The single best video on the internet describing IB vs sealed vs ported pros and cons. The title is "How much power does IB draw" but the reality is this is a clinic on various enclosure types. I'm so inspired by IB for SQ... I can't believe I'm even considering cutting a big ass hole in the spare tire well in a US$150k car.
Great video!
It’s YOUR channel - don’t get caught up with people who complain. We enjoy your videos due to the information and variety of content - keep doing what you’ve been doing and people have the freedom to find other channels if they disagree.
Cheers from the States! 🙋♂️👍
Yes. Have been wanting you to post about this. I’m starting a trunk baffle with an FI IB15. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
The level of nerd science in this is epic. Most people will never get any of this.
I appreciate all this... all this allows for magic to happen if you dig into things. It’s not all about spending money and expecting greatness. You have to put the work in!!!!
Yeah, it’s pretty deep shit! That’s the reason why in don’t have 100k+ followers! 😃
@@pssound9749 100k followers that do nothing or 100 that believe they can build on what you teach and change the game.
You can’t take the knowledge with you!!!!
Education is much appreciated. Thank you.
All this data you can gather, including excursion, blows my mind 🤯 These are amazingly tuned systems 👍🏼
I am going to build mine in a month or two, so this is sooo helpful, thanks broh! 👍
Awesome 😎 video, I'm doing 4 Ultimax 18 IB ..... Your such an inspiration @pssounds Peter
Don’t ever change the long discussion style format. It’s a very nice change up than regular showcase and jam vids… while they have their place…. Your vids do too!
Excellent explanation Pit.
Thank you for this! Exactly what I needed to see🙏
Thank you so much Peter!!!!
I would watch you talk for hours lol. Thanks for all the great content.
I was just starting to really enjoy this ,and then it ended. Lol.thanks peter,I definitely 👍 learned a thing or 2,
We love what you bring to car audio. Keep up the incredible work that you do.
very interesting. Loved the explanation.
Thanks Peter. Great info.
You have inspired me. I am going from a 12” Dayton HO sub in a sealed box with 400w. Going to make a trunk baffle in my Honda sedan and run a AE 15” with the same 400w. I am hoping for good results. Thank you for giving freely of your knowledge to regular people.
If it helps people, it keeps the culture going too. There’s lots more deep content on www.patreon.com/pssound, worth checking out.
Awesome video Peter!!! Thanks for posting!!
Knowledge is power my friend . I love to learn more. I am very interested in ib.
I’m going from a 12” xfire xfr sensitivity 91db in a ported box tuned about 35hz to a fi ib315 sensitivity about 87db trunk ib. AE are very nice but double the price. Great video again. Would love to see a Helex vs zapco DSP video.
Peter is there a difference in Big brand DSP’s for car audio.
@@charleshamilton6177 With helix pro and ultra, zapco V you in the formula one. With Audison Bit One HD Virtuoso you even have fir filter, that is a game changer. Mosconi and other brands are not therefore unusable, however
Great video peter! Thank you! It would be nice to see how the famous jbl gti15 compares here!
Well, model it for yourself! 😉🔊🔊
I was thinking the same thing! Because the W15GTi drive design with the dual coils and dual reversed magnet system, It would seem to be ideal for IB! I don't have modeling software installed, but just looking at the specs, the JBL have almost double moving mass, almost triple the inductance and a lot stiffer suspension than the IB15AU.
Roger Hansson many people use those drivers in IB still today. We built the BMW M5 with a pair of them in trunk IB last summer too.
There are dozens of speakers that could work and people always ask me for opinion, but i don’t have time for that, hence this video, which should help you to model it yourself.
I've genuinley never heard an IB setup and I'm so curious. I've heard amazing things and want one but I don't want to hack my car apart 😂
Look at the Russians who put a 32” through the roof of a Lada estate! If you don’t have to worry about the resale value of the car, then just DO IT! 😃
You can easily make a trunk baffle work without cutting a single hole. You coyld even do it in a lease if youre careful and return the car in a bone stock condition.
id love to do true ib, or even normal ib in my car. unfortunately cutting holes in the body is illegal in Australia and my ski port area is tiny compared to a sedan. :( great video as always Peter :)
Bass gets through the rear seats. Check the test in the trunk IB playlist.
@@pssound9749 not so much the rear seats. its an r33 skyline coupe and it has a big bolt on metal plate to seal off the boot section, as the battery and fuse box sit behind it. last i measured you could barely fit a 10 in the gap haha. my next option is just doing a sealed 12 in the wheel well. thats a long way off yet :) thanks for responding too
иїѕмөғяєдк 1-2x 15” in IB would still push more pressure through that opening than a 12” in a box in the spare wheel well.
@@pssound9749 but i dont wana cut my car and move my battery/fuse box haha. im one of those oem+, cutting=bad kinda dudes 😅
edit: just realised i contradicted myself. 🤦
People need to understand that any subwoofer can be used for infinite baffle. Open air subwoofers just work a little better.
Peter, please you need to make a video on the new Helix Conductor. I want to know more about it when it becomes available thank you.
