eyebrows. always a vital information source for me.
I love your loose twists. Could you do a short vid on how to do a loose twist? My hair is very fine and I have alot of breakage. My hair only grows to a certain point,so I thought loose twist may help it to grow.. I wear my hair in a puff on most days.
150 !? I complain about doing like 20-30 and you do 150 twists? Wow. That's a lot of hair, about how long does it take you to do that?
Thank you and yes, I will be doing a video tutorial on my loose twists process :DD
I love your sense of humor, makes me laugh ever time
Your welcome and my pleasure, I am so glad this video will be helpful in trying this method. Keep me updated or if you have any questions :D
Hello :D I sure can and thank you for the reminder. I meant to show my shedded hair after detangling in a previous episode.
You almost look as if you are gently threading your hair. I really get why you have so much length retention. Very nice!
Well when I say my hair is "stretched" it just means the curls have been partially elongated. When I pull my hair completely straight it actually hits below waist level now. You can view our video "Cipriana Takes Down her 150 Twists" where I actually pull my hair to waist level but that video is 6 months old. Nice intro!
...btw what do you do 4 a living? just curious :)
Thank you so much, what a beautiful comment! So much love for you all (well you know who I am talking about, lol)
Very thorough instructions!!! Great video. I love your hair and the makeup, esp the lipstick. What brand and color?
OMG, I just looked it up and completely resembles Pansage, lol. Love it!
I ave very fine hair as well. I will try your method of dry detangling. Thank you for making this video.
I love this video. I actually just figured that i could do this on my own like 2 weeks ago and now this vid is helpful to me, but I thought I was doing something wrong. Gourl, I am not gonna event front like I didn't side eye you with this dry finger detangling ish. However, nom nom nom
Thanks for the video! I'm going to try this on my fine-textured, kinky hair. Your hair is gorgeous, by the way :-)
Yes, almond oil is fine but it seems that the coconut oil was liquefying a bit which happens during warm temperatures but a paste, hmmm... well whatever coconut oil you choose it should say 100% extra virgin coconut oil :)
Yes I will definitely make a video on how I stretch my hair. I too deal with major shrinkage, about 70%.
So beautiful and unique. Absolutely stunning.
Love the video! You are so funny! How long do you normally keep your hair in the 150 twists? I was also wondering how long it takes you to twist your hair? Is this something that I can do if I am transitioning from texlax back to natural?
Baby Niece??? Hair loss is very minimal, which is part patience and part finger detangling! Thank you so much and Good Life Happy Joy right back :)
Lol well most of you, like yourself are uber amazing as always but hey, it is what is is, lol. Thank you for watching Thank you so much and definitely will do ;D
Lol, it definitely takes a minute! About 8 hours to just twist :)
Yes, I have heard this method works wonders for some. Thank you so much :)
Very helpful tips! Random question though, do you have on foundation or powder on? You have such beautiful glowing skin and look very similar to my skin tone so just wanted to know if so, what brand and shade. Thank you! Love you two's blog
Can't wait to see those tutorials.
Don't know about a 'quick' tutorial but useful. Thanks
Good Morning :DDD Yes, try the oils, I bet that will help in time deduction. Let me know how it works and my pleasure!!!
Do you ever use a comb to detangle? Or do you mostly dry detangle? If you ever use a comb, how often? My hair is extremely fine as well and I dry detangle. Thank you :DDD

Hi Cipriana! I just wanted to know if you work out and if so what your hair regimen is for those days that you do. Thanks
Do you trim your hair, at all!
Hello my Lovely :D I am so sorry this happened. Oh my, thank you so much!!! Yeah I was like man oh man, lol. Great, so glad it translated well. Thank you again and we love you :D
Thank you and believe me my hair is too thick as well, lol but since I leave it in a protective style for weeks at a time it definitely works for me :) Well while it is drying I apply my love potion # 9 (you can find out what this is on our site if you don't already know. I could never finger detangle my massive hair...my whole arm would come off in the process. LOL!!
is almond oil fine to use on ur hair? i was going to buy coconut oil, but the store i went to only had like a huge chunk of coconut soaked in a little coconut oil. I am not sure, it may have been like a creamy coconut, paste.
But my question is has this method significantly reduced the occurrence of split ends for you? because if it has, I'm switching.
Doesn't your hair get REALLY oily after all the detangling? I'd love to try this method !
can you make a vid of detangling wet hair out the shower regimen please?
Thank you so much, I will definitely be your hair whisperer, lol. Oooooh and combing root to tip? Hmmm that is a big fat no no in my book in fact that is like the number one rule in natural hair don'ts but hey maybe someone found a way that works for them, (I try to keep an open mind)….continued
One of my favorite kind of breads, yum! :)
hi urbanbushbabes! i have a question is it possible for Nikisha to get natural curly like Cipriana? If so how...do you use a specific hair product or its impossible? The reason that I ask is because my hair is more similar to Nikishia and I would love to have curly hair like Cipriana
So basically you never let your hair shrink up all the way right?
Can you do a length check cause you say your hair is waist length but it doesn't look that long
I wash my hair in large loose braids so tangles are minimal.
Great, I can't wait to share :D
I dust my ends which is almost like trimming but a search and destroy of individual strands for split ends. Your welcome :D
I think our hair is the same type. I have really fine strands but overall I have a whole lot of hairs. I have a problem with split ends though. I just gave myself a trim in February and now I have a ton of split ends again. it's infuriating. And you should see how gentle I am when I brush
Thank you so much, I am flattered :DDD
I LOVE that bread!
I try but my hair shrinks up some after stretching regardless.
What do you do with your tangles when you wash your hair?
Hello my lovely UBB! :-).
I have a major problem: I was experimenting with natural oils and I used lemon grass in my oil mix not knowing that it is a natural astringent, YIP! I have a bad breakage up to the root. Some naturals said that I have to cut my hair off, and some said no. I am currently using the "One and Only" Argan Oil Repair products to nurse my mane, BUT PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO.....HELP!!! :-(
Yes! This a good tutorial idea ;D
You are awesome!!! Thank you so much :D
u have awesome hair. its like a queen wearing a crown.
when you detangle do you finish in one day? cause ive tryed this and it gets hard for me to remember where i ended...how do you do this ...
Lol, I hear you, it is definitely a workout!
LOL, I had to laugh at myself for that one!!! :DDD
Hahahaha, thank you!!! I freakin love Sade and my pleasure
her hair is bad ass !
