QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: Should I use a heat protectant when I use hooded dryers or steamers? - Yes, your hair should not be product free when using a hooded dryer or a steamer What about flat irons? - I personally have only flat ironed my hair twice since I’ve been natural. It is really hard to avoid heat damage if you flat iron your hair, especially if you flat iron your hair consistently.
I keep hearing a lot of people say using oil in the hair with heat is like frying it but I feel like that was addressed when she said oil heats up the hair quicker so you can use LESS heat. Maybe we are frying our hair because we are using the same amount of heat (probably out of habit) as we do when we use commercial heat protectants. Back in the day pressing oil was big and women straightened regularly and still had nice thick hair.

Very good video again. I am glad you're back. Please add one thing. For a blowdryer oils might be enough. But if you plan to use a straightener or curling iron, this might not be secure enough unless you turn down the heat 😉
This video was amazing !! I wish I new this before straightening my hair as I kind of damaged it with heat but it’s all in the process of learning your hair

*Greetings GreenBeauty and subscribers* 💖 I've been a member of Team Natural since 2007, Recently I have been EXTREMELY SERIOUS about taking better care of my hair. It's so overwhelming because its SO MUCH WORK to care for natural, curly, low porosity hair. Its a lot of work AND knowledge to take in. Prepoo, cowashing (what is cowashing?) LOC vs. LCO, rice water, tea rinses, ACV, deep conditioning, detangling, leave in conditioning, split ends, maintaining moisture, stretching the hair- MY GOD it can be discouraging because I have no clue when to do what and what to do in between. I am curious to know if the water quality affects your hair. Tap water from the shower has a lot of minerals and its "hard water". Does it really make any difference what kind of water I use? Whether its alkaline, distilled or purified water does it really make a difference in the health of my hair? A topic like water quality and hair would make a very interesting video. Love your videos. Congratulations on your move to Hawaii. NEW SUBBIE HERE❤❤❤
I appreciate the research it helps so much. I do a lot of research on natural hair as well. There are times, I like to get to the point with less foolish presentations. This is one of my favorite channels.
This is your first video that i am just not down with lol....i personally wouldn't or wouldn't recommend anyone using oil BEFORE straightening. I feel like it creates unnecessary burning and effects how good the results can be. I think silicone based products (which is basically what is in most heat protectants) is most effective. Again, this is my opinion and i'm very much a supporter and believer in this channel before anyone attempts to argue for no reason...
That's why you should do the protein treatment first to add coat onto your hair and coating oil preferably oil with a higher burning point, (looking at the info she provided Avocado oil seems to have the highest burning point with 271°C) and then use low heat 165°C for instance.
Could you please show us your whole wash day routine + styling ? I would love to know what products you use on your hair. Oh also how you treat your hair throughout the week.
I know this series is mostly on stretching (unlocked)hair, but since it's winter I'm in need of a faster way to dry my locs as well as to ensure that they don't have a chance to develop mold. Should I worry about protecting my hair if I only intend to dry it anyway? I know locs are semi-stretched, to begin with. Thanks for all your hard work and research!
Hey 👋🏾 even though you are just drying your Locs. You’re still gonna want to protect it so it doesn’t look to weathered over time. Use an oil an an acidic spritz but, since you have Locs and want to avoid build-up just use a little bit at a time
I love these videos but I'm sitting here in like okay how does she stretch your hair how does she stretch your hair and then you say wait until the next video lol.........😍😍😍I will just sit here and patiently wait
I use Aloe Vera gel as a Humectant, homemade hair oil for moisturizing and my favorite protein products to protect my 4c hair. I don’t use any heat on my hair, but this video is very helpful when I decide to. Good information, thanks for sharing!☺️💜
I love when we get to see your hair! It really is lovely and a testament to all the knowledge you have. I blowdried my hair for the first time in about 5 years and my scalp is DYING! It is sore and itchy. I suppose the scalp needs protecting too, but maybe not with the same triad of oil-humectant-protein? Just oils? I wonder...
Check out Cyn Doll channel, she will help, in the meantime Keep your scalp clean and free of oils, butters ,grease etc, wash your hair regularly the scalp should be clean and free of products, so the sebum produced can come out and coat your strands.
What if you aren't stretching but drying products. For example a perm rod set or wash and go so you have a moisturizer and gel in your hair is that enough or should you add the things you mentioned as well?
I can't even explain how much I LOVE you and your videos! I have been so overwhelmed with all the conflicting and contradicting info I get about what to do with my hair and your videos have helped me UNDERSTAND what my hair's personality is and what it needs. I honestly can't thank you enough. I love how you scientifically explain what is going on and why do certain things. I agree with the other commenters - I'll believe anything you say 😂
My question is: can protein be used on henna hair? If so when is the best time to apply it after an initial henna application in terms of, one week later etc.?
It would be great if you would create a natural heat protectant. All store-bought products are loaded with different types of silicons. While this works initially, I find that it make my hair progressively drier. It also weigh it down quite a bit. I have loose hair and while still not a %100 sure of my hair porosity , I think I have moved from medium (naturally) to a very high porosity hair. Oils makes my hair look greasy and flat. Using just a little bit of oil won't provide the coverage needed to protect my hair strands.until the right product comes out, I find it easier to use low heat and take forever to blow dry
I definitely use oils and make sure to use a protein rich deep conditioner before I blow dry but what if I use a product like the Revair? I just bought one and still used a protein deep conditioner before using and a light coat of coconut oil and sprayed some aloe juice before I detangled and blow dry is that all I would need? Should I still look for a heat serum?
Would it be okay if I used the LCO method before blow drying then? Especially if the three products description's state that I can blow dry afterwards as well?
