    Maybe you've heard about Operation Raccoon city, and how it may be the worst game ever released in the Resident Evil series..... Well.....that's both true and not true at the same time. It's complicated!

      @AthenisKS81 5 лет назад +13

      That was my issue. They were sneaky about it, saying it was part of the game, but only the first tiny bit was there. Then the two "expansions" had to be bought at $10 each to finish the game, which I have not once seen put on sale. Since Capcom puts RE stuff on sale every other week, I'd guess it is the devs with the distribution rights and Capcom has never tried to get them because they don't want them. Calling them expansions is a joke anyway since the main story has a super abrupt stopping point if you don't fork over for the content that should have been included. It would be like if they had released Revelations 2 as Claire/Moira only, then Barry/Natalia later for more money. Or leaving out all of Chris' part in Code Veronica unless you paid more.

Their stun attack is what makes them dangerous if you're dealing with other enemy types at the same time. The thing with Ada is not so much a boss fight, but rather a scripted event. Speaking of Nemesis, you encounter him multiple times in the Spec Ops campaign and he will be invincible until you reach a certain point where he will be able to take damage, which will take a while.

      Listen to me, I bought it 3 months after release during free weekend on Steam, campaign wasn't really interesting but it actually had sense, also some awesome lore. Multiplayer had nothing of RE except maps, but it was very dynamic. For 2 years I've been playing with other RE fans on Steam group to get a platinum. Guess what? If you like playing with people who also love the franchise, it turns out to be actually awesome. So at least try it and feel bo fear.

      The campaign is a lot of fun, although its missing a few modes on Spanish Village and two maps they came out with post-launch which is really unfortunate... We begged them to finish it but the RE7 trolls had scared Cap away, unfortunately.
      Multi is super super fun, and although ORC has a few things UC doesn't have, UC has a few things ORC didn't have. So neither is a complete experience, but both are very fun. Only need 4 people to get UC going, so don't get discouraged and uninstall. Finding 3 people is pretty easy ;)

    Despite all the hate this game gets, I actually really liked it. I wouldn't nominate it for GOTY or anything, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a blast playing through it with people online. I kinda wish the characters were a little more unique, but there is a solid reason to play as one over another. Although the Russian surveillance guy is pretty damn useless, the rest seem pretty solid. It is a huge shame that they chose a cop-out ending that made the game noncanon, because this game would've otherwise fit in pretty well with the series timeline. I can think of a few alternate endings that would've upheld canon and made this game much more memorable. And yes there are bugs and glitches, and it's not extremely polished, but I enjoyed it for what it is, both gameplay and aesthetic-wise. If anything, it's just a guilty pleasure and a fun diversion for series vets. I actually played this on PS3 and didn't notice any of the control issues, so who knows.

Being able to fight them as the bad guys was definitely interesting and proved to still be a challenging fight.
    I also loved the choices of passive abilities for your characters. Lupo being my favorite to be able to control zombies and infect enemies to become zombies.

    The trailers were amazing and really it was the story that I was the most excited about this game. But it didn't reach its potential.
    The story isn't that bad, but I think that what they needed to do to make it better was:
    1. Don't make the wolf pack interact directly with core characters, if they are going to interact make it indirectly.
    2. Get rid of the Spec Ops storyline, only focus on the wolf pack.
    3.Don't make the wolf pack a 6 person team, stay with a 4 person one if the game is 4 person co-op so that the story remains consistent.
    4. In cutscenes keep each member character and role consistent. If im playing the explosive expert and the team has a team leader, why the hell am I taking charge and all the decisions? I get it, the player is the main character, but it hurts the story if the team leader is following orders from the medic.

      I think if the game is considered not canon, then it's fine to do whatever you want with it, just make it playable and not frustrating. If more time was put into making a smoother and slightly longer game then we wouldn't be talking here but it's such a chore to play through like avalanche said. Now its backwards compat on Xbox s and x and runs smooth af and it's a blast to play. Even spent the 20 to download it digitally. I think I remember the devs saying it wasn't Canon makes it tolerable and whatever happens, happens. Kinda cool you can switch characters and have them interact with each other differently in game and in the cutscenes it shows the exact character do said action. I always hated when the game FORCES the main character to do everything, like why have everyone else around if this person is gonna do everything? I think for when it came out and what they tried to do with this game, its a good game not great. This ain't Re2 here and never meant to be.

    I really enjoyed the ORC game. It had such cheesy and campy dialogue and voice acting, which IMO...was part of the first RE games, such as...
    "Jill sandwich!"
    "Jill, there's many demons....OUCH!"
    *Leon first encounters the Licker*
    "Oh, boy!"
    "Ladies love my accent, it drives 'em crazy!"
    Walking the zombie infested streets of Raccoon City really fleshed out some lore of the city and how both Umbrella and the government handled the viral outbreak. Revisiting old locations rode high on my nostalgia waves.

    Since I got the RE2 remake, I've been saying that ORC should have a Remake. Have it built from the ground up with the the RE Engine or similar. I love the game, not gonna lie cause it was fun for me, but it could be fleshed out.
    Like whatever character you play as can have a flashback scene on how they came to be with Umbrella (like Karena LeProux aka LUPO's background of being a soldier, to a wife killing her abusive husband then mercanary work to provide for her kids then Umbrella.)
    I also didn't like the split at the end, I kinda want a trust thing in there for them to make their decision to side with you, at varying degrees though to match their personalities so easy being Beltway then hardest being vector, or not and choose what happens with those who don't.
    It had potential. A remake would fix it and would be awesome to see.

