Sorry. Having been in the tire biz for 27 years, I would NOT recommend going from a LR C to a LR E. It still only has THREE sidewall plies. They're beefier, but the reasoning for it is to hold more air pressure and carry more weight. On the road, you can't use that carrying capacity as it will exceed the suspension capacity. Also, running the LR E at lower air pressures will create more sidewall heat. And being heavier, the LR E will lower your gas mileage.

We had a bad head wind for a bunch of the time and I did see 13.6 for a few hundred miles driving at 68mph with no head wind.
So one thing I’ve spotted across various reviews of the TRD Pro…and it’s really only obvious if the driver has the cluster setup to show the iForce Turbo and iForce MAX digital gauges. Basically, the hybrid battery only holds enough charge to assist in one major acceleration event…evident by the blue dial indicator. If another full throttle acceleration is conducted immediately after, or say you are repeatedly accelerating through corners on a highway…there won’t be enough charge in the battery to continue providing hybrid assist…and if you look closely, you’ll see the blue MAX gauge stays flat. The iForce turbo gauge will show boost…but you truly need both systems to get maximum power. Otherwise is just the standard output of the 2.4 T24A. SO…I think they did the 1/4 mile on a depleted hybrid battery, because the acceleration time was similar to the GM 2.7T. And even though the 2.7T makes more power and torque than the 2.4…the Tacoma has remarkably low driveline power loss with low rpm torque, and basically is equally as quick as a Colorado 2.7T. I’ve seen these results in 0-60 comparisons. So the Hybrid Max system is basically only good for a quick thrill before needing to be regeneratively recharged !!

I’m just going with ZR2… NOT THE BISEON. Only 49k which makes it move faster. And if I wanna go as fast as the raptor, I’ll put in bigger turbos, tune it up a little bit, and straight pipe it to sound better. ZR2 not Bison is hands down better bang for your buck. Getting heated AND cooling seats, vents in the back, physical buttons, in my opinion looks better. For the raptor your spending 10k more MSP probably 15k after markups just for the power train

@@erikturner8687 it’s set to auto, and you can still use your high beams. So technically it’s not a big deal… but the Raptor has too much tech on there screen to where if that screen doesn’t come on your can’t make it hotter or cooler in the truck or turn on defrost
@Morg_-wu1kk Good luck with your ZR2, after the upgraded turbos and tune you will be near the price of the Raptor and stuck with a way inferior suspension and transmission.
Results line up. The highest horsepower pulled the hardest at the top end. TRD pro as I suspected, is basically just the 4 cylinder after you've exited the low end part of the power curve where the torque-fill from the hybrid motor occurs

Long before reviews like this came. I told my son who wanted the new Tacoma to go for Ranger Raptor. Better bang for the buck and seem to have the edge in most stuff. And the areas it gives up to others can be easily fixed with bigger tires and slight lift. Off-course, he argued about reliability. But he doesn’t realize this Tacoma is all new. And has turbo engine, different transmission etc. So you can’t really go by the reliability of last version.

Love the Ranger Raptor. Packaging, power, suspension…just a great all around product from Ford. As a F150 Raptor owner, maybe I should get a baby Raptor too.. 🤔
The TRD is like the vegan version of an offroad truck. Hats off to the Ford Performance Team on building a great midsize capable truck. Note: Recommending going to an E load tires isn’t a good idea. The C rated BFG is Percocet for the truck being a lighter weight and the suspension is tuned with that sidewall. The C rated tire is better with snow traction and has better grip offroad.
The C rated tire is better in snow at the correct air pressure. People putting 10 ply (E range) tires on these can't run the same air pressure. And I agree that airing down a 6 ply (C range) tire does less damage to the sidewall plies.
Great Video drove all 3 and I too like the Ranger Raptor the other too just gutless 4's. Loved the Raptor so much just bought one and agree the A/C in the Ford is the best. We get 110+ heat in the summer here and the A/C needs to be great. Love my Raptor Ford did great on this truck and I even got mine at MSRP just have to look around.
From day one, I knew those low-hung sidesteps were a poor decision by Ford. They will be the first thing I remove and replace with frame-hugging rock sliders.
they are only there to keep rocks from hitting the fenders when off roading at high speeds. Since most Raptor owners prefer high speed trails over rock crawling ford decided to add it for that reason.

