Probably one of the better videos from TFL in quite a while. Basically to the point & not a lot of fluff.
Nice to be to fast forward turning a 20 minute video into about 6 forgoing the bad dialogue and personalities.
Same thing I do with the Hoonigan videos.
I stopped watching them because of all the Fluff.
The Fluff is starting to stink
Yeah I had to unsubscribe. The videos are a pain an a waste of time. Especially when they call a ridgeline a truck. They put so much dumb stuff into the videos like a vlog instead of just reviewing vehicles.
For being a mile above sea level, the frontier was very close to the turbo taco
At about 900ft elevation, where I live, the Nissan feels quick. I was surprised when I test drove it.
@@RockCh4lk Didn't TFL test hit 60 mph in 9+ seconds when they tested it previously? Let's just say at sea level that cuts about 1.5 seconds and with a better driver. It's probably still in the 7 second range, which is not that good.
Even w/o a turbo, the Frontier has a lot more cubes.
Not what I was expecting, I thought the 2.7 Colorado would have cleaned house. Only thing predictable was the Jeep dead last. I thought the Toyota and Ranger would have been close but not even in the same ballpark. You can see Ford knows how to program that 10 speed watch it jump forward every time it shifts next to its opponent. The 10 speed probably has more to do with the win than you’d think.
Tacoma
Wow, surprised the Ranger is the fastest truck and that’s with the baby motor. Can’t wait to see what the 2.7 will do, or the Raptor with the 3.0.
Car & Driver has the Raptor within a tick of the fastest non Raptor R F150 so in the 5.3-5.4 range, and about where the Explorer ST is.
Should help Ford dealers price gouge just a little more than if it wasn't.
I have the 2.7 in my F150. It is very quick. It is so fast in Sport that I don’t even use that to avoid getting myself in trouble. Now at 100k, truck still looks like the day that I bought it. Oil changes, and recently changed the plugs - which was easy, lots of room near the engine.
Man i hate it
@@Legos37😂😂so fast in sport lmao. Placebo effect. Your shift points are just lightly changed. Want to feel fast, get it tuned.
Who remembers the GMC Typhoon and GMC Syclone? 1991 to '93. Fun and fast like a wild horse.
Syclone would destroy all these trucks as it ran low 4s in 0-60 and mid to low 13s in the 1/4 mile, but it was only built to go fast. The rest of these trucks can also handle offroading, well maybe not the Honda.
😂😂😂😂. Never.
@@shay1116 GMC claimed a sub-five-second zero-to-60-mph time for the Syclone, which was just insane in 1991. (Specifically, the estimates were 4.6 seconds to 60, and 13.4 seconds through the quarter-mile.) The Typhoon was slower, notching a mid-five-second (5.3-second) zero-to-60 time. GMC was proud of its top speed-124 mph(!).
I had a Syclone. It would do low 14's at pretty close to sea level.

Yes if that awful sounding 2.3 in the Ranger is this quick- the 2.7 V6 is going to be class leading as far as outright performance like this goes. Could the Ranger outsell the Tacoma? 🤔 If Ford can make enough of them recall-free - maybe.
Same goes for the tacoma hybrid engine with 465 foot pounds of torque and 326 hp. Can't wait to see the hybrid more next month.

A lot of unsprung weight at the corners.

Yeah, the bracket doesn't make much sense. Run em side by side for a true comparison. I loved seeing the R/T, had an old Durango R/T.
That Ridgeline did a lot better than I would have thought.

In 3 runs the Ranger runs above 16.5 every tiime except when running the Colorado. Some how they run 1/2 a second faster and coincidentally Andre falls asleep at the lline. If I was betting at a track I'd just take Roman every time almost regardless of what they're driving.

Lol yeah. That chevy should have dusted the ranger.
@@geopioneergsxr5357
I pointed this out too. They didn't even acknowledge that the Ranger could never reproduce that run again and the Ranger did catch the Colorado already coming off a run so it was already at a disadvantage. Plus compare the weight of the wheel/tire combos between the Ranger and Colorado. They really should be doing 3 runs and not one to average them to account for anomalies.

Great video! Looking forward to round two. I wonder how my Maverick, with the eco boost engine, would have done in this test.
The newer direct injected Nissan V6s are severely underrated in horsepower. We had a Pathfinder with the 3.5 Liter version this Frontier 3.8 and it was an absolute screamer "on the cams". That 310 hp rating on the Frontier is a worst case scenario on crappy octane gas on a hot day. Probably more like 325 after a good break in. Admittedly, the Pathfinder was awful with the CVT but that engine tried its heart out. If Nissan wanted to throw down they could put the GT-R engine in the Frontier.
Fun video. So round one goes to the Ranger. Can't wait for the rest of the competition. Also later this yeas it will be nice to how the 2.7 TT Ranger does along with the Raptor? Lots more power on tap.
Great job TFL crew.
Tacoma is quite disappointing. Probably not as much as the Tundra, but close.
It's disappointing all around. Slower than the Ford, bad payload, bad towing, worst legroom and highest priced. Made in Mexico vs made in USA. But they fixed the seating position 😂
They're both a big disappointment to me at least. They could've been much better or at least keep the high reliability they used to have. I'm a Toyota fan so it's sad to see this

The 2.7 Ranger is going to be a monster.
Not necessarily... The v6 power curve is worse than that of a I4 or a V8 meaning a lot more has to go into the engine for it to compete.
@@bladeftw6378 I'm confused. The 2.7 V6 has twin turbos and makes more torque down low than many V8s.
@@kennetho5393 well that is the point of turbos, they have to put twin turbos on there for that purpose... But still the I4 is beating the 2.7 eco boost they are planning on putting in the ranger. We'll certainly find out ourselves how well it tows with it weighing right at 6,000 lbs with the trailer boat and gear. His 2023 Ranger is 7500 lbs and his truck's door sticker says it has a 1443 lb payload capacity so we're good on both of those. Andre was slow off the line, but it seems that despite the power/tq rating of the L3B I never really hear anyone comment about the new Colorado being "fast". "Torquey", maybe.
L3B and 2.7 Ecoboost are similarly rated and supposed to be very similar on stock 87 dyno, so i guess we'll find out in a couple months.
It’s like Roman said, “Ford is the Porsche of pickups”
The 2.7 EB is going a pull of Greyhound or 2 on the HO Colorado
Going by the data from TFL, the Colorado weighs about 500 lbs more than the fifth and new sixth gen Ranger. That alone can offset any power advantage, not to mention Ranger has a little lower rear axle ratio (3.73 vs 3.43 in the GM). Gearing in the 10 speed is similar to the GM 8 speed with a smaller step around 3rd/4th gear in the 10A and an extra OD. Good job Ford in keeping the base Ranger light and plenty quick. The new 2.7 V6 Ranger is probably going to weigh about 150-200 lbs more than base and I'm guessing with a 3.55 axle instead, which will be interesting to see it take on the Colorado.
@@kennetho5393 GM always gear their trucks like cars. It drives me nuts....my truck is constantly shifting and with the 6.0 I should have enough torque to go up a hill without shifting.
