The man sang pitch perfect. His tone is beyond anything I've heard from the vocal chord. Playful, elegant, powerful... I can go on. He was vocal virtuoso.
This song was released in 1955 ...Here is another singer Dorothy Collins on Your Hit Parade singing it in 1955 ruclips.net/video/a5RrYduPMf8/видео.html
I can understand completely. My heart goes out to you, my brother. When it comes to pain, physical pain can be supressed, but the kind you're feeling only you can feel & comprehend. God bless you!❤🩹🙏
I rediscovered this song as I cared for my beautiful young wife as she was very ill. She succumbed to her illness and I will miss her until I’ve drawn my final breath. This song, and specifically this rendition, bring me back to those hard times but remind me of the pure love she and I were blessed to share. When he sings “wait for me” I cry every time. Miss you every day Katie. Doing my best with the children. We are so thankful to have had you my darling. Catch up with you when the time is right.
Hmmm. Maybe not, but maybe there are undiscovered talents out there. As for artists, I have seen Chris Isaak several times. I always see him when he tours in my area. He has the greatest range of any singer I have ever heard.
Yes Dimash has enough octaves to destroy the notes but also this song. I can take a scanner, scanner 3D, and I will be able to reproduce Michel Angelo, Vinci, Rembrandt ... Even without a scanner I can reproduce Picasso and Van Gogh. Too late it has already been created.

