Ok, what does that mean? Did the Law Firm buy the Taco?
Quit doing this.
What a gift it is to be able to do this work as a father/son team. Great content as always guys.
WORK?
@2.27 when Tommy argues with the system in frustration saying "I KNOW ITS BLOCKED I ALREADY AGREED WITH YOU!!!"😂😂😂😂😂
Press and hold the cruise control anytime you start the vehicle to switch to old school radar control.
The warning is because you have adaptive cruise control turned on. You either need to turn it off, or press and hold the cruise control button for ~3 seconds to switch to traditional (non-adaptive) cruise control.
My 3rd gen TRD off road does this in the slushy snow. They need to put a heater in that radar sensor on the front
@@rcktmn This is what makes Subaru EyeSight superior in snow. It is cleared by the windshield wipers.
@@stephenj4937 I have a new 2023 Forester and have encountered a few times that the EyeSight becomes disabled. The duration is usually short. I have been surprised by some of the things that have disabled it. Once I was driving up a hill at sunrise where the sun was shining directly into it. After cresting the hill, the EyeSight was restored after a couple of min.
Eh still happens @@stephenj4937
@@stephenj4937 Good point!!
The blue color is beautiful.

As you said, it’s really all about the tires. That’s one area where I’ve always bought the absolute best I could.
In this same storm it was amusing to see all the AWD vehicles stuck and struggling. Lots of Teslas and Rav4s on the side of the highway. AWD doesn’t mean Jack when the wet slush wants to pull you into the ditch. Water evacuation and tread compound are critical.
We live atop a small hill at the entrance to our neighborhood. Was great fun watching all the neighbors on their AWD crossovers struggle up the hill. Meanwhile my truck idles right up in 2wd with no weight in the bed. I didn’t understand why it was so challenging for everyone, so I went out and tried to get stuck like the rest of them and simply couldn’t.
Everyone has no problem spending $$$ on fancy clothes and concerts and useless tech in Cars, only to cheap out on tires - literally the only thing connecting you to the road!!!
Preach!
Absolutely!! Tires are what connect you to the road. It’s paramount to look at tires that are rated for tough conditions.
Yes tires but that wet slushy snow is some of the easiest to drive in, it’s a kin to driving in a rain storm…….all you need is good tires that get rid of water and you’re fine that’s why they’re stopping and accelerating quickly, it will be different in lighter fluffy snow that’s 6-8 inches or more!
@@dennissmith7214 Yes and no. There’s rainy slush, and there’s icy slush. Denver metro had the latter this week. Ton of rain, then a ton of snow, then it all froze to hell. That spring slush isn’t terrible if it’s not all frozen. But ya, still surprises folks whose tires don’t do well in regular rain.
The state of washington wants to ban tires with good tread because they are bad for mpg. They prefer low-resistance tires.
That pop was a foreshadowing of what was to come
Fun father -son video. Great job guys.
I wish it had grab handles in the A pillars like the older generations did.
The passenger side looks like it does. My 2023 TRD OR and Dad’s 2017 SR are also the same. KTJO sells a driver’s side airbag compatible grab handle. I’m saving up my pennies to get one to help ingress since I have yet to get sliders.
Can’t wait for the Trail Boss comparisons
Well the first comparison in the next video shows the Trail Boss > this Tacoma.
It’s now Chocolate Blueberry !!!! Nice guys !!!
Just fyi, "rugged terrain" tires are typically _more_ aggressive than AT tires, not less. So like a Falcon Wildpeak RT or a Nitto Ridge Grappler are more aggressive than a Wildpeak AT3 or Recon Grappler, but less aggressive than their MT lines. That BFG Trail Terrain is actually meant to be a less off roady version of the KO2. They're built for crossovers and light trucks to do light off roading (forest service roads, a 1, 2 or 3 rated trail) while still maximizing performance on road. Otherwise, great video, and I can't wait to see the new series around this truck. Hoping for a lift and bigger and better tires after all the initial testing is complete.
BFG used to offer a tire called Rugged Terrain. Would come stock on Tacomas and Frontiers. It was less aggressive then the all terrain KO2.
