@@samchapmanmakeup YES!! I gave myself a shag haircut first, and then used your tips to style it, and I am BLOWN AWAY by how wavy my hair is now. I feel like this is the haircut/look my hair has been crying out for.
You're my hair twin! Curly in the neck, wavy and drying almost smooth on top. Gets easily weighed down, despite being very thick and dense and healthy. It just does not absorb product and especially oils (natural or synthetic). And I also need an insane amount of layers and thinning for my hair to look good. Which most hairdressers just will not give you, even if you ask for it. I'm so grateful for the whole 'wolfcut' trend. Now I can finally put a name on what I want.
I’m so glad RUclips suggested your video! I remember seeing you online ages ago when I was more into makeup. This is amazing! I’m in my 40’s now and I love this content 💖
You just literally SOLVED my hair conondrum that I've been struggling with for YEARS. I have this exact hair type and I've never seen anyone actually talk about and address this type where there is waves underneath and basically almost straight hair on top. I so WISH I could have a shag haircut but I have alopecia and the layers would probably expose my hair loss spots, sigh..... anyway, I WILL try this some time either way! Also, you look amazing!! Love your eye makeup as well.
frizz is friction and/or hair that is too dry so it's swelling out to catch the humidity/moisture in the air. If you have any wave or coil or kink avoid friction in your hair. Straight medium hair can handle the friction more a bit of product smooths it back down. coarse or fine hair is a nightmare to tame without make it in weighed down. for dry hair, try a weekly hair mask, a daily leave-in conditioner and/or an anti-humidity product.
That's why you need topping like silicone serum or oil. It will make shield over hair because what is making frizz is your hair with open pores is sinking water from air.
FINALLY someone with my exact hair. I cannot thank you enough!!! I was able to look up the cut and do it myself. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Getting my hair to do something I want has been a life long struggle! Finally something that works!!
I'm black...our hair is even more complicated but doesn't need to be when you just do the basics. weekly shampoo, use a deep conditioner/hair mask, use a leave-in conditioner, detangle with a wide tooth comb, put it in two French braids and get your trims every 3 months/seasonally. that's it! Most straight-haired people can skip the leave-in conditioner and can use a brush instead of a comb.
Same! Nice with your eyeliner. It took me 40 years to realise this to get my waves to do this - NOOOO combing or no towel drying. I leave in my Acid Blonde Redkin Conditioner to tame my highlight damage. John Frieda used to work well pre-bleach days and cheap x

@@jen7834 Irish hair can vary from pin straight to very curly (like any European country really), I don’t think Irish hair is a real term, certainly not I’ve ever hear here in Ireland ever say lol
Two years ago, when I turned 55 and had my menopause, I got my butt-length hair cut into a shag. This is what happened--this is my hair routine--except I don't use any product at all. I finally have the hair I wanted when I was sixteen and got perms to achieve. LOL. I'm going to try with some product, just to play. Thank you.
This is the type of my hair, I’ve found that very recently in my life, im 42! I do exactly the same routine. Few days before I’ve been putting my head down when my hair is almost dry and spray some curly hair product and it looks more fluffy and I receive a lot of compliments :)
I have totally tried exactly what you do with your hair... same haircut as well. My natural hair texture is curly frizzy, wavy frizzy, thick, coarse, color treated, frizzy hair!!! I grew up in the 1960's & 70's. We had nothing as far as product's went, in those years to help my awful hair. I literally and seriously hated my hair. It was a nightmare! People would come and say, you are so lucky to have your naturally curly hair. I wanted to scream, and say you have no idea what you are talking about! However, I never said anything, because I was brought up to be a respectful young lady. Thank goodness that there is help with this kind of hair texture now. It takes a lot of work to get it smooth, but I can achieve it now. I'm happy that girls and women of today, don't have to go through what I had to go through. When I was raising my children, my daughter would ask me "mom how did you do it with no products?" I would reply honestly, and tell her that it was a difficult situation.
In the 80’s London brought out lots of products that did this. Then dupes arrived in the US but today it’s hard to find a pomade that doesn’t also set. Happy to have found this!
I'm black...people with straight fine to medium, low-density hair: just brush it....never brush dry wavy, curly, coily or kinky hair....unless you want an afro. while I'm over hair with kinky-coily-penspring high density but ultra fine hair....my hair would break and the comb.... so glad my trichologists taught me to comb my hair while damp with leave-in conditioner!!
My longer lengths are much more curly, and healthier looking. The shorter my hair is cut, the straighter and frizzier it gets. It's usually the opposite, at least with the people I know. I just stick with long layers. A long wolf cut, looks like a long lion mane. Works.
Yes, I have the same kind of hair, and I agree it is hard to style. If you put too much product, it will become heavy! Thanks, I will try that product to see if I can style it better.
I have the same type of hair. When it’s wet, I apply a lot of MOP TOP curling custard. I scrunch it into my hair and don’t touch it till it’s dry. Once it’s dry, the hair is crispy. I just take a towel and scrunch out the crunch. This makes my hair conditioned and smooth. No frizz.
I have the same type of hair. I stopped going to the hairdresser's because no matter what i asked for, layers and thinning (my hair gets thick and weighted down) i never get what i ask for. I tell them i dont straighten my hair, dont blow dry, i natural dry as much as i can. I always end up with a cut for straight hair. First wash after my cut. I end up looking like no country for old men. Mortified Thank you for all the tips. Lovely hair cut.

