    QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:
Do I have to heat stretch for length retention?
    No
What do I do if I get heat damage?
Unfortunately, most forms of heat damage are permanent. To maintain length, the best you can do is to temporarily patch it up with weekly REAL Protein Treatments until your hair gets to a length where you are ready to cut out the damaged parts.
Why do you use heat for length retention if it’s not needed?
Without heat, I would have to keep my hair extra moisturized and lubricated at all times. My skin is acne prone so, it would be almost impossible for me to avoid breakouts. So, I chose a different route.

@@GreenBeauty I love your real protein treatment! I added real protein to my moisturizing conditioner when I washed and styled my hair last week. Today I decided I wanted to heat stretch my hair in preparation for a protective style. Since my hair was still clean from the week prior, I simply wet my hair with water and utilized a humectant product I had on hand along with some avocado oil. I blow dried my hair on a medium setting. My hair feels really soft and has bounce just like you said it would. You have found a long term customer in me! I plan on purchasing your herbal oil and your PH balancing spritz. Bless you!

It took me 2 years to decide whether or not I actually wanted to use this video as a guide to using heat on my hair. And let me just say Sis knows her stuff! I’ve been natural 11 years and I’ve ALWAYS hated using any kind of heat bc in return I’d end up with crispy hair. BUT..... once I finally watched this video and practiced the all steps, invested in a better blower dryer, let me tell you!!!! I’ve never gotten soft hair after heat drying NEVER! I did purchase both types of dryers but I liked the one that was safer on our hair.

I wish I can do all this wahala. And the salonist hairdresser that I use is so use to perm hair that I am always blow up on her when I hear a 'pull' which indicates that she's tearing my hair with force. My hair is exactly as you described the width of each strand is thick and wirey, grows densely together, low porosity, grows into an o, further shrinking down into a tight "o'' when wash or spritz, low porosity, my hair grows up into a crown and never seen it drop down. It is always dry and requires attention particularly the dry scalp, it tangles and knots easily even if I've just hand detangled. The ends are always super dry and break easily hence hair length retention is difficult but it grows fast. Back in the days of 'creme crack' my hair doesn't relax properly with 'regular" products only 'Super' strength but then that burns my scalp easily to soreness. The hairdresser would almost complete a whole jar of relaxer on my new growth because the hair doesn't easily relax. It takes alot to get the growth to take inthe relaxer. And then in 2 weeks afterwards, the new growth is so dense and thick that the comb can't slide through again hence suggesting another perm required but I'd wait until 4 weeks and by then, its a mess of 2-3 In dense growth and the new growth is extremely different from the relaxed side that no styling looks good except a 'bouffon'. Eventually the hair gets damaged and then I start all over again with a severe haircut.....go natural for a while....fed-up and relax again....and back to natural. Now I'm a natural for over 10yrs. Combing my natural hair with comb would sometimes break the tooth of plastic combs or remove the metal tooth of the 'fro comb. My friends referred to my hair as 'the wire'....they say it hurts their fingers when doing a cornrow. But I can't divorce my hair, so it's there everywhere I go with protective styling. I'm thankful because it's full and thick in front to the nape of my head and full sideburns inclusive. Back in the day, my sideburns refused to relax to a straight flat and was annoying. I guess it was telling me something about refusal to agree to the creme crack situation. 😆
Thanks if you read my long epistle.

Wow your hair sounds really thick, full, & resilient, that's awesome! If you're interested in wearing your hair in a more stretched style, I encourage you to try Aveda smooth infusion "naturally straight" styling cream, used 5 times consecutively it straightens your hair a bit but your hair can fully revert back after 3 washes without using it. I had positive results using it & so did a youtuber by the name if Brandie Jeanette - you may want to check out her review. Take care 🙂

I have fine, medium-high density and high porosity hair.
I never really see much of a stretch with heatless methods, however I have never tried to use heat to stretch it.
I am going through a lot of thinning with my edges which is stressing me out.
I think it has a lot to do with excessive dryness of my scalp and dandruff.
If you haven’t could you please do a video on how scalp conditions can cause thinning to hair and how to overcome this as I’m completely lost.

Great video :) Even though my hair is fine hair that's not as tight in texture or density, I still find I benefit from that stretching twice monthly. The heat is VERY low though. It's more so to stretch faster. It doesn't take much and I use a cool/warm dryer to stretch hair that's been mostly air dried

I can stretch my hair by banding but I tried this method in a section of my hair and it was not happy. However, I did discover something really cool. I tried partially drying my hair using the cool shot button and then banding it and letting it air dry. My hair is stretched and very soft. By partially drying it with the cool setting, I reduced the time it takes for my hair to dry which means less time for my hair to be under the tension of banding.

I HIGHLY AGREE WITH EVERYTHING! Hair typing isn't accurate for curly hair, there's different textures and any hair type can have those hair textures. People think that if your hair type doesn't match theirs, it's not that hair type.

  • @BlairWaldorf2013
    @BlairWaldorf2013 6 лет назад +4

I have a higher porosity and medium strands but I do tension blow dry to get the immediate kinks out and then band my hair to finish the stretching process.
I wash my hair 2 times a month during the winter and 3 times a month during the summer. For me it’s the crochets I need to leave alone because they thinned my ends out, luckily I’m not all for super long hair and prefer out.
It takes about 15-20 second per section to get enough stretch from the dryer. Medium heat/high air flow so I’m not sitting on a section too long. I use a wide brush to just smooth my hair once I finish a quadrant.

