Active Recovery to Relieve Muscle Soreness Fast | Low Impact Walk growwithjo

  • Recovery is so important! It is often overlooked because its sometimes challenging when you are on a roll to take a day off. But that is when the muscle growth happens and when your body is able to catch up to all the hard work that you put in.
    Did you know that if you're not recovering properly, you may not be able to see the results that you want to see? While you exercise, muscle is being broken down and gets tiny tears in them. Its in the recovery that it is being built back up and your body is making it easier for you to make progress.
    So next time you are questioning whether you should take a rest day, the fact that you are questioning it may mean that its time!
    Todays routine is for those days where you want to rest but you also feel the need to move your body, get the blood flowing, and stretch out the soreness.
    A couple other ideas to help reduce soreness:
    Epsom salt bath - this is great even to help your muscles relax so that you can sleep better at night
    Contrast shower - taking the last 5 minutes of your shower to alternate between hot and cold (concentrating the shower head on the area of your body that is most sore) - this helps bring more blood flow to the region and helps flush out the soreness.
    Drink more water - this one is the most underrated but your muscles and body need lots of water to recover and bounce back. Drink lots of water when you start to feel soreness coming on
    Increase your protein - when you increase your dietary protein, this provides your muscles with the fuel they need to build back up!
    Sleep - do your best to get 6-8 hours of sleep at night for proper recovery and ultimate release of growth hormone! This will help you recover, help your muscles grow, and help your metabolism!

    78 year old, loving your routines. arms, abs and cool down with more as I progressL. love you Jo, so cheerful and at least useful exercise which makes me sweat while I enjoy it..... showing results already,. off for a cold drink and shower.

    This is EXACTLY what I needed today! I’ve committed to working out 5 days a week. Today was every bit of hump day for me. I went to Costco and you know how heavy that stuff can get. Carried all that stuff in, later took a nap. Promising myself I was going to do some kind of moving before I went to bed for the night. Cut to me waking up and being really sore, I mean really. But I still wanted to do SOMETHING. Scrolling through all Jo’s videos, I found this gem. Everything from the calming movements, to the music (👌🏾), to the lighting and lastly the cutest pup ever hanging out and standing up?!😂 Vibes? Immaculate.     I don’t know if you consider this video a workout but I’m so grateful for it. I have endometriosis and it’s hard for me to workout right before my period starts and while I’m on it and this has helped soooo much with working up a small sweat and being active! I normally never comment but I appreciate your content so much Jo!

    My biggest step towards practicing recovery is to drink plenty of water! I also like to add bedtime yoga routines before bed to help stretch out those sore muscles. I loved the morning mobility video from this week. I can't wait to see this one! I will probably add it to my weekly workouts.

      I relate to this! I have fibromyalgia and I've noticed doing yoga every day really helps me get less sore after jo's workouts! And i recently started doing bedtime yoga too and i feel so much better! Keep up the good work 🙏

    Two days ago I fell off the stairs (luckily all good, only have a big bruise on my 🍑 which didn't let me walk as good as before) and I took these days to rest. Today I told me "i'll try to do a low impact workout and I already know which one I am going to do". This one!       Amazing!!~~ I recommend checking out (everything, honestly, lol, but), for sure, any of her "dance videos" to keep you and the family upbeat and super engaged--especially when you're not as motivated to get to it. That's what worked for me when I first started this journey (and kudos/gratitudes to Jo!! I'll never go back to anyone else; whereas, she's spoiled me with her charisma and the ease in which she pushes us through the mundane!!) 😁🥰❤ Oh, and remember: getting up and doing 5-15 minutes is better than not getting up at all~♡~ All the luck 💕

    I started working out a few days ago and I made a big mistake by starting with a HIIT leg day, it was great but then when my muscles cooled down, my thighs were extremely sore, and I could barely walk or sit on the toilet seat. I wanted to continue my workout but I couldn't find a good one without push-ups or sitting on the floor. But your video definitely made my morning! In the beginning thought it was super easy and could finish it without any effort, but I ended up sweating and most of all super HAPPY! I felt a bit my thighs burning when I had to lift them but it was also enjoyable! So thanks a lot for your guidance, your joy, and for sticking to a real active recovery workout as mentioned in the title! I'm definitely following your page! Looks great. Keep up the good work

    On my rest days I usually go for a walk in the park so I'm still moving. Definitely will be adding this to my routine, especially for those days when I'm unable to go out. Thanks so much Jo

    After a week of kiddos being super sick and still managing my daily workouts I was super sore and unmotivated, thus video helped 100%. Please do more recovery videos!     Thank you . As I am now retired, I've just gotten into exercising. I did this video every morning for a week. Now as soon as it is going into the cool down, I restart it and do it again. I'm starting to really feel good again. After my 2 weeks, I'm going to go onto one that is a little bit more challenging. You are so much fun to work out with. (luv your furbaby).

