I've watched this live version so many times and it just never gets old. One of if not the best live performances I've ever seen. Never seen it b4 the last year
No sign of strain whatsoever in his face or body. No modern tech or special effects. Not done in a studio. Just stand up in front of a live audience (which included his mother who he said he was nervous about performing in front of) and belt it out and then scale it up in the finale to those sky high notes (which are uncharted territory for male performers) with a gentle bite of his lip at the very end which said, “yeah, that’s a take.” I imagine Mom was proud and the ladies there were dropping off room keys. 🔑
After almost sixty years, Bobby Hatfield can still make the girls swoon. It was sweet watching you tear up, and that big sigh. I would guess you've never heard an old-school love song sung like this. No edgy posturing, no tawdry sex, just pure heartfelt emotion.
Many decades ago I took my date to a Righteous Brothers concert and Bobby Hatfield was amazing with this song at that time. Both him and Bill Medley were outstanding! Sadly, Bobby passed away in 2003. On another note, we both have the same first and middle names.
3 DAYS LATER, 3 WEEKS LATER, 3 MONTHS LATER I AM STILL THINKING OF BOBBYS PERFORMANCE AND SHILOH'S REACTION AND PRESENCE . BOTH SHE AND BOBBY ARE BEAUTIFUL
This was a live performance on the Andy Williams show there were no do overs just his amazing voice and a small microphone .Many artists before and after him have done this song but no one will ever come close to Bobby's performance. It was effortless, smooth and sheer perfection. HE OWNS THIS SONG.Many fell in love to this song and with him he was the whole package ❤ 📦.
Thanks!! Wife and I danced to this and other Righteous Brothers Songs out side in the parking lot when we were denied admittance to my Graduation Dance.. The songs made the world around us disappear... Music is the answer. When it brings tears.... Then you are truly being honest...
Although listed as a Righteous Brothers recording, it is actually a solo by Bobby Hatfield of a throwaway song. The duo agreed to record one solo song for each album. Both wanted to record it but Hatfield won the coin toss. It was released as the B-Side of "Hung On You" but radio chose to play Unchained Melody, a cover of a song first recorded in 1955. Their producer Phil Spector would deliberately place a throwaway song not intended for airplay as B-Sides. Spector went nuts, calling radio stations demanding they stop playing it. Although Spector is credited as its producer, Bill Medley says he produced it. Spector produced singles & he let Medley produce album cuts or flip sides.
As terrible as I am at singing, I sang this to a girl I had a crush on once. I'm sure I heard dogs howling in the distance as I progressed. Anyway, long story short she's now my wife. Gentlemen... take note.
made me cry the first time i heard it...................now,I only have chills.....every time I hear it...No song, before or since has this effect on me..........I suspect I have too much estrogen in me..............
It's Priceless seeing younger ppl watch these songs so many of us grew up on. To see your reactions brings a new found appreciation for the truly great music we had. makes a fellah feel so young again. thanx for that.
Loved your reaction to my favourite performance ever! Romantic, beautiful, pure ..Bobby Hatfield pouring out his soul with the voice of an angel! Never fails to give me chills and evoke depth of emotion. RIP Bobby Hatfield
An amazing song from a time when people dressed well, sang from the heart about love and not sex, and put real feeling and emotion in a song. No special effects, no autotune just an amazing voice. I’m sure you would like heart and soul and you lost that loving feeling from the righteous Brothers. This was one of their solos and they flipped a coin to see who was going to do it and Bobby Hatfield won the toss and his partner Bill Medley who is the baritone said he was glad he won because he doesn’t think he could’ve done it any better. Great review!
With the older movie you are probably thinking of the 1990 film 'Ghost. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. It is more of a love story than scary! When it came out it re-popularized this beautiful classic and played in it and often throughout the movie the background music played is the theme to this song ❤
Hard to believe a human could do this from a Cold Start ! If there was any justice,Bobby would have lived to 150............and still singlike this....
Fact Bobby Hatfield never had a singing lesson in his life and still had 5 octives in his vocal range whuch he does all 5 at the end if this performance. Before Bobby recorded this song him and Bill Medley tossed a coin to see who would record Unchained Melody. Bobby won. Also their name " The Rightous Brothers" was actually given to them whe they were performing at an all black club back in 60s when seg2 was still heavy. After they had finished performing a song one of the male patrons had stood up during the applause and said "you are rightous brothers" bith Bill and Bobby had reiterated this during interviews.
