After the surprising success of the first Resident Evil Revelations, Capcom was guaranteed to follow up, but could it retain the old school feeling? Rev 1 was a great combination of modern RE and old RE styles, so can a new entry deliver on the first game's mission statement with a much larger budget? let's find out!

Revelations 1 & 2 might not be as important now that we have RE7 and the new RE2, but it's were the return to form slowly began.
Rev 1 & 2 came at a bleak time in the franchise when all I had was 5 and 6 and they really weren't cutting it for me. That's why I regard the Revelations games highly despite their flaws.
I watched your original reviews of these two games initially but I'm glad you revisited them as part of this retrospective. Solid work as always.

Indy midgets are garbage yeah I could see that if you didn’t play all the resident evil games. If you did, going from 1 and 0 remake to 4, 5, and 6 and then to the revelations games and then from there to 7, I think you get more of an appreciation of what they tried to do in 7. I was really happy that 7 wasn’t a complete outlast clone. That was my greatest fear at the time

I like the idea of a standalone raid mode if it’s fleshed out and treated as a celebration of RE past. I would love to see the spencer mansion as a map! Revelations 2 is a mirror of Capcom's peak internal struggles and transformations (2012 and 2015). It is a hybrid (albeit a better one than RE6), and luckily the company switched it up and cemented themselves back at the top of the charts with consistently great games (RE7, DmC5, RE2). Let's hope it lasts

  • @Fedor_Kisliakov

Actually, Alex Wesker was mentioned in the Lost in Nightmares in Spenser's memoirs as the last of the Wesker children. She was looking for a way to make Spenser immortal on some island until she betrayed him and vanished with all the data and test subjects. Although I did not really like the whole "Wesker Children" shit, it was cool to see this story arc unfold in Rev 2, and Alex's motivation was pretty good, unlike her looney brother from Resi 5.
Another fun fact is that english localisation made it a slightly different game. In the japanese version, there were no hints about Claire's affection for Niel: she just respected him, that's all. Also, the Barry jokes were absent. But I actually liked these changes. It gave Claire a little depth, and Barry's jokes gave a HOLE lot of fanservice to us. Storywise, Rev 2 is one of the strongest in the series.
Gameplay was fun too. Popping zombies' heads with Barry was especially delightful. And I'm glad you noticed weapons' sound effects. Last time they were good in Resi 3. Now I'd like a sequel to it to find out what's gonna happen to Natalia, since it's clear that Alex has crept her way inside her consciousness.
Are there any Resi games left for you to cover?)

Honestly, the gun sounds really struck me. I'm surprised he didn't mention it, but they were shamefully recycled from RE6, and while they sounded just fine in that game, for a new title, I was hoping for something new in that regard. I thought Rev 1's recycling RE5's gun sounds was due to the technical limitations of the DS or whatever, so that's why I was a bit disappointed. Still love this game and imo, (not having interest in or having played 7) the best game to come out since RE5.

Only titles left (not including the CGI films) are Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps. Though Umbrella Corps might not get covered considering pretty much everything has been said about the game plus it's apparently dead which makes getting a lot of gameplay footage tough since it's multiplayer game.

    • @herptydumpty7659
      @herptydumpty7659 5 лет назад +3

I mean in this specific title. The sounds fit more for RE6 because it was more action based. And on a sidenote, the first hand gun Claire gets uses the 'Nine-Oh-Nine' sound fx from Jake and Chris' campaign pistol in 6, which I couldn't stand. Wish they had used Leon's wingshooters or Helena's Picador. Just small pet peeves.

This was my personal RE7. I really enjoyed this game and hope this is what Resident Evil continues to be more like than what 7 is. Loved the location, monsters, and gameplay.
It wasn't perfect. Didn't like the episodic style (which is hopefully in the past now) and player 2 being unable to fight was a bit annoying compared to how fun 6 was.
But I love Rev 2 way more than 7.

