I love the Ridgeline (I own one since 2020) but Honda missed an amazing opportunity by not giving the Ridgeline Trailsport more ground clearance. Mind boggling..
They've missed a lot of opportunities since the start. The Ridgeline has always been a great idea but Honda kept flubbing too many details for it to take off. The success of the Maverick has shown that the fact that it's not a "real" truck, as so many claim, was never the problem. Hopefully Honda has learned a lesson.
Nah it was lazy. They are getting ready for a redesign and didn’t want to waste resources doing any real sort of modification on an outgoing model. It’s a waste of money to get a trailsport.
I got a 2024 sport. Love it. It’s a hella good truck.
Gotta a better lease deal by a mile on ridgeline over maverick. And the payload of tremor is significantly lower with that clutch pack and upgraded suspension
traxda 2" lift is what I put on my 2020...best value imho (can go higher..but $$$). Between kit and install, about 1,000....just an option to adjust a shortcoming
HRG has quite a few lift options for the Ridgeline (both generations) and skid plates.
No low gear, no locker = not really an off-roader!!! 🤦🏻
Did anyone notice how easily he crawled the Honda up the last part of "left hook" after he put it into sand mode? IVTM4 in "Sand" is capable of sending something like 75 to 90% of engine torque to the rear wheel with traction. Even with it's pathetic clearance and approach angle, and lack of under body protection, the Honda still managed to crawl up that left hook. I am surprised and amazed. I have seen some mighty 4X4s struggle on that same section. With many of them cutting power at the worst time. Man Honda, give us recovery points, 2 more inches of clearance and a few skid plates, and what a comfy off roader you could offer!
Apparently it's underbody protection was sufficient : ) The Maverick on the other hand, with its increased clearance still managed to tear it's poor (fake) undercarriage protection near off.
@@69Harveyb1 You make a good point, and I did notice that. However, the Ford tore some fabric which was there for what? Sound deadening? The RL apparently had no fabric at the same place, or it would have been torn completely off, since it would have been maybe 2" lower? As it is, I guess the Honda just skidded along on something metallic, but in this soft mud not enough to damage anything? Or, perhaps at that particular spot, the Honda was tucked up high enough to not make enough contact with that obstacle to damage anything? Or, perhaps the Honda was not in exactly the same spot, and simply did not even go over that rock? Who knows? But, I do know that the Honda( I own a non-Trailridge with the same specs) is too low, does not have enough under body protection, and the approach and other angles are too low for comfort. Hence my amazement that the Honda made it up without major damage, or made it at all. And I am not surprised that the Maverick, with much better off road specs, had an easy time of it. ........... I will say this for the Honda, which I did not previously realize: They did add that small metal skid plate under the oil pan. At least that is something, and a very important something. Since I have known of more than one RL that has torn a hole in that oil pan while trying to off road with such low clearance. .......... I have owned a RL continuously since 2008 ( one 08 and one 21), and I love them overall. They are my fav vehicle that I have ever used in 8" or less of snow and ice. They have a great AWD system, one of the best. But with some minor changes I would be way less nervous taking one on some trails. So close, Honda! Maybe the 2025s? Hurry Honda, I am getting real old!
You can add skid plates you can do a slight lift on it
This might be one of the best reviews on RUclips because you went far above and beyond from what anyone else would have done with these trucks. Most would look like a test drive in their review. Excellent job Steve.
Appreciate that
@@TruckKing damn big boy keeps dragging his belly lol.
Loved the review too, I was just looking for these two trucks to be compared. I agree 100% with your opinions and the review was very interesting to watch.
Great comparison. Nice to see the lil maverick in action. It has more capability than I thought. TK FTW!!
Fun watch of the Ridgeline Vs. Maverick in less than pristine conditions. I would NEVER get my RL in a situation like this even just for comparison/evaluation. I live off road (dirt-gravel road) and that's enough for me. My 2023 RTL-E is a super nice 'truck' and it works for me which is why I bought it.
Love the variety of trucks being tested on the channel. Anyone can own a truck!
As Ginger Billy would say, “TRUCK GANG!”
The Ridgeline has a full box frame rail structure. The body is welded to that structure rather than bolted on. So it's sort-of a hybrid of body on frame and uni-body. Not enough people talk about this.
That’s not unique, take a look under a Maverick, even the old Chevy Astro van. Unibody is still considered one integrated piece.