Bobby could sing anything he wanted to sing, he was that great a singer. This is without doubt the very best song of all time. It's a shame he passed away in 2003, we lost a great singer the day he died. He'll never be replaced.
Many people may not realize that this Andy Williams performance was unique because many of the vocal gymnastics he performed here were not in the recorded version, or the movie, only this particular performance. Amazing...
This performance should have been put on the golden record disc that were put on NASA's Voyager probes launched in 1977 which will last for billions of years.
I lost my dad when I was 1 year old, back in 1992. After his death, my mom had VHS of Ghost and she was watching over and over again, desperetaly wishing that my dad would come like in the movie. After 17 years, i started playing guitar and this was the first song that i learned and played to my mom. I still remember the tears in her eyes as she listened all the way through the song. It sure has a special place in her heart, and mine too. Thanks for reaciting to this masterpiece. Brought me tears at 3 am in the morning. This was an unforgettable moment for me
I was touched by you sharing about the loss of your dad and how you sang to her years later the song she liked so much. I can see that you have a great love for your mother and for the memories of your dad I'm certain she shared with you . I wish you all the best as you journey on in this life.
Dude. Oh my God. I know you wrote this four months ago. But holy shit. I lost my dad in January of 1992 ( I was 4). My mom also had the vhs of Ghost and we watched it soooo much, and this song has ALWAYS reminded me so much of my dad. What a crazy similarity to find with someone else.
Oh thank you, thank you! Bobby Hatfield and I grew up in the same small town (he was one year ahead of me in school). I’ve listened to that marvelous voice since an all classes assembly my second year in senior high school. I haven’t seen this particular video in years. Thank you, thank you. RIP my old friend Bobby.
My wife and I danced to the Righteous Bros music at her Prom. This was one of our favorite songs. We were married for over 53 years until her death in 2018.
No one else should ever be allowed to sing this song. Bobby Hackett owns it. It belongs to him. Singers out there, you can not sing this song, it has already been sung and you will be no match for the singer.
I was born in the 50's grew up in the 60's and 70's, I suppose our generation was spoiled with GREAT music. When you grow up listening to Elvis, Tom Jones, The Temptations, The Supremes, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five, Aretha Franklin, The Guess Who, The Who, The Bee Gees, Marvin Gaye, The Eagles, The Carpenters, Frankie Valli, The Grass Roots and Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley (The Righteous Brothers) along with scores of other AWESOME artists, we were so very fortunate to have grew up during that era and to be blessed with all that incredible music. It was like when you turned on the radio, it was a golden hit, one right after another, after another, after another all day long. As one person on here said, many have done a cover of this song, but Bobby Hatfield will ALWAYS own this song.
Bobby was and will be one of the greatest voices ever. The Righteous Brothers are one of if nothing the greatest duo in history. He sang this effortlessly. A voice of an angel on earth folks. This was our song my wife and I danced to on our wedding.
A God-given vocal talent like Bobby Hatfield comes once in a lifetime. OFTEN imitated, but NEVER surpassed! R.I.P. Bobby, you're singing with your fellow angels once more.
Hi Rebecca. I'm 76 years old and I remember this song very very well. Driving through the country on a beautiful early Sunday morning and the car radio turned up loud. He sang it live on TV, so no studio tom foolery, and in 1965 so no auto tune. He was worried and nervous because his parents were in the live audience and also because he had a slight cold. You can imagine the reactions to that wonderful silky voice and masterful execution. You only have to see Ghost to get the idea. It was said with some humour at the time that the main sound heard after the song was the sound of women undressing.
I will never forget the righteous brothers and this song. It's beautiful ! Bobby sang it the best. No one sings it like him. They were one of the best groups ever, and the best blue-eyed soul in history can beat Bobby singing this song. I miss him. RIP. . Bill, I love you too. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fun fact. Bobby's mom and dad were in the audience that evening and he was a nervous wreck about performing in front of them. He sure hid it well didn't he??
My favourite thing about this performance is the absolute confidence he has that the voice will be there when he needs it, with no fear of failure or safety net needed.
Actually, his mother was in the audience and he later said in interviews that he was very nervous for that reason. But he crushed it anyway! His mother must have been beaming the whole time!
It is Bobby Hatfield singing in Ghost. It was the studio recording they used in the soundtrack. This was a live version, and , if you ask me, this version is even better !!!
@@lucybrown1929 For a live performance this was as close to perfection as you can get imo. I did prefer the studio version when he hits the high note on the last "I need your love" but I love the way he ended the song in this performance...I wish that had been part of the studio recording.
Everyone has moments that are perfect. When a singer with a superb voice and control has such a moment they transcend the worldly realm and sing from the spiritual heart. That is what makes the performance of this song timeless.
I hadn't seen this video or this performance ever - until now. I'm a 64-year-old man sitting here with tears streaming down my face after watching the original video. Your video was on the right as a suggestion and I'm so glad to see I wasn't the only one who got goosebumps seeing it. There will never be another singer, ever, that will come close to matching Bobby Hatfield's performance here. Anyone who knows someone who thinks the hacks on the TV shows like The Voice or America's Got Talent are great, needs to show them this video. This is the Gold Standard.
I am so impressed with this performance. Bobby is just standing there producing a masterpiece. Not some fancy control room tricks, just God talent. This has to be one of the best love songs ever.
@@michaeljones0007 Paul McCartney once said "it's hard to write a hit song today, (90's I think). All the good melodies are already taken. He being the greatest, most successful, most hits, made the most money, songwriter in the history of man. I'm so glad I was around to hear them twice, live. Good luck to the rest.
I've listened to this a hundred times and I still get goose bumps. I am 75 years old and did take some voice lessons in college but could never get anywhere near this level. You mentioned how beautiful the song is. It was written for a 1950s B&W prison movie called "Unchained." The story is about a prisoner who misses his wife very much and wants to be with her. He has an opportunity to escape when he has only a short time left to serve of his sentence but decides not to run but serve out his time. He knew that if he ran he could only spend a brief moment with his love and then have to keep running. A great moral lesson and a great love story, sacrifice a brief moment of pleasure today for a lifetime of love..I guess that is old fashioned.
This was recorded in 1965. Go and have a listen to Paul McCartney's efforts with The Beatles at the same time. Easily the same quality voice, plus a superior musician and legendary world class songwriter. By 25 years of age Paul had made Sgt Peppers, by 26 years of age he'd made Hey Jude, and by 27 years of age, Let It Be and Abbey Road.
I thought the same thing, it was almost like he was just having a casual conversation but that slight expression at the end suggests maybe he knows how others view it.
My brother singing and playing this song on the piano as if my Dad was singing it to my Mom is one of the earliest memories I have following my Dads suicide. Now in my mid-forties and 25 years later, I still cannot listen to this song without getting emotional.
You’ll hear that song for 60+ years, and I swear, he will still give you goosebumps! Not many mention the effortlessness with which he sings. My favorite part of this video is at the end when he bites his lip, and smiles. OMG! Be still my heart! ❤️💕❤️
