    Sorry for being so late with this one guys. RE8 seemed to come out right when I was in the middle of finishing the last RE Clone video. I've always been a fan of the mantra "better late than never" though. So here's hoping it was worth the wait. Thanks for being so awesome!!

      Hey Avalanche. If there's a game i think you should try. It's lost planet 3. It's a prequel to the first two. And it plays alot like Dead Space. It even has some horror elements, plus you can pilot a giant mech.

    Personally, I dig RE8Village a lot. My one major gripe is how fast some sections are. A lot of the villains could have easily had longer, more interesting sections. I felt like I'd killed off every villain just as they were getting interesting.

    • @mattcollins3591
      @mattcollins3591 3 года назад +54

      To be fair, everything after the house section in 7 was fast too. Margarettes section was super rushed (even though her boss fight was easily the best in the game) lucas’s part was extremely dull, and the entire mine/swamp and Evelyn boss fight was bland and boring.

      @ I honestly think the only RE game that doesn’t feel rushed in the final 1/3 is RE4, and even there the island/lab is the weakest part in my eyes.

      @@8ball279 I mean... I literally don't control what goes on at Capcom, so that's just flat-out false. Don't get me wrong either. I'd love a more classic RE style game and direction. I still play games like ObsCure, Kuon, Rule of Rose and whatnot. Still try to look for the enjoyment that's there, even if it isn't exactly what I may have originally wanted.

      We now know that Capcom will give RE any design they want just because it looks cool or has a good horror element to it, even if it holds no actual plot importance at all.
      A bit disappointing, since I thought this would result in a full explanation into Chris's new, current backstory and the details behind the BSAA and Blue Umbrella, but I guess we'll have to wait until RE9... maybe... if they even explain it then, or at all... ever.

With Capcom’s remakes lately, they’ve nailed that. Unfortunately they’ve missed in my eyes on just about everything else. They’ve also made previous games like RE2 and RE3 unobtainable on modern systems because of said remakes. Wouldn’t doubt if they removed REmake from circulation if they remake it once again. Don’t want to take that chance personally. At least Square still lets you experience both FFVII remake and the original. RE2 and 3 originals deserve to be playable, there’s no excuse. Remake shouldn’t mean replacement.

    About the mold plot twist, I truly thought it was obvious in 7 when one of the first things you do in the game is reattach your foot, when Jack was basically training you about the changes after he "welcomed you into the family", what obviously was Ethan getting infected.

      Also in RE7 there is a document you can find that explains the stages of mold infection, which include regenerative powers and hallucinations. Ethan was clearly suffering from these symptoms during the course of RE7, Eveline just hadn’t taken control of him yet (she clearly wasn’t as strong when Ethan got to the house vs when the boat first crashed there)

    • @Jason-ji8ql
      @Jason-ji8ql 3 года назад +2

      That still doesnt explain how Mia is the only one who knows about Ethan. Plus it also makes any dangerous moment in the game seem so irrelevant now. "Oh no, Daniela stabbed me to death. No wait, just a flesh wound." Also, just because it was explained in 7, doesn't mean they couldnt put something in to remind people. Like when he goes to reattach the hand and say something like, "I hope this works again..."

  • @Swordsmage

    To me the repeating of 7's formula felt less like "doing what works again" and more like it's meant to rhyme with 7 as a true sequel to that game specifically, rather than just being a next numbered entry in a long running series. 7 and 8 tell the story of the father, they're both first person and feature similar elements outside of the rest of the series like using chem fluid and health drinks instead of herb mixes, so the sequel sort of repeats the previous game as a way to book end the story. Ethan begins his adventure alone in the Baker house, then ends his adventure going through a very similar situation, but much less flatfooted. By retreading the same ground it's able to show Ethan's growth, he can take on much faster enemies in much larger quantities, he can take down much bigger and smarter and lucid foes than the insane Bakers. It's a package that's meant to symbolically end how it began, with the next game bringing us something new as the next generation tends to do. We can see with RE2R and 3R that they don't intend to keep telling this same story formula because it works as they both came out in between this, and 3R greatly changed up this story proving they could have done it if they wanted to.
    That being said, I type all this out fully knowing that this could all be reading into nothing and just an accident on Capcom's fault as they just plugged new things into the previous adlib that worked.

    The story at the start of the game is actually just a really ham-handed but quite beautifully animated analogy for the events of the game itself. Each creature that the girl comes across is representative of one of the main bosses as can be seen in their theme and crest. Miranda the bat, Beneviento the spider, Moreau the fish and Heisenberg the mechanical horse, with Miranda as the witch. The girl is representative of Rose, who 'meets' all the forest creatures and is 'lost' in the forest, the forest being the village. And of course, the father burning the forest and staying behind to do so to protect the girl is Ethan sacrificing himself to get a recovered Rose back to Mia, the mother, and out of the village. Personally, I think it's out of place, but somehow fitting with how it parallels the game.