@@CarnutMM You are correct. Still running them on my Jeep because they are better on road than All Terrains.
The new Tacoma is awesome. Can’t wait for more testing vids
Just wish they
Updated videos shows the new Tacoma is not so awesome.
For that warning, i had that happen on a rental Rav4. I just turned off whatever was using that sensor (cruise) and it stopped coming back. Same conditions as this.
Yea I noticed when he cleared the alert 2:19 it said adaptive cruise mode right after. Maybe turn that off and it wouldn’t come back 9n,
You're not supposed to use cruise control, anyways, in bad conditions. Ask any Canadian.
The sensors being blocked is extremely normal, here, with snow/ice building up on bumpers and such. My wife and I both have to disable our sensors and such or they beep non stop.
@@mtbrdudeI hate adaptive cruise. I switch to constant velocity on my Tundra. If the logo gets dirt/frost/slush on it, it's not working. Pain in the ash
@mtbrdude They probably weren't using cruise, it was likely just on when they got to those conditions and the sensor got caked with snow. They seem like pretty smart peeps.
The cruise control thing is just displaying whether it is adaptive or conventional mode, not whether it’s on. But the new Toyotas have an annoying level of warnings. We have a Subaru Solterra EV( made by toyota) and we get a constant warning message at high charge levels that “regen braking is not available. Use brake pedal to decelerate”. Anytime you lift off the throttle and coast with a high SoC, that warning comes back. It’s really annoying.
It doesn't do so hot in the snow especially when the front drive train grenades. GREAT VIDEO!
yep....that video opened my eyes, and i cancelled my order for the 2024
maybe with a 24 inch screen, it wouldn't have broke.
the off road is not meant to go off road.
I just learned of a recall for this issue.
Sat in it last weekend at my local CO dealer. Interior is so premium to look and feel. Only issue is the back seats on double cab is for small kids. Unless your a 5'9 driver than plenty of room for avg size adults.
Reason I have to get rid of my 2021 and I can't get into a 4th as I'm 6'1 and it just won't work
Phew, 5'9 guy here.
You really think it looks premium? IMO in looks like a massive downgrade in quality.
Third gen had the same issue. Girlfriends barely fit there on a double date
@@dbunch904 it's a truck. It looks fine. Minus the bullshit touch screen radio system, its light years ahead of the interior on my round ass grey and boring 2006.
I put the same tires on my Expedition they were game changers!! Really good tire in the snow. Definitely getting another set.
Great video love TFL.
You guys are frkien awesome!!!!
Damn it! If that’s not a great work day I don’t know what is. Awesome stuff guys.
Love to see it! Keep an eye out for another Tacoma coming out of TX asap!
Awesome....great that you guys are the first!! 🎉
Yay! Thank you!
Loving the tacoma videos fellas
That is a sexy beast of a truck, love it. Thanks for the review video guys!
It's really good that Tommy has dialed it back when talking to is Dad . Much much better. Love the color of the blueberry!!
Tommy is usually right, Roman is the stubborn old man. I do love these dad/son videos.
If I talked to my dad the way tommy does. I would have got the crap slapped out of me. He raises his voice any time his father disagrees. When Roman remains calm and cool. Seems like he can’t debate with out becoming angry.
Us too!
I never took it that way. It came across as just their style of banter.
Great video! Love the father and son combo.
I have the same tires on my 2019 4Runner TRD OR and I love them. They are 3PMS rated!! 5k miles in and they have been great in rain, NE snow/slush and have handled my limited “off roading” just fine. I think Toyota made a great choice. Much better that the Grandtreks or Duellers in the past.
I love how he says “Dad” for everything. You can tell that Roman is a good daddy and his son really respects and loves him.
Um, not's not Andre lol and Andre is not Tommy's father lol.
@@TylnortonRoman…hahaha
Nice truck and blue is my favourite 🇨🇦
Great Tacoma video!!
Great content as always guys.)))
Y'all are having to much fun in that new truck, good luck with Blueberry full speed ahead. 👍
Very informative video! I have one of these on the way (manual transmission)
Glad it was helpful!
