Magig Lantern proves that Canon cripples its cameras. The sensors are capable of much more, but the original software limits what you can really do. I shoot canon, but hate this restricting policy
It's not just software but hardware too. ML can work because many raw is 1:1 pixel readout meaning you get a crop into a sensor. There's less heat if you're only using a smaller part of the sensor. So a 4k crop is only using 8mp from the original 18mp sensor which is about 1.5x~ish crop on a 1.6x sensor = 2.4x crop factor. So it is smaller than a micro four thirds, and a smidge bigger than a 1" sensor (3x). In 1080p, it's probably even smaller than a 1" sensor. (i.e. smartphone sized) That said, the low price point is perfect for people to dabble into raw video. Just wanted to point out it's not just magic sauce that Canon removed on purpose.
Can you just buy the focus-pulling gear for FD lenses or do you have to 3d print your own? Instead of video I use mic triggering with a shorting switch to shoot a pair of these on a bracket for stereo photography.
Based on the footage shown, this would look pretty good with some dramatic lighting and maybe some 16mm film grain. However, motion looks a bit bad. Overall, super impressive for 200 bucks though.
Magic Lantern is not a company, they don't sell anything. They are a community project creating free and open source software. The open source firmware extension shows that canon and any other camera company limits their devices to sell more expensive ones. Entry level cameras could have all software features the most expensive have...
I’ve got the 28-70 too, i love it so far but I find the 2.6 to bloom a bit but then changes once I put it to 2.8-3.5, do you have the same issue? And also I find the zoom a bit stiff not sure is you have the same
The main drawback is that this generation of canon cameras have severe moire issues. You cannot film a brick wall or any striped pattern without seeing these strange artifacts. It can be fixed with an expensive mosaic filter that is placed before the sensor.
it fixes almost completely using the crop mode.. I had a 550D and I remember having the isue you mentioned even recording RAW with ML, but it all dissapear when using crop mode . Tha mode also allow the ancient 550d to record 2k for like 2 seconds at 20 fps jjajaja. funny
What is the pixels start blinking on 5:30+ ? You can see it on tree left up side. If you want see em - you need watching video full size - full screen.

Great info! Never heard of it until now. So thanks so much. Again; what is the music you've used in the first part of your vid? 👍🏻👊🏼
0:45 I know what you are going to say. Magic….. Lantern!!!
(i.e. smartphone sized)
That said, the low price point is perfect for people to dabble into raw video. Just wanted to point out it's not just magic sauce that Canon removed on purpose.
@@professionalpotato4764 wow... Great info there.
Thank you
This is awesome! Is the output resolution for this camera also 1080p?
Can you just buy the focus-pulling gear for FD lenses or do you have to 3d print your own?
Instead of video I use mic triggering with a shorting switch to shoot a pair of these on a bracket for stereo photography.
Been using mlraw for over a year now. While the workflow and file sizes are pain in the ass, the image is too good to go back the h264
Nice video man thanks.
Impressive little camera. What a dream; Not a perfect but ; Wow
How does it handle the heat? I would imagine pushing this beyond what it was built for would create some heat issues.
i tried pushing the eos m. i ran out of storage without even having overheat problems. not unlike the 60d or 70d that had magic lantern in them.
That's epic
What an amazing camera.
Crazy and we like it!
Very nice BGM, mind to share the link? Thx
Got one when it went out of production. €289 with kit and flash. Later added the 22mm EF-M.
I saw a bunch of small white specks appearing in the video. Is that from the camera itself?
Damn ! How much of that cinematic quality is lens through ?
The colours are incredible.
Good music choice too 👍
Wonder if you could fix up sharpness with just some Topaz AI action?
I’ve got the 28-70 too, i love it so far but I find the 2.6 to bloom a bit but then changes once I put it to 2.8-3.5, do you have the same issue? And also I find the zoom a bit stiff not sure is you have the same
Yes I’ve noticed both of those with my copy!
WOW eos m super RAW also i love the cage too
The main drawback is that this generation of canon cameras have severe moire issues.
I’m loving the soundtrack, Is there a name to it?
Cool. Thanks for sharing.
You have links to three lenses listed, but nothing more to find the Tokina/Agneaux lens. A link to something, please?
