Lmaooo the detangling dance!! Ugh I need to hang out with you!! It's hard to find girls that are sophisti-ratchet, care about health & hair, & have a laid back style! I'm always either too "conscious" or too "goofy" for most people to digest lol
Hi whitney. So , I'm guessing you don't respond much to comments but i will still really appreciate if you responded to my previous question regarding hard water and hair, if its an issue for you and how you deal with it. Nice video.
When I first heard of fingerdetangling I thought it was absolutely ridiculous but it has been a few days since I realized that it makes all the sense of the world, especially for type 4 hair.thanks
Hello, Your video is awesome. After the first time I watched it, I finger detangle let's say 50% of my hair and used my seamless comb for the other 50%. Following shampoo session I finger detangled 96% of my hair and used the comb just to be sure no knot, tangles, or shed hairs were left. During the detangling process I got like only 2 tangled zones which I had to take time to detangle. So 1000 thanks to you ! This video has revolutionized my hair journey !
I had never heard or thought of using only fingers to detangle hair before I started watching your videos, but now that's all I use! I haven't touched a comb in ages. I love finger detangling so much more than using a tool. I feel that it allows me to have more control over my hair and to be more familiar with it.
I never, ever, ever thought that I would be able to finger detangle my very dense fine strands. I tried a long time ago and came to the conclusion that I had to use a denman brush. But you proved me wrong and I cannot tell you how beautiful and light and happy my hair came out this weekend after "experimenting" with your technique. I lost way less hair, saved so much water, and had more defined curls that had nothing more than some vatika oil on it. Thanks!
!!!! this video is perfect! There is so many way to detangle with combs but nobody tells you how to properly finger detangle UNTIL NOW! this is perfect THANKYOU
Kuddos to Target and Carol's Daughter to look outside of the box to promote products. What a great spokesperson you are. Can't wait to get more length! On another note, my daughter loves your hair channel. It helps her to embrace her natural hair.
I tried this finger detangling method number two and it was so great! My hair feels softer and I've gotten rid of my shed hair. My hair was really dry so I knew using a comb would take it out a lot. I didn't lose a lot of hair with this method and even though it took me about 3 hours, it was totally worth it. Now I can just wait a not her week until I get my protective style ^_^
Before watching this video, I finger detangled on almost dry hair and it works!!!!! She knows what she's talking about! Better than using a comb, plus I enjoy feeling my locks run through my fingers. Such a blessing!! :)
awesome video. i'm still trying to get finger detangling down pack. i'll start off doing it that way and then i get aggravated and pull out the wide tooth comb. I'll def try out your way and see what happens. thanks for sharing
I didn't think I'd ever be able to finagle detangle. I've been doing it for the last month and it's getting easier! I see a huge difference in hair loss and i don't think I can go back to my Deman. Great Video! Your methods were helpful!
Great video! Loved the finger detangling dance! I loved all 3 methods, and use them all at different times. I'm actually trying to incorporate more finger detangling into my natural hair routine, because I usually use a wide tooth comb and I want to retain more length this year. I am trying to avoid washing my hair today since it is already pretty clean, but I had a tangled twistout that needed some TLC!
I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee your educAtional videos- back in the days..... I wish my mother or anyone would have taught me how to love AND CARE for natural hair
Yeah, i think black ppl all over the world wished that, and our parent before us, our grandparents, our ancestors, but thankfully we are learning, so the next generation won't have to go through what we went through, when it comes to our hair. :)
susuilu me too No One taught me how to care for my hair growing up. They just put it in braid or relaxed it.. If they taught me even a Portion of what Whit teaches us I couldve saved my hair from falling out..
Awesome! Thanks Nap! I am using all of your natural hair tips on my baby girls hair. She's 3 now so I'm glad you are here for me now so my child will always have beautiful, shameless tresses if I can help it. Many blessings to you!
You Helped my daughter out!!! I have strait hair and don't need no detangleing at all .I had no way to explain to her this method to her and your video helped so much☺THANK YOU for your video!!!!!!
Thank you so much! Detangling is my biggest struggle which keeps any products I use from really penetrating all of my hair. I am in need of a trim, but your tips will hopefully help me make it until trim day. Time to give it a go.
Your videos and your hair journey inspires me to keep going through my transition. With your help I understand my hair a little bit better now. Thank you so very much!
yep. love it. Did the detangling 1 and 2 with you while watching. Great tips. I usually use my index finger. It seems more natural. the thumb method could take some getting use to.
This was the most needed video for my hair...usually when I finger detangle it hurts and I loss alot of hair...who would have thought it would be so easy...you are the reason I did my bc two years ago
Loved this video :) I usually finger detangle my hair in the shower using conditioner. The only time I use a wide tooth comb is if my hair is super tangled and I am limited on time.
Thank you for sharing. I struggle in detangling my hair & thought that it was "holly" to detangle w/moist hair. I understand the difference in the 3 methods, & hopefully this will help be improve my detangling process. My biggest problem is I tangle all the way to the roots :-(***** when you have time & remember, can you please update us on your Shea butter product? Thanks in advance. Have a great weekend.
Excellent video! I've tried just about every technique that I can on my hair and I find I hear the music from your videos while Im doing my hair ! LOL! You're the best! Informative & entertaining!
OMG! This is exactly how I've been detangling my hair for the last year or so.. And now I see your video, mind blown! Glad to know I'm not alone in this lil madness :)
Thank you so much for sharing. The vid is so helpful for me. I thought my hair was "crazy" but apparently it reacts normally with knots, single strands knots and by tangling
You're up early and uploading videos...awww you're so great. Thanks for your dedication and knowledge for helping us appreciate and grow our Natural hair. :-)
you do not understand how much i needed this! i dont/hardly detangle caz honestly its a lotta hair and i get lazy but i (and my mother) really think i should start becaz my hair is ridiculously tangled esp the middle of my head. So THANKS!
Thank you so much for this video! I did this to my hair and it cut my detangling in HALF! THANK YOU THANK THANK YOU keep up the awesome tutorials and vlogs
Your hair is unquestionalby GORGEOUS! However, the ends look to need a slight trim. If and when you do trim them, I'll be on the lookout for that video...been trying to get my daughter to understand the importance of keeping ends clipped. Thanks for sharing the detangling tips, very useful!
love finger detangling! I haven't used a comb in almost a year. But I never feel like my hair is strong enough to detangle when it's wet or even just a little damp because it gets so fragile like that. Such a good video though!
Thank you so much Whitney. I've been natural for almost 3 years now and your channel has been an immense help!!!! Can you give us some tips on preventing one strand knots PLEASE please pretty please ... I can't seem to get rid of or prevent them- they keep returning no matter what I do. Need your expertise :)
I love when you wear your hair stretched in a middle part! It's really flattering on you! Have you ever tried dry detangling with a little bit of oil? I do it just for that added slip to minimize any chance of breakage.
Hey Whit I've been following for a little over 2yrs I love all your videos, blogs, ig fb etc. Anyway yes the thumb does wonders I've been doing this method every since my hair gotton longer & thicker. I just made my 2yr post bc last month. Still can't wait for longer hair so I can do more styles.
I used to be team comb detangle, until I realized that using my fingers gave me less headaches and an attitude. But I still use a comb every once in a while ;-)
I found that using a deep conditioner by EDEN with a heating cap stop excessive shedding right away. I also stopped using the home made shea butter mixture since i suspect shea butter was causing the extra shedding.