I’m here for the 404 wagon! 😎
Looks like fun!!
Looks like the two of you had a good time. Looking forward to many more videos showing what Blueberry can do.
Or can't do. It how it'll break.
I’m liking the color and the truck
Tommy spinning the tires. This reminds me of that MEME where the guy says “I told him not to sit there, gunnin it , spinning the tires Ohhh F!!!”
😂😂😂😂😂
I feel a lot better about our southern Ohio winters now...
I like the truck and the video, thx
The RAV4 has the same issue. It is the radar collision sensor in the Toyota logo on the front of the car that cannot handle the snow or bright sun blinding it. I have seen some reviews of customers experiencing it in blizzard conditions and I experienced myself here in the south driving straight into the bright sunlight.
awesome truck. ty for sharing. have to admit tons better w/o the chin spoiler can't wait to see how it cleans up w/o those steps ...
Those tires are great! I have them on my rav4, I go on trails every weekend and they do great.
Yes they are!
Time to change the break-in oil.
Great video. Im really impressed by this new Tacoma
Less impressed with new videos.
Those steps are dingleberry collectors! 😂😂😂
We barely got any snow in northern Indiana this year it sucks. I like driving in it, even cars always have. It's fun to find a road like this or parking lot and mess around.
The Blueberry loves to have fun!!!
I have the same tires on my Colorado and they are amazing in snow.
Just put them on my 98 Jeep XJ - love them!
My 2017 Highlander gives a similar message about clearing the sensor/camera when they get covered up. I disable the automatic braking system to stop the message from happening at all and becoming continuously annoying. I try to remember to shut off automatic braking if I am going to be driving in slushy/snowy conditions to be proactive.
Frozen blueberry, i like it👍
Glad to see that those Trail Terrains seem to be doing well, because I just picked those up for my 4Runner.
the Trail Terrains are amazing.. have had them on my Outback for a year now!
That is exactly why Subaru puts the adaptive CC and safety systems up high behind the windshield. It works great in most storms as long as the wipers are working and the snowfall rate is not extremely heavy.
I had a 2020 Subaru Outback before my 4 runner and they perform very similar with radar. At least Toyota cruise isn’t disable when it happens
I can turn off the radar cruise in my '23 Outback when the eye-sight is disabled. After I do that, normal cruise works fine.
I would have done a 2wd traction vs 4x4 test, traction in the winter is also influenced on temperature as well!
Kudos to dad for trusting his son to be doing the driving in a brand new 50K (after taxes) truck.
Kudos to son for allowing elderly dad to drive in inclement weather
They're multimillionaires and have nicer cars than this.
When you change out the tires on this truck, could you test the General Grabber ATx?
Did great with those tires on, with winter tires this truck would be unstoppable 😊
Time to save up for a new Tacoma 😂
When breaking-in a new engine, you want to seat the piston rings stepwise, up the full RPM range.
So, Tommy's farming did a good job of getting that upper RPM range break-in started ;)
Wake up. They picked up the truck in Texas and "broke it in" by towing a trailer at highway speeds for over 1,000 miles. So much for seating the piston rings. TFL real world screwing up.
I have to drive through this stuff often up here in Canada. Waiting on the Limited Hybrid to come up here.
I'm impressed that Toyota has finally(?) figured out how to implement traction control in a measured way, without instantly cutting all throttle response (as my old 4Runner does, maddeningly).
This was definitely this past weekend. lol
White beard there with them debris catching steps probably would have gripped a bit better in the "mud" if someone was not slinging it like a hooligan. Hard to utilize tread when you are spinning it like slicks. :P Seemed to do really well on the slushy roads when driven properly. No argument that tires can make or break a performance. But you have to utilize what you have properly to make a proper assessment. It would be like putting M/T's on and then going to the drag strip and expecting it to perform like proper slicks.
You aren't wrong about the warning in snow. My 3rd gen tundra does that and it drives me nuts. Also does it when my mtb tire blocks a sensor.
It may have spun the tires in the mud, but it didn't get stuck either, so I am impressed, so far..
