Looks like fun. I still have bags of sand in the back of my truck during the winter, regardless of being in 4x4. It really helps to settle the back end down, and keep it from hopping around as much on the back end.
I have a Honda Fit. Best car I've ever owned. (I've owned a mustang, a g8, and now a bmw) I lifted it and put winter tires on it. Dominates the midwest snow. Next step is putting in a limited slip, but the thing does great in all weather on the right tires. I've autocrossed it too. 😆 People are sleeping on this car. It's the most fun, and reliable, practical daily driver you can buy. (I've fit a stove inside it that I bought my mom for christmas!)
pickup trucks are inherently worse in icy, snowy highway conditions, even off road they are not the best, a light weighted rear end will not have good traction for going, stopping and turning, adding some ballast would help a lot, but by far they get "squirrely" faster than most vehicles....the electronic stability controls aid some, but its not perfect.
@2:36 Note the back up camera can become blocked and use of a spotter may help you avoid backing into sheds. This safety tip brought to you by O'Sullivan Law. Call us when Tommy is driving in your neighborhood today. 🤣
Thanks for the video guys. I often wonder how the factory off road tires would perform in real world conditions and you show an example that most people above the snow line can appreciate.
Thanks for all the videos. As for the BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A tires are listed as 3PMSF on the website. I bought these for my Santa Fe. Love them.
I bought a 2023 Ford Ranger 4X4 and the factory tires are absolutely awful in the snow so I want to replace them with different tires. Which tire would you recommend for in snow? The BFG’s that are on Blueberry or Firestone Destination AT2’s? Thanks

@@QueensizemusicThere's another RUclipsr that watches the availability and pricing of 24' Tacoma's in his area sometimes. When that video with the "pop" came out, I found it interesting that not only did the ADM pretty much go away from most dealerships, but a few actually had discounts. The discounts were small, but still there were discounts. It's too early to just "let it go" and carry on as if everything's perfect. And Tommy complained about it not wanting to go sideways. Or the way he put it,the back not wanting to kick out, it didn't want to let him have to much fun.
It was a part that broke in the front differential. Instead of just replacing that part, they replaced the whole differential under warranty. Apparently Toyota wanted their front diff to study...
You guys keep saying that the BFG TrailTerrain is not snow rated. But online tire sources say it is 3PMS. Did Toyota get a special version not rated for snow? If so, why?
Perfect conditions to ping another front diff? They mentioned in past videos the ADD was at fault so was that the electronic shift fork or the splined collar the fork engages to connect the front drive shafts that popped?
Quick question. Why don’t you have the lovely front end lower air dam on today🤣. Also. Snow driving is way more fun with a small front wheel drive car and a center of the car hand brake for slow motion drifting.
I dont think the capabilities of a TRD is in question. Its the longevity of the the turbo 4 banger vs the tried and true V6 that everyone is concerned about. We shall see.
The tire choice Toyota uses from BF Goodrich and Falken as standard equipment on some Tacomas, RAV4’s and Tundras are not snow rated. Aftermarket models of these tires are snow rated.
When will you get into detail on what broke? All you said was the part that broke and that they fixed it. Toyota reached out to you directly. Did the update or re engineer the part. Should we all be worried about it braking on us? That has to be more to the story… please share.
There's a part in the differential that broke(they said what it was called, but I don't remember). Toyota said that the part was designed to break under an extreme load, to prevent total destruction of the differential. So it was designed to act like a "fuse". However, it obviously broke far more easily than was expected. Toyota engineers are looking into it. That is what is known. I'm sure we'll hear more about it when Toyota figures it out.
@@Adriangee818All people know now is that the differential failed during relatively mild off-roading. A lot of people saw it. That's not a good look for Toyota, a brand that depends on reliability for it's success. It's in their best interest to give TFL the details as quickly as possible.

I'm glad you mentioned the sandbags. In an accident they become dangerous missiles. Plus the more way you add to the truck the farther it takes to come to a stop.
Adding some weight to your rear axle definitely improves your braking. My F150 is 4wd, and I rarely have to bother engaging it in snow & ice if I have 400-600 lb of sand in the bed-and the difference in braking is noticeable.