  • @OneTrueNobody

    I'd have to disagree on Lady Dimitrescu being an "improvement" on Mr. X, but probably not for the reason you expect. Lady D shares some superficial similarities with Mr. X, but she's far closer mechanically to Jack Baker in that her patrol area is very much confined to specific rooms and corridors of the castle at a given time. When Jack was chasing you around the west wing of the first floor of the Baker House, he would disappear once you escaped that area (or rather, once you found the passage to sneak into the save room). When Jack reappeared on the second floor he would follow you until you solved the one puzzle which you'd already picked up the item for and then he would disappear again, but if he lost you before that he would generally give up actively "seeking" you and just patrol. The area on the east wing of the house was a complete no-go zone for him because they didn't want Jack and the regular Molded enemies being a threat at the exact same time, but consequently, the Molded would not appear in the areas Jack was allowed to patrol (until much later when you revisited the house and the roaming-enemy version of Jack was no longer a factor).
    Lady D's appearances are a bit less obviously scripted but she's still contained to specific "chunks" of the castle which she will never leave once she starts her patrols. It's not hard to figure out where she can and can't go, and in a natural blind playthrough her areas are generally gated off by obvious progress barriers, puzzle rooms, or mini-boss encounters with her daughters that clearly signal to the player that they don't have to immediately worry about Lady D following them anymore. It then becomes easy to recognize when you're re-entering her "range of movement" again and to plan and react accordingly.
    What made Mr. X interesting to deal with was that he was essentially Haunting Ground stalker: he roamed in real-time throughout an entire open-ended area and with very few exceptions he could follow you into any PART of that area. He was generally locked out of the puzzle rooms (the sole exception being the library, and to be fair, we weren't intended to move those shelves one-at-a-time, that was more an issue of it being not immediately obvious that you COULD move them all at once) but once he was active you had to creep around the place at a walk listening for his footsteps and keeping the lay of the land in mind so you knew where to flee if and when he showed up. Mr. X never stopped looking for you and never defaulted to a patrol route; if he lost you he would slow down, but he would still methodically scour the police station to find you.
    His tendency to "teleport" to you after you perform certain actions was an annoying bit of scripted rule-breaking that I dislike, but it was basically the only problem I had with the way he worked.

      Lolwut? this is such a generic comment that borders on ass kissing and almost ignorance haha. don't get me wrong though, i love this channel and it's resident evil videos! but to say all of what you've said is kinda assuming too much of it.. he's very guilty off comparing each title to it's predecessors, especially harshly when looking at 4, 5, and 6. you can first see it on his take on resident evil 2... but he's at the most harshest when he talks about resident evil 7, even controversially ( as you'll see a ton of others in the comments that criticize him for his take on re7, due to a LOT of ignorance that he seems to have on part 7 on that video lol and you'll clearly see that on his like to dislike ratio bar on that vid lol)
      but mostly he really takes the cake on that video for saying that it "wasn't survival horror".. and goes on a long tangent about comparing it to each prior entry for like 20 minutes before getting back on track lol...but like i said, don't get me wrong as i respect his opinion and do acknowledge our differences on many topics and i don't let any of that affect my overall enjoyment of his channel, but i don't konw what you mean by saing it's the "most open RE channel" as even most people on the RE subreddit agree that his takes on the RE franchise is pretty...closed minded lol.
      so it was very surprising to hear you say all of that bro.. but yeah, i'm about to really blow you mind by recommending another channel that i think you'll really like: The Sphere Hunter, she really goes in depth about the franchise as she absolutely adores it just like all of us,and she REALLY allows you to get a good take on the franchise from ALL sides, so if you really like an open minded take on each game than look no further.
      So go subscribe to her and check out her RE videos as well as her retrospectives, i absolutely love her review of RE1 remake as she goes on to describe as why it's the PERFECT resident evil and survival horror game, being that it was the most perfected title in the whole genre.
      after that look at the channel called Ink Ribbon, they are actually a sole RE channel and focuses all of their content on the series! thanks for taking the time to read my comment and hope to hear from ya soon lol

      In these ways, the second game shines much brighter. Sebastian feels like a compelling character, the story is paced so much better and for me? even the scenario feels much more purposeful than the first.
      THAT BEING SAID, my main major plus of the first game feels so much weaker in the second - boss/big bad enemy encounters. Honestly, ALL of the cool big bad related stuff is relegated to the art man in the first few chapters of EW2 and after he's out of the picture (pun intended), the bosses and big bads NEVER live up to the intrigue he and his monsters gave me at all. Really enjoyed your take on Village, Jared. Thoughtful and well articulated, as always. I especially think your statement on the game's design being artificial is quite true. I had an absolute blast playing RE Village, but after beating it it immediately became clear that this game isn't the masterpiece some claim it to be. It's like a theme park ride in which the player is lead from one awesome set piece to the next while using past games' mechanics in the most shallow manner possible.
    If you haven't watched it, Capcom actually uploaded a video a short while back called "Internal Struggle", which gives insight about the frenetic development of RE8. Apparently, the devs decided to change the gameplay at the last second, because the QA team explained to them the gameplay was more frustrating than fun. I think this explains why the initial village assault by the lycans is totally different from how the rest of the game plays. Makes you wonder how RE Village was originally going to play.
    RE Village isn't the best of the franchise, but it's a fairly solid entry. I hope Capcom acknowledges the valid criticisms towards the game, so that they can make something truly great.

      @@denimschaffer9439 I will say that I did enjoy all the numbered series for what they were, the remakes did stick out as some of the best in my mind. Predominantly because of access most likely so they were freshest in my mind against the originals. They all felt like they did a very solid justice to the source material.
      One of the unpopular opinions I hold onto is that I really did enjoy RE 5; while it did steer way off the mechanics and feel gameplay wise, it did feel like a good conclusion to the story.
      When it comes down to it, I hope that 9 shifts gears back to the older cast members. Maybe a new story with the RE 2 and 3 remake style. If that can be pulled off in the proper environment and gameplay style, I would eat it up regardless of new or returning cast members.
