The Adapter has a lock ring. You screw the Adapter to the lens thread not until it's tight but close to once it is lined up. Then you rotate the lock ring to lock it in place.
On Final Cut Pro it has a setting for Anamorphic Desqueeze. 2x, 1.33 etc. Even in Davinci Resolve. With this 1.33x, I Desqueeze as 1.25x, in Davinci under the Anamorphic Desqueeze Settings.
Okay. I'm aware that anamorphic de-squeeze is a thing. I was actually interested in your opinion, on whether you think it's worth it, versus just taking a few steps back to get a wider shot, then cropping the image in post to achieve the same ratio.
Looks awesome dude but a bit soft, and a bit soft really is just..soft! I just got one in the post so will see what comes of it, might be tempted to sell if it doesn't pull through! Focus is everything. Thanks for the review
Thinking of grabbing this as I want to get into shooting short films, a few questions. Does this affect crop factor at all? I shoot APSC mode on an EOS R, so will a 50mm 1.8 STM look like an 85? I'm thinking the 50mm 1.8 may be the way I go but for indoor shots it may be a bit long as well. From everything I've read either a 40mm or 50mm give the best results. Any advice is appreciated.
I actually like 28/35 & 50mm. The crop is 1.6x for the 1080 mode. I'll be making a new video soon of all my settings as well as a mini uncompleted short film. Honestly an amazing cam.
I have this adapter and I m happy with this... I m wondering if there is another company like SLR Magic who has similar adapters (not anamoprhic lenses)
Nice vid, thanks man! Should fit without adapters on the Canon EFS 24mm, that should be sweet. (Price and esp.) availability seem to be a problem right now.
Yep, 52mm filter thread. If you can get it at a good price, even used, i think it's a good choice considering it can be used and adapted with pretty much any format e.g. full frame, m43 etc..
I have a quick question for you. I use Zukio OM lenses on my original bmpcc. The fronts of the lenses are 49mm threads. would the diameter be too big to use with this adapter?
It's mainly the glass, it has to be 40mm or less in diameter not the thread. So as long as that is followed, you will gett better results with less distortion.
Yeah, hopefully they release it for the EF or EOS M Mount! 😣 Don't know what held them back in the first place. Probably Mount popularity. Anyway, we'll see! 📽👍
thanks for the great review ! bro, im using BMPCC4K and 25mm SLR magic T0.95 for M43 which is equivalent around 50mm on fullframe ? will it works great with this anamorphic adapter ?
This looks awesome. I appreciate the footages. I'm wondering if it's something that can be used with the Sony ZV1 which has a 52mm filter thread and a 24-75mm equivalent lens.
Yes, but it depends more on the camera you're using. The Pentax has a 49mm filter thread. It would be fine on Aps-c, more tricky with Aps-c, the glass diameter would need to be less than 40mm.
Hello, thank you very much for great information. Can I ask you two questions? I use bmpcc 6k and Ef mount lens. Which SLR anamorphoto 1.33 do you recommend more,40 or 50? Also, if you have any favorite lenses, please let me know. I use canon but considering buying sigma.
No problem 👍 40 version means you need lenses with smaller glass, 50 means you can use lenses that have no more bigger than 50mm glass diameter otherwise they will have distortion. I'd recommend the 50 for more lens choices. I'd suggest the Takumar Super Multi-coated 50mm F1.4 or 55mm, Pentacon 50mm F1.8, Nikkor Ai-s 50mm F1.4, all good vintage choices for S35. Sigma glasses are too big for taking lens, they usually have from threads of 72-77mm, whereas the back thread of these adapters are 60mm for the 40 and I think 67mm for the 50.
No problem at all! Honestly, this in my opinion and the 50 version are the best there is out there. I also used it here with great vintage results: ruclips.net/video/EulDugO-Rj4/видео.html 😎👍
Congrats! Yeah the AF is fine, but actually useless with the double focus solution. You need to be the right distance away otherwise focus won't identify you.
@@ZeekEOSZ Hello again. How big is the focusing throw on the compact 40? On my 65 its pretty far. Can the adapter be set to a "overall" setting, so it will cover most of the forcusing range and let the takin lens do the focusing, so to speak? I am really new to this so. Apologize if my questions are newbie :-D. I am considering getting the 40 insted of the 65
This cam cost me $99 so I can afford to ;). Besides, it's not like it's sunny everyday and I don't think Its going to do a big deal, unless you sun bake the sensor 😎👍
No problem. Almost every lens has a filter thread on the front. E.g. some are 49mm or 52mm others 72/77mm etc. These anamorphot adapters have a back thread to screw onto the taking lens' front thread. The back thread of this anamorphot compact 40 is 60mm or 52mm as it comes with a step up converter 52-60mm. You need to check the filter thread of your lens in order to fit the back thread of the Adapter.
@@eviltroops The 7Artisans 12mm isn't a good fit as it has a 77m filter thread. The back of the Anamorphot is only 60mm. A good fit would be the 7Artisans 25mm f1.8 which has a 46mm filter thread. Then you get a 46-60mm Step-Up Ring or 46-52mm Step-Up Ring.

