    I think Spike feels lonely. Every one in this season is alone, dealing with their own stuff and he makes no exception. After Dru left him and he broke up with Harmony, somehow the Scoobies have become his.. new gang! Of course he's a souless vampire, always ready to take advantage of the situation. But after Adam turns on him, instead of fleeding, he stays to help Buffy and co. And for a good fight, for sure. Come on!

    After the spell takes effect and Buffy becomes one with Willow, Xander and Giles, Buffy's voice changes. The effect was achieved by combining the 4 actor's voices.

    What I love about this episode is that the source of their power is so simple; Buffy‘s strength, Giles‘ knowledge, Willow‘s power, Xander‘s faith, and the bond that connects them.

    Agreed that Adam was underwhelming, easily the Buffy Big Bad that left the least impression. But that's a steep curve to grade on anyway. Also, it makes total sense Xander made it down so much faster. Residual Halloween Military Knowledge.

    Pre-watching this video: Now, before I watch the just now unwatched next episode reaction of _Restless,_ I want to see Dakara wonder what _Restless will be about considering things seemed to be wrapped up in this episode.
    Post-watching this video: "This felt like a finale to me." Wasn't disappointed.
    Neither Maggie, nor Adam were villains who mattered this season. The real villain this season was the idea of high school vs college and the struggle to keep the group together now that college has broadened everyone's horizons of the world. Maggie Adam, and even all aspects of The Initiative were just people and concepts within that problem. The same problem many real life people struggle with, sometimes from/with elementary to junior high and junior high to high school, as well as high school to college.

    I'm sorry to hear about your technical issues, those can be frustrating. I hope you noticed that once again Xander is the catalyst for the solution. He never gets the credit he deserves. Yes Adam was a bit of a let-down, he was a stop-gap when the season got hobbled by the loss of Seth Green and Lindsey Crouse partway through. Then the writers forgot to come up with Adam's overall plan. Still the quality of the individual episodes is very high for this season. Good luck with ep. 4X22.

  • @feudist
    @feudist Год назад +3

    Season four had its struggles and issues. Losing the High School setting, dealing with young adulthood, introducing and establishing multiple new characters would have been enough. But the writers also had to deal with losing their Big Bad actress and the departure of Seth Green mid season.
    The upside was a higher number of brilliant one-off episodes, some long form humorous setups and of course the inclusion of Spike as a major character. I rewatch more eps from this season than the others.
    The next episode is a humdinger. It can be viewed as a coda to this season, a prequel for S5, or as something ELSE entirely...

    Agree about Adam. He was a sh1t villian. Everytime we see him it was like "insert villain here"... Jonathon figured out Adam's power source, not Riley. They credited Riley, but he remembered what Jonathon showed his team. "Time to bring out the big guns." LOL .. So Adam was actually wrong when he said Jonathon doesn't matter.

  • @mystmagyk3101
    @mystmagyk3101 Год назад +7

    Yes, Adam was dissapointing, but that was probably because he wasn't meant to be the Big Bad. From what I've heard it was meant to be Prof Walsh. Just like Seth Green, the actress wanted out, so the writers had to rethink the end of the season.

    • @Logan_Baron
      @Logan_Baron Год назад +2

      I had always understood that, but I also heard the actress say that she hadn't and it had always been told to her that the character would be killed off then.

  • @Logan_Baron
    @Logan_Baron Год назад +1

    Yes Adam was kind of a let down as a big bad. Some say that it's because Walsh was supposed to be the Big Bad, but the actress left the show early. But the actress has said that's not the case and she was always cast to be killed when she was. And her credits don't show any regular role around that time on another show, as was speculated as a reason. I look at it as what Giles says in the next episode (since you've already seen it) "It's about the journey". The Big Bad isn't that important. This season was really about a new chapter in college, and the way they all grew apart, only to get back together in the end. Whether the effort to write those stories/scenes prevented them from fleshing out Adam better or not...... The concept could have been good. Banding demons together along with a demon hybrid army. And the contrast between the initiative and the Scoobies, Science vs. supernatural is interesting, with Adam attempting to combine the two. So it feels like it could have been something more, but we just didn't really see a lot of it build up or play out. But still a great season for the personal stuff. I mean getting Tara is a win in itself.

  • @killianlpc
    @killianlpc Год назад

    S4 was always going to be slightly difficult because The High School years were over, and the show had to find a new direction. Overall I thought it was disappointing compared to other Seasons and felt somewhat disjointed. Adam, even wasn't really a 'Big Bad' compared with the arc of other seasons. That being said, this was an entertaining episode with the big fight towards the end reminiscent of a Bond Film, with lots of people in a massive big fight in a complex with all sorts of weapons etc, but bullets are flying everywhere but nobody getting hit! We see Willow again gaining amazing power, and being able to transfer to Buffy to make her invincible, there were shades here of The Matrix with the slow motion shots and the strange deflection of Adam's attacks. Riley shows great courage to remove the chip from his chest, and when Buffy pulls out Adam's power source we get a great sense of satisfaction. Once again we have an X-FILES type ending where the men discussing closing down The Initiative could easily be Cancer Man and Assistant Director Skinner as a closing X-FILES scene.