I have watched any number of women react to this. Without fail, at some point, you can tell that every one of them has that moment where they get lost in the song and feel like someone special is singing that to them personally. I have heard this song so many times and I still get goose bumps when he reaches the line, "Are you still mine?"
The amazing thing is Bobby was only 25 years old here. At 25 is voice was absolutely incredible and so well polished and he makes it look so effortless. I'm always blown away every time I see this video. 0 autotune 0 lip syncing just mesmerizing and beautiful to watch and listen to. One of my all time favorite songs ever. And on of the few covers that is actually better than the original.
Arguably the greatest love song ever written, performed by one of the greatest tenor/alto voices of all time! I think what makes this performance so emotionally pervasive is that Bobby Hatfield gives the impression of potential energy under control...He has us waiting for the impending eruption throughout the performance and unleashes all that pent-up energy at the climactic ending. Absolutely stunning vocal ability and theatrics without ever changing position on stage! I have heard and performed this song countless times and this rendition still gives me chills.
Rebecca, I wish that Bobby was still living today seeing you and other reactors reacting to his singing. As you know, he died in 2003 almost 17 years ago.
So sorry for your loss. My mom died suddenly in May 2012. Her husband of 35+ years, my stepdad, died five weeks to the day after Mom. He told us he refused to live without her. And so he didn’t. I’m an RN. Broken-heart syndrome IS real.
My wife was and I were great fans of the Righteous Brothers. When we became empty nesters we committed to being a coupe again and part of that plan was to see as many of the old time Rock N Roll groups as possible. The Bros were our first live group and the absolute best. Bobby was in his early 60,s then and you could tell the audience was anticipating him hitting the note in Unchained Melody. He took his time and wound himself up when the time came. He got a standing ovation during the song because everybody knew it was not easy for him to do it. We went on to see them 7 more times before he passed. Also, he was very comedic on stage with Bill Medley. Two old pros delivering a great time each time.
IMO- One of the most important points is that he uses the more extreme vocal expressions to punctuate the lyrical message. He fills the hall with a woeful cry of anguish with "I NEED your love!" for a most powerful emotional moment. This is very different from singers who launch into all kinds of vocal fireworks just to show they can do it. It is not over-done, it is not a display of skill. It is true mastery of what music is supposed to be and of what music is supposed to do; convey emotions in a way no other form of communication can. The chills and goosebumps are evidence of this. Yes, you will still experience them again and again every time you hear this performance. It is that good!
I live in Hungary at the moment, and am from UK. My dad passed on mid march this year, and due to the whole pandemic thing, I was unable to physically attend his funeral. This song by The Righteous Brothers was the song my dad chose as his entrance song at the funeral. So I watched that video countless times before attending the live stream of his funeral. Yet even though watching it so many times, when they brought in his coffin and that song started to play , it has to be have been one of the most emotional experiences of my life . It is one hell of a song, and a great choice by my dad x :-)
Lost my wife of 40 years a while ago. Asked a local radio station to play this for her. Still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it. Awesome song!! So much emotion!!
Unfortunately I heard the Studio version and he doesn't go stratospheric on those wonderful high notes at the end of the song - which is a pity. 🇦🇺👏👏👏👏👏
@@elainepearson4817 He goes stratospheric on are you still mine though .. LOL any version sung by the immortal Bobby Hatfield surpasses this stratosphere for me 💘
One of the purest singing voices of all time. The magic of what can be done to aid a voice today will never come close to this man's pure ability. There is talent that you can teach and there is God given talent, this man truly has pure God given talent.
This is SO embarrassing! I keep coming back to this video of Bobby singing UNCHAINED MELODY. What's embarrassing is that my eyes TEAR UP every single time! So beautiful, so evocative, such perfection!
Alex North composed the score in 1954 for a film by the name of "Unchained" and he asked his friend, Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. I personally thank both of them with my entire heart. In my opinion, NO ONE sings it like Bobby did in this performance. Classic.
It was sung in the 1955 movie by African American opera star Todd Duncan, who had a small part in the movie. It actually won an Oscar nomination for Best Song, but didn’t win. Probably because the film was so bad.
I'm quite a burly bloke but makes me cry almost every time I hear this song..and I've heard/watched this song a lot. Bobby Hatfiled ...voice of an angel... sang it better than anyone could possibly have...LIVE.
My Mom was a huge fan and I remember her listening to their music and enjoying his perfect voice. As another man out there I too think his voice is amazing. This version gives me the chills even to this day. His voice is so amazing, it still stands up to this day as one of the most amazing performances by a human. His gift and this performance should be cherished by the human race, period.
Reggie i hea ya brotha. Here i just typed this on a comment a couple minutes ago..... Absofuckinlutely. This goes waaaaaay past the goosebump factor. So many different emotions run through u with this. One's experiences in life..past present and hopefully future. Love..is to be human. U are absolutely right
I love the fact that this video was recorded which preserves this video representation of his voice and what he was able to do with this live performance.
I remember watching this on the Andy Williams show in 1965 I was fifteen. His mom was in the audience that night. When he smiled and bit his lip at the end of the song.He knew he had nailed it for his mom!
You are the professional at analyzing his technique but I love watching women from around the world watch this song for the first time and, within seconds, are completely mesmerized. Amazing to see.
It’s difficult for men to express feelings without insecurity. I think this song has endured this long because the music, his singing and the lyrics say everything that men want to express to our beloved, but can never find the words to tell them.
Men used to when they felt secure in society, know they have to not show weakness, its sad blues, jazz, reggae and soul all male singers sang about losing love or being cheated on, but 90s onwards it ended
Its amazing how a highly professional voice coach watches this video and becomes a puddle on the floor. She certainly is not the only female who melts at the sight of Bobby Hatfield performing this song.
Most perfect live performance ever....it's unexplainable how perfect Bobby Hatfield sang his heart so effortlessly....I can listen to this over and over and totally react emotionally each and every time.
This is, by far, the most beautiful, drop dead sexy, iconic love song ever written, sang, or recorded. This song has been covered so many times, BUT nobody, even ELVIS himself, could ever come close to Bobby Hatfield’s performance. Bobby is still crooning women of all ages to this day, 55 years later. He had the total package, blonde hair, blue eyes, drop dead handsome, and of course THAT VOICE (come on, right there he’s separated from the rest). How many men have blonde hair after the age of 10-12? Until the day I die, and beyond, I will never tire of listening to this song!! It actually makes me believe that true love does exist, ........ well at least for some, lol 😅😂🤣😁😊. I very much love your channel. It makes me happy! Have a Blessed day 🙏
A good man singing a good song - very well. Never thought of this beautiful phenomenon as sexy, sorry - angelic, euphoric, mystical, hopeful, mesmerizing, transformative, transfiguring, uplifting, inspiring,- yes. And yes an attractive man - but never vulgar, which is why Elvis, for all his great talent, could not sing like Bobby.

