The moment Wesker wakes up is actually a reference to the REmake startup scene where a zombie sits up in a bodybag. The fact that they had references that deep are what makes me so upset about how this movie works; they basically went combing through the series for references but left the actual characters behind. And even the changes they made they did nothing with; Chris is basically Sherry's brother, that's a great alternate concept for character dynamics but it means nothing here, and Birkin doesn't even interact with Claire lol, they have that moment when they lock eyes and they don't even have a scene together after that. Chris also should've died at least twice in the mansion because he got a few magic cuts where he suddenly wasn't harmed, despite one scene cutting from him being pinned by three zombies when Richard died and then just running down the hall a few seconds later.

i really came to the conclusion, that there will never be a "good" re movie. and i think that's because it's too much story for a movie, all the files and stuff in addition to the main story can't be satisfyingly told in one movie, not even in a trilogy, because there simply isn't enough time. i think that movies in general are the wrong medium for re - it's much more a series-kind-of-thing and here's why:
imagine one season per game with around 12 40-minute episodes. i guess they could solve the "file-issue" by just doing flashbacks to the actual event described.
so, using "itchy tasty" as an example: have an episode end on jill walking into the room and picking up the keeper's diary, starting to read, hearing noises out of the closet. end of episode - then have the next episode start with a flashback to the keeper's last days, show what's written in the diary in short delirious sequences, have him say "itchy tasty" then cut back to present day, back to jill, put in a jumpscare with the zombie shooting out of the closet - that's how i'd do it at least.
the best thing is: this would work on every single file you find in the game. and it wouldn't ruin the atmosphere or suspension, because when you'd see those sequences you would be just as clueless what it is about as when you first read the file in the game. you could utilise them to build the atmosphere throughout the season and to give the audience a feeling of which impact those files and journals have on the characters, how it influences the way they think and act subsequently.
and if the producers of any re movie so far really cared about the source material they would've already acknowledged that and would've done it this way.
i'd love to hear your opinions on that - thanks for reading :)

Portraying the characters in a good way, would grant they were good characters in the games - which most of them weren't. I'am a fan of the games, but i'm not so blindly obsessed with them, that i don't notice how ridiculous they are from a sober perspective.
Come on guys, let's be honest now: nobody likes Resident Evil because of great storytelling or deep realistict characters. LMAO hell no! I like them for the atmosphere, the gameplay and the different disgusting creatures in each game. But Resident Evil never had a master class in great story telling or making you fall for the protagonists.
Like you are complaining about Leons and Chris' portrayal in this movie? Well let's look at Leon and Chris in the games - those aren't great or well thought out characters. They are ultimate badasses, almost comic-like superheroes that can do anything and will succeed with everything. You seriously want a movie with those Marvel-type over-the-top badasses?
I like the characters in this movie BECAUSE they are different than in the games. Because the makers tried to make them human, instead of ... guardians of the galaxy 2.0.
And the story? Well yeah the story is weak ... but again: the game wasn't better on that part.
Really what are people complaining about? We are talking about a movie, about a game where you have to fight off zombie-plants and zombie-sharks and the main villain wears sunglasses at night. What did you expect? XD

I saw this movie in theaters with one of my bros, somehow (and thankfully) no one else was at our showing so we got to just shoot the shit and have a stupid fun time. It was absolutely horrible but I have not laughed harder than I did in the scene where the tanker explodes and the zombie walks, literally strolls, into the RPD with that tonally inconsistent music blaring while Leon is somehow missing it ALL. Funniest shit I’ve ever seen, 10/10.
My main problem with the movie is that pretty much none of the characters feel remotely similar to their game counterparts. Leon is a total loser and I hated every second he spoke, he’d be better if he just shut up and actually put some though into his actions. Watched this movie on a flight home and by God was it so frustrating, the director touted this movie like it was an amazing movie that did the "this movie is just like the games" and I do like the other RE movies, they're so bad they're good and they give me a good laugh. This movie just was so... gross. It makes Jill a shallow representation of who she was in the game, just making her some pretty face to look at in the movie. They remove everything that made the games good, absolutely made Claire a really dumbed down character and the fact that Chris was even there made my blood boil just.. everything about this damn movie.

Trying to combine 2 RE games into one movie was the biggest mistake. Too much story, too little budget, too many characters. They should of planned for a trilogy. Use the first movie to gain a larger budget for RE 2 and RE 3. Set the first movie in the mashion, follow the plot points of RE 1, and setup for RE 2. Save as much as possible on budget by having less locations, CGI, and cast. Assuming the first movie made enough money, then get a larger budget for the next 2 movies. Then maybe they could of tried to do more with 2 and 3 to shoot them both at the same time, to reuse locations, and actors. Would of been cool to have 2 pickup pretty much after 1, and connect the movies closer. Then finish with 3 that takes place before/during/and after 2.

The first movie could have been shot in a single building for a set, so super cheap. The mansion doesn’t have to be perfectly copied because it’s changed a few times anyway. The traps could be CGI and toned down in terms of ridiculousness. Make it a suspenseful murder-mystery following Jill as she searches the mansion for what remains of her team. A cast of, what, four leads and some zombie extras? It would be laughably easy to find cast and crew who are fans that would get passionate about the project.
It could not possibly cost even half what they put into this dumpster fire and the effort alone would see the entire fanbase appreciative.

    • @SlightlyInactive
      @SlightlyInactive 2 года назад

They shuldve cut the mansion entirely, i get they wanted to split chris and Claire up, but jesus christ why the fucking mansion. Vendetta already did that, shuldve done re2 and 3. Do nemesis properly this time live action, its literally been a decade since we got a nemesis and paul anderson kinda fucked that up. Having stars busy with nemesis wouldve been way more action than the shit mansion helicopter crash

Two other things about this movie: 1) an Easter egg I only noticed because of the blu ray extras was the fact that there are green and red herbs sprinkled throughout the background of the movie, which I completely missed and I’m so happy Jared missed them here too because I’m not the only one then. 2) at 29:31 you can see on the overturned police car that the emergency 911 number is absolutely butchered. The 9 reads correctly to the viewer’s eye, but the 1’s are accurate to the overturned reversed state the car is in. If the car were to have been reposition to how it would sit on the road normally, the numbers would read 116. Such an easy thing to get right, and I laughed so hard seeing it because I caught it immediately the first time it appeared. Because of that reaction it was actually the best part of the movie for me, even better than the cool Chris muzzle flash zombie fight

I don't think we need video game to movie adaptations anymore. It made sense in the 90s and 2000s with Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil movies and the Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies because videogame storytelling was still in its infancy back then. The movies could offer something the games couldn't. But nowadays, most videogames have cinematic storytelling, characters and performances on par with movies. Why watch an Uncharted movie with fake CGI action when I can just play the games? What is it offering me the games couldn't? Absolutely nothing. I think the only thing that makes sense to me anymore is to do more Warcraft movies. That first one by Duncan Jones is easily the best video game movie and there's so much more potential to explore that world and bring the characters to life with performance capture that the games have never done up to this point.

They tried too hard to force 2 very different full games’ storylines into a single 2-hour movie. They tried too hard to make an ensemble movie, too hard to make it funny, too hard to inject RE Easter eggs everywhere. … but they didn’t try hard enough to make a well written movie that delivers a cohesive and thrilling RE story. Lastly, better B horror movies were made with smaller budgets. I also realize now… the REmakes deliver the best cinematic experience over any of the RE movies.