    It's a shame that Maggie Walsh wasn't the Big Bad as planned. She could have offered so much more than Adam. A connection to Riley, being a normal human who has government resources to use against Buffy, a Frankenstein-like monster to fight Buffy. Adam was not nearly so intriguing a villain, unfortunately.

    There are so many Xander haters out there and i will always be on the LoveXander train. I saw a TT recently where a fan reiterated the same rhetoric that Xander has no character growth and that bugs me to no end. Not everyone is the same, not every goes through life the same way. Some people struggle. Xander is a very human element to this show and i can myself relate to Xander. When you dont feel good enough, or understand where your place in life is its so easy to get lost and feel like any effort to better yourself is just not worth it. That doesnt mean you dont have growth through that, its just slower. Here in this episode we see Xander take stock of these things his friends have said, which he already knows about himself, but he vocalises it with Anya. How that may or may not change him, we'll see, but just having that moment can put things in perspective. But you also need that confirmation and afformation from those around you more than others. I dont think Xander suffers from depression, but he definitely exhibits certain behaviours and characteristics of depression and an extreme lack of self confidence in his intellect and self worth, while outwardly being the one cracking the jokes and trying to make things lighthearted and 'better', which always reminds me of Robin Williams who suffered greatly himself while still be humourous on the exterior.
    I dont know, it bugs the heck out of me when people dont look deeper and expect every one to learn and the live the same. Tarnish one character for even slight mistakes and absolve others who make horrific mistakes.
    Anyway. I've gone on a tangent. 😂 It was just nice to hear a reactor actually see how low Xander was in that scene with Anya.

    Posting my BUFFY REWATCH recap for ‘Primeval’. May contain spoilers.
    This scene was so sweet. The OG Scooby Gang back together again. Buffy and Willow acknowledge that they've drifted apart throughout the Season. They all had their own individual things going on. Buffy dating Riley. Willow breaking up with Oz and then dating Tara. Xander living in the basement, struggling with finding and keeping employment, and not being apart of the college life with Buffy and Willow. And Giles, going through a midlife crisis now that he has no job and no responsibility to Buffy or Willow and Xander. They say their sorry's for the finale of the Season and make up. How fitting when the way to save the day requires them to be attuned to each other and in harmony like never before to perform the enjoining spell.
    I just love how it's brought up by Buffy that Willow had all the right to keep Tara a secret given how much fear she was feeling over it. Coming out is difficult. I've been there. I know she doesn't have a huge story with identifying that her sexuality is different but I appreciated what little there was. Especially for back then. In 2000. It's a huge deal and they had to be so careful.

    I think the whole season 4 arc could be improved significantly without changing a line of dialogue, just by changing the Adam effects to show his evolution. Also to incorporate more interesting demon abilities than a skewer arm! In many ways the demon from “I Robot, You Jane” was more interesting to me.

      "without giving detail away, let me kill the suspense and the character arch of a fan favourite!"
      smh. Don't do this shit. It's just spoilers (and I'm not personally upset by spoilers myself, but it's something that every reactor specifically asks the audience to avoid)
      Tara is SUPPOSED to be sus. It's what makes the eventual outcome satisfying.

      Spoilers for a different show ahead, do NOT read if you want to watch Agents of Shield (which you should) except CvSp22 who should read anyway even if they haven't seen the show so that they can understand how a "nonspoiler" implication can ruin an absolutely amazing moment with several seasons of setup.

      @@DmGray For almost every case you would be right. In the Buffyverse there two exceptations. One is already done, which is to say 'keep the Faith' around 3x19 to be solved in the fourparter 4x16/17/1x18/19 and the other one is this, since it lowers the experience if a misdirection hits unintendedly stronger than the makers expected.

      @@brianmiller3529 Well, this is just poking some fun out of it. The reactors sometimes even start to undergo the Mandela-Effect cause of that, but even this is harmless, cause it didn't give anything away and when she appears in the credits 2nd episode she is in, it's still not ovious if she stays only for that one - like Jonathan - or for the whole rest of show or any time period in between. It doesn't minor the view experience. A good experience is, if you either undiscover sth by yourself, or you get fooled and get a release like Cordys fakeout in S3 or if you feel sorry for a charactere after a reveal like in the end of 5by5 or if you feel like being caught and start thinking about it (happened to me e.g. at the end of 'The LEGO Movie'). But if you do someone horrorbly wrong, like some do from time to time in this particular case, when the mislead extended over the point it was intended, you feel bad and with a high possibilty, it lowers yours (respectivly the reactors) and the viewers experience as well, didn't it? This is why in those cases a hint seems necessary to avoid that.