A few errors in comments, but not serious: it was Black marines at an El Toro Marine base who called out "Thzt was Righteous, brothers.". They kept thè name in part because they "sounded Black" because of the ,Soul
I remember hearing this song often in the 60s. I've always loved it. The song was highlighted in the 1990 movie Ghost starring Patrick Swayze, Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore.
A man, a microphone, and a voice. Pure raw talent at peak performance. I actually saw the Righteous Brothers in Kansas City, Missouri in Sep. of 1974. They were incredible and of course, Bobby nailed this one and the women were all overheated. It was an amazing outdoor show and hot!
I can't see where a more honest and emotional review could ever happen. Your visceral reaction you had speaks volumes to your ability to connect to music as it is intended to be connected to. I watch and watch again this video of you and this song. It brings happiness to my soul and a smile to my face. Thank you, keep being you.
I am a 62 year old male and literally have heard this 100s of times and have tears ever time I hear it. It is the most beautiful romantic song of all time. IMHO Thanks! Your reaction is beautiful also as is most other reactions I've seen
This song and performance has been sweeping women off of their feet for over 50 years. It is a wonderful song. The Righteous Brothers Could deliver like few if any others could. The contrast between their voices - Bobbie sang the high parts and Bill the low/bass parts. I have heard that Unchained Melody is one of the most played songs EVER. One of the best parts of my life is that when I was a young'n This was the music on TV and the radio. No auto-tune, no fancy studio tricks. Just two men with an amazing amount of talent and skill. Trust me these guys could sing......
This rendition is hands down the best because of of the quality, range, and modulations of his voice. And remember back in 1955, no sophisticated electronic filters existed to mask or enhance the voice--you had to have real talent; which Bobby hatfield had.
Somehow it's very rewarding to see young people - you could be my granddaughter - being moved by one of the greatest live performances ever of a true love song. At the moment, there's no such music any more. But who knows, if enough young people rediscover these songs, perhaps we will witness a revival of real music - and real singing.
I was a little girl when this song came out, have heard it all my life. And still tear up and get goose bumps when I hear it. I believe this is the most popular bride and groom first dance song over the decades.
Me, too, but this live version beats the pants off of the record. I was 6 at the time, & it is "our song" with my beloved husband. This will be played at my funeral, just like it was at my wedding. ❤
It is always fun to watch women's reaction to hearing this the first time. They never know what's coming at them and in the first second you can see them in shock as their heart instantly melts. I can't think of another song at the moment that grabs your emotions so quickly out of the gate as this one.
I love how on the “are you” line near the end, Bobby gives the head nod as he asked it. As if he was speaking to someone in the audience. What a showman! And of course what a voice!
I love to watch your reactions, your smile is great, bright and beautiful, holy cow, I think you closed your mouth maybe once or twice, hahahaha I know, it's great to find music you never knew existed,
This song is older than me & it still gives a woman the chills & brings her to tears... very impressive how you feel these songs & let them hit you...😎😎😎
Your reaction to this was priceless my Dear. Every man on the planet wishes that he could for his women what Bobby did here for every women. It must rank right up there as one of the smoothest songs ever recorded.
It is such a joy to watch a young person react to our great music from the 50's and 60's. We loved it back then as much as you did in this reaction. Thanks for sharing.
Three days later and I’m still thinking about this phenomenal performance ✨💕🥰
And remember, this was done live with ZERO technical help!
No autotune at all..I love this song
I've watched this live version so many times and it just never gets old. One of if not the best live performances I've ever seen. Never seen it b4 the last year
No sign of strain whatsoever in his face or body. No modern tech or special effects. Not done in a studio. This song is unforgetable
I loved his little smile at the end. He knew he had killed it
And his little lip bite was the old style mic drop, NAILED IT!
Lol that was for the ladies!
No , he blew it,,, he changed notes too many times and the band didn’t know!
His folks were in the audience and he knew he nailed it !!
He knew he had given the performance of his life, a performance for the ages, as the comments here and elsewhere all prove.
This man is personally responsible for about 10% of the earth's population today.