Astros were body on frame @@ProjectFairmont
@lockandloadlikehell
Nope. They are unibody with a front subframe. I got fooled by that one too. I remember many years ago when I crawled under my buddies to take a look at something and realizing it was a unibody! It was actually a lot better setup than a full frame, but I don't think GM advertised it or made it widely known because of public perception about durability and strength back in the 80s and 90s...
@@lockandloadlikehell afraid not. Nope.
@@turbodieseldumptruckThe Astro van does not have a true unibody platform, but it's also not a true ladder-type platform like the Express van has. I've had both. The Astro has a rear hybrid ladder-type support system that is welded directly to the underbody in order to drop overall build height and minimize cost. It still uses all the mounting techniques of a typical ladder or box-frame type platform.
Had a first gen Ridgeline and that vehicle was fantastic. Day in and day out hauling equipment on a trailer, hot and humid summers with freezing ice and snow in the Great Lakes, etc…that ridgeline did a fantastic job. Nice to see the ridgeline still does a solid job here
I'm a Ridgeline convert. 2023 RTL-E. It's a fantastic truck.
Great video. I own a 2024 Tremor and this made me feel good! Thank you.
This was such a terrific comparison. Commentary was well done, you know your facts! I’ve watched countless videos just because I enjoy it and you covered so many details with reasonable takes on every aspect. The mudding you did was the most I’d ever consider doing and glad to see they can handle them. I have a 2021 and added on road AT tires, a lift and skid plates. It is now a true Trailsport+. Keep up the good work. Extremely impressed with the quality of this video compared to many other Ridgeline videos I’ve watched. Cheers!!
Curious, what lift kit did you decide to add to your truck?
@@SEOwithErik Truxxx front 1.5" and later traxda rear 0.5 since traxda is split spacer made it easy
Exactly the comparison I’ve been searching for! Thank you.
Great review Steve, as a 2023 Ridgeline RTL owner I’ve been waiting for this review, living in the midwest I can attest that the IVTM-4 AWD system is fantastic in the snow thats with stock tires. The Ridgeline is the perfect vehicle for me because my Ridgeline will NEVER see MOAB, but does all the truck things I need it to do. I even tow a small teardrop camper with no problem, thanks for the review
Even more impressive for the maverick is the fact it did the course after the Honda had tore it up.
The comparison I didn't know I needed. Nicely done.
The Ridgeline is a great midsize truck that's reliable and great for many things but not for off road in muddy roads. It's great to have awd and for certain dirt roads but i would not buy if you constantly need to rely on it for off roading.
Its AWD actually makes it better for most off-reading situations than competitor’s 4WD, given the right tires and an aftermarket lift kit. It is unsuited for hardcore rock crawling and similar extremes due to its non-locking differential, low crawl ratio, and very limited ability to increase tire diameter, and from the factory has worst-in-class ground clearance/approach/departure angles, It also lacks the ability to mount a winch without extensive custom modifications, and there is exactly one aftermarket tow hook solution which requires cutting slots in the lower front bumper. But the basic vehicle itself, off pavement up to and including moderate conditions, more than holds its own.
Man, the current, old Ridgeline is so good, I absolutely cannot wait for the next Gen on the Pilot platform !! Cmon Honda!!
Honda made a great vehicle but they failed on both models with the price and styling. If they went with more agressive styling it would sell. I think the maverick looks good and low price. It is louder inside and suspension isn't as good. Really a cheap compact(Maverick) vs trying too be a luxury truck (ridge). Cheaper option will always sell better. Ridge will definitely outlast the Maverick.. Honda reliability:)
Love your unbiased videos. Just the facts and your honest opinions. Thank you
Never considered a RL before, but bought one a few weeks ago. Love it, but it 100% needs a lift, even the measly 1" lift the Pilot got would be acceptable, and regardless of model needs proper recovery points.
I'm really considering a RL if I'm honest with myself this is all the truck I need. I love the fact that it doesn't have a Turbo and rather has a V6 NA which equals reliability. And also, I'm not sure if I would be comfortable rock climbing with my brand new 60K off-road truck/SUV so who am I kidding. If I really want to go off-roading I would just buy an used 2010 Jeep Wrangler and tow it with my super comfortable Ridgeline truck.
I'm wondering if mileage is a concern. The 3.5 Honda V6 can do great in a sedan, but my Odyssey needed all the wind help it could get
traxda 2" lift is what i put on my 2022... it's perfect. went with 1" larger tiers, and I have 10" clear under the truck...