Of course no auto-tune ...none needed anyways because the guy had what it takes , the best voice possible ! Auto-tune was invented because voices are not like that anymore . The more i grow older the luckier i feel i had the honor to listen to those magnificent songs from that era !

So many reasons to be grateful for our time. Thank you for this list, and saying that just scratched the surface.
Perfect pitch, perfect phrasing, perfect everything, Just an absolute masterclass!

It was said with some humour at the time that the main sound heard after the song was the sound of women undressing.
lol
For me, this particular performance that he did on the Andy Williams Show is particularly the very best.

No one could ever sing it like him. Such a wide vocal range and beautiful voice. Nailed it.

This is the most emotional song by a human voice ever recorded.Leaves me in tears everytime I listen. Memories of loved ones gone.
What i love most about this performance is how effortless it is. He was born to perform.
I thought the same thing, it was almost like he was just having a casual conversation but that slight expression at the end suggests maybe he knows how others view it.
The fact that he did this on mic in front of a crowd, and had no backup was phenomenal.

Grief sucks but you remembering it was sung at their wedding. Priceless.

Shhh,im back in 1960.... on a dark country road falling in love....
It’s difficult for men to express feelings without insecurity. I think this song has endured this long because the music, his singing and the lyrics say everything that men want to express to our beloved, but can never find the words to tell them.
Men used to when they felt secure in society, know they have to not show weakness, its sad blues, jazz, reggae and soul all male singers sang about losing love or being cheated on, but 90s onwards it ended
because the man never truly knows whats in her mind...its why we love em
As a man... This song gets me crying every time. Unrequited love, long distance love... all of it. Heartwrenchingly good.

A good man singing a good song - very well. Never thought of this beautiful phenomenon as sexy, sorry - angelic, euphoric, mystical, hopeful, mesmerizing, transformative, transfiguring, uplifting, inspiring,- yes.