Lol

Personal comment of the week
..... and he didn't even break a sweat, that ladies and gentlemen is true talent.
RIP Bobby Hatfield!! When this comes on the radio, I turn it way up!! Thank you for reviewing it!
From what I have heard he was was one of the nicest people around in the music business.
That’s one of the happiest faces I’ve ever seen watch a piece of music ❤️
I grew up listening to that beautiful song. So here I am, this older guy, watching an Angel listening to it.
Just pure class. Shy, a smile, nod of the head, and the fans were respectful. We have a lot to learn from people back then.
Every woman that I have seen "react" to this performance. . . .melts. No exceptions. They all melt - or swoon.
I'm an admitted melter, although I've been known to swoon every now and then. 😊
replacement carpet afterwards
Bobby is a legend. Haven't heard anyone come close to him 💯💯
After almost sixty years, Bobby Hatfield can still make the girls swoon. It was sweet watching you tear up, and that big sigh. I would guess you've never heard an old-school love song sung like this. No edgy posturing, no tawdry sex, just pure heartfelt emotion.
Yeah, Bobby Hatfield died in 2003. Not making anyone swoon. His partner Bill Medley, who didn't sing on this song, is still alive.

He was talking about his voice and this video
Smart ass
We know he passed away
U don't have to be a downer
ISN´T IT AMAZING?
Barry white has him beat LOL
True said
Great reaction. And thank you for not interrupting the performance continuously like some do. There will never be another like Bobby Hatfield.
Many decades ago I took my date to a Righteous Brothers concert and
Bobby Hatfield was amazing with this song at that time. Both him and
Bill Medley were outstanding! Sadly, Bobby passed away in 2003. On
another note, we both have the same first and middle names.
There was a time when celebrities didn't have digital voice enhancement, and they actually had to hit the notes perfectly. True talent.
and they fucked up, plenty.
I have watched a number of young ladies reacting to this song. I have no doubt that their partners were very glad that they did.
3 DAYS LATER, 3 WEEKS LATER, 3 MONTHS LATER I AM STILL THINKING OF BOBBYS PERFORMANCE AND SHILOH'S REACTION AND PRESENCE . BOTH SHE AND BOBBY ARE BEAUTIFUL
You heard it in the movie The Ghost. This was Mr. Bobby Hatfield, of the Righteeous Brothers. Bill Medley was the deep bass singer of the two singers.
What a sweet reaction to a genuine American classic!
This the greatest thing about being a Music fan. I love all Music! So I don't miss a thing. I've listen to almost everything!
This surely has to go down as one of the finest live vocal performances ever recorded. And all so effortless for Bobby Hatfield.

Music is the answer. When it brings tears.... Then you are truly being honest...
I believe this was sung live, with no auto-tune, and he was worried that he'd mess it up as his parents were in the crowd. Talent, pure talent.
Nothing like it no more for sure
Correct
no shit shirley, they didnt have no got damn auto tune back then!
no auto-tune back then ... auto tune was when you took your car into the garage to have it tuned up!

That is effortless talent. You"re born with this magic.
Bobby's lip bite at the end. Knew he nailed an all time performance. Perfect.
I spent 2 hours watching your reactions. I think you're genuine
Hands down the best live vocal performance you will ever see
This guy had soul! Love it!
Growing up in the sixties.. ladies would say his voice was like velvet.. pulling you in with all his heart and soul!

Perfect singing. I don't think I have ever heard such a perfectly executed performance.
No pre-recorded tracks, no lip-syncing, no backup singers, no dancers. Just pure voice and orchestra keeping perfect time with each other.
Bobby Hatfield ad-libbed the end of this song. He OWNED IT!
It’s great to see another young person enjoy a live performance of a beautiful and transcendent song.
Love the reaction of young people to a classic..:)
Remember, he sang this from a cold start, with no auto tune, it hadn’t been invented yet, and no backing singers to fill vocal gaps.