The Ridgeline really positively surprised me. I was not expecting it would be able to "keep up" with the Maverick Tremor. Great review, as always!
Kept up, yes with the Maverick slightly ahead. Not that it really matters, because it doesn't!
With a running start , that the Honda didn't get ! @@thebaldwonder421
I bought a Ridgeline last week and I love it. I'm not looking to go offroad and wanted something that can handle the winter snow. It's super comfy on a long drive and you can hyper mile it around 29mpg on the highway.
Thanks Steve for this video and comparison!!
Honestly, a great video with real-world comparison. These trucks basically sit at 3/4 capacity of a full 4x4. But for the majority of buyers, what an attractive package the Maverick offers. Respect to the Ridgeline as well.
Best truck channel on the internet! Love your videos. I think it might be time to upgrade from my Ecosport 🤣
It was time to upgrade that the day after you bought it.

I have that exact Maverick and live in the US. Trail control is a game changer and the Tremor will go farther down a trail and do more on said trail than you think. I love my little off road truck. Totally agree with the felt crap on the underside between the tires. Being the Tremor version it definitely should come with the aftermarket skid plates there that I added from the factory. Great video.
I think that would’ve reduced the payload so majorly that they didn’t want that official payload stickered on their vehicle. Just my hunch
I have torn through two of those felt panels on my FX4.
Where did you find aftermarket skids for your Tremor?
@@TheModerateMillenial Doubtful. The ones I am adding weigh 80 pounds. I would much prefer 80 pounds in payload less which would still give me over 1100 pounds of payload than a damaged fuel line or whatever else is underneath the felt crap.
The Maverick floor length is 54 inches, not 48 inches.
As anyone will say, 6 additional inches is pretty good.
So many people are poorly informed about the Maverick. I'm glad you brought that up.
That's what she said 😂
Like how the course was a challenge and not just an easy trail. Owning a Ridgeline I love watching video’s like this! I like the Maverick as well but being a Honda fan I picked the Ridgeline.
Maverick all day for the price…nice job Ford. BTW the stealerships ADM is a bunch of BS
really nicely done. I appreciate when you sit in the back seat, and especially a comparison like this. I have no need for off road worthiness, that being said I love the Ridgeline packaging but couldn't stand the 23 and below lacking a center console.... could not stand the pull down arms. I bought a 23 Maverick Hybrid in November and when it came down to it the interior room was great for the sizing and like you showed not a huge difference in the back seat, but the big winner for me was the hybrid powertrain. I am regularly getting over 40 MPG on a tank. That being said had the Ridgeline had a hybrid it would have been a harder decision.
Just bought a Trailsport. I will never take it off road after watching this!
I am a Ridgeline owner. I say the Maverick is great as a weekend work truck but not a family daily driver. Maverick is priced to be the value truck. Ridgeline is getting very expensive.
It's all relative. I like the Ridgeline but for my family of five it still wasn't big enough. Maverick interior is nearly as large for four, but not really wide enough for five. At 6'3" I find the front seats of Maverick quite a bit more comfortable than the Ridgeline. But neither is in the cards until the the oldest is out of the house.
I sat in the back of a Lariat a couple weekends ago. Plenty of room for an average adult back there so I think it could work just fine for many families.
I've had Tacoma's, Frontier's and now a new Ranger. The Ranger has more bells and whistles but the down side is in 30k miles I have been in the shop on average once every two months. My next "truck" is the Ridgeline as I don't off-road at all and it does everything else to meet my needs. Top it off it's a Honda SE we just expect reliability.
@@retirednavy1 Thank you for your summary.
@@retirednavy1 I love the Ridgeline, but it really is an SUV with a bed. Much better daily driver than most trucks. They are smooth, quiet, and great all around. Suspension is tigher but not rough like most trucks with tow packages. Biggest issue is price, they are almost the same price as a full size truck after discounts. Ridgeline you play close to sticker, but a Silverado I get $10k off sticker. Silverado can tow and better tech. But I prefer the ridgeline daily for city driving.
The Maverick just seems like a good peoples truck. It does just enough at the right price.
I have a Maverick hybrid and Ridgeline... I was Gaga goo goo for the Maverick hype train, but with 25,000 mi on it it really is starting to feel cheap... I love the gas mileage and it's a decent riding car...
