I shot that combo in 2018, the Meike 35 with the SLR magic 2X on a GH4 for a short film. I remember the rangefinder caused it to vignette so I put it on a crane 2 and never pulled any focus. I sold the adapter afterwards, -but I'm now thinking I wish I had the cash to try that SLR magic 2X + the rangefinder with the Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 zoom on a black magic 4k... I can't seem to find any footage online of that combo. Let me know if you want a link to my film to see more footage of that combo though!
The only way to get a true 16:9 is through Anamorphic lens the problem with modern video camera is they crop into the sensor to get the 16:9 aspect ratio, this is why the GH5s is great it has a sensor with a multi aspect ratios and an open gate mode for Anamorphic video. I did a set up where we got 2 GH4s and mounted them on a rig each having a 25mm manual primes and then stitched the footage together for a panoramic image. anyway thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video, currently I'm using 17mm f0.95 with Anamorphot 40 1.333. The results are quite nice, but... I have to crop the image. The combo you are using is my dream choice, so it was nice to bump into your video. The results you are showing are fantastic!
hey :) i got anamorphot 1.33x50 and i am planning similar combo but.... instead of a meike photo , i am going to go for a meike 35mm cine lens. What do you say about my combo ? and yes...your man on window + landscape from top window are very cinematic. They are shot and color corrected nicely..
Appreciate this. Didn't know much about anamorphic lenses, and was under the impression the reason to use them was to get more detail from the sensor. Personally, I don't like the barrel distortion, although I'm sure this could be corrected in software. Also, wondering why not use a sharper taking lens?
Alan Tutt often the anamorphic adapter isn’t crazy sharp, and you’ll stretch or compress in post, and people often want some kind of “look” to it. So often people pair with a not so sharp taking lens with some character. But you could definitely pair it with a better lens if that’s your preferences. But no big lens fronts, you’ll run into limitation in what the adapter can do (you don’t want to see the adapter in your image) Agree the barrel distortion seems a bit crazy here. I’m not sure what’s the anamorphic adapter and what’s the taking lens, or they both are contributing to it. I’ve only used really old shoddy setups, and modern anamorphic lenses (adapter and lens built in one). The old shoddy lenses were a bit to much for me to handle. Adapter not wanting to stay positioned correctly, lots of lens supports to try to get them to stay on rail. The SLR Magic options shown here are probably a lot easier to use if you can afford them, seems to fit well. The Vazen or Sirui lenses (no taking lens needed, single focus) are probably a lot easier to use, and likely less distortion. With the caveat that I’ve only shot the Vazen outside, I’ve never noticed any barrel distortion with it.

28mm works well on m43. I'd say that's the widest to go. You get some edge softness, but that's quite desirable to me.

Great intro. Thanks. GH6 here….same Anamorphot on Helios 44M 58/2.…and a rangefinder. More testing but so far poor focus….

Just Bought a SLR 50 1.33 fun like you said for fun. Will keep your info in mind. Let me play with it and see...
Awesome! Whenever I’m at work I save your videos to watch later
can this adaptor be used with autofocus lens ??
is the adapter a single or double focus adapter?
Very interesting ! i have a passion for anamorphic lenses ! Thanx !
Have you posted your anamorphic video pictured in this video anywhere?
Would this work with any of the voightlanders?
Can I use that with a mft Olympus pro lense which has a filter thread of 62mm?
Why not just run the live footage full screen instead of scrubbing stills on a
NLE screen? Makes no sense for quality assessment.
Waste of time dude.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing.
Interesting, thanks! what would you recommend to use for a carrying lens for full frame ? :)

Have you tried using this with a 645 lens with a dumb adapter? I don't think you could ever see the lens with those.
