Isn't actual anamorphic lenses gives you kinda more angle of view? by squeezing that picture into frame. If so, then I think that's more important characteristic rather than flares and bokeh.
You're not wrong, but if no one tells you if a lens is anamorphic or anamorfake, I also doubt you can tell them apart! hehehe. There's a test at www.anamorfakeit.com and you can see how well you do! :P
Anamorphic on a Budget I cannot believe it... got a 0/10... any good solutions for a wide anamorfake lens? My understanding is that you cannot use filters like vidatlantic for wider lenses, but have to modify from an aperture level. Love your channel btw, hope you make more vids more frequently!
You can emulate some of that distortion in post. Easily done in after effects with the bezier warp. Obviously, you'll never get all the characteristics of real anamorphics without using real anamorphics, but on a budget, all these things together go a long way.
@@AnamorphicOnABudget Damn, only got one mistake. Don't know where did that come from, guess I did learn something from photography classes and courses

I started with photography and videography a couple years ago, between you, Tito and a few others & my own engineering background, I shoot almost exclusively with vintage lenses (and Manually now) you recommended AND a few I found on my own as well (required modifications with a dremel lol). Thank you for all your excellent work and inspiration!
C'est très complet avec footage à l'appui, bravo ! pour les flares et le bokeh oval ça serait dommage de s'en priver, c'est ce que cherche beaucoup de filmmakers. I didn’t even finish the video and went and bought the Helios addition. I got the 16 blade version for myself. Your video really sold that lens for me on the spot. That dude owes you a kickback for all this exposure.
I liked the DIY solution with vintage lenses more than with native anamorphic lenses. It looks more interesting than with the real ones😏 Helios lenses are great even the 28mm you tested a few month ago. Mine has some haze so at 2.8 it s naturally blurry 😋 except in the central area 🤣 Anamorfake even please me the most
Very in-depth, friend! 👍 I was actually browsing different ways to get an anamorphic look on a budget yesterday. Have you checked out the rainbow flare filters by Schneider? I can't find a real world video on them and was wondering if you would ever do a video on something like them? Very creative style like you enjoy. 😁
It’s not clear to me what to get. I don’t care about so much the flares but I really care about the bokeh but I don’t want the bokeh to have a line through it. Looking for something in the 50-$150 range. I shoot FD lenses
Cool stuff, but the flare effects can be easily and really well done in software... I think the bokeh balls/swirls of the unmodded Helios are already close enough... the visible string would bother me more! ;)
Do you know the lens used in the shinning or in Barry Lyndon. I wonder if you would be able to find a way to make a video using that. Thanks for the video and also you are doing great.
I love the warmth look from Tito F. I would love to find a great anamorphic alternative for BnW photography, but also for a more unique style of oitdoor natural light photography. Thank You For The Video!
I have a Canon t2i and was looking to get maybe the helios lense for it. What kind of adapter would I need for those lense inorder to go for my camera?
Seems you also like vintage Soviet lens))) I may advice you to try Jupiter-8 50mm f2, as pretty interesting portrait lens. Remember that it needs m39 rangefinder adapter, its smaller than m42
Would be nice if a summary with pros and cons world be added after each lens or lens adapter test. I simply couldn't tell which characteristics was supposed to be and which wasn't.
Inspiring - and amazing how many solutions you offer! This video for me is also a great encouragement to use the flair in old lenses I own. In my cupboard there are 2 1950ies portrait lenses from Leica. And 3 Eastern European 50mm lenses waiting to be used. Insofar I actually tried to avoid high contrast situations with them. That feels somehow stupid after watching your videos! I am also flirting with buying some really cheap 35mm glass, preferably something in 39mm screwmount. Such a lens would probably be even more interesting flairwise. What I wonder is inhowfar any of your fake anamorphic suggestions makes sense in my very specific photographic context. One element of anamorphic solution is the panoramic format. If I had the chance to share my content as printouts I would instantly start experimenting. As I only have a chance to share online, panoramic means I am loosing people because the photo is cropped or poorly presented, especially on smartphones. The flares and ovals - interesting experiments. I might get caught by certain looks if I watched your last and this video again. However so far nothing felt like the recent real anamorphic lenses people presented. On top framing is probably very hard as long as I don't own a camera which can preview the final photo. To my knowledge Lumix GH 5 and S5 are the cheapest cameras which offer that. Not in my current budget. Anyway - thanks a lot for your neverending creativity!
Wow excellent video, your presentation of the friendly budget anamorphic lens options was executed to perfection, I thank you for for your hard work in time and showcasing these budget-friendly anamorphic lenses and there want to be cousins with many options of inexpensive modified lenses and those were the questions that stood in my way and thanks to you now I have a direction that I can look forward to achieving that classic anamorphic look with the Boca and the flares with rather stunning results wow makes me look at those imposter anamorphic modified lens is in a whole new way now thank you for your time and sharing this video, well done sir
Bro the helios one is looking sick with the mod, i have 44-2 but i don't have ability to mod it. Is that any save way to make helios lens cinemas without opening the lens ?
Ummm... the purpose of anamorphic lenses is to get more horizontal picture information in the frame, not to put ovals on the screen. Also, lens flares are something to be avoided... that's what flags and lens shades are for.
The line creates the lens flare. An even cheaper method- you can tape a clear fishing line (top to bottom) on your lens hood or end of your lens to get lens flares (but not the oval bokeh)
I do not agree that bokeh and flairs are the only aspect of an anamorphic scope. If that were the case cinematographers would not use a 30K lens. anamorphics create a real eyes view. everything else is secondary.

I just bought a Helios 3 days ago!!!
Which one ?
how much money did you spend?
Amazing results for way less money than the real deal !
You can also buy an anamorphic projection lens and mount it to an 85mm lens. No bokeh lines and you get an exact anamorphic look.
YES... that's what I did in my last videos, i have like 8 different projection lenses to review soon.
the filter and the helios and retro mods are really fine!
I have a Canon t2i and was looking to get maybe the helios lense for it. What kind of adapter would I need for those lense inorder to go for my camera?
Then you have to shoot wide open all the time, light transmission is probably less too. God I wish lenses weren’t so expensive.
Wow! Dreamy footage man! Especially the outdoor shots... 😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Will definitely try the conversion on my helios 44-2! Im using it on a Sony a7ii, does it matter?

The Helios are stunning, but I don`t like the "coffee beans". So maybe modding without the flare string and just the oval.
Would be nice if a summary with pros and cons world be added after each lens or lens adapter test. I simply couldn't tell which characteristics was supposed to be and which wasn't.
