    These Sirui lenses have an uneven squeeze being 1.25x at close focus and only 1.33x at infinity. So it’s probably best to shoot DCI to not loose information on the top and bottom for 2.39:1.
    And people who say 1.33x isn’t anamorphic don’t know what they’re talking about, the Ultra Panavision 70 lenses are 1.25x and they’re some of the most gorgeous lenses ever designed.
    Also The pocket 6K is EF mount.

    • @DamienDemolder
      @DamienDemolder  Год назад +2

      Hi - not a silly question at all. Yes, the 2x crop factor does still apply. So 24mm becomes 48mm, but with the 1.33x anamorphic effect with horizontal angle of view will look like that from a 36mm lens.

    Very informative clip. I use both Lumix and Olympus M4/3rds cameras. You make a good point about the use of M4/3rds with Anamorphic both for video and photos. Just ordered the 24mm lens and looking at a follow focus system either for my gimbal or more likely changing to Zhiyun who have the focus motor. Interesting times for M4/3rds. A lot lighter to carry around than any other system.

    Few comments, the exact desqueeze is not 1.33 but would be 1.333 meaning that in video you will have for UHD 3840x1.333 : 5120x2160 (It is actually 1.33333333....). Second, you will have to be very careful with Sirui as their lenses are not fully M43 compatible and in my case my 24, 35 and 50mm will not be able to focus above 10m (infinity focus is impossible) on my BMPCC4K without dismounting the lens and removing the shims they put it in (I tested in on my 50mm). It work however correctly with my GH5 and GH5s. But it seems that Sirui were a bit on the rush and did not really checked everything.

    • @DamienDemolder
      @DamienDemolder  3 года назад

      I'm not sure anyone is going to type 1.3 recurring into the calculator to find the exact pixel measurements :-) so 1.33x will have to do for now. It is close enough. I've found this lens is sharper close-up than for distant subjects but not that it won't focus at infinity. I shall do some more checks on that though. Thanks for your comments.

    • @GayBoucheryGonzague
      @GayBoucheryGonzague 3 года назад

      @@DamienDemolder Granted, but if you do not add at least a 3rd 3 you will missing some pixel when you edit in 5120 or like many people out there will create a 5107 large screen that some NLE (Resolve) will not support correctly at export. So when doing something better do it right, or not doing it at all ;-)
      It will infinity focus in GH5 and GH5s, not on some other M43 cameras such as the BMPCC4K. I am actually trying to have this fix with Sirui now.

    What exactly does the "anamorphic mode" do, when you still need an external monitor for de-squeezing?

    • @DamienDemolder
      @DamienDemolder  2 года назад +2

      It allows you to record using a 4:3 aspect ratio - the whole of the sensor - instead of the usual 16:9 that you get in movie mode. You won't need an external monitor to desqueese as Lumix cameras have a desqueese display mode too. You just match it to the lens.

    Great video! I'm new to anamorphic. Just got the Sirui 24mm and would like to know that settings to you use on the GH5. I find that using the 4:3 anamorphic mode the 1.33 desqueeze, disqueezes the image way too much. It looks good when turning off the anamorphic mode.

    • @DamienDemolder
      @DamienDemolder  3 года назад +1

      Yes, the GH5 only has one desqueeze setting when you use Anamorphic Mode which is for 2x lenses. It gives you an idea of composition though, while not really being ideal. When you shoot in regular 16:9 mode though and switch on the desequeeze preview you get a 1.33x desqueeze. The newer S cameras offer 5 desqueeze preview options, so hopefully that will come to GH models via firmware at some stage.

    • @newtonfall1
      @newtonfall1 3 года назад +1

      @@DamienDemolder Thank you. One last followup question. Though the GH5 desqueeze does not provide a correct aspect ratio for previewing in anamorphic mode, does it output correctly in anamorphic for editing?

    • @DamienDemolder
      @DamienDemolder  3 года назад

      @@newtonfall1 Yes, the preview is just a preview - it doesn't alter the aspect ratio of the footage recorded. So, if you shoot in Anamorphic Mode it will output 4:3 but if you record in the regular video modes you'll get 16:9. Both then need to be desqueezed in software. Anamorphic 4:3 footage desqeezes to 16:9, and 16:9 footage desqueezes to 1.35:1.