Love this video! Nowadays, I only finger detangle (on wet or dry hair) except for wash day when I use a wide toothed comb or a paddle brush, depending on how I want to style my hair next. ;)
Just learned my natural hair type; I thought I was a 4B, but like you I am 4a all over, but a 4b in some areas in the back of my head. It's a shame that it took a coworker who has been natural for 5 yrs to tell me what my hair type is. LOL! I'm only 6 months in, but my growth has been great. Now that I know I share a hair type with you, I will be following your advice for sure. :)
I've started to use less combs. I find finger detangling is perfect for wash n gos because it doesn't disturb the curl pattern.I still detangle with a comb for twistouts and a denman for curlformer sets tho, just to get some extra smoothness.
Thank you for this video cause I just started finger only detangling. So ive been scared that im doing it wrong and hurting my hair. so i appreciate this alot tysm 😊❤
girl i just got done finger detailing my head your way and i can't believe i've been detangling my hair wrong all this time! it actually feels combed! thank you soo much! #livesaver you got a book? you need to write one if you don't have one.
Hi Nap! I LOVE your vids and i watch them all the time from the beginning days to the recent! I like to see what i am looking forward to! ;) I cut my hair back in Aug and now I have about 5 1/2 inches of hair. It looks like we have the same kind of hair, your coils just seem to clump together more and my coils just poof and frizz out though. I love using my curlformers! They make my hair so smooth so easily! Ive always wondered, have you ever tried the yellow and fushia extra wide curlformers? They make smooth barrel curls and are awesome! I love them and I think your hair would look so pretty using those! Keep on inspiring others! Peace!
on one of her earlier videos on her vlog channel, dearnatural85, she actually addresses what she do for single strand knots and split ends but I can't recall the name of the video off my head, I think it was like hair faqs or something, Hope this helped :)
Sharon Patterson I'm happy the video was helpful!! I do get single strand knots, but I tend to just leave them alone. It's kindof inevitable, but when I see them, I just let them be. Here's a more detailed explanation! Xo!
I'm going to give this another try! So far, I don't think finger detangling works for 4c hair, but I hope I lose less hair in detangling without a comb.
Naps this video is awesome!!!!!! Exactly what I needed and didn't even realise I needed it! A question though. I love my hair (finally) and actually enjoy its crazy 3b- 4b texture. However I want it to grow which usually means protective styles. Is there anyway I can still do my twistouts and have fun in it WITHOUT having to protective style it?
Hey in case you're interested check out 101ladyt she managed to retain quite a bit of length [ nearly waislt length] whilst wearing twist outs and a the occasional protective style :)
Hey Steph Powell ! Oh yea! I actually rarely do protective styles! I like wearing my hair out and do so about 99% of the time! I'll usually only wear hats and scarfs if I'm doing "extreme" outdoor activities like skiing and such! I think it's just important to keep the hair moisturized daily and you'll be fine!
Thanks for sharing! Now maybe my scissor happy hands can put the shears down during my detangling process. I extremely quick to snip those knots out. Detangling my hair used to be a nightmare, but I noticed as the health of my hair improved and I kept it moisturized, detangling is easier. Hopefully your "detangling dance" can help me cut my detangling time in half. Tks
Yes, I'm doing it right. The issue I'm having is seeing all my shed hair. I find myself examining my shed hair to make sure it's not breaking off. I find my hair growing a little longer using the finger detangle method
omg, you and I think so alike Whitney. I was literally doing the thumb dance after I saw you do the detangling motion, then I waited for you to start doing it and you did!! haha
Awesome tips and dance. I find it a little more difficult to detangle since my hair is getting longer and it is so tightly coiled. Ill def do this when i don't want to use a comb. Xoxo ;-) 💙💙💙💙
That knot trick at 2:28 just saved me so much! thanks Whit.
Lmaooo the detangling dance!! Ugh I need to hang out with you!! It's hard to find girls that are sophisti-ratchet, care about health & hair, & have a laid back style! I'm always either too "conscious" or too "goofy" for most people to digest lol
sophisti-ratchet??!!! LOL, that's what I am. Hi, sister from a different mister.
I can totally relate lol

