THIRD - And thirdly, and what I think could have been the big reason why you experience new split is that a lot of people wrongly assume that keeping your hair away for a long time in braids or weave is a good for persevering your hair while it grows. If you don't install and maintain it properly, it could cause even more hair loss and breakage.
My 3yrs old has beautiful hair ♥️ like Indian hair recently experienced knot and split ends, badly so I trimed for her, but I never use any chemical can I use hair protein for her
Just dropping a summary of the points as a reminder to self: 1) Use real protein treatments which will strengthen your cuticles and slow down the splitting process 2) Trimming is important but if you're trying to gain length you shouldn't trim your hair often. 3) Trim your hair/Cut off split ends when your hair is dry not wet. 4) Ensure the scissors you use is as sharp as possible (makes the cuts a lot smoother) 5) When cutting your hair, try not to cut it at an angle, but straight. Lovely video, thanks @Green Beauty
I've always had split ends and I thought something was wrong with me lol 😩. I've been on a hair journey to classic length but every year I cut off about 6 inches and I still have split ends, thank you for this video because I was literally about to cut off 2 inches. I’m going to up my protein and put away the scissors, I might update this comment in 6 months lol 💕🤍
I wish I had watched this video BEFORE I cut my ends last night. Oh well, now I know better. I'm going to focus on better prevention from this day forward.
@@GreenBeauty My stylist cut my front ends in an angle, guess i'm doomed..I'm REALLY trying to grow my hair to my hips, (Im at elbows,) I think I still have some split ends on my hair, (I didnt want my stylist to cut length) but I have decided to just keep them moisturized, If I chop more off, I will just lose length and really regret my decision as I have been growing my hair now for 1 and a half year.
As a science junkie who is hell-bent on proof and logic, I LOVE how you logically and scientifically explained HOW to care for cuticle treatment and WHY it's so important! Yes to science and evidence!
lol okay to clarify, what I mean is that your cuticles are scales that lay on top and protect your cortex like a shield. Over time activities like applying heat, manipulating, washing will eventually cause damage and strip away at your cuticles. Leaving your cortex exposed. Your cortex is very fragile and once its exposed will start to split. I was comparing your "cuticles to a protective shield" not "split ends to a protective shield". I hope this makes sense. :-)
Yes, so the order is water, leave in conditioner, water based cream (I will show you how to make your own in an upcoming video) then oils (the oil is optional)
Very informative, I'm very impressed with your knowledge. You break it all down in simple terms, which is great for people who aren't stylists. I will recommend your site to my friends for sure. BTW, I'm a Latina, and do NOT have curly hair, but to me that doesn't matter your info. applies to everyone, especially those of us who are hair stylists. Thank you, for the free education! LOVE IT! This quarantine is long, I'm just here to binge 🤣🤣 I'm also currently forming my own routine (since I'm a lazy natural) based off of your videos. Wish me luck.
Thank you for clearing that myth about the L.O.C. method. L.C.O. makes more sense because it is just like the moisturize and seal method that I've been taught.
Excellent presentation. I was worried about he split ends I already had. Since watching your video, I am less worried and I know what to do prevent a greater amount of split ends developing; as well as breakage. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and posting a polished video.
wow,..im very glad to know the split doesn't travel up to the hair follicle... thanks for debunking that GBC ^_^ and happy to know split ends are normal ... I guess protective styles will help
FIRST - Okay so since split end equate to cuticle damage. the only way to avoid or at east slow down the process is to be as gentle as you can to your hair strands, eliminated any drying activities to your hair strands, and eliminate the use of harsh ingredients in the products you use. Your new split ends could have been caused from a number of things. First, the method in with the stylist cut your hair could be to blame for causing you end to be weak and unravel easily.
Hi. Whats your full hair regimen . How often do you wash, condition, deep condition, do a protein treatment ect. Could you do a video that please . Thanks
Yes, I recommend the use of a real protein treatment for all porosity levels. The only difference is the measurements and the frequency of use. Watch my video titled, "How To ~ A REAL Protein Treatment" for a measurement breakdown based on porosity level. Let me know how it goes :-)
SECOND - Stylist usually cut hair at an angle with increases the surface area of your ends and increases the chances of more splits. Secondly, its possible that the shampoo that was used to wash your hair at the place you got the braids and full weave could have been to harsh and drying, which causes your cuticles layers to just break off.
I've always used LCO after I figured out that my 4c hair was dry and flaky as all get out with the LOC method. Thanks for your always informative videos.
(1) Thank You... I sill recommend the LCO method over the LOC and the LOCO. B/c in both cases, the "O" is blocking your hair from absorbing the moisture from the "C". Oils should be use as the last layer to seal. If the oil you are using is not sealing is the moisture from the "L" and the "C" well enough,
FOURTH - I'm going to be uploading a video on how to properly install and maintain braids so it can serve a positive purpose. But, in the mean time get to know your hair but wearing it out more often and use your own hair when putting it in a protective style, especially in the summer months.

