The one time they have a girl boss character known for being a girl boss. Then they write her as the least favorable type of female character in media.
Would of been way better if we got a 4th sequel written and directed by the 2013 devs 😒 Edit: I believe we are still getting a 4th survivor game, just hope its the original devs 🙏
It is also cr°nge how every adult is insecure, _"expressively vulnerable"_ and some of them burst out in tears at every opportunity. I am not very stoic but to most of those characters I might as well be John Wick.
*Drinker shows who the showrunner is* Oh goddamnit, I know people hate stereotypes but this is precisely the reason they exist. There is a hint of truth to every one of them.
They erased everything. She doesn't look like Lara at all. They keep refusing to let her use her guns. I don't care that the reboot games did that. No one liked it. Her look is all wrong. From skin color to not even wearing sun glasses. She does not act as Lara at all. Just like how EVERYONE hated Metroid other M. This is a primary male demographic game. These type of boring relationships and endless crying are things that never work. This is what we mean when women are directing/writing Soap Opera's. And not action adventure shows. Because I doubt women watching Soap Opera's would like me to take control of their show. And have characters fixing cars, talking tech, video games, or showing military ops.
except even in the PC games she had lesbian moments. In on of the PC games there's that woman whose implied to be a vampire whose flirting with Lara, and Lara says "buy me a drink first and i'll consider your proposal." The woman laughs and sends her goons ins, quipping about Lara "not having enough stamina" to engage with her. plus, as usual, TCD is just editing the footage to make it seem like Lara was gay in the show. She wasn't. But woman hating, politic pushing grifter gotta grift.
I was disappointed when Amazon decided not to make the late, great Ian M Banks Culture series. Now I'm relieved, maybe in the future a studio that respects the original creation will make it.
just be happy that you had your chance to see it, in it's brightest glory .... we got stuff to remember ... not comparable to nowadays mumble aka the "positivity"
You just get me, Boosh. I can't stand what they've done. They exchanged old school female fans like myself in for fat nonbinary they themselves and cat moms
I'm tired of modern TV shows forcing their characters to explicitly talk about their emotions like they are in therapy. That's not good writing. What happened to the art of subtlety?
If someone had told me back in the '90s that one day I'd feel completely disconnected from the things I once loved-Tomb Raider, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, Marvel Comics, ...-I would have laughed. But now, 35 years later, I’m not even surprised, and I barely care when another cherished memory from my childhood gets ruined.
Funny how the show says the first Item is in Chile, in a temple in the middle of the jungle, with crocodiles and diverse mercenaries that use Machetes as a weapon. Of course, Chile doesn’t have jungles, our local natives never built any temples in that archaeological style, it looks like a temple you could find in Brazil or Perú, maybe Bolivia. Also we don’t have crocodiles, and our skin color is completely different of the ones in the show, and the Machete has no cultural or practical use for use, the knife he use is the Corvo. Almost as the showrunners just did a racist and put latin stereotypes and stapled “Chile” to not use the classic Brazil or Perú
@@theenderdestruction2362 my point being the Machete is completely useless in Chile, our forrest are to thick and humid for its use, and culturally we have never used the Machete. So for the showrunners to put “chileans” with machetes is stupid and actually racist. They went the “of course latinxs are all in jungles with temples and are all brown”
1:39 - I live in Chile. There's no part of Chile that is a luscious tropical jungle. No major Amerindian civilisations rose up here either. The ignorance of what I'm seeing here is breathtaking.
Are you expecting Pedowood diversity hacks to actually open the Wikipedia about a country before they stick it in a show? Be glad if they spelled the name right!
they probably confused Chile with Peru which was the opening level from the 1996 game. maybe also a bit of 2018's Shadow of the Tombraider which had Mayas migrate from mexico along the coastline of south america through the amazon river to the peruvian part of the rainforest where they settled without the local Inkas noticing. but idk, i havent seen this show yet.
The original PS1 Lara Croft completely turned her back on the peerage after her father disowned her for her "outlandish" behavior, at which point she used her archaeological and exploration skills to both find and sell ancient artifacts and to write books based on her adventures. She ended up building an even larger fortune than her family had. If that isn't a strong independent woman, I don't know what is.
I was actually considering to watch that show, since I'm a fan of those two old movies with Angelina Jolie, but... thanks for saving my time, guess I'll just rewatch these two old movies. XD
The Angelina Jolie movies may not have been perfect, but Angelina at least looked and acted the part, and didn't cry all the time. I do find it funny how the VA for Lara is the exact look for a live action Lara
It was a fucking glorious movie. I miss those movies where it wasn’t supposed to be a masterpiece in story or anything but just a kickass action movie that does its part.
@@masterofpuppets5568 no worries. I’m watching some channel reaction to commando movie of Arnold Schwarzenegger and they ask in the movie “wouldn’t this character do this in this situation?” And then they show minutes later that thing happening. Action movies used to make sense even tho they go overboard in strength feat and stuff but they were supposed to be ACTION HEROES. Not some everyday person to relate to. Even tho in that movie he dodges bullets in the final battle but oh well😂
@@ElhajMahmoud Exactly. As I said when it came out, I review things on what they were trying to do. Give me a girl with big hooters and a series of loosely connected action set pieces, and you have Tomb Raider. They delivered that.