It's the weekend!!! Here's a NEW Upload! #NaturalHair 3 Ways To Safely Finger Detangle + Remove Knots on Curly Natural Hair!! XoXo!!
I needed this, taking my braids down today, and I know it's going to be a little tangly...thanks for sharing Whitney❤️
loved this video, really helpful. You should do a follow up vid on styles that best suit each detangling method.
Thanks for the tips. You rock!
Hi whitney. So , I'm guessing you don't respond much to comments but i will still really appreciate if you responded to my previous question regarding hard water and hair, if its an issue for you and how you deal with it. Nice video.
Thanks Brianna Love. I really appreciate it. I'll give it a try. I hope it works.
When I first heard of fingerdetangling I thought it was absolutely ridiculous but it has been a few days since I realized that it makes all the sense of the world, especially for type 4 hair.thanks
Thanks for the tip about NOT pulling the knots in two directions! Much appreciated... You ROCK, Nap85!!!
This tip is for those people that are having problems with excessive hair shedding--try taking vitamin D3.
The shedding will slow down immediately.
Thanks any more tips to reduce hair shedding
Tea rinsessss
I got them for vitamin d deficiency
out of all the hair gurus i always watched, you're the only one thats still consistent with videos. Thank you!
This is the best finger detangling video I've found, so, thank you for this! Your hair's gorgeous here!
It always looks gorgeous.😅