But for real for real Gaga goo goo about the Ridgeline... It drives like a Cadillac handles like a Subaru. That torque vectoring all wheel drive makes my heart sing every time I turn the steering wheel and the ride is just so good it's like being on vacation. They both have sucky infotainment systems but the Ridgeline is so much better.
And the icing on the cake is that trunk bed storage system and having a 6-foot bed... That trunk in bed system with the swinging tailgate is the coolest thing I have ever experienced. I don't think I could ever live without it
Love the vids. You and tfl are the only channels that break stuff which means you test it properly lmao. I know you worked there too
One thing I’ve noticed is both Ridgeline and Maverick owners really seem to love their trucks. For me, I think the Ridgeline is worth the price to get the extra capability and v6 linear power and long-term reliability.
Hondas built in Alabama don't have the famous Honda reliability. Just read about the RL's ongoing issues with water leakage inside the cabin due to poor manufacturing at the AL factory.
@@IMP3TIGO I have never heard of this. I have a 2017 Ridgeline Touring and it has been just as reliable as any Honda I have owned. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it and zero repairs of any kind. My only expense in 7 years has been oil changes and new tires. And yes, it was made in Alabama in September of 2016...an absolutely wonderful vehicle and my second Ridgeline.
@@IMP3TIGO Lies zero evidence to back that up. Ive never had an issue with any of my Honda suvs or cars.
Have those exact Falken Wildpeaks on the wife's Bronco Badlands with steely wheels and optional tires.
They are a fantastic tire for a daily driver in western Canada, especially in winter.
Mud....yeah but i sure wouldn't wanna go deep.
The Bronco Sport and Maverick off road.....pretty close.
The odds of many using either the Ridgeline or Maverick for serious off road is slim.
We've managed alot of snow, some mud....about all these trucks will ever see.
I just subscribed to your channel, your reviews and comparisons are real world and you really do a fantastic job of a fair comparison. I will be watching your videos going forward. Nice job keep up the good work Sir.
Thanks and welcome
Excellent review and episode as always!!! 😁
4:20 Santa Cruz has one. Nice bonus storage. Water tight with a water drain very cool.
It always surprises me how much mud and gnarly stuff these vehicles can drive through. It was clear the additional momentum given to the Maverick gave it an advantage on the hill climb. Regardless both trucks would get up the cottage laneway. Good job, you drive these trucks through worst conditions than most people do with their Ford F150 raptors.
Yeah that was not even close to comparable runs between the two :/
Yes he gave a little more momentum, but you forget because the honda before tore up the track makes it harder to get through
@@seruresto1386 This video is silly to begin with. 99% of owners of both these will never be driven on anything that a small sedan cannot do. Smooth dirt roads etc. No one is taking these things truly off road. Off road packages in this segment is cosmedic. I doubt that many full size trucks ever leave the pavement except to do an illegal u-turn in the median.
Excellent review. I love my 23 Ridgeline RTL E. Does everything I need it to do while being a very comfortable commuter.
Appreciate you guys! You are doing great reviews ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍
Thanks for having an open mind to any vehicle, and explaining why Jeeps used to be able to do ANYTHING (small, narrow, and light)! New subscriber here, and was afraid your channel was going to be another GO BIG or GO HOME! channel, but its not at all. Looking forward to more. PS - Im old, and our dealership used to carry tons of 4-cylinder, soft top, no back seat Jeeps (this was the YJ days) with no air, no big stereo, sometimes no carpet. Brand new they were just over $11,000. We took them right out to the river bottoms and they would go anywhere.
Ridgeline is the better truck, but for my use case I would get a base model Maverick for under $30k. I don't need the capability of a real truck for towing or hauling, just a daily with a bed to haul my mountain bikes to the trail, trips to the beach and then just hose it down afterwards. Smaller size also mean easier to navigate and park for normal daily stuff like going to work, errand runs, grocery trips etc.
Wow I love the ramp to really see what’s going on under these trucks!
Great Mash-up. Good Work!
Fantastic video. I own a Ridgeline for exactly all the reasons you showed. It's a city, commuting, truck. It's not for hauling a boat, going bouldering, or driving off-road all the time; but it does those okay while being a fantastic on-road truck with great comfort. The Mavrick seems like a perfect compliment; something that's a little lower cost, a little less on the medium duty work; but a great option for people who want a budget truck that can do a little bit of everything or be a more serious off-road truck than the Honda. Great review; really great info and lots of good testing that we love to see.
First video I've seen of yours. Well done.