hey there, do u think Konica pancake 40mm f1.8 fits this adapter? Canon pancake 40mm fits it, also I got Sony zeiss pancake 35mm f2.8, it magicially fits this adapter no vigniting because the front glass is very tiny, even smaller than Canon pancake 40mm...but it doesn't give 2x oval and i dont wanna risk to open Sony lens, so now i wanna modify a lens like putting an oval inset at aperture so i could have 2x oval, but i want it wide like 35mm 40mm, i already have modified 2x oval Helios 58mm, it's all good but too long focal length i feel...I found that u touched many old lenses, probably u can give me some advice like which 35mm-40mm can fit this adapter also can be modified??? thank u
I used a Sony Zeiss 35mm F2.8 and it fit this Adapter perfectly in Full Frame no vignette. Smaller the glass, less issues. The Konica will be fine for sure! I like using C mount lenses and some M42/Nikkor glass, w.g. Pentacon 50mm F1.8 MC or Nikkor Ai 50mm etc. Anything with a small glass is sick.
@@ZeekEOSZ did u already try Konica pancake 40mm? the focal length seems longer 5mm but the front glass is a little bit bigger, that is where i'm worried...the reason Sony zeiss 35mm can work with it because the front glass is so tiny...

Great video. I bought one about a month ago (on sale at BH for $399) and found that de-squeezing to 1.33x is actually too much. It needs to be around 1.25x to be accurate. Have you found it to be the same?
Thanks Luke! Great price 👌 Yeah I find that too, 1.25x is right! A few people have mentioned that on other forums, so all we can do is adjust. It still creates gorgeous imagery though for the price. 👍
Just found that out the hard way haha, It's actually quite well made this adapter, shame it does not cover 50mm front glass, any tips on MFT or EF lenses from 20mm up to 50 that work well with this?
There is the 50mm Anamorphot but it's way overpriced these days. Anything with a small front glass no matter the focal length should work fine. The Panny 20mm pancake is nice or the 25mm F/1.7 I like the Canon FD 35mm F2.8, nice small glass.
Sure is! I know, it's the cheapest one in it's range though for 16:9 sensors. If you can find a stella price on ebay or Amazon, I wouldn't flinch. Cheers man! :)
Hi Zeek, very nice footage as always! I have a question for you, If I buy a Viltrox Speedbooster from Fd to my Eos m, can I adapt for example an M42 helios to fd and to the Speedbooster or the flange distance Will be too large and It wont work?
Cheers Greg :) Unfortunately that won't work due to the flange distance. Best option is the FD Speedbooster to EOS M, or even just the basic FD to EOS M Adapter.
@@bygregik Its not viltrox it's an actual Canon FD Speedbooster to eos m. ruclips.net/video/0vi0DD5yoEM/видео.html I would recommend the Canon new 50mm f1.8 or 1.4 and the Canon FD 28mm.

Wait I got confused when you attached a 49-52 adapter on your 49 front element lens, but you said you must be limited into 40 or less front element lens to avoid vignettes and distortions?
It's a step up rings so I can mount the adapter which has a 52mm back thread on to the lens with a 52mm filter thread. The glass of the lens should be 40mm in. Diameter or less, the filter thread size doesn't matter. The smaller glass size the better the result.
Honestly depends on your needs. Check out videos on the Magic Mini and see if you like the stuff that comes out of it and whether you would use it often. The Anamorphot is a great addition if you can get it at a good price. 👍
Wow Zeek this looks incredible. Well done. Quick question: Do you use the forced FPS setting? If so, how do you also record audio with your mic while doing it? Thanks!
Thanks!👍 Forced fps in camera or in MLV App? I use fps override only in MCM rewire and not the other modes, there is sound available. If I don't need the sound, then in MLV App I choose fps override which will remove audio.
In MLV App, if you choose FPS Override, you cannot export Audio as well. In Camera, with FPS Override, you should be able to get audio as well and it shouldn't be disabled.
Yes this will work with M43, APS-C, and Full Frame. I bought this because it's so much cheaper than the 50 1.33x I got it for $400 which is a good price!
Just bought the Eos M 15-45 kit lens for use with Magic Lantern and have encountered a strange issue where there are visible red dots in a cross pattern at the centre of video taken with this lens. As long as the filter thread is 52mm it should fit, otherwise, no. 11-16mm will vignete too if the glass is too big. Glass needs to be less than 40mm [Diameter].