Very fun video. I like the side by side comparison. From day one I been saying that the Bison needed different gear ratio for the oversize tires. They are also heavy. We can see how slow like a slug it is.
Sand mode was the mode for use in the tacoma for this. It changes the shift timing. The Q3 fox shocks in taco needed to be adjusted and the seats were probably not adjusted for your weight and maybe not set on in off road mode.
It would be fun to see a "budget option" compete. The Frontier Pro-4X can be had for $36-$37k. You could buy a RZR XP side by side as well and still have cash left over for gas.
And you would still have a worst truck compared to these actual off road trucks. You are missing the point that these are capable off road trucks and the Nissan isn't.
Great review. I don't know why people have to be sexist. Every truck review has guys yelling the whole time. She shows some enthusiasm for the comparison and guys are saying she's yelling and can't listen. People need to check themselves and leave their sexism at the door. This was an excellent review. Keep up the good work.
So you pointed out that the "35" inch tires on the Bison are really only 34.4 inches. Go look up the specs of most 35-inch tires. They are all below 35 inches in reality. The BFG KO3 in 35x12.5R17 is actually only 34.5... that's normal, industry wide. Only a very small minority of tires actually come close to being true to size. Nitto is one of the few that come close, but not quite advertised size.
You are incorrect on a couple of things with the Raptor… it’s not a 3.0 L V6… it’s a 405 hp twin turbo 3.0 L V6 and that makes a big difference. Also the side steps are also built in rock sliders.
The ZR2 also has a launch mode you can access when you go into the right mode and turn off all the things. I have yet to see anyone use it yet and have t tried it in m4 24 ZR2. Would like to see it in action
Baja mode on Colorado doesn't put it in 4Wheel Drive. You must still select it. Also, it turns off/reduces traction control. In a drag race on lose dirt may not be good choice.
Overall, the Tacoma is superior in every way. Better built, higher quality product, longer lasting. Too high energy presentation to boot. Calm tf down.

ZR2 Bison by a mile...not even close. The ZR2 should have been used in this comparison and that's even better! The only thing the Ranger Raptor is better is the powertrain that Ford went with. GM should have went with a V6 turbo but the 2.7 turbo they use is not bad.The ZR2 is the best value at around $52k loaded. The best all arounder as well. The ZR2 Bison should have been a small block V8 with a 10 speed automatic to keep it different than the ZR2 and justify it's $65k price tag.
Why is it so hard to find someone who isnt clearly biased and actually knows what they are talking about for a truck video. If you cant even setup for a drag race then I'm definitely not interested in anything else you have to say.
All three are great at the 1/4 mile, out in the middle of now where is my concern and CV Axle compatibility and other components are always the issue. Fuel consumption is a huge issue for miles a head for a day with trucks loaded 600 pounds or more 2000+ off road miles that's a test. A bigger engine does you no good if it just sucks gas on the trail.
To be fair, the ZR2 Bison has 35" tires, I would assume that it would've beaten the TRD Pro (probably not by much, though) if it were the standard ZR2 with the 33" tires, like the ones on the TRD Pro and the Raptor (I believe).
I've had Tacoma's my entire adult life and happen to work for the company so a little biased. Love how the Tacoma looks vs the previous gen but the ZR2 looks the best imo from an aggressive stance standpoint. I'm not a fan of how ford trucks look... the raptor is obviously gonna flex the power muscle but unless it was gifted to me I don't think I'll ever buy a ford for various reasons. Love the taco, I do wish, however, the iso seats were an option and not standard. I'll be anxious to judge them for myself when the truck arrives but, the definitely seem gimmicky. Hoping that this gen taco keeps its reliability and durability like previous models/gens. I'm most excited about the powertrain in the new taco vs the current gen. no more hunting for gears!

"Reliability" isnt a factor anymore considering Toyotas recent engine failures and axel snapping on their products. TFLs exact same spec of this Tacoma broke on an off-road trail.
@naveenthemachine let them come. Toyota has the most cancerous fanbase on the planet. They think their cars are God's gift to man. ANY video about a car, Toyota or not, will have them in the comments bragging about how superior they are. You could be comparing an 89 camry to a 25 audi and they'd still claim the Toyota is better because it's "more reliable".
I've been wanting a new Taco but now considering a new Colorado/Canyon because of the price differences. The only thing holding me back so far are the problems I'm seeing current owners having to deal with on the Colorado forums. I know it's the popular thing to hate on Toyota these days but if you spend 5 minutes on the Colo/Canyon forums you'll see GM's reliability is still nothing to write home about. Dented roofs, electrical issues, and yes engine and transmission problems too. But spotlight's on Toyota I guess. Also out of 80k+ new Tacos sold so far it's not unreasonable that you'll see a number of failures, especially with a new product launch.
The TFL failure has not occurred again to my knowledge. The new Taco's transmission is a bigger concern. It overheats easily and several complete failures have been reported.
I have the GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Bison and it's been flawless. It had to go back to the dealer for a TPMS issue but it was fixed. The engine is great.