If the motor wasn't broken in before it is NOW😂
I'd be getting that oil changed asap and maybe see what kind of metal you knocked loose?
🤯mind is blown!
Well your carmax value just went down to $28,000! Clean 1 owner never abused!!
😂😂😂
Loved it ! Now... time for some real tires
Is there a way to turn off adaptive cruise? That may prevent the warning from coming back on.
Love it! Break in be dammed! 😂
Do you guys usually apply any sort of paint protection such as PPF and/or ceramic coating?
I just got a trd pro Tacoma and was wanting to take it more seriously off road. Most trails in my area are closed for the season but I was wondering if you guys knew of any in between Boulder and Fort Collins that I can hit this time of year. Thanks!
That’s a sensor in the front of the truck that’s giving you that warning that happened to our New Chevrolet track for the cold weather we had down here in in Louisiana we was getting that sensor when I was going through some snow.
I have BFG TrailTerrain’s on my F150. Got them in 2020 when they first came out. I live in Michigan, replaced my AT3w’s with them due to a blow out and I think they are they best all around tire right now if you’re looking for a hybrid off road/winter/highway/daily driver performance tire. Brand new, they will thought they had the best traction in the snow by far compared to the stock Michelin and even the AT3w’s I had on before. The only issue I have is I have maybe 45,000 miles on them and this will probably be my last winter with them since I have to run 4x4 in any snow or I lose traction, but I’m very happy with the tires. I’m currently debating another set of them or the AT4w’s. I love the look of the truck with the Falken’s but love the performance of the BFG’s.
Now that I use O'Sullivan, my wife loves me, and my kids want to be around me.
Thanks O'Sullivan!
Totally agree. O’Sullivan is the real $hit! If you keep using O’Sullivan not only your wife will love you but your wife’s boyfriend too! Speaking from deep personal experience!
O'Sullivan is the best at lawyering.
3 or 4 inches of snow. We just got 5 feet here in cape breton, nova scotia
💯 need mud tires for what you use it for
Take a drink every time Tommy says Dad.
I have a 2024 rav4 hybrid and those sensors get blocked all the time. I just go clean them off. Then another hour down the road I will have to clean them again. That's usually only when it's snowing out pretty good
@tfloffroad what would be fun to know is how these stock tires rate compared to other new off-road truck tires you guys have tested. I.e. TRX, raptor, Z71s, etc
Frozen blueberry
I love my 2020 tacoma, can't afford newer model
I would remove those side steps. That radar warning is a dedicated dash light on my 2022 4runner Limited so it doesn't block anything.
Back in '89 we called that a lawn job.
I’m proud of you tommy and Roman. Well done guys
Now to convince the Mrs. for one of these instead of a crossover 😅
If you have your cruise on, that may be why it keeps warning you to clean the sensor?
If this was 40k out the door and I had 40k to blow id consider it but 50k 🤣.
I had the same problem with the my passport.with wet heavy snow all kind of lights came on, it ended up being snow covering the front camera.wiped all the snow off all the lights went out
I would be changing the oil after that!
Blueberry is a good truck.. while fluff the small screen does annoy some.
On my tundra it is the emblem in the front that cause the radar
Does MTS works in new gen Tacoma in 4Hi ?? Because MTS works in 4Hi in GX550 and it has snow mode.
What are your impressions of the front dash setup? Driver and passenger sides.
Does the Taco come with anti-corrosion spray from the dealer for snowy roads?
Sweet
spring doesn't start till march 20th, this is winter!!!
Turn the active cruise control and that warning will probably go away. With the active cruise turned on, the sensor is trying to work, but is probably covered with snow.
The Senor issue might because you had adaptive curse control on which requires those sensors....
I gotta say I know TFL purchased this taco so they going to give it all the attention, love, and praise it to death. While giving it minimal criticism. Just feel that TFL can be very biased sometimes towards some brands and trucks. While always kinda shitting on others. The new Nissan Frontier barely got any attention it deserves. And no where close to what they give other car brands. And that’s a fine truck.
🫐 Awesome content, this and the road trip!
Glad you enjoyed it!