    Doing this one this morning and tonight as a light fill in for the 3 mile walkoff! I really thought I couldnt do anything today, but here I am, did the 15 minutes and plan to do it again, amazing how much your body surprises you when you put it to work!!

      I totally agree!! Jo, this and all of your other workouts, are aTOTAL blessing to me. I'm 53...soon to be 54, in September, and considerably overweight. Thankfully, I'm still able to dress my "curves, hills and valleys" in flattering ways!! Lol lol That being said, I want to be healthy and fit and your workouts have been a Godsend. I had no gumption today and my back, hips and legs were so tight and hurting. My mindset has also not been what it should be and I've been feeling defeated and unmotivated. I sincerely thank you for your ministry. I pray the Lord's richest blessings for you and your family.💕 -- Anyway, with your videos and sticking to my modified fast days, twice per week... I'll get to the healthy and fit place that I long for.

    10/10/23 I wish more workouts like this existed. This is perfect for those days when you just can't, but know you NEED to. Gentle, but still gets you moving, and you are proud of yourself when it's over because you got up and did it. Not only are your workouts good for the body, Jo, they are good for the soul too.

    I'm getting back into my growwithjo era after taking a couple of months off. I worked out 4 days in a row this week and i am FEELIN it. so happy to have workouts like this so I can take a little break but still feel good about moving my body :)

    Luv it ...need another one like this video..love your low impact videos right now especially in recovery from the c...d and im still experiencing fatigue/ body aches but these low impact workouts has definitely help me a lot ..and keep me moving ..Im taking it slow and I can now to 15 to 20 exercises

    I really needed this! Today was upper body day and I was already feeling sore because of Tuesday's upper day and I was not feeling. I pushed through and got it done but I knew I needed something for active recovery and you come out with this! Perfect timing. It really calmed me down and I feel so much more relaxed.     I couldn't wait for this video to be over for me to give this review. Wow, I feel new again. For two days now I have been stressed because I have to deal with so many things including my daughter who had an injury as a result of a brain tumor surgery with some malfunctions, in all, I still had my workout routine on Jo' app and come on here to look for a video to ease off tensions and recovery and I found this. Thank you, coach Jo. You're indeed God sent in this regard. I will always refer to this video for full recovery especially before bedtime🙏

    Hi! Just wanted to say I enjoy the recovery work out a lot. Because I've been pushing myself by incorporating waits over the last few days and I was definitely feeling sore. Sometimes I don't totally enjoy your music so I turn it down where I can't hear it but I promise you I always turn the volume up nice and loud so I can hear your encouragement at the end of every workout. 🎉🎉🎉 Thank you for the great workout and the encouraging words that keep me going. ❤ Love you guys, GWJ fam!!!     Loved this recovery workout. I got covid this week and felt so defeated that I missed some of the workouts in the glow challenge, but I finally caught up today! And I realized, especially after reading the caption, that the rest was extra needed for my body to bounce back. I definitely need to up my water intake and the liquid iv hydration packs have really been helping me out! I'm grateful to be feeling a lot better and even more grateful that I have your app and workouts to help me get back into it! ❤ Thank you for the valuable information!

    Recovery walk rules!! I have done this so many times! Anytime I’m too sore, too tired, while healing my tattoo (workouts no allowed), after illness leading back into workout days. Or suggest it to anyone who may be scared to begin…. It’s a great way to just move and introduce mobility after any immobile time. Lots of gratitude to Jo, Bentley and her crew! 🤍

    i was SORE AF whenever i challenged myself to 1 day a week of doing 3 of your workout vids so this one is a LIFESAVER on my sore days. tho it's still hard to do, but i pushed through. and made it to the end!!
