    Hi guys, how big is a quarter for those of us not in the US? (If anyone knows the UK equivalent, 10p?)

    • @GreenBeauty
      @GreenBeauty  4 года назад +57

      Yes, the size of a quarter is similar to the size of 10p and the size of the 50 euro coin
      Quarter = 24.26 mm
      10p = 24.50 mm
      50 euro = 24.25

    It's very depressing having low density and fine strands. Their aren't many natural on RUclips with my density so it's difficult because styling never turns out similar. I thought density was genetic, I've tried plenty of things to increase it and nothing works.

    My hair is medium to dense density but my strands are extremely fine. I became aware that there was a difference between the two when i got my hair straightened and the hair stylist said i had a lot of hair but when i looked in the mirror or put it in a ponytail, it didn't seem like that much to me. My parts are very thin in width yet my braids are medium in size. It really is a learning curve

    • @cherylmks
      @cherylmks 5 лет назад +40

      It took a whole lifetime to discover my hair is fine - revolutionary knowledge because the size of individual hair strands affects EVERYTHING. Thanks to YT'ers like Green Beauty I finally get it. My hair was originally pretty dense - now just medium density - and people treated my hair in a heavy handed way because my hair can look very big. But it cooks down like cabbage or greens. Fine hair breaks more easily. Chemicals can kill fine hair faster than thicker hair strands. My braids and ponytails were always much smaller than one would expect. I wasted a lot of time watching other YT'ers who with big juicy twists and twist/braid outs. It's hard to talk to friends about fine hair because everyone seems to think the word "fine" refers to curl pattern, and they think I'm trying to claim a looser curl pattern. We have so any issues with curl pattern. Also see finallyamber's YT channel. She has fine hair, and there's a growing list of ladies with fine hair on YT now.

    So true.
    I went natural in 2012. I’ve had some growth but cut it off a year ago and jumped back into weave around 2015.
    I feel the Lord is telling me to take a break from weave. Now I’m going through a phase of feeling super ugly with just my hair.
    It’s been a harsh reality...therapeutic.
    Your videos are much appreciated. I needed this.

    • @sunnyedaize1262
      @sunnyedaize1262 5 лет назад +6

      Make it a goal to never go back to weaves. The are so, so many reasons to let go, starting with the fact that you should never feel ugly with your natural hair.
      Set aside the money you'd spend on weaves and put it toward a good cause (like supplies for homeless people, motel rooms for the worst winter days, invest in a black business - anything except putting money in the pockets of people who look down on you for using their product).
      God gave you clay - the only hair in the world that can be shaped into whatever you want. Embrace that. Detox and don't look back. 💝

    This is an interesting video but it doesn't take the coarseness or fineness of the individual hair strands into account. Dense hair that is fine may not have a large ponytail. The way I determined that my fine hair was extremely dense is how hairstylists reacted to it. This is not a scientific test but it was accurate for me - lol. For example I got microbraids years ago and the braider said she could do them in 5 hours. It took her 11 hours to finish mine (she was heated). Some hairstylists would complain and huff and puff while doing my hair. Another braider straight up told me that she knows people who would be unapologetically rough with my hair because they think I have so much hair that it doesn't make a difference. The amount of time it takes to do your own hair is an indicator at well.

      Lovelota yes! That was an excellent point lol I had similar experiences with hair stylist but my hair is both dense and coarse. I believe she made a video explaining the difference before. I have been using oil infused with fenugreek to increase density--which really works by the way. Just put some fenugreek seeds in your chosen hair oil.

    Not 3 months ago I had beautifully shiny, dense hair--moved to a city with HELLA chlorine in the municipal water, and after showering in it my hair went completely dull and began falling out in gobs and gobs 😢 It's so thin now!!! Scary AF!!!
    (I honestly wouldn't attribute it to the stress of moving, I'm an expert mover and it went real easy)

    Thank you so much for this in depth detail of hair type.. I always knew my hair is fine.. But didn't realise that there was more to it.. My hair is fine and dense.. And now it makes sense why it breaks so easily especially because I'm not gentle with detangling.. On wash day (when I'm in a rush and using small tooth combs😣) I'd have a lot of hair loss But i still have a head full of hair (I'd be crying on the inside) I never had issues with my hair growing or looking like it's thinning out, but after it reaches a certain length it doesn't get any longer (especially when I use to perm it) . So now I know fine hair needs to be handle with much much more care.

    @Greenbeauty. I love the information you provide and I'd like to Thank you for the extensive research you do and share with us. QUESTION: I have been trying to find a way to create a shampoo with lots of slip for detangling, that does NOT lather up & does not strip my hair of moisture. I am starting a pool fitness class in a couple weeks and desired to create a non-lathering shampoo for those days to help restore my hair from the chlorine. Could you provide some pointers? I love the clay wash you created and I use that on my wash days. But as it is not mess-less and i will be washing my hair at the gym, I was hoping to find a better alternative. Additionally, it is not cost effective for me to wash my hair with clay that often especially as I have thick bra-length hair. Just looking for some advice. Not sure that it would be healthy to do a clay wash that often either. Appreciate any information you can provide. Thank you in advance!

    You didn't mention aging. Most RUclipsrs I see in hair videos are young.
    Does hair density naturally decrease with aging?
    I would guess it would be hormonal, but would like to know if anything can be done at that point in life. Eating well, staying hydrated and lowering stress is a given. Other than these things is there any hope?

      Aging is a factor. I think that genetics can cancel out thinning hair due to aging, but I could be wrong. My mom and my paternal grandmother both experienced their hair becoming extremely dense. My mom was in her late 40s and my Big Mama was in her 70s wondering how to handle her thick hair. I could barely get a finger through either one of their heads.

      I’m post-menopausal and definitely experienced a decrease in my hair’s density. I have been using rice water rinses for months and noticed hair coming back in my thinned out areas. The thickness of your hair can give the appearance of increased density and rice water rinses definitely have helped my hair appear thicker. I do monthly henna gloss treatments as well. Henna coats the hair strands making them appear thicker. But henna changes the color of your hair slightly, so if you don’t want that, try cassia.

      I did not mention anything about aging b/c sparse hair is not a symptom of aging. In today’s toxic ‘western’ world, it has become normalized thought that aging goes hand in hand with sickness and rapid deterioration. That is not true. This is a topic I’ve been thinking about lately. I want to post a videos on it and show you researched proof and examples of this. B/c our environment is sooo toxic (packaged processed foods, chemicals everywhere etc.) we have to eat Way Better than someone that lives in a natural environment. Better as in foods that are as alive as possible (just picked from the tree). And it’s a cumulative effect, meaning the longer you eat like that, the more you will age like you were supposed to. It’s really hard to completely reverse years of cellular damage when you are older. Well, let me stop rambling... I will definitely post a video on this

    Omg this is my issue with my hair. I was just diagnosed with Hashimotos disease this month and have struggled with my hypothyroidism for awhile (2014) labs are normal but my body is not . It really has been acting up since we had our 3rd baby in January 2019. The struggle of auto immune disease is REAL NO MATTER HOW HEALTHY YOU EAT or what lifestyle changes you make .😢

    @greenbeauty I've certainly switched to low maintenance routine hair care with my tresses. Before I was doing the most when I realized that my hair loves simplicity and a consistent hair regimen. One question, can the rice water be used only on the scalp as this is what I will be doing. I made the rice water put it in a spray bottle and just sprayed it on my scalp, since rice water has a high protein count I did not want to put it directly on my hair per se.