My father-law has an 08 Ridgeline with 300k miles still drives it everywhere. I have a 24 Maverick (company car) on order but I would pick the Ridgeline if I had a choice.
The Honda 3.5 is an INCREDIBLY reliable engine. I have a 16 Acura RDX with the 3.5 V-6 with 90k miles and other than basic maintenance……not a wrench has been put on it!!
Great video...always enjoy the content. I own a 24 Maverick Tremor and love it. I liked the look of the Tremor and capabilities but honestly liked the BAP features are barely more than BAP with better rims/tires/capabilities and 25:48 resale value.
Ford needs to figure out 4K towing and maybe a little more payload for the Tremor.
Ridgeline significantly bigger, nicer ride I'm sure but not same size class IMO. A mini-Honda truck would be interesting. Someone besides Ford and Hyundai will take a swing at mini-truck and I love the segment and more competition will make it better. Need to keep it affordable though.
Awesome video boss👍🏼
Those mavericks are so impressive 👏🏾
Awesome showdown!! Thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed!
The Ridgeline actually works better off-road when using Sand mode. Mud mode tries to move power around to find grip which pulls power away and slows momentum. Sand mode sends power to all four corners without reacting to wheel spin.
My wife has a 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E. It has a great leather interior and is roomy in both rows. She loves it. She has 49,000 miles. We have had four recalls, the fuel pump the most serious one. Mostly reliable. One night the engine fan would not off off, I had to disconnect fuse so battery did not get drained, and replaced it next day. Otherwise pretty good. Handles and rides so much better than my Tacoma. I do recommend the Ridgeline.
Trailsport also has softer springs n swaybars for more articulation shocks were upgraded for 2017 w more off road worthy components
I took my 2019 BE in an off road with stock all season tires back in spring of 2022. Road was somewhat icy with slicky snow. There were uphill trails. It did awesome in terms of handling but I was extra cautious on bulgy terrains due to lack of ground clearance. I wish at some point, Honda would make a Ridgeline with a Tacoma-like ground clearance and maybe I would trade my 2019 for that.
The Mav has no option of rear vents for passengers or pups. There is also no option of cooled front seats in the Mav. Both deal breakers for us in Florida. The Ridgeline is also much larger, so it may be a GMC Canyon AT4 for us just for the towing edge over the Ridgeline and a slight bit smaller for my garage. It checks all the boxes and to me looks much better than the Colorado and is worth the upcharge.
Great review, thanks.
This is a fantastic comparison. Both have front and rear independent suspension
great comparison. Great video
I'm interested in the Honda Ridgeline as in this review, but I'm also looking at the Ford Ranger FX4 as I thought that was a better competitor to the Ridgeline. But as always thank you for the great video.
Really good comparison. Just watch this vid and decide which one is right for you.
The Ridgeline is a great truck, but Honda has never done it justice. It needs a trim with 9-10” inches of ground clearance. Subaru did it with their Wilderness models 🙄. I shouldn’t have to take a brand new truck and pay to get a 3” lift kit installed that could be iffy.
It is odd that other trailsport trims do sit and inch or so higher but the ridgeline doesn't.
Wonderful review thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great Video, that Mav looks solid, really like it, not interested in RL but good comparison video.
Question, was there an after action on the Ridgeline? You mentioned a few times where you dragged the bottom on both vehicles. Was interested to see how the Honda did. Thank you.
Hola chicos!

Muy bueno su canal
Fantastic comparison
In fact, the rear differential of the Ridgeline is an electronically controlled SHAWD system that can proportion power side to side in a variable fashion up to 100% and can overdrive the outside wheel in a turn up to 15% in turns. The Maveric's rear differential is cude in comparison. That being said, its no rock hopping system. It manages wheel slip and traction superbly well but within its specific temperature limitations which are modest.
Just bought a 2024 Ridgeline Black Edition and I'm loving it so far. The comfort, versatility, capability and just overall functionality are unmatched by any other midsize truck. That said, I think the TrailSport trim is a missed opportunity. If Honda had at least offered a suspension lift and added some belly protection, I would have gone with the TrailSport instead of the Black Edition, but I decided on the BE for the extra features and I'll eventually customize it to add some off road capability. I traded my 2023 Frontier Pro4x which I never liked from day one...hated the bizarre transmission behavior and the infotainment system crashed at least once a week. I commute 2 hrs per day in my vehicle, so if I hate driving it, it's gotta go.