I just have to find a project for it too in someone’s car! 😃
Interesting simulations. Have you made measurements inside the car to see how it compares? Do you still get similar "cabin gain" in car, as with normal boxes?
In the -90's a-periodic damping was all the rage (for a little while) with trunk IB systems. Have you tried stuffing the vent with different materials? I think the idea was to flatten the impedance curve?
There are 3 videos on Patreon showing cars with true IB subs and the measurement/tuning part. No need to fiddle with restricting the subs when the response is just as good as you can ever ask for!
@@pssound9749 Nice! I was just looking at patreon, but 20+ $ +tax /month just seems a bit steep, for me at the moment. :) Thanks for all of your other videos, though! Very inspiring!
Roger Hansson you can subscribe once, watch the existing videos and make a call later whether you can carry on supporting my channel or not. If not, then unsubscribe. 🤷🏻♂️😃
To answer your question, yes, you still retain PVG or Cabin Gain with an IB alignment.
IB is a subset of sealed.
Sealed, vented, bandpass, FLH, tapped horn, etc ... all retain cabin gain.
On the other hand, OB, or Open Baffle ... applications do not allow for cabin gain below the volume's fundamental mode.
Is there
Such thing as servo Ib? If so... is it any good?
Never heard of any, possibly because there is no need when you use the right subs in IB.
are image dynamics idmax drivers no longer viable for IB applications?
No longer viable? Did i say that? 😃
I only modelled few options, there are many more drivers suitable for IB.
Is a sub in a much oversized box IB? I’m thinking if there’s no air spring suspension then it must be?
Something like that. In a saloon trunk, we call the application trunk IB.
In practice if the sealed box volume is more than 4× the driver Vas, it can be called IB
Ali Mahdavi everyone comes up with these numbers, 4x, 5x, 10x 🤷🏻♂️
Application maybe “IB like”, but not every sub is gonna work optimally like that.
Hey i have a jbl w12gti mk2 .. do you know it/know about it? They're a fairly decent sub. Well i got tired of the added space/weight a ported 12" box used & now using it in the 1st IB setup I've ever done. It's 6ohm so I'm running it @ 3ohm of course w a Alpine pdx 1.1000.. basically it's my 1st time ever and i don't want to damage the sub cuz they're kinda hard to come by now.. I'm hoping you can give some advice.. Like should i turn the amp down from where it was in the box? Not with the volume up at much? Or mess with any of the filters etc? Use a smaller amp? Basically any tips you are able to give please. It's so new to me and I keep watching videos and just not really understanding if i should do anything differently. Please and thank you either way if you choose to help me or just for the info you share in these videos!
Hi Peter, maybe a stupid questions but is it possible to use the air vent that are oem in the car to make ib setup? I mean the vent in the car that are use to evacuate pressure when we close de door...just a reflection not a real project...
It’s not sufficient enough for a 12”-15”, maybe for an 8”, but for true IB you ideally want cone area, so for a larger driver you’d need to cut.
@@pssound9749 ok noted cone area at least…thanks Peter.
Hi Peter.i am from India..I would like install sql subwoofer and mono amp..kindly please suggest..front and rear doors I am using morel virtus components..
For SQL you want ported or bandpass or TL.
@@pssound9749 ported ,thank you for reply
thanks, curious the program you use?
WinISD.
Hey how's it going ,my Qts on my fi Team 12 inch subs are .27 , would they sound OK with an infinite baffle??? Running a salt 8....in a 2017 Honda accord trunk baffle ??? Just want to know what you think.
Hi,
Every subwoofer can move in IB, but what it plays like is a different story. Subs with low Qts feel happier in an enclosure. I’d rather play IB with subs with higher Qts like 0.6 and above, high VAS for a 12” 100L+, low Fs below 25Hz. Also, IB plays great with large cone area, so like min 2x15”, 1x18” or more.
Hi Peter, hello guys. I struggling to understand every word in the Video. Can anyone confirm that likes to play 20hz, that vented enclosure with 20hz tune is not the right way?
Ported box can play low if it’s large enough with low tuning, indeed, BUT, it will never sound anything like IB.
How loud are your IB's outside the car? Do all the cars around you have to listen to it to?
It’s quieter outside than a daily boomers booming ported box inside of the car.
It doesn't build pressure outside the car, in the same way it does inside the car.
@@pssound9749 Interesting! What about road noise coming into the cabin through the cones? I always assumed IB systems like this was only for extreme competition use, with the cars being trailer'd to the shows. Do you use this as a daily driver? I really want to cut up my car! :) But it's my only car... :(
@@ExtraKimB Hi ExtraKim! Are you in Kalmar? Do you know of any IB-setups like this in southern Sweden? I'm from outside Kristianstad. Have never heard a car like this IRL.

@Pssound , I'm currently working on 4 zvx 15 D2 sealed IB on a skv2 4500 amp inin a 1988 Yugo gv I have second sk4500 to install but it's getting repaired atm. I'm trying to decide whether to port or not, how much do you suppose I would gain theoretically by porting, also should I go slot port or aero port?