I hesitate on answer these type of questions b/c I don't want for people to run out and buy a commercial product b/c it works for me, and neglect to listen to there hair if it does not like the product. Part of your journey and getting to know your hair to is use trial and error. And its just as important to know what does not work for your hair compared to what works for your hair. I switch between the Giovanni brand and the Aubrey's brand. What conditioner do you currently use?
I'm not sure if I can do a whole video on that topic but I will deff include that information in a future video. But FYI, they are really hard to avoid. Especially, with natural hair
(1/2) Its not that your hair is not growing, its breaking as it grows. There is something you are doing or not doing that is casing you hair to break at an exaggerated rate. Yes. But the oil is optional. So, the order is Wash, conditioner, Water based leave in conditioner, water based cream, then oil (the oil step is optional)
I love how informative your videos are. I appreciate your perspective on how often trimming should occur. I also feel that layering products on in a LCO order makes the most sense. Though I did try the LOC method once out of curiosity.
All of your hair tips about split ends are very helpful, but my hair grows so fast & I definitely have to get my ends trimmed more than twice a year...

Do u have a book in the making?! Girrrrrrllll, name it “So you wanna go natural...” Bam! You’re halfway there! 😭😭😭 Informative literature (like a website, book, or magazine) would be a VERY lucrative business for you. What I LOVE about you is you educate. Not dance, try to be silly, or simply jump styling without rationale. I LOVE how you educate. Not entertain (well...it’s still entertaining, but you know....)
really really informative... i always thought the other way- i could trim and get rid of spilt ends forever.... i have waist length hair and very few split ends
I have a question. I know all natural hair is different and taking care of split ends is an ongoing thing but I recently used your Real protein treatment for the first time and noticed a difference in my ends. They are still breaking but are much smaller pieces than before. Since I’m low porosity, and can only do the treatment once every four weeks, what can I do to prevent my ends from getting worse before my next treatment? I know keeping them moisturized and tucked away is key as well but what else can be done to minimize my ends from breaking in between treatments?
Thank you for your response! I understand your concern. I, personally am far enough along on my journey to know that everyone's hair is different and what works for my hair may not work for the next person and vice versa, however I cannot speak for other viewers. I was just curious to know if you made your own or used a store brand. I usually Giovanni Deeper Moisture, for a deep conditioner, but use Suave and V05 for cowashing, etc. Do you co-wash? What are your views on the matter?
i have bleached hair and i never experienced split ends before i used some of the loreal colorista semi permanent dyes( i never had problems with manic panic's or pravana's direct dyes), i tried to deal with it but i still have white spots on my hair strands

My second comment on one of your videos. You are the best...perfect information. Wow, seriously..thank you for researching and studying, it shows!!
Yes. But the oil is optional. So, the order is Wash, conditioner, Water based leave in conditioner, water based cream, then oil (the oil step is optional)
I'm so glad that your channel exists ❤ an entire wealth of knowledge
i love how detailed u r abt anything u talk abt...really informative..thnx..
I hope this video gets the credit it deserves, pack full of informative details 💯👌🏾....thank you GB.👏🏾👏🏾💗💞
Nice to see a video on how to keep what you have rather than just cutting it all off!
I love how informative your videos are. I appreciate your perspective on how often trimming should occur. I also feel that layering products on in a LCO order makes the most sense. Though I did try the LOC method once out of curiosity.
3:18 is sooooo true!!!!!!!! I ONLY wear my hair in a puff and I have a lot of incomplete splits it’s crazy
silent shadow not really but i wore puffs EVERYDAY for like 4 years straight
just wondering how you got rid of the incomplete splits because i've got so many of them

Thank you so much. I love all your videos they are so detailed, yet very visual and entertaining. :D I did not get bored once
All of your hair tips about split ends are very helpful, but my hair grows so fast & I definitely have to get my ends trimmed more than twice a year...
Thank you ! That was more than alot of info , I have alot and have been trying to get rid of them .
This is the best hair beauty I have ever seem.
Great Question !! First let me ask you a question. Did your stylist cut you hair while it was wet or dry?
Thank You. I love to hear that b/c that is my goal. I love your videos btw and your hair is so beautiful.
i am taper, this sucks, glad i found this vid, it really helped!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge… great job!
Great video I learned alot although im experiencing alot of damage my hair is feathering leaving the hair very sharp on one end. I would've liked to hear about the hair follicles and how that contributes to my condition. Thanks
Best video on split ends. Thorough.
I'm Caucasian with long straight hair & since moving too ABQ ( which is a high desert) my poor hairs become so bad! I went too Sally's and I bought a load of the ethic hair products ( best products ever!!! And slowly my hairs coming back too the way it was ( very long and very thick blonde straight hair)
hair* not hairs
LILDame37 🙄🙄
Awesome
@@dev4714 I think they meant hair’s. As in they’re ‘hair has become so bad’
This video is well put together and very informative. I truly learned a lot in the process. I just subscribed and be blessed!
What a great video.. Learned so much..! Thanks for sharing..
I have learned so much from you. You are a great teacher!
Thank you, I was just about to big chop to remove them
i have bleached hair and i never experienced split ends before i used some of the loreal colorista semi permanent dyes( i never had problems with manic panic's or pravana's direct dyes), i tried to deal with it but i still have white spots on my hair strands
Thank you Michelle, so are you!
Hellow sis for what I have learned from u .my cuticle may be damaged as I have lots of split ends after big chop like 5 inches 2 month ago
I literally bought a new scissors today ready to trim my ends😹😹 thanks to this video
Thank you so much for all your continued positive words and support.
Thank you Angee !
