    I’ve learned a few things over the years. So, I no longer use this detangling method. Actually, I don’t even comb my hair anymore. I use a method called Scooping and Spreading to detangle my hair. And I haven’t used a comb or brush in years. Here’s a link to a video to see how I Scoop& Spread my hair - ruclips.net/video/KQN3LO_r2Sc/видео.html

    It's crazy how many people have an issue with the term "nappy" when I was a kid the term "kinky" was also frowned upon but was embraced when the company Kinky Curly decided to launch a line putting the terms kinky and curly together. Most black women don't realize that we've been taught all our lives that everything about us is offensive. Our Skin if it's too dark, our hair if it's not fine or loose enough our speech if it's not clear and concise enough our ability if we aren't acceptable enough. The truth is you have a problem with Nappy because you've been told Nappy hair isn't beautiful, because you've been told you are an insult to humanity if you are black. The truth is you are beautiful and there is a difference between unruly and nappy and neither one is better than the other. if you don't have curls at all or have a head full you are still flawless.

    • @GreenBeauty
      @GreenBeauty  7 лет назад +28

      Well said !!!! We give meaning to words, not the other way around. Especially, for words we use to describe ourselves. To me 'nappy' is unique, exotic and beautiful. :-)

    • @jenbroccoli861
      @jenbroccoli861 7 лет назад +7

      Arielmybelle that's not the point, yo. The point is that the word nappy is a historically derogatory word used AGAINST blacks WITH KINKY AND SHORT HAIR. It was never seen as good.

      @jenbroccoli861 7 лет назад +2

      Krayola D you're sad.

    • @Arielmybelle
      @Arielmybelle 7 лет назад +5

      Krayola D my hair is nappy if I don't detangle it and beautiful no matter what so... why are you attacking me based on my opinion? You're standing against the term nappy being a used for a black persons hair but trying to insult the black person that said it? Then you're basically saying the "Cherokee" in your blood is what makes your hair beautiful? So you basically just proved my point. black people that believe the stereotype are the only ones that have a problem with the term nappy.

    I agree with others who commented on the title of the video. I think what would have been more accurate despite your dislike of the generally accepted hair typing system would have been to title it detangling for type 4 or detangling for type 4b and 4c. The video was informative and is pretty much what I do to detangle my hair except I leave the coconut oil on over night on my damp hair which melts away many of the tangles and shed hairs on its own or makes it easier to get the tangles out. I do think using a brush, especially a Denman on more tightly curled strands like type 4b and 4c hair whether it be on dry, damp or saturated wet hair is damaging. Our hair doesn't care for brushes. Detangling with your fingers is better and easier especially after you've allowed the coconut oil to penetrate the hair and soak/steam for several hours under a plastic bag.

So I'm looking to everything to help on my hair journey. But it feel like everything so overwhelming as I learn. Like what I shouldn't do or do so it's difficult. But I've always been natural. But I never put energy in my hair. Expect washing bi weekly and putting it into a protective hairstyles. Now I've found that high porosity hair and it very thick and medium dense. I'm just trying to find out a good place to start. I've started moisturizing my hair daily with loc method I usually use aloe vera spray or leave in hair milk spray, leave in cream, and castor oil or coconut oil. But still my hair comes out frizzy even after moisturizing it daily. For wash day, I don't have complete regiment yet. But I usually wash my hair bi weekly: shampoo, deep conditioner hair mask, rice water rinse (for my protein treatment), and then the loc method. Overall, I'm highly frustrated, confused, and stressed. Because I don't where to start on my hair journey. I was wondering if I could get some tips or info that could help me get started on my whole hair journey.
    Thank you, jamarrea

      +luvinmynaturalhair Your hair may not be soaking in the coconut oil properly so its just sitting on top of your hair and drying ... Try this: first only apply the coconut oil on clean hair. Use a humectant first like the pH Stabilizing Spritz - greenbeautyproducts.com/ph-stabilizing-spritz/. This will help the coconut oil bind to the hair better. Try not to use too much coconut oil as well. Also if you want the coconut to soak in even more, wear a shower cap for 30 mins. The steam will help relax you cuticles enough for the coconut oil to seep in. I hope this helps !

