      @@LoneWolf1985BK There've been like 3 dozen of those reprints (they're stupidly expensive collector items now), but I don't think Veronica is one of them. But all of them are simply 360 games reprinted and in the new "Xbox One Xbox 360" box. They have the usual enhancements of backwards compatibility like 16x AF and some are upscaled on One X and a couple ones like GTA IV have higher frame rate on Series X.

    Fun fact: The Xbox 360 version of CVX has the word "Herb" misspelled as "Harb" for the mixed herb item in the battle mode. As far as I can tell, this is the only version that has this typo. This continues the trend of typos in resident evil. Other notable typos being the "Mugnum Parts" in re2, "Revelaitons" in the Re Revelations, and "William Barkin" in a blood stained letter in Re0. (The blood stained letter is partially illegible and some letters are missing in the transcript, so the written text is "Will m Bark" so it could say something all together but the capital letters imply a name.)

    The biggest issue regarding the difficulty was that brand-new players really don't know "when the end of a section" is coming up. So it's very easy to lose several weapons for a portion of the game when switching from Claire to Chris, then lose them *permanently* if you load Claire up for her second section. I personally didn't have an issue with it because I was a kid and used a strategy guide, but someone who isn't familiar with the game might fall into that trap.

      I happened to not be able to use Claire's weapons for Chris and it worked fine, Chris already had his Glock and Shotgun, I didn't felt the game was too hard like people said, the developers knew about this possibility and balanced the game so that it would obviously be harder without a weapon like Grenade Launcher, but not impossible or unfair, just gives an extra challenge, that's what I felt when I first played.

      @ThePatchedVest 3 года назад +11

      Yeah, I mentioned this in his original CV retrospective review -- the biggest and most important difference for me (experience-wise rather than gameplay-wise) between the two verions is how Wesker isn't a little bitch in CVX like he is in the original DC version, also re-recorded lines w/ Richard Waugh to get Wesker to sound far more like his "cold, calculated" persona in RE4/0/UC -- than the dramatically hammy supervillain one. I get it kinda undermines the "power" of Alexia to put them on equal footing, but, considering how she's probably the easiest boss in the franchise and how irrelevant CV overall becomes to any future game other than Darkside Chronicles (compared to Wesker, being a badass for the next decade). I'd rather play the one that has the cool Matrix fight -- not to mention the whole extended ending.

It's pretty awful, and I never thought it looked good, even when seeing the game on a CRT. As someone who has both a PS2 and a Gamecube, if a game is on both consoles, I always go with the Gamecube version, because there's a high chance the PS2 version will have this awful motion blur.

    Glad you mentioned the PS2 "blurred motion" effect. I've always noticed it, and it exists even on a CRT so it is part of the video output. Inexplicable, and does make the motion in other versions seem smoother and nicer by comparison.

    • @cosmiczeppelin
      @cosmiczeppelin 2 месяца назад

      I don't think it's inexplicable. It just looks like motion blur, which was very common on PS2, because it was much better at dealing with alpha effects than the other consoles at the time. Granted it looks very strange by todays standards of motion blur, but back in the day that was seen as an advantage, not a detriment.

    In this world of life-like graphics and 4K, HDR resolution, it's nice to just remember the day's and game's of certain era's. Back where we marveled at the number of polygons on screen and the number of bits a system had. 8, 16, 32, 64, 128. Those were the day's.

    Great video! A few things that some may find interesting. The blur on the PS2 version is likely an interpolation technique to try and clean up the image since the PS2 didn't support anti-aliasing in hardware. Also the PS4 version isn't a port of the PS2, it is the PS2 version running on their PS4 emulator of the system. The emulator allows some subtle changes, such as the addition of trophies. The emulated game is then packaged as an actual PS4 game. Last, while the darkness and black crush issues of the HD remaster are well known, this is actually largely improved playing on the Xbox Series X/S while using auto-HDR. I wonder if the blur filter is only applied on the PS3 version because image looks more raw on the 360 version. I also wonder how much of the visual changes to the HD remaster are due to them porting the game to Capcom's MT Framework engine, the same engine RE5 and RE6 use.
    Appreciate these types of videos, thanks for making this!

    Code Veronica is the “black sheep” of the series?? First I’ve heard of that, I mean when the game originally released it was critically acclaimed by most of the gaming press, easily the best game in the series up to that point. They called it the game that RE3 should’ve been considering RE3 was more of a side story to RE2.

      @@RandoLePerson Not technically true. The story is actually even more complicated.
      RE2's production led to a creative dispute between Hideki Kamiya and Shinji Mikami, leading to Mikami taking a backseat from further production on "numbered" RE games. Kamiya then got the go-ahead to make Resident Evil 3. His concept was a game starring HUNK on a Cruise Liner trying to regain a G Virus Sample. Mikami meanwhile focused on Dino Crisis and helping porting teams. Specifically, RE2 on the Saturn. However, that port ended up being too hard to develop and was scrapped. To make up for it, Capcom greenlit a Dreamcast RE game to give Sega fans something to chew on. Mikami took a much closer role in that production and had RE1 Team Veterans take over the production. In a way, Kamiya and Mikami were both making their own RE3s, though Kamiya's was the one officially getting the number at the time.
      However, Kamiya's RE3 ended up being canned due to constant scenario rewrites as well as ironically enough Kamiya and Mikami mending their professional relationship and both agreeing Kamiya's RE3 just wasn't working. Thus, there was a void for the next mainline RE game. Code Veronica began to be referred to as 3 internally because it was so much of a grand next step. Unfortunately, Capcom Higher Ups thought releasing 3 on the Dreamcast while 1, 2, and 4 (Which Kamiya had already been conceptualizing. His RE4 of course became Devil May Cry) were all on Playstation systems would be a disaster. They couldn't call the next Kamiya game RE3 because then there would be too big of a wait between 2 and 3, they needed 3 sooner rather than later.
      At the same time as all of this, there was a spin-off known as "Biohazard 1.9" in development by Capcom's B-Team. On the PS1. Capcom Higher-Ups told that team to make it into a numbered game with very little time. Then the story continues as we all know. Mikami got sick of the formula and made his RE4, then he left, then him and Kamiya made Vanquish, then nobody played Vanquish, which is a shame because Vanquish is really goddamn good, the point is play Vanquish.

      @@RandoLePerson RE7 doesn't really fit into that. RE4-6 are full on action yes. RE8 falls into that middle ground between both, but RE7 is almost identical to RE1 in structure.