ZR2 was in 2WD on the quarter mile... not saying it's going to be faster due to the lift and bigger tires.. but still.. your job is comparing trucks.. put them all in 4WD
You should realize that Colorado has 35 inch tires against 33 inch tires so you should make it fair before putting the truck down 😊
I don’t think the Ranger Raptor needs to change anything. It’s a Baja vehicle first and a rock crawler second. If you start putting a lift kit and bigger tires you’re starting to take away its strengths.
Since most Raptor owners prefer high speed trails over rock crawling ford decided to add those rails and make them steps as well. nothing needs to change about that truck
@@rowdyjoshy1798 And just like the F150 variant, those steps are intended to prevent rocks from flying up and damaging the paint. This is always overlooked by every reviewer
This might be one of the most annoying reviews I've ever seen. Can we spend a few minutes talking like a normal adult who is actually buying these trucks?
I’m just going with ZR2… NOT THE BISEON. Only 49k which makes it move faster. And if I wanna go as fast as the raptor, I’ll put in bigger turbos, tune it up a little bit, and straight pipe it to sound better. ZR2 not Bison is hands down better bang for your buck. Getting heated AND cooling seats, vents in the back, physical buttons, in my opinion looks better. For the raptor your spending 10k more MSP probably 15k after markups just for the power train
Hopefully, that screen doesn’t fail in that Chebby like the Equinox junk, you’d be driving without lights at night. But at least your ass won’t be sweaty….
@@erikturner8687 it’s set to auto, and you can still use your high beams. So technically it’s not a big deal… but the Raptor has too much tech on there screen to where if that screen doesn’t come on your can’t make it hotter or cooler in the truck or turn on defrost
@Morg_-wu1kk
Good luck with your ZR2, after the upgraded turbos and tune you will be near the price of the Raptor and stuck with a way inferior suspension and transmission.
And your still stuck with a crappy 4 banger. Otherwise it's the poor mans champion !!
Yeah, but the taco and raptor have port and direct injection. Zr2 doesn’t. Good luck with the carbon buildup
Results line up. The highest horsepower pulled the hardest at the top end. TRD pro as I suspected, is basically just the 4 cylinder after you've exited the low end part of the power curve where the torque-fill from the hybrid motor occurs
The Bison is getting retuned to produce more hp and torque for 2025. Nobody talks about the dealer markups on the Raptor.
Is that a fact?
FORD Just realized a retune for the Ranger and Bronco Raptor, adding 455hp and 500 ish torque.

It really does have launch control? Or just the brake boost
I’m a Ford man but how does 1/4 mile time and speed equate at all to off road? I can’t see climbing a mountain at 88mph.
If it's a Raptor, it's a desert runner.
Rock crawling is the RR weakest link. That’s fine with me, as I don’t plan on doing any of that. I will drag race you Chevy or Taco on pavement, dirt or mud🤠
@@WeldonGage Weak link though, only for hard core crawling. With F&R lockers, it'll go anywhere it's clearance will allow. Plus she complained about lock up speed, when I've heard many reviewers PRAISE how quick Ford's lockers work !!
Love the Ranger Raptor. Packaging, power, suspension…just a great all around product from Ford. As a F150 Raptor owner, maybe I should get a baby Raptor too.. 🤔
Awewome Baby Raptor❤
Shocker a ford guys likes the ford.... blah blah blah
@@rowdyjoshy1798 I understand, but those sidesteps should have been removed for the test-no one would seriously consider wheeling with them still attached.
@@chaleowin7732 Realistically, most owners will never do this unless they built their rig for dedicated rock crawling/overland use.

Blah blah blah... anyone who says taco should be kicked in the balls!
It would be fun to see a "budget option" compete. The Frontier Pro-4X can be had for $36-$37k.
You could buy a RZR XP side by side as well and still have cash left over for gas.