Steve Rudzinski I’m in the same boat honestly. I loved Revelations 2 way more than RE7 gameplay wise but I think it’s also because I have a Claire Redfield bias lol. RE7, although a great game, didn’t fully feel like a RE game to me mostly because of how stiff and boring Ethan was as a character. His lack or reaction to most stuff like getting his arm cut off or seeing a giant bug lady kinda made me less invested in the story. And I enjoyed RE6 as well. I actually still play it now even though I know a lot of people think it’s the absolute worst game ever lol

Billy and Carlos seem to be one off characters that make an appearance and are only playable once then you never hear from them again. They're like sheva. Nikolai is painted as a villain/traitor of sorts so I'm not sure they'd give him his own playable arc since they already have people that kinda fill that slot already Jessica REV 1 and more prominently Ada Wong. Revelations 2 is, again, one of my favorite games of the series (likely due to it being one of the first RE games I really played more than just at a surface level). The music, the atmosphere, the environments, the gameplay, the surprisingly fun partner system, and the cheesy callbacks.. my god the cheesy callbacks. Revelations 2 came at a really rough time in my life, so I would often wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to fall back asleep. At some point I just got annoyed with laying in bed doing nothing or just reading, so I snuck downstairs and played through the whole game on my PC, finishing the game just as the sun came up. It's a really amazing memory to me, and I fell in love with the game as a result. I rememeber having to stifle my laughter a lot whenever Barry said a one liner to not wake up my parents, especially the callback one liners like "Ha! Who's the Master of Unlocking now, huh?!" and "I haaaaave thiiiiiiiis!". Long story short, like the first Revelations game, Revelations 2 holds a special place in my heart.

Rev 2 was such an enjoyable experience for me, i love playing coop games with my sister we've just always have this good synergy when playing, but shes never been into fast paced action games. I never got to play RE5 or 6 with her because of that reason. However when she saw that the other player was more of a support role and i asked for help, it cliqued. It was so much fun to have finally beat a resi game with her. The cinematic approach they took got us hooked too. Even though they released an episode every week it made it feel like the game didnt get too stale and we were able to plan out when to play and always excited for the next one, such a memorable experience we'll never forget.

i own this on ps3 and i had no gameplay issues.
i just REALLY wish they had online coop for story mode. the game already has coop for raid mode (which i didn't care for) and the story was already designed to work with multiple players!
some have said no one would want to play as the little girl since she cannot use weapons. which is silly i played as her most of the time.

Avalanche Reviews I’ll be interested to see what your views are on the Re2 remake are. 2 always holds a fond place in my nostalgia centre as it was the first one I played. I came across it in a monthly issue of PlayStation magazine I was sometimes allowed to get when our shopping with my mum. You’d get a disc with a variety of playable demos on it. One of which was the first 15 minutes of re2. I must of played that 1000’s of times ... getting further and further into the game each . I could play the first section of it with my eyes closed. I do miss some of the old timey things you’d get pre high speed internet. Coming across games by chance ... all the rumours and myths about games that you’d never know if it was true or not. Now everything is a click away. I guess that makes me old. .....

I really loved Revelations 2. Beyond the solid gameplay and setting you covered in your video, I really liked all the funny dialogue and callbacks to the old games. Barry in particular was fantastic and frequently brought a smile to my face. I'd also like to add that the Raid mode minigame for this game is by far my favorite RE mini-game of the series. There's loads of levels, and they even take characters, environments, and enemies from RE5, RE6, and Rev1 and mix them in which was pretty cool. If count raid mode, this is the first game to have Chris, Jill, Claire, and Leon in it, so that's kinda nifty.

This is my second favorite RE game. I know that’ll sound sacrilege to most, but the fact that the whole game is perfectly playable alone or with a friend is just so much fun and value for me.
I've had friends who don’t like scary or even stressful games become fully engaged and interested in the series afterward. Sure, that’s not too big a deal for most fans, but this game stands out for someone who loves games with friends.
I also believe this is the true sequel to RE4 and is vastly, VASTLY superior to 5 and 6.

Hell yeah, good job man! Can't wait for your take on the RE Deck building game!
In all seriousness, I'm with you one Alex Wesker. She's really a character that seems to come out of nowhere. This is because, If I'm not mistaken, her only mention was off of the "Lost in Nightmares" DLC, where Spencer goes in-depth on to what she's working on, on the very island Rev 2 takes place. Of course you have to read A LOT of shit to even find that. Which was one of my biggest complaints about 5. All it's great story beats where wrapped up in files that nobody wanted to read because you're playing a co-op action game. You'd think Alex would have been a bigger deal too. In any case, I'm pretty much with you 100% percent on this game. It's a very up and down experience.
Can't wait to see your next project. I got money on the next big one you do, after a few "Trashed Classics" to wind down from this, will be "Silent Hill" with a small side bet on a low odds "Dead Space.'

But you get to play as him and to know that he works for the bsaa as well made me feel relieved that they didn't forget about him. Having him come in looking for his daughter wielding his iconic revolver and modified S.T.A.R.S. Beretta was great and funny that his had those two guns for many years. I do wonder if they are going to continue this series since the ending sort of hinted that. as always great video Jared and look forward to the next.

