    Thank you always for creating and sharing this type of content! I already have the 50mm and 35mm and ordered this 24mm to make the anamorphic set more complete. I agree with the hope of a longer future lens with a decent minimum focusing distance. I also ordered this lens to complete the set hoping they will all match closely in color. I haven't run the test yet between the 35mm and 50mm, but I guess I'll wait until I receive the 24mm and check it out. I'm not a great colorist and I find matching color in post production very tedious. It'll be nice to not worry about color matching between lenses.
    Some other nuances to add to the MFT conversation: For the GH5s shooters, the sensor is actually larger than MFT. So if you choose to shoot in C4K mode instead of anamorphic, your crop factor is 1.8 and you should get ~32.5mm in your horizontal field of view. You do sacrifice some vertical real estate (i'm not sure what is the final effective field of view will be).
    To commenters talking about not a special feel about this lens, I found when using a 0.64x focal reducer on my GH5s, my anamorfake'd Helios has practically the same frame width. So conceptually, one could make an equivalent anamorfake'd lens speedboosted to your favorite mirrorless camera. Personally, I'm interested in trying this out on vintage Nikon lenses, but haven't worked up the courage to buy a set to then subsequently mod. At least we know an expert on modding lenses 😎

      Thank you for the long comment, Jon! And also very cool thinking with using C4K instead of regular 4K for some extra width in aspect ratio!
      I'm always one for anamorfaking, so, I can't disagree with you on that! hahaha

    I’m planing to get the 24 and 50mm for my GH5s. I l don’t really see much use in the 35mm on my GH5s since I’m more of a wide angle guy and I love the look I get with the SLR Magic 50 1.33 and my Veydra 25mm. I’m really exited to hear that you’re working on a cine ring solution.

    • @StephanWahlen
      @StephanWahlen 3 года назад

      just be aware, that this 24mm will be quite a lot (1.33x) wider than the veydra 25mm. Its image as wide as a spherical 18mm lens (though not as high, of course).

    • @VariTimo
      @VariTimo 3 года назад +1

      @@StephanWahlen The Veydra has a 1.33 anamorphic adapter attached.
      I just bought a SLR Magic 21mm T1.6 spherical lens because I’ve noticed that 25mm is too tight for how close I want to be to the actors (I love spherical too).
      With the 1.33 anamorphic: the 24mm would be my go to lens for most shots with the 50mm for close-ups. This is a generalization of course, some shots need long lenses and others wides. It’s just what feels right for most scenes for me.
      I could even go for a 15mm 1.33 lens to be honest. I loved the way the 1.33 moondoglabs adapter looked on my iPhone 7 Plus.
      I’m not a fan of being super close to the actors with very wide lenses tho. I like thinks to be somewhat “natural” looking.

    So besides the lens mount options this APS-C Sirui is an identical build, right? Could the mounts be easily switched with a third party one? Currently I'm working on M43, but I'm considering switching to another mount in 1-2 years without having to purchase a whole Sirui set again. Surely there must be some customizing options here? This concerns all 3 anamorphic lenses Sirui released so far.
    Also, not quite sure which lens to start with. The 24mm would make sense for a MFT, being almost a portrait at 48mm, but too bad it has an almost distracting amount of blue flares. I love those every now and then, but if they are constant it moves into Abrams Star Trek territory.

    Hey Tito, if price doesn't matter, would you pick this or the 28mm T2.2 Vazen? The Vazen is wider because of the 1.8x squeeze but I think the FOV seem pretty comparable, how does the 2 compare overall and specifically in Sharpness/CA? I'm personally drawn to the Variable Astigmatizer focusing but am on the fence due to Vazen's CA.

    We've got a little issue here with our 24 & 50mm lenses, both with MFT mount. We want them to use on a BMPCC 4k, which we'll buy soon. For the B Cam we already tried a Sony a6500 with an E-Mount to MFT mount adapter. The 50mm is really wiggly and lose on the adapter, whereas the 24mm won't fit over the mount at all. Pretty sure the lens bayonet diameters have a clear difference. Or is the adapter the problem?

I'm really excited to use my 24mm but I really hope there's a way to avoid having to zoom every time! Based on your question I believe they didn't change this behavior in the A7s3. The best solution I found was to keep the camera on all the time and power it from external batteries that'll last way longer.

    highly recommend S35 cameras to work with these lenses, Sirui defines this series for "M43" cameras, so does Vazen! they made the image circle clearly s35, but tell people to use it as M43, because they want u to use the middle of the glass, so the sharpness could go up~~~i personally feel anamorphic lenses have nothing to do with sharpness except that failed Zeiss master anamorphic lol, the edge of the anamorphic glass is where the charm at: strong distortion, edge blur, coma and some vertical and horizontal bokeh cutoff if the front glass is square, also wider!!!

I'm either gonna get the 35 and the 75 or the 24 and the 50. No matter what, I know they look really beautiful, and I know I'll have great coverage either way. A 24mm is a 24mm. On MFT crop, it's equivalent to a 48mm on Full Frame, or 36mm on APS-C. But because of the anamorphic compression, that value is divided by 1.33.

      @@AnamorphicOnABudget Thanks. That's what I kinda figured. So the 24mm is 50mm full-frame equivalent so it's not that wide. Maybe because I consider 9mm-24mm full-frame FOV wide lenses. Unless I am misunderstanding it all.

    I’m really interested in this lens as I have the 35 and 50 already. I use it with a GH5 and I still find the 35 too long in certain situations. I would love to see a field of view comparison of all three lenses on a mtf mount.
    Also a quick question. One reason why I’m a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on the 24 mm, I’m not sure what camera system I’ll be using say, a year from now. If I decide to switch over to a Sony mirrorless , or a canon mirrorless, will I be able to adapt these lenses to those mounts? I know that these lenses only cover APS-c, but that’s fine. I’m just worried that I won’t be able to effectively adapt these micro 4/3 anamorphic lenses to a possible future Sony, or canon body.

      Hey Ben! I can see the struggle about a change in camera systems. Sirui offers their lenses in E-mount too, so worst case it'll come to selling all the Siruis you have and buy them again in another mount. The flange for most mirrorless systems is pretty similar, so making adapters is quite tough.

    Question.
    If I use a 50mm lens with 0.8x diy single focus unit, and a .71 speedbooster. Is my math work out correctly that it is effectively a 28mm focus length?

    • @AnamorphicOnABudget
      @AnamorphicOnABudget  3 года назад

      When you say "50mm" do you mean Sirui's 50mm, or a spherical 50mm? I ask because Sirui's 50mm won't be compatible with a focal reducer (speedbooster), and neither a sperical 50mm nor Sirui's 50mm won't need a single focus solution.