Okay. I'm aware that anamorphic de-squeeze is a thing. I was actually interested in your opinion, on whether you think it's worth it, versus just taking a few steps back to get a wider shot, then cropping the image in post to achieve the same ratio.
@@RBFilmsja Personally I don't like to crop in. I always prefer the original image.
Great job explaining!
Thank you :)
Looks awesome dude but a bit soft, and a bit soft really is just..soft! I just got one in the post so will see what comes of it, might be tempted to sell if it doesn't pull through! Focus is everything. Thanks for the review
Must have missed focus a bit in some shots haha.. but from memory I think I also used a diffusion filter with the FD Glass.
There's one called century optics
hey Zeek, great video!! can u share how u color grade the footage, thank you
Thanks😎👍 I guess I could, it's just each new footage I get requires a different approach or grade, so sometimes my workflow changes.
@@ZeekEOSZ that's fine, just share it when u feel like doing so.👍
Nice vid, thanks man!
Thanks for making this video!
No problem at all! 😎👍
Hey Zeek i believe the new anamorphic lens Sirui will be a game changer!
Yeah, hopefully they release it for the EF or EOS M Mount! 😣 Don't know what held them back in the first place. Probably Mount popularity.
Anyway, we'll see! 📽👍
how does it do on a lens that has Autofocus? I see for canon its compatible with their lower end 50mm lenses which have AF.
It's double focus, so once you have the correct focus AF will work.
thanks for the great review !
bro, im using BMPCC4K and 25mm SLR magic T0.95 for M43 which is equivalent around 50mm on fullframe ?
will it works great with this anamorphic adapter ?
Heck yeah! 😎👍
and how you focusing with this adapter ?
do you needed a Single Focus ?
This adapter is double focus, but it's pretty easy once you get used to it.
This looks awesome. I appreciate the footages. I'm wondering if it's something that can be used with the Sony ZV1 which has a 52mm filter thread and a 24-75mm equivalent lens.
Yes it sure can. Lol, I've used it on my basic phone camera. Really love this Adapter, still use it.
great video! can you tell me whether this would work with a sony zeiss 55 1.8 on a full frame?
Hi, great video. One question; I have the same smc pemtax 28mm lens, will this adapter be okay with that? Thanks
Yes, but it depends more on the camera you're using. The Pentax has a 49mm filter thread. It would be fine on Aps-c, more tricky with Aps-c, the glass diameter would need to be less than 40mm.
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks 🙏
Hello, thank you very much for great information.
Can I ask you two questions?
I use bmpcc 6k and Ef mount lens. Which SLR anamorphoto 1.33 do you recommend more,40 or 50?
Also, if you have any favorite lenses, please let me know. I use canon but considering buying sigma.
No problem 👍
40 version means you need lenses with smaller glass, 50 means you can use lenses that have no more bigger than 50mm glass diameter otherwise they will have distortion.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks a lot for your advice!! I appreciate them. Now I’m very looking forward to starting shooting with old lenses!! Thank you😊