We could have been the best swimmers in the world if we were not concerned about our hair (good grief!). Everything we are learning about products is found in Mother Earth and our kitchens (lol). We no longer have to choose to spend our money in other communities building up their financial base and draining our own. Ladies LEARN to truly LOVE what GOD has blessed us with. We can help (and save money by doing it) each other with the simplest changes... i know it takes time but the results are amazing- our hair (every Afro/black type) is beautiful!! Thank you for knowledge and detail. This is the only and best way to stretch the hair as well as preparation for a silk press(pre dry prior to stretching the hair). Whom ever created the terminology 4C, etc.... considered whom to market it to. The bighest consumers. Hair has 3 textures fine, medium and coarse which is in regards to curl pattern(s). I have preached for 20 years + that you don't have to manipulate the hair with a brush to achieve length or direct heat on contact with hair you can hold the nozzle 4-6 inches away from the scalp and watch the hair pattern change like magic.

Knowing my porosity, density and strand thickness has been the best indicators of how to manage my hair. Thanks for the well thought out info and not regurgitated info.

    Thanks for the sharing

I always thought your hair type was so cool and wish I had it because you can just do anything with it and it stays put. (And mine is all over the place in the wind ...and tangles… )But then I went to cosmetology school and had to do a lot of different hair and I got good at it but man oh man that’s a lot of work!

QUESTION: Based on the chart you shared, should I avoid stretching my hair since my hair is fine and has medium to high porosity? Back story: I have thought about incorporating periodic stretching into my routine because my hair is fine, dense, and has medium to high porosity. My thought was that I could prevent some single strand knotting if were to wear my hair stretched sometimes instead of curly all the time. Those three features of my hair can mean that wash and go's translate to single strand knots. Often I do twist outs to try to avoid the single strand knots that can come with washing and going, but I've been wanting to try stretching as well. Thank you in advance for your thoughts! Many blessings!

Now I know why I have been unsuccessful at stretching my hair. I have Type 4, with some s curls, some o curls, high density, medium thickness, and low porosity hair. I have both your REAL protein treatment and your herbal oil. I will try this low heat method! Thank you! You are appreciated.

Hi, do you think you will ever do a review on the Revair Hair Dryer. It is an awesome product, though expensive. It's heavy, but you get a nice stretch, with little to no heat damage. I would love if you could do a review. Napturals 85, and some other naturals have done a review on it.

What you said makes so much sense. I see others with my "4c Hair" but yet and still their hair isn't as thick as mine but clearly a similar texture. Also after paying close attention to my hair this year, I've noticed the back of my hair is a different porosity than the middle and front. It takes forever for the back to dry while the middle and especially the front absorbs water TOO quickly. You're absolutely right about our hair being very diverse. Our hair is amazing. I love this method of heat stretching. I may try it soon. I have all of the products by you that you used in this video. Your protein treatment is my favorite. I love it so much. Thanks for educating us on our hair. You explain it in detailed and in simple terms so well. God bless

I'm confused on why people have a problem with it. It isn't meant to be VERY detailed like that. Its and overall. Like general way of organizing the hair. That's it. And its always the same people who say no to this yet keep on and on using it.

I use high heat and airflow and it still takes many passes through to stretch it and dry it. My hair is thick and it takes forever to dry. I do have some heat damage in the front but that’s from flat ironing my hair multiple times within the same week when in straightened my hair.

Your hair is beautiful.I wish you could see my hair, to tell me if there healthy or not and give me some tips. I’m doing the best i can. I try to finger detangle and so on but i keep getting breakage. I leave my hair alone and so on but i’m not noticing much length or have to cut split ends. Do you keep your hair in twist the whole time till the next wash day? Sometimes i just get tired of taking care of my hair and get so less noticeable changes of length retention. Eating healthy , drinking water, making and using natural hair products.Anybody feel the same way?

    • @kcede3597
      @kcede3597 6 лет назад +5

Shade Vrutaal I feel the exact same way. It can all feel a bit too much sometimes. I mean, I love caring for my hair, but when you’re still learning about your hair’s needs (and making mistakes in the process) it can be mentally exhausting and just plain annoying really lol.
      My random thoughts sometimes:
One regimen that works in the summer you have to tweak in the winter....
      How often to protein treat?
      How often to moisturize?
      How often to wash?
Let me play with styling to figure out what works for me...
What products are best for my hair?
I feel like a “wash and go” today but if I do I have to deal with single strand knots...
To heat or not to heat
Is this a week for co-washing?
Omg lol I love my hair, and I am slowly figuring things out. It’s healthy. So I’m happy. Lol You are not alone in the struggle sister. 😊😊
Btw, I make many of my own products too (shampoo, deodorant, hair creams and butters), work out 6 days a week, and a semi vegetarian (I haven’t been able to cut ties completely just yet lol). But, I feel you.

Green beauty I like the way you break down your hair in three different parts, namely the root, middle, and ends and also work with each part according to their needs of blow drying. This is new to me but it makes so much sense. This is really insight into great blow drying tips. Thanks so much. One more thing I am gonna go check out your hair type system, cause to be honest I was using the system that's most popular on RUclips to care for my hair.