    I love all the benefits of coconut oil and find I can only use it as a scalp massaging oil due to the fact that it really makes my hair hard :(. I never tried to use it as a rinse out though...I will try this method and see! Thanks! Can we use watered down apple cider vinegar for our acidic detangling spray?

    Thank you for this tip. I love your videos because I learn a lot about my hair and how to care for it. I do the onion juice right before I shampoo. Should I consider the onion treatment as prepoo treatment and if so is it okay to add some oil to it so that I can detangle as you have demonstrated?

    what's with all this whining about nappy hair? I'm fully black, my little is sister is Mexican and black, but when she gets tangles in her hair, I say, "oh, little girl, you're hair is NAPPY!!" she has long, straight, and thin hair. my hair is 3c but I still call mines nappy as well when it gets tangled. guess I was just taught that nappy meant tangled and nothing more.

    • @PackofDiscos
      @PackofDiscos 6 лет назад +11

      That's what you were taught maybe, but that's not what it means or how it has been used for decades. It doesn't mean tangled. The origin of the word is out there for all to look up.
      However, even if it DID mean tangled, tangled hair isn't a good thing, tangled is not a state you want your hair to be in so maybe you can see why people could get upset at their hair always being called 'in a bad state', no matter if it is combed or styled.
      Personally, I use the word to describe my own hair freely because of what it means and my hair by definition IS nappy, however, I understand the emotion behind it so wouldn't refer to a stranger's hair as such.

    Hi I am new to your channel. I am so glad I found you just in time, because while I love my natural, tightly coiled, very fragile hair, I am so stressed out because I don't see the growth I should have after 2 years. I don't see the growth I achieved when I was relaxed. My hair will not retain length so matter what products I buy, or what methods I try. I am seriously thinking about Texlaxing/Relaxing my hair again. But NOW I found you. I am Loving your videos Thank you so much! I have been natural for 2 years. I have found that Apple Cider Vinegar helps keep my hair tangle free, soft, and stretched. PH is about 4 right? So can I use ACV everyday as part of a leave- in conditioner mixture regimen on my hair? Is ACV safe to use on our hair daily? If no what would you suggest?

    My scalp doesn't like coconut oil it becomes itching... I believe I have so allergic reaction to it. I normally use olive oil and apricot hot as a hot oil treatment. Can I just use olive oil to do this?

    In France we use the word nappy is a positive way, that means natural + happy
    But it may not be that way in the US

    I did the steps in this video but if you have 4c hair, please please do NOT use a Denman brush! I brushed out half of my head yesterday...the breakage was so intense it almost left me in tears! Do finger detangling or get a wooden comb...I hear everyone raving about wooden combs around me :D

  • @legadema37
    @legadema37 8 лет назад +2

    I absolutely CAN NOT use a Denman on my very fine soft 4ab hair. It will RIP IT OUT even if it's been modified. I know because I got one & tried it. I have to use a Magic Star Rake, a Ouidad Double detangler, or sometimes a Tangle Teezer

    Hi Nikky
    My hair is always dry and brittle. Of course it softens with product or under water, but right now I'm transitioning to mostly organic/natural/diy products. I love coconut oil, but my hair always feels greasy, and now the side of my head I sleep on has broken off. The sides of my hair cut low, and I have some color on the tips. I try using protective styles, but braids or interlock/crochet is the only way I achieve any growth at all. My funds are tight, but I wanted to see if you had any suggestion to preserve my hair without doing another BC? Also, if you could offer any other tips for moisture, definition, growth, and strength? Lol basically the works
    Thanks in advance
    Jazi ❤