Finally someone addressing exactly my hair and my hair problems😊😍! I also got a shag/ wolfcut some months ago and the hairdresser had curly hair herself and I feel like she was the first to cut away enough hair 😀. I didn’t have bangs though because she basically talked me out of them and I‘m not sure it looks flattering on me, but basically, it’s a lot of work and obviously needs to be recut soon. But then again a wolfcut looks coolest with bangs. 😅 The only thing I noticed that bothered me a little with this haircut was, ponytails and anything that can keep your hair out of your face, is not going to work anymore so keep that in mind. Anyway, thanks for the tips Sam, I‘m going to try it exactly like you showed even if my wolfcut is mostly grown out in a way.

I went to my hairdresser and showed them this video for a cut, and they said it wouldn't suit me, so I did myself at home, and you weren't lying. My hair is so naturally defined now, I barely need hair cream or anything, for that fact.
Ok, the hair is amazing for sure. My straight hair would love to be naturally wavy! But beyond the hair, is anyone else dying to know how she did her eye makeup for this video!! Tutorial pretty please!!!🙏🏼
What I have learned recently with our type of hair is: ends need friends. Waves/curls need other hair to form a wave or curl. Had a cut in April and the dresser cut my layers too short on the top so the bottom hair does not have much left. My hair is fine and wavy. Since April I have not had a good hairday and wearing it in a bun 😞
You are a lifesaver, Sam Chapman. I had pretty much given up wearing my hair down because of that combo of frizzy on top -- with no amount of product really helping. And, the combo of curlers (yes I still use hot curlers) or curling iron is tough on your hair. Great tips here, especially as we go into the cooler months of autumn in the States. I do go out with my hair damp pretty regularly in California, harder to do when the temps drop or in the rain. Yes, we have rain in all part of California. I know you've been to LA, but even there it rains! Thanks for the advice, as always to many of your wavy-haired followers.
Oh my goodness Sam, you are STUNNING!! You are getting better with age. You are so Helena Christensen at her prime. Absolutely drop dead gorgeous. Have you had botox in your masseters? ( Hope that isn't rude to ask..) Great video xo
I have this exact hair type. The top part is kind of straight and then underneath I have defined ringlets. My old old old hairdresser said it’s a genetic mixup in our bodies that gives us that hair. Idk how true that is but it is interesting to consider. I recently got a very short pixie cut and it has made my life so much easier styling and frizz wise. I have so much texture in my pixie without any work and the frizz is minimal.
I have this hair and I’ve found for me to cut down on frizz is to actually part my hair on the OPPOSITE side of what I want for styling. Let it dry. The weight of the hair under the opposite side of the part kind of presses the frizz out. The exposed side of the part gets frizzy by being open to the air and movement. Once fully dry, flip hair to the opposite side for the part and hair is much smoother.
Your hair is so like mine , the style, the colour and the wave\frizz combo. It's humidity that does for me, it looks fine initially but after an hour or so out and about on a humid or damp day then it's frizzy hell.
Hi Sam, love your hair, mines very similar shag however I'm blonde, I use merwave n let it airdry or very slowly diffuse it really works, hope this helps. Love your channel n your book ❤
I have a fabulous brush. I used to get the conditioner through my hair when it’s wet in the shower, of course starting at the bottom and working my way up and then letting the conditioner sit for a while, then rinse and never use a comb or brush until the next wash cycle, which is typically 4-5 days later.
My hair is like this, thick, curly/wavy and I get beautiful curls underneath, but the top and sides boof and get frizzy. I love this haircut, mines fairly long atm, for hairdressers have told me I need length to pull down the bulk. I’ve used every product under the sun, but what I’ve found the best is to apply conditioner to damp hair, gently comb through, gently scrunch and STAY OUT OF THE WIND 😂
Hi Sam! Thanks so much for this (as wavy/frizzy haired woman myself) I totally agree with everything you said. Less is more 🙌🏻 I have a wavy bob with a fringe and like to let my had dry naturally too, plus I’m low maintenance or maybe lazy? 😅 thanks for this, especially the shampoo rec 👍🏻 much love xx
“its gonna do what it wants to do the fringe anyway” lmaooooooo that’s so real. i have wavy hair & when i had fringe, every day i wake up to discover different types of fringe lol i just let it do its thing

I love this look! ❤ Beautiful. I find with my wavy short hair I have to shampoo it more often than when I blow dry straight. I can go 5-6 days when straight. How often do you have to wash your hair with this technique?

Absolutely love your hair!! Thank you so for all the great tips.
I try it all❤❤
You look so much like Helena Christensen circa 1990s! 😍
Best hair ever!!! love it
Such gorgeous eyes!
Much needed advice! TY
Love the kitchen!
But your eyes!!! Beautiful!! 🤩
Exactly what I’ve done for years.
I have a fabulous brush. I used to get the conditioner through my hair when it’s wet in the shower, of course starting at the bottom and working my way up and then letting the conditioner sit for a while, then rinse and never use a comb or brush until the next wash cycle, which is typically 4-5 days later.
Wow this haircut is so good on you
I think this video just changed my life.
This background and lighting is really nice!!
Oh thank you!
Yes! Thank you ❤
“its gonna do what it wants to do the fringe anyway” lmaooooooo that’s so real. i have wavy hair & when i had fringe, every day i wake up to discover different types of fringe lol i just let it do its thing
You remind me of Helen Christianson now. She has some great make up looks as well over the years
Sam, so glad to find you again. Started watching you in 2010? We have same texture. Please tell, did you mean 'Olaplex' shampoo, & if so, which one. You are looking so chic & fab!
Completely off topic - but what lipstick are you wearing in this video? It’s gorgeous!
Great video. I need to find someone with coarser hair like mine.
Use rainwater in your spray bottle, I don’t know why it works so well, but it works so well!
I have hair just like that it’s amazing
I love this look! ❤ Beautiful. I find with my wavy short hair I have to shampoo it more often than when I blow dry straight. I can go 5-6 days when straight. How often do you have to wash your hair with this technique?