Nice review, i have sony a7, what lenses will that adapter fit on?
35mm would be minimum. The 35mm FE 2.8 works perfect. Any focal length above that with a 40mm glass diameter should be fine. 👌
Just got the 65. Still trying to get the right angle, so to speak. Did u ever try it out with an AF lens? If so, what was your work plow?;)
Congrats! Yeah the AF is fine, but actually useless with the double focus solution. You need to be the right distance away otherwise focus won't identify you.
Right. This is my conclusion as well;), thanks for getting back to me and keep it up looks amazing
I am considering getting the 40 insted of the 65
I wonder how many people will potentially sun damage their camera sensors especially pointing into the sun for that flare.
This cam cost me $99 so I can afford to ;). Besides, it's not like it's sunny everyday and I don't think Its going to do a big deal, unless you sun bake the sensor 😎👍
Wouldn't you need to focus at infinity for that to happen?
Very nice! Definitely an "add 10 pounds" kind of lens. Do they make 2Xs?
Actually 0.551 Pounds!🤘 They do make 2x stretch Anamoprphic Adapters but at a much higher price and you will need 4:3 Sensor cameras.
hi zeek, i'm just new in cinema thing. well, how you put those big anamorphot into small lens, i mean.. what kind converter to make them fit?
@@ZeekEOSZ i plan to use 7artisans 12mm f2/8, so.. what should i do? 12mm into 40.. is that any converter to applied?
@@eviltroops
The 7Artisans 12mm isn't a good fit as it has a 77m filter thread. The back of the Anamorphot is only 60mm. A good fit would be the 7Artisans 25mm f1.8 which has a 46mm filter thread. Then you get a 46-60mm Step-Up Ring or 46-52mm Step-Up Ring.
@@ZeekEOSZ but in your other video. 25mm 1.8 is just good for portrait and not wide angle. i'm sorry if my question a bit confusing, again, i'm just new in camera thing...
When you use the 25mm with the Anamorphot, the field of view widens. It can be difficult to get wide with these anamorphots.
Looks amazing indeed

hey there, do u think Konica pancake 40mm f1.8 fits this adapter?

Stretch the 16:9 frame down to 80/85% [Y Axis] FCPX. Or, in MLV App, I export the 16:9 clip as a 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio Resolution e.g. 3840x1634

What is the difference between the 40 and 50?
Wow Zeek this looks incredible. Well done. Quick question: Do you use the forced FPS setting? If so, how do you also record audio with your mic while doing it? Thanks!
Thanks!👍
Forced fps in camera or in MLV App? I use fps override only in MCM rewire and not the other modes, there is sound available. If I don't need the sound, then in MLV App I choose fps override which will remove audio.
Zeek in my menu it says that fps override disables audio, but I’m on MCM rewire. Is it because I’m using an older version?
In MLV App, if you choose FPS Override, you cannot export Audio as well. In Camera, with FPS Override, you should be able to get audio as well and it shouldn't be disabled.
Hello why you buy this or 50-1.33? And this adapter work in full frame camera?
Yes this will work with M43, APS-C, and Full Frame. I bought this because it's so much cheaper than the 50 1.33x I got it for $400 which is a good price!
still a fantastic adapter
Do I need do have a 16:9 sensor? I want to use it with a 35mm film camera.
Yes, these are designed for 16:9, otherwise you can shoot with 4:3 and achieve 16:9 in post with this 1.33x adapter.
Just bought the Eos M 15-45 kit lens for use with Magic Lantern and have encountered a strange issue where there are visible red dots in a cross pattern at the centre of video taken with this lens. I have not encountered this problem with my vintage SMC Takumar 55mm even though its using dummy mount adapter. Has anyone experienced this issue?
In MLV App, enable 3x3 chroma smooth on the right top panel.
You can install focus pixel maps as well, so easy to do. There is a forum and video about this:
See reply #688:
www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=16054.675
How would it go on a 11 to 16 wide with the focal length?
As long as the filter thread is 52mm it should fit, otherwise, no. 11-16mm will vignete too if the glass is too big. Glass needs to be less than 40mm [Diameter].
You have to desqueeze the video in post right? You need like a software?

Stupid question, but how's the 50 1.33 different to the 40 1.33? What does the 50 mean? Secondly, can you use an AF lens on it?
With the 50 1.33 you can use lenses with bigger front glass (no greater than 50mm Diameter)
With the 40mm 1.33 (use glass with front Diameter no greater than 40mm).
Yes you can use AF as long as the adapter focus is set correctly.

I had this scope and got rid of it. Couldn't get it to a) stay on the taking lens and b) keep alignment.
Interesting, yes alignment can be difficult, but I just use the 3x3 gride and use a straight wall or corner to nail the adjustment. It's a screwing lock mechanism which works really easily.
@@ZeekEOSZ Yeah the screw lock didn't work well for me. The image was great when I could lock it down. I've been shooting anamorphic for a couple of years so to not be able to lock the lens down to stay on and keep alignment was super frustrating.