    I started watching the Retrospective because I played a lot of RE1-3 when I was very, very young and the videos were a great analysis that reminded me of the great moments of those games. It's been years and years since I've played RE2 or 3 so those videos were really nice. I continued watching the Retrospective because I played a lot of the later games more recently and was interested in how your opinion of RE4-6, pretty controversial games in the franchise, compared to mine. I was especially interested in your opinion of RE7. Thought I would stop watching with that. But the analysis of these spinoffs has been great. I've generally not played these spinoff games, especially the more obscure ones, so it's been super interesting to watch your analysis of these games. Its good to see someone give this game a fair shake. It's not knock-your-socks-off amazing from a technical standpoint, but a lot of heart went in to the little things. The creative team deserves a boatload of credit for actually paying attention to the timeline of events in Raccoon City, like the fact that the mission to take the G-virus happened a week before the events of RE2, and you can see that in the movie between the first and second missions. Sure, they took some liberties here and there, but you have to when the premise of the game has the USS having a showdown with Leon.

    I absolutely adored this game when it came out. Played it a lot on the 360 by myself and with my friends. And the devs even went to the trouble to release DLC that doubled the campaign's length; which was interesting. The main campaign focusing more on RE2 and the US military campaign focusing more on RE3. Of course, where the multiplayer is concerned, they made the all-too-common mistake of selling a multiplayer mode - ensuring that the player pool would be torn into pieces between the people who buy it and the ones who didn't.
    And it had those water cooler moments. You know that part in the main campaign where hunters are dropped in in their pods? I was playing with some friends and was chatting as I ran out ahead...only to get squashed by a pod. It happens so fast that one minute I'm there, the next I'm gone. I stopped talking immediately and stared. Hilarious in hindsight, but holy shit.

    For any fans of this game I would recommend listening to the Crimson Head Elder podcast with this games director Andrew Santos - it goes into the development issues and other decisions the developers made - the game was supposed to have the Spec Op's campaign in the original release and not as DLC. There are some interesting revelations to hear!
    I love this game despite it's flaws! I know it is not survival horror it is ultimately a SPIN OFF game! Why not let the series experiment in a side game instead of cramming many different genres into one game like RE6? It is too bad they couldn't make a Canon version of this were theses characters can cover Umbrella's ass during the initial days of the outbreak!

    Having watched all of your series here, I've noticed you frequently tackle the question of "what is Survival Horror?", so I figured I'd throw my two cents in. My answer probably isn't the most satisfying one and might be seen as a cop out, but for me Survival Horror is basically just whatever Capcom says it is. They invented the term as far as I know for Resident Evil 1, and seem to apply it to all of the mainline RE games (and don't apply it for spinoffs that deviate too heavily, like ORC). Not the deepest or clearest definition, I know.
    Much like yourself, I also enjoyed ORC to a degree, just because I love the RE universe and seeing the locations and monsters again was fun. That being said, you're coming up to what I think is the only RE title (or RE based game, seeing as it doesn't actually even call itself Resident Evil, for some reason) I legitimately did not enjoy and did not finish in Umbrella Corps. I can push through poor and broken gameplay if there's a story that is at least somewhat engaging, but that game's story is little more than what is essentially a progressing series of RE5's Mercenaries stages where you unlock a short file to read between them. So yeah, have fun with that, haha! I look forward to your review.

    • @AvalancheReviews
      @AvalancheReviews  5 лет назад +1

      I don't necessarily agree with your definition of survival horror, but I can see where you're coming from. I tend to think it stays with the games that created it, and not necessarily the developers, although sometimes that is the case. As for Umbrella Corps.......... yeah, not really looking forward to it.

      vaugna16 except it’s not that simple. There were a lot of compromises to make it work on 3DS like the amount of active AI and AI not immediately in front of the player running at 15fps or lower. It was hardly just a simple case of taking 5’s mercenaries and putting it on 3DS. It’s nowhere near as hectic or smooth of an experiences because of all the compromises and this is coming from someone that bought it day one and played it for dozens of hours.

  • @maxlvl912

    Hey man great vid, shame you didn’t mention multiplayer I honestly spent 100 of hours on it. The inclusion of zombies in traditional multiplayer modes made matches so chaotic and the heroes mode was a ton of fun. Also not sure if you played it or not but the dlc campaign for ORC is definitely worth checking out if you enjoyed the main game. It offers a completely new cast (the spec ops that were in the trailers prerelease) and had some way better level design and boss fights than the base game. It’s a shame more people didn’t check it out because it shows how much better ORC is with improved level design

    • @AvalancheReviews
      @AvalancheReviews  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! I meant to mention mp, but I couldn't get any online matches going. I've been hearing the dlc campaign makes for a more fun experience. Going to have to look into that. Not sure I'm down with forking out more money, but I'd be interested if it was in the 5 dollar range.

    • @maxlvl912
      @maxlvl912 5 лет назад

      Avalanche Reviews ah damn shame to hear the multiplayer is dead now, I genuinely felt it was a unique experience. (Umbrella Corps is pretty much just a terrible recreation of it, so you’ll have fun with that) yeah I think in total the dlc campaign is around £16, I remember it coming in two separate packs. A little steep maybe, though the fact you get a campaign that is about the same length of the original and is arguably better I’d say it’s worth it.