You pushed these trucks harder than anyone else so far! 👍 now my truck can stay clean lol
You're forgetting the Hyundai Santa Cruz has a bed-trunk as well! It's like 1/3 of the size, but its there, lockable, and has a drain!
29:35 We all hate the electro-nannies. Please Manufacturers, let us shut them off.
Great comparison of these two trucks. Really like the underside ramp views you provide. For me, the Maverick Tremor.
Love my 2022 Maverick 2.0 and dont need off road capability but wish it had a little more towing 👍
Excellent comparison!
Good video I have had two Ridgeline 19 and now a 24. You can add some aftermarket skid plates to the ridgeline that help, I did consider a Maverick Tremor, around here no discount and a wait for MSRP or pay $3000+ to get one quicker, with a few discounts it wasn’t much more than a Maverick Tremor. I think both are interesting contenders, tho I needed to be able to tow a mid-size Pontoon boat, so the Maverick did not work for me, also too short a bed for bikes with wheels still on. The Ridgeline in my light off road use (field, two track, service road) or deep snow has been fine, but yeah hardcore off roading it would not do well but then again I will just take my beater 98 Dodge Dakota off road and not care when it gets a dent or scratch 🤷♂️
Traded my 23 Colorado Z71 for a 23 Ridgeline RTL and love it. Yeah I gave up clearance and torque, but for 99.9% of my daily driving, the Honda smokes the Colorado- the trunk alone is worth the admission price.
Glad he mentioned the nature of the power delivery (linear vs turbo) because I hit that same phenomenon in Colorado vs Ridgeline towing the same trailer up a small curved hill - I would have to gas, gas, gas then BOOM in the Colorado vs a much more linear delivery with Ridgeline.
Bith great trucks but love my Honda. Honestly impressed by the Maverick as well, looks like a hoot for off-road!
Solid review. Did you mention the as configured weight for each vehicle?
Ridgeline with an extended cab and 6.5' bed would be much more interesting to me.
I have the extension gate that locks in. It isn't the same as having the bigger bed you're looking for but it's been enough for the few times I've used it.
I had a maverick as a rental for work. Normally we use our 4x4 silverados with all terrains for the type of terrine we traverse. That maverick went over everything with no drama, it was shocking. The contractor I was supervising was shocked when it just kept going and he kept getting stuck in his half ton lol.
Awesome test!
I have a 2023 Bronco Sport Badlands, which underneath is very very similar to the Maverick Tremor. Same engine, same rear clutch unit, just better suspension and a taller ride due to factory lift. It’s got just a bit more clearance and much better approach departure angles than the tremor but the powertrain is not the issue. It’s clearance. I went overlanding with a group last year and my Bronco was keeping up, and even doing BETTER than some Taco’s on 33’s that were getting stuck on a sharp incline. I never got stuck going up a sharp gatekeeper but most Tacomas I was running with did. However, that being said, because of its low ground clearance I completely taco’d my exhaust and had to limp back home because it was rubbing against my driveshaft. Had to wire it to the frame away from the driveshaft which was a pain to trail fix. To this day I swear by the Maverick Tremor/ Badlands capability, but its ground clearance is a very strong downside. Even with a lift it will never get close to the flexibility a body on frame vehicle can have with tire sizes and lift/ suspension upgrades. I’m actually currently looking at a Bronco 2 Door Wildtrak just because I want something that won’t make me get sweaty palms when presented with more challenging terrain that I can blow up my underside.
