I pair mine with a Lumix 20mm f/1.7. The combo is hella compact, and super easy to focus. I would be so hyped if they made the same adapter with neutral or amber flares, or maybe a 1.5x stretch factor for slightly more oval bokeh. Thanks for the good review!

Zeek- is there a ring adapter "configuration", that would allow this adaptor to work, on a Rokinon lens that is a 77mm thread? Apparently this might cause some vignette in some way , but this seems to be the most affordable way to convert a Rokinon lens to have some anamorphic squeeze that will bring a more cinematic aspect ratio to the footage from these lenses

Can you speak to some actual distance numbers when you mention close focusing issues? I’m interested in an adapter like this as I own a Helios and 2 Canon FD lenses that all have 52mm front filter threads. I’m curious as to what the limitations you speak of actually look like for shooting. Is there a number of feet of distance you can reference before I need a diopter or to move my feet to get subjects in focus? And you mention the diameter of the glass. Not sure how that relevant, as how can you have greater than 50mm glass with a 52mm filter thread? Pretty hard, no?

As long as the the front glass of your taking lens is smaller than the back glass diameter of the anamorphic adapter, you'll get great results. The zooms don't do too well.

I have seen videos made with 1.33 anamorphic adapters like this along with oval cutouts added in the taking lens (like Tito’s “anamorfake”) for the bokeh that looked pretty good, have you ever tried that or considered it?
I think the idea is to shoot wide open using the cutout along with a variable nd filter to control exposure? Then you get the oval bokeh from the cutout and real flares and compression from the adapter, and the examples do look quite good.

Yeah, they're good solutions too, I have done this method with the Sigma 18-35mm. But you can't stop the lens down otherwise you get vignette. It's mainly for shooting around wide open.

@@ZeekEOSZ Just to be clear, I’m not referring to the oval filters with the string in the middle for flares, I mean just the oval insert in the taking lens and a real anamorphic adapter in front for flares and compression - so the flares are real and only the oval bokeh comes from the insert - but yes, it was described as only working with the aperture wide open and using a variable ND to control exposure - looked great but I can’t find it on RUclips now (not sure what I was searching for when I ran across it).

@@martymcfly2936 Okay, never seen that method being done, sounds interesting though, especially for portraiture 👌🔥

Depends on what you plan on using it for. For the price, this one in my opinion is a keeper.

I would rather get another good lens for that price, but ig in certain scenarios it can be a good choice, I would buy it for like 200.-

I've looked into it and Iove the global shutter aspect, t's just that I probably wouldn't use it as much as the cameras I have now.

I've had this and it completely destroyed image quality on any lens I tested it with. Its not worth it IMO since the artifacts and distortions does not mimic the quality of a true anamorphic lens and more like those budget anamorphics back in the day

    • @ZeekEOSZ

The adapter if used with the right setup can produce excellent results, of course with the exceptions of the things mentioned in the vid like bokeh. But the results do speak for themselves. Using smaller glass with this adapter will get you the best results. Of course it's nowhere near a perfect anamorphic lens, but for a stylistic cinematic choice, it really is a joy to use.

@@ZeekEOSZ The bokeh looks far better and longer when focused closer. It's not entirely double focus, you can leave it on near and focus very well with the lens only up to around 10 metres. After that, bokeh doesn't really matter as much.