i love ur personality. i watch ur videos almost everyday because your are one of my natural hair inspirations. Keep it up!! :-)

I have only two things to say:
1.)YOU ARE SO AWESOME!!!! 😃😉
2.)How long does it take you to de-tangle your hair?
Thanks for showing and sharing your finger detangling methods, they are very helpful. Your hair is beautiful.

This vid was uploaded right in time. Today is my wash day and I'm definitely gonna try this method out. Thanks for sharing.
I tried this detangling on my daughter's hair and she loves it because she's tender headed. Thanks for the helpful tips.
Omg! I love the tip about releasing knots! Lifesaver
Your videos and your hair journey inspires me to keep going through my transition. With your help I understand my hair a little bit better now. Thank you so very much!

The new dance kraze...the detangling dance!!! Great vid!

I tried the detangling method for the first time, huge difference with compared to using a comb. I had 2/3s less shed hair and breakage!
Excellent video! I've tried just about every technique that I can on my hair and I find I hear the music from your videos while Im doing my hair ! LOL! You're the best! Informative & entertaining!
Detangling dance! Thank you for sharing I didn't kno that about the knots I've been tightening them all along ugh

Aw, thanks Toia319 !! Haha! So stoked to get this one out early!! I'm happy to help!! Xo!!
When you say you do research what does that look like?
you do not understand how much i needed this! i dont/hardly detangle caz honestly its a lotta hair and i get lazy but i (and my mother) really think i should start becaz my hair is ridiculously tangled esp the middle of my head. So THANKS!

