Thanks for this overview. I too have a GH4 and a few Anamorphot adaptors.... 2x65 and its accompanying Rangefinder....Also 1.33 16x9.... But the cool part is I recently picked up a GH6 and am going to make some investigations with shooting Anamorphic Vertical video. Thanks for the inspiration to get busy playing again. LOL
Have you used the panasonic 12-35mm or 35-100mm f2.8 with the adapter? How does the autofocus work when you take photos with it? I was hoping to use the panasonic leica 25mm f1.4...too wide? Thank you!
I haven't tested autofocus yet but I imagine it's not great especially if the lens front needs to move in order to focus. The 25mm shouldn't be too wide of a focal length but 1.4 is probably too wide of an aperture.
GH4 + Speedbooster @ 35mm is right at that borderline for this anamorphic. If you're okay with some minor vignetting (which you can crop in post) then you'll be good. As for support, if you have a lens with a tripod collar that helps balance out the weight but you can also get a rail kit + lens support. These anamorphics are heavy so it's best to use some support, but that does slow down the shooting process and you certainly can't "run and gun" if that's your normal style.
I NEED ADVICE, I'm thinking of getting this style of Lens for some low budget Filming. I have have a Nikon Camera with a 55MM lens on it, along with a few other lens. But I need to know if this is the right kind of adapter to buy before actually buying it. Also where is the best place to buy an adapter like this?
What do you think of these setup with gh5 new firmware update?6k anamorphic and you can have 16x9 markers in that mode! I was thinking of trying this setup with my gh5 panny 12-35 lens. Is it best to use a 2.0 anamorphic for this setup?
He means 35mm, not 17.5. A lot of these anamorphot or projector anamorphics can only handle 35mm taking lenses at their widest, something like a Nikkor 35mm. Long lenses are more friendly with anamorphics. I use a Sigma 50mm with a .71x speedbooster and 1.9x anamorphic, and even at 50mm the sides bend and distort (It's awesome, but to go wider is to get crazier). He mentions using a speedbooster as well, meaning he's using glass larger than M43. Doesn't mean 17.5 wouldn't work, but you really have to test it. I feel like the vignetting and bending in the frame would be RIDICULOUS with the 17.5. Anamorphics get real dirty real fast using wide lenses.
hi, good video. Is it possible to use GH5 + SLR Magic Anamorphot 2x Adapter + rangefinder + small lens for example: helios 44-2 f2/58mm with zhiyun crane Z1? I need this... Thanks
Nah, anamorphic lenses are so you can use a more flattering lens focal length but still get that wide angle. The bokeh isn't what gives you the cinematic look at all, that is just a lens flare, it only happens occasionally, so it's not the "cinematic look". Half of 35mm is 17.5mm, which is very wide angle. 35mm is the same focal length of the human eye, so it's the go to lens, unless you are trying to produce the look of the 50mm or 75mm, or you have to frame your shot better.
So, all these years later, do you still find this lens useful?
Great impression, thanks for taking the time to put this together. Excited to see footage!
You are welcome! Thanks!

I have a GH4 and speedbooster. I also own a Sigma 35mm 1.4 art. will this work on my sigma taking lens which is 67mm front thread.
Yeah, have you had problems with focus?

must be Ale's boyfriend/lover....
it's a bloody first impressions video as he said within the first 30seconds. Open your ears, mate
Also with all the extra front weight of these two lenses, how do you guys go about supporting them.

i actually have 82mm nd filter, sounds like it is not a good choice for me
When you say 35mm are you taking into account the 2x crop? For instance a 17.5mm effectively being 35mm?

35mm full frame lenses with speedbooster is the widest you can go

+CineWorld vfx I imagine that setup would be too heavy
aha ok. thanks friend
ok, thanks ;-)
First Impressions. i agree with u! need some review after using it a while. liked - thx

the 5D III can also Shoot 4:3 2400x1800
Can we use it on Fujifilm X-T3 ?
I haven't shot with the X-T3 so I'm not sure. Does it have a 2x anamorphic mode?
finally
why not show some footage... ?
where is comprehensive "proper" review as you said on 10:07 ?
And the comparison never happened.... T_T
