learning the science behind different nutrients, their chemical compounds and how they interact with the body (and basic metabolic cellular demand ) is normal. Its not rocket science, some people actually care about what they put into their body.. Not just buying whey protein, glutamine, creatine and other obvious/ general knowledge that people have about nutrition and working out. Good for you Rob, we need people like you to teach the fitness community about Health Science

And keep in mind that I had not worked out at all until 1 year ago. In that one year I have put on 40 pounds, at least 18-20 of which was muscle, and plenty of the rest is other contributions to lean body mass (bone mass especially). This whole time, I have been eating whatever I wanted, so long I hit my targeted macronutrients.

sugar doesn't mean it's absorbed quickly. fructose is monosaccharide but it has low GI because it needs to be converted to glucose by isomerase which takes time.

@rasmusfalk it takes time for ur body to break down foods and get its nutrients to your muscles and you're limited on time after you work out, so you need a shake like this because your body can quickly get all the protein and carbs to your muscles. You're not tough because you decide to eat a meal after a workout when a smoothie like this is so much more beneficial.

20g of protien every 3 hours in and around training is best (make sure one of these protein intakes is just after training). if you take 50g in one go it has been found that only around 20g of that will be benificial. it is better to spread your intake out. This info is from the Australian Institute of Sport.

For your information, when I was at the bottom of my cut, I had defined abs, and a noticeably visible adonis belt. Now I am left with a 4-pack while I am putting more muscle on, and I expect it to go away once I reach the pea of my bulk (whenever that happens). When I cut once again, I will have noticeable abs again. I see no point in staying aesthetic year-round. Do what you want to do and do what's optimal for reaching your goals.

There's a difference between liquid and raw eggs, liquid eggs are digestible. Thus it's not a waste of money. Pasteurized egg whites are also tested for salmonella so there is no health risk. It's a good addition to a shake.

Granted water could be better for leaning down and not wanting much calories, but for a hard gainer or someone who really wants to bulk up with easy calories, Milk is great, though no fat or semi is best. I use it all the time and its basically just sugar and has carbs, no going wrong. Though I should mention oats should be added to for an even better PWO.

I agree it is a waste of money if you have time to cook and eat a good meal but for me personally and many other people time is a factor and do not have time to cook a meal and the whey is a quick solution to the problem as well getting the nutrients your body needs after a workout

Dates are just one example of a dried fruit. Anything with a high GI rating should be just as effective, providing it's not simple, refined, sugar. Vary it up and add things such as dried apricots, goji berries/ other berries, currents, etc. I would keep the weight of carbohydrates about the same. The reason you go for whole foods as opposed to processed is due to fibre, vitamin and nutrient content (at least in most cases).

  • @lnvoke
    @lnvoke 12 лет назад

Basically, you need it for the next time you workout so that your body doesn't use nutrition from your muscle as energy sources. It's called muscle catabolism. Muscle loss doesn't really occur to easily but the point is to be growing as much as possible, so why let your muscles starve after a workout? They absorb the most nutrients after a workout as well, so they will be replenished the next day you workout.

It's not a waste of money, for one you can replace other protein sources with whey and probably save money and time, and since it's in liquid form it will be used by your body more quickly. And it's perfectly safe to take as a minor. With that said, whey protein isn't magic, so you shouldn't expect huge differences from it.

"...but it isn't nearly as efficient."
Yes! Exactly! Carbs ARE the best energy source for the body. Absolutely. I completely agree with you on that.
But to say that they are required for survival is wrong and unsupported.
Read "Is dietary carbohydrate essential for human nutrition?" by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The second paragraph mentions a list of essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, and a list of vitamins and minerals.
    It also lists zero carbohydrates.

You can fast and build muscle. As long as you're eating in a caloric surplus with enough protein and a plenty of fats and carbs, you'll put on muscle. Many people (including myself) have built muscle while fasting. Likewise, you don't have to fast to lose weight. All that is necessary is that you eat below your maintenance level for each day.

Matt Ogus placed first, amongst another 3DMJ athlete (Chris Owens), who ALSO mentions (in a video on the 3DMJ RUclips channel) that he eats ice cream and follows flexible dieting protocols.
Matt does not appear to use steroids. I see no high androgenic response, no unnatural release of IGF-1, and he looks depleted when he competes. He looks just like the other natural athletes. This all goes for Owens too. If anything, the 3rd placer appeared to be the one on gear.

Bananas are great as they are mainly glucose but.... fructose isn't what you want post workout. Some fruits are great post workout as many are mainly glucose which works quickly. Fructose on the other hand operates in a very different cellular mechanism taking significantly longer to reach the muscle. Take a few minutes on wiki to learn how glucose / fructose differ in terms of metabolism. RJ has achieved amazing results but we can all learn something at any level.

in my opinion the complex carbohydrates takes too long to digest and you need the carbs to store the protein. So you need simple/fast sugar that will give you the energy boost to refill the muscles. The 45 min window that you have to get in healthy food after a workout is not about getting the food into your stomach it's about the time it takes the postworkout meal to digest. Just saying.