I think she did a video last year on trimming? In fact I think she's done two in total
Oh, thank you so much! I'll go through the archives.
love finger detangling! I haven't used a comb in almost a year. But I never feel like my hair is strong enough to detangle when it's wet or even just a little damp because it gets so fragile like that. Such a good video though!
Your hairs growing so nicely. Thanks for your videos God bless you and family
I'm so glad you did reviews on the CD lines! Thanks girl!
Thanks for this video!
I love when you wear your hair stretched in a middle part! It's really flattering on you! Have you ever tried dry detangling with a little bit of oil? I do it just for that added slip to minimize any chance of breakage.
I agree, she looks awesome like that. Oh and the top bun she did a while ago, so cute.
Your a life saver I've been cutting my knots now I know how to detangle it
thank you!! just sitting here doing this now using some coconut oil! it feels so much nicer - i have broken so many combs !
I used to dread finger detangling but with patience...I've learned to like it esp with the right products...ACV is a great detangler
This video is STILL GREAT 2 years later! Thanks so much for posting it! :D
~ Lavinia
I used to be team comb detangle, until I realized that using my fingers gave me less headaches and an attitude. But I still use a comb every once in a while ;-)
I'm surprised I have any hair because I shed like crazy!!!!
same here
I found that using a deep conditioner by EDEN with a heating cap stop excessive shedding right away. I also stopped using the home made shea butter mixture since i suspect shea butter was causing the extra shedding.
I find that MSM supplement helps along with rosemary, lavender tea rinse. I have stopped the tea rinse because the the MSM tablet do the trick. Maybe this may help along with a healthy hair routine 😀
You are truly lovely:) your naural hair videos inspire me KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
Thank you. The suggestion to stir and add more oil helped. I never melted the shea at all, as Nap's recipe didn't call for it.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO... IT IS A LIFE SAVER FOR ME. 😢
I really enjoy your videos, not only are you very helpful but you're also so peppy and sweet
I've started to use less combs. I find finger detangling is perfect for wash n gos because it doesn't disturb the curl pattern.I still detangle with a comb for twistouts and a denman for curlformer sets tho, just to get some extra smoothness.
thanks Whit! so helpful, especially for my newly natural (not by choice, but starting to get into it) daughter!
Aw, happy to help ***** !
I LOVE finger detangling! I tend to use the last two methods but i'll try using the first one. Ps that beat was on POINT!
Thanks, Whit! I was jamming right along with you to that beat! LOL
Thank you so much. I have the toughest time detangling my hair sometimes.
Ahhhh!!! So happy to hear it helped madfamous1 !! XoXo!!
Peace!
So helpful. ..this is my biggest challenge being natural for 3yrs..detangling, knots and handling my hair properly...do you get single stand knots?
on one of her earlier videos on her vlog channel, dearnatural85, she actually addresses what she do for single strand knots and split ends but I can't recall the name of the video off my head, I think it was like hair faqs or something, Hope this helped :)
Sharon Patterson I'm happy the video was helpful!! I do get single strand knots, but I tend to just leave them alone. It's kindof inevitable, but when I see them, I just let them be. Here's a more detailed explanation! Xo!
Can you please try out a three stand twist and do a video?! Love you
The 3rd method is my favorite and the only way I detangle my hair,... Dry detangling methods? Ain't nobody got time for that! lol :)
The dance was totally unexpected lol! Your videos are always resourceful and entertaining :)
Get video Whitney! Love the dance! lol How do you handle any tangle in the scalp area? That's where I find most of my tangles. Thanks
I have been looking for this video.
Thank you!!!!
Man i love your hair, currently I'm transitioning to natural hair and hopefully my hair gets as long as yours
Excellent demos as always, Thanks!
Great video I needed this I am transitioning from comb to finger Detangling
Thanks for sharing, I've never tried the dry method before, it seems harmless so I will try the dry method.
I'm going to give this another try! So far, I don't think finger detangling works for 4c hair, but I hope I lose less hair in detangling without a comb.
Thank you zoo much for this! It's helped tons during the wash process!
Oooh Thanks I'll try that!
I love your videos, their so helpful and you're hilarious!
Tks
Thanks and it's wash day gotta get ready for a job fair on Tuesday thanks for the tips !!
Thanks for this video it was so needed for me. Which is your favorite detangling method?
Thank you! I didn't know how to tackle my knots.
Yes, I'm doing it right. The issue I'm having is seeing all my shed hair. I find myself examining my shed hair to make sure it's not breaking off. I find my hair growing a little longer using the finger detangle method
Yeah, I get a lot of shed hair too Curly Virgo ! Don't worry about it too much, it's totally normal!
OK good. Because I freak out every single time lol. Thanks.
My is hair is no where near the same length as yours, but I will apply this method very soon. Thanks!
omg, you and I think so alike Whitney.
Thanks! Detangling my hair with my fingers seems to cause less damage and breakage.