Great show
Nice to see a true comparison between the Ford Maverick and Honda Ridgeline. But you brought up road comparison on the Ridgeline riding smooth only pictured the maverick underneath after challenge. What did the Ridgeline look like underneath and the maverick is $10,000 cheeper what's the mpg difference. For the Ride difference. Price is why I went with the AWD Ford Maverick but I went with the XL and averaging 30 mpg. Never got specs on the Ridgeline when the starting price is the same as the ranger or Toyota pickup
I have a 2023 Ridgeline and I love it. Your use case is spot on, great commuter vehicle and very comfortable (and quick) on road. I was almost thinking about holding out for the 2024 model year and I'm glad I didn't because I was super disappointed in the trailsport. Really all they did is put different tires on it. No extra drive modes, no lift, even though there are plenty of aftermarket options for that. Skid plate was a miss too, there are lots of skid plates that cover various areas for the Ridgeline available aftermarket too. I briefly considered the Maverick tremor but was put off by the tow capacity because I do tow with my Ridgeline and it does well, and certainly do use the bed to haul stuff. I think my biggest disappointment with the 2024 model year was the deletion of the in bed audio on all trims (to my awareness). It's one of my favorite features on my 2023 RTL-E which was replaced by the trailsport in the American line up. The trailsport also doesn't have power in the bed, my rtl-e has a 400w plug back there and LED bed lights whereas the trailsport uses incandescent. Not a big deal for the lights but still note worthy. I'll eventually get some more aggressive tires for mine and go up a size too. I believe you can put a 265 tire on them and risk some minor rubbing. Stock is 245 and I'll probably split the difference and go with a 255, which will effectively give me an extra 1/4" of ground clearance. Not much but it could make a difference. I also ripped out my lower front fascia, being that air dam up front you mentioned was dragging. No issues with having it removed and it makes the truck "look" a little taller too. Over time I'll add skid plates to the front, middle and back but I really don't go extreme with offroading, or do it on a regular basis, but it's a great peace of mind thing for if I need it
I actually prefer the real gauges on the 23. Something about virtual instruments worries me.
I put a 1 1/2 inch leveling kit on mine, Nitto Terra 265/60R18 with a 1 1/2 Bora speaces. It improved the look of the Ridgeline tremendous.
How did removing the air damn affect your fuel efficiency?
@@danhughes1814 no change at all
I have a 2019 Ridgeline RTL AWD. I have taken it on muddy back roads, and it did great in mud mode. It also does great in snow. I have not tried it on sand, except in loose grave with sand mode. It did great! Due to the larger size, swinging tail gate, in bed trunk, and Made in USA, I definitely prefer the Ridgeline over the Maverick.
The Firestone Destination tires on the Ridgeline are a good all season tire. I put the Falken wild peak tires on my 22 Ridge. HUGE difference in mud and snow.
You had me at off-road model.
We all knew the maverick would be better off road just due to ground clearance. But I still have to give thw honda props for not getting stuck. Give it even more aggressive tires and 1 1/2" lift and you're golden.
Very good fair comparison; would have liked to see the underside of the Ridgeline after the mud bottoming off road test.
Honda;
1: Software update needed
2: Lift Kit
3: Better tires
4: Stronger and additional under body protection
Traxda, NoLo Designs, and Ridge Grapplers. The software...well...
@@rudymoralesjr If I remember right, the sand mode will let you spin tires all day long without cutting power and essentially locks the rear.
The honda honda doesn't have a rear differential. It has a ring gear bolted to a "spool" with hydraulic clutch packs on either side between the spool and axles. They had that set up long before the maverick twin clutch rear.
I own the RTL , engine and trans made in the US and Engineered and assembled in the US .Ford Maverick 98% mage in Mexico . That said having drove the Maverick if I wanted a truck under $30,000 it's a good truck with a smooth quiet ride .
Pretty good comparison but to be fair to the Honda, in the mud trail test, you slow walked the Honda and even stopped and rested it in the water before slow walking it vs plowed the ford through it with all the momentum. I’d like to see if the Honda would have done the same had you plowed it through also. Other than that great job on putting both trucks through the test.
AWESOME VIDEO-CAN YOU DO THAT RUN WITH THE RAV4 TRD VS SUBARU CROSSTREK WILDERNESS VS SANTA CRUZ ? I believe that would be fairly challenging for all of them.
The Tremor will still take em to school. The Bronco Sport Badlands and the Maverick Tremor have the most aggressive AWD system developed for a unibody vehicle.
I own a 2023 ridgeline. Best truck if you have kids! The 7.6 inch clearance is great for my kids with side boards. I dont do off roading but light gravel roads for fishing camping and such! But if you are hardcore rock climber then Taco or other more capable trucks.
If you had it locked in first like you said. It was the high rpm’s that were probably hitting the redline that cut the power on the Ridgeline.
Maverick is a mini/small truck. The Ridgeline is a mid-size truck. It'd be like comparing a Chevy Malibu (midsize car) to a Crown Vic (full size car). The Ranger Tremor would be the truck to go head-to-head with the Ridgeline.
With that said, good video and it showed how well the little Maverick did. But Ford should NOT have skimped with 'paper' undercarriage protection. They should have used the FX4 skid plates. Poor call there.

Thanks for subbing
I can see an aftermarket for steel versions of those black covers on the bottom of the Maverick.
ground clearance for the honda and is good to go