My thoughts. The story was fine, the mechanics were fine, besides Barry being the best, the characters were ok. There’s a bit of weaponry to choose from, enemy variety is heavily limited, boss fights were not good. The endings I wasn’t very fond of, and like Revelations 1 the story is unfinished and ends with another cliffhanger and we don’t have a clue if it’ll lead anywhere.
Overall I like the game and I had fun, and I want Capcom to wrap up the Revelations 1 and 2 stories.
What happened to Jessica? What happened with Raymond? How will Barry and his family take action when they find out Natalia has successfully became Alex Wesker? I need to know what happened.

This is the first Resident Evil game in the franchise where Alyson Court does not provide the voice for Claire Redfield. She was replaced by "James Baker" (an alias for Ali Hillis). Court has stated she wasn't contacted by Capcom about reprising the character or even informed about her replacement, and that she would have loved to return to voice Claire stating the character had become a part of her over the many years.
Takes place between the events of Resident Evil 5 (2009) and Resident Evil 6 (2012).
Oddly, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 was never released for the Nintendo 3DS even though that was the original platform the first Revelations was developed for and released on. Revelations 2 is available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS Vita, and PC.
This is the second game in the series to use the Uroboros virus as a plot element (first being Resident Evil 5 (2009)). However, this is the first game to analyze the effects of a successful merging, as well as using it to make B.O.W.s.
As the English voice recording was not done with a SAG-AFTRA approved contract, most of the American voice actors were using pseudonyms or at least similar versions of their names in order to distance themselves from their union-approved work.
This sequel to Resident Evil: Revelations (2012) actually has little to do with that game in the narrative sense, apart from some references to the Terragrigia Panic introduced in the first game. However, they are connected by tone and structure. Both Revelations games take place between two main entries; they both follow an episodic structure with previews to previous episodes; both alternate between two storylines that occur at different time periods and feature different protagonists; the gameplay of both games is focused strongly on discovering objects hidden in dark places, and harken back to the series' survival-horror roots; and they both feature an arcade style "Raid Mode" unique to this sub-series.
This is the second game in the series in which the active part starts with Claire Redfield waking up in and being released from a prison, after Resident Evil: Code: Veronica (2000).
First game to show Albert Wesker's twin Alex Wesker.
There are two endings to Revelations 2: the good (canon) ending and the bad ending. In episode 3 during Claire's section, the choice made during the boss fight with Neil decides how the game ends: if Claire is the one to deliver the killing shot, then the bad ending will take place. If Moira is the one to deliver the shot, then she will overcome her aversion to guns and aid her father Barry in the finale, leading to the good ending.

I played Rev2 with my nephew with me as Moira and Natalia handling support and item finding/weakpoint duties. We got to enjoy the story together, enjoy the jump between storylines and had a great time going between puzzles and combat. The episodic nature set a good place to start and end our gameplay sessions and there's multiple extra side-stories to try after you're done with the main story. Raid mode was also a really good time single or two-player.
If you get the chance to play this two-player I would suggest it.

Avalanche Reviews Even if the gameplay doesn't appeal to you, I still think you'll enjoy the game. All the characters are extremely well written and the plot is of similar quality, so I'd recommend this game based on those alone. Plus, the drink mixing system in the game works extremely well. Instead of selecting from a bunch of choices like a normal visual novel, character dialogue is influenced by what kind of drinks you serve up. I'd recommend giving it a pirate at the very least, or if you don't want to pirate you can give the free prologue a shot.

When I purchased Revelations 2, I found that the atmosphere of this game was much more terrifying and scary in regards to a bit more cartoonish action in Revelations 1 and with some off the wall characters and a bit back and forth and confusing set pieces in regards to story. I found that revelations 2 was much more simplistic and grounded in the story and didn't feel that confusing. I really do hope they continue the revelations storyline, whether it be from 1 or 2 because both has potential for sequels. If I had to choose either, I liked revelations 2 in regards to gameplay and replayability. Another great review man, keep it up. Literally playing this game as a warmup for RE4R...man is it a challenge. Will be on this one for a long time till Capcom releases the DLCs for 4 Remake...the writing and storyline for this entry are terrific!

Y'know rent's note due until the 1st of the month, so I'll go ahead & bump myself up to $5. xoxo

I'm waiting to see a new comment on this next month saying "well, I got kicked out for being 5$ short on the rent" HA! Thanks man!