@@backnu AND it has the tried and true V6!!
Because it's not in the same league. It's more a off-road appearance package like the Z71 and FX4. Lol

Great review. I don't know why people have to be sexist. Every truck review has guys yelling the whole time. Keep up the good work.
Looks like you're getting yelled at by grandma that needs a spotter for driving over some pebbles
The pro also has pretend 33’s 32.6 🤷🏻♂️
You are incorrect on a couple of things with the Raptor… it’s not a 3.0 L V6… it’s a 405 hp twin turbo 3.0 L V6 and that makes a big difference. Also the side steps are also built in rock sliders.
I think your review is awesome!!! Unlike the other person I wanted more
Zr2 looks soo badass , 16 mpg highway and city doesn't make anysense , getting almost same mpg as f150 raptor R which have 700 hp
The ZR2 also has a launch mode you can access when you go into the right mode and turn off all the things. I have yet to see anyone use it yet and have t tried it in m4 24 ZR2. Would like to see it in action
Regular ZR2 is a much better comparison, not the AEV. $48k, can probably get $3-5k off these days. By far the best value of the bunch.
Exactly. No comparison at that price, and the ZR2 is the best looking of the 3 by far IMO.
The keyfob comment seems insignificant but for a truck 80 000$+taxes cad its really appreciated the zr2 bison is a beast ! nice video btw
The raptor is the clear choice. Still have mild regret not getting one, instead ordered an M240i…
I think I might rather have an m240 those things are sick
Ranger, best AC, most comfy seats, more power, better suspension on the fast stuff, slightly more interior room and in rear seat. Lastly, less cost.
Baja mode on Colorado doesn't put it in 4Wheel Drive. You must still select it. Also, it turns off/reduces traction control. In a drag race on lose dirt may not be good choice.
My Ranger Raptor already threw a check engine light for a bad trans fluid pump. The truck has around 1700miles on it
The ranger is the fastest but the Colorado is the best offroad and overall.
Great stuff, thanks Emma and team!
Ill never understand why drag racing is a measure for a truck. Ive owned alot of trucks, and I've had exactly ZERO drag races.
I agree! Not sure why drag racing an off road vehicle is so important! Slow and steady wins the race.
@davewilson8308 Kinda like using rock crawling ability to test a Porshe and Corvette.
Thank You. This answered all my questions.
Overall, the Tacoma is superior in every way. Better built, higher quality product, longer lasting. Too high energy presentation to boot. Calm tf down.
Ranger Raptor needs cooled seats and a larger fuel tank! Only thing stopping me from purchasing one.

If you want all around offroad capability the ZR2 is the way to go. If you want to race around on dirt the Raptor has it.
The Frontier Pro-4X somehow is massively slept on and very much missed for this video.
Pro4x would have been last in every category. Until nissan updates that old powertrain and chassis it will always be last
@@beexiong2995 Frontier hasn't been last at everything unless 0-60 times is that important to a buyer. The powertrain has been in production since 2021, and the chassis was never a problem.
The bison looks the best for sure.
Um 4wd drag in yota and ford but chevy in 2wd fair?
Why is it so hard to find someone who isnt clearly biased and actually knows what they are talking about for a truck video. If you cant even setup for a drag race then I'm definitely not interested in anything else you have to say.
All three are great at the 1/4 mile, out in the middle of now where is my concern and CV Axle compatibility and other components are always the issue. Fuel consumption
is a huge issue for miles a head for a day with trucks loaded 600 pounds or more 2000+ off road miles that's a test. A bigger engine does you no good if it just sucks gas
on the trail.
To be fair, the ZR2 Bison has 35" tires, I would assume that it would've beaten the TRD Pro (probably not by much, though) if it were the standard ZR2 with the 33" tires, like the ones on the TRD Pro and the Raptor (I believe).
35in tires on the ZR2 Bison + the extra weight of the additional armor really hurt it’s acceleration, a standard ZR2 would’ve compared more favorably
Give me the Chevy 1st, the Raptor 2nd and the Tacoma 8th. Toyota needs to keep working on there trucks!
Yeah it was expected that the Raptor wins the desert battle. You were going dramatically faster and yet it was visibly smoother than the other trucks.

"Reliability" isnt a factor anymore considering Toyotas recent engine failures and axel snapping on their products. TFLs exact same spec of this Tacoma broke on an off-road trail.
@@dtay8913 agreed. But be careful as you’ll trigger the blind Toyota grandpas who are living in the past 🤣
@naveenthemachine let them come. Toyota has the most cancerous fanbase on the planet. They think their cars are God's gift to man.