I’m a woman who liked the original games. If this is supposed to be for “women like me”, then I’m starting to think that the people that made this are using that as an excuse just to make it how THEY want and to have the fulfillment of watching their own fanfictions be animated for their own viewing pleasure
💯, they always blame it on us while claiming it's for us, no, writers, it's your very own fetish, we were there from day one with her og independent personality and guns, this is just offensive to everyone but especially, us.
I’m a man who grew up around the very first game & I completely agree. It’s not made for either of us. It’s made purely for wierdos who made it & no-one else.
as a tomboy fan of anime i hate that shit like this and for years i never once considered or thought "oh she could be gay confused or trans" bc japan depcits most tomboys with a love interest a guy friend and it works but the eventual pay off of said guy friend helping the tomboy girl come into her femininity is great perfect example tomo-chan is a girl epitome of tomboy so when these freaks come in and try it add some gay or trans shit it's just so weird and let's be honest if japan or some other media did that there'd be much less people than there are for tomboys in anime :P
Only thing I remember of Lara Croft is Jolie's movie adaptation, and how she's partly working to honor her father's memory and legacy. I really liked that... A beautiful, classy, intelligent, loyal and fearless daughter. Any man would be proud of such a daughter.
@@miamijim5964 Wrong. He's not the problem you tinkle-swallowing waste of air. It's the damn fat lonely woman that doesn't know how to write a proper woman protagonist (ironic since she is supposedly a woman). She writes this. Not what we know about Lara Croft, either Jolie's run or the games.
Jolie's movies were a departure from the Canon backstory Lara Croft had. In the classic game canon (the only one that matters) she was disowned by her parents for wanting a different lifestyle.
@@haleymarie3113 I mean both work for the backstories. I never got big into the original games, but I loved the Jolie version and still wish I had the physical means to be like her.

@@TheMambojack I blame Game of Thrones for the whole morally grey character thing. It's very difficult to write compelling characters like that, and modern writers are definitely not up to the task.
@@EscargoBay Morally grey characters can be very interesting, like Dexter. Dexter is far more interesting than anything the woke mob have created.
As a young girl, Lara was an inspiration. I remember my love for history and geography began after playing the second tomb raider. I was so enamoured by a female character who was effortlessly confident, detached, always on her own thing. Athletic, beautiful, capable, sexy. Even as an adult now, I still hold so many of those values Lara taught me as a kid. As silly as it sounds, I still think about 'what would Lara do?' Sometimes. She was my hero. More than her new design, more than the story, I hate how this one character, the strong woman little me loved so much, ended up as something so fragile. So easy to break. We do not humanize her by making her cry or whine, we humanize her by showcasing the struggles befitting a woman of her caliber. A distant stoic, lone wolf, like Lara woman might strugge to make connections, to let go of her own walls, to enjoy help and letting others in, to realize she might not be as infalible as she thinks she is. To be vulnerable. This Lara has such an easy time whining and crying and complaining. Core Lara holds shit in, and THAT'S 'relatable'. (Actually, we don't really need to humanize her at all. Let her remain an archetype. I miss when characters were just cool lmao.) Why does every female character i like end up getting such a whiny new version? She hulk, carmen sandiego, croft. Who's next? Jessica Rabbit?
It's a show made by adults who haven't grown up from being 12 year old girls. It's a fanfic by non-fans made by people without industry accountability.
@@avay8726 Yep, the ,,normal" one. I think homosexuality is absolutely fine, but if a character is straight, just keep them straight. It is all just to transmit some political agenda and that shouldn't be the case
I love how they made Korra give up this whole Avatar thing in this sequel and changed her name to Lara. That's some awesome character development here.
@@xavierhouston4650i don't. Care what people say that was absolutely diabolical and I still can't believe nobody in the show or comics says anything about it.
I am really getting tired of the trope of making literally every single tough female character into a lesbian... It's like... What's the messaging there? That the woman is too masculine for men? That she's so masculine other women desire her? That only lesbians can be tough? Why do modern writers hate femininity so much? Actually... They hate masculinity too. But only when either is represented by a woman and a man respectively. They hate the concept of Cis.
Isn't it crazy how they had to rewrite an entire character who was known to be a heterosexual playboy into a hyper gay freakshow because we just cant have an adaptation of an old title be tainted and unhampered with?
They hate you, they hate people like you, and most of all, they hate the things that make you happy. It's why abhorrent shit like this is constantly getting greenlit.
Is everyone blind or just slowly waking up to this realization. Theres nothing hardly new anymore. Its mostly remakes. They are taking what is good and deliberately turning them bad. This is top down management systems. The girl bosses doing the grunt work at the bottom arent to blame. Its the feminist corporate overlords running these businsess. They do not care about money anymore. They have trillions in reserve. They are programmimg and demoralizing the population with their filth.
I ironically think it might have been better if he stayed a heterosexual playboy that they kept making fun of... At least that way they stop causing friendly fire that way.
The non-threatening male sidekick trope is really starting to piss me off. I don't mind when a female-lead show has a male sidekick who is designed to not draw attention from the main character, that's fine. But these characters are somehow aggressively non-aggressive, like instead of fading back into a secondary role they stand out in front and loudly proclaim how lame they are.
Makes me miss characters like Ron Stoppable, male sidekicks who lacked their female counterparts' derring-do, but more than made up for it in quips, empathy, weirdly good ideas, and sheer likability.
glen from transformers was the fucking goat but never left his role as a secondary character, male sidekicks need to be more like glen and ron stoppable
@@shadowmanksx If you have time, watch Ghost in The Shell, the series. Female Lead, leading a team of men and everyone is well written. The men even evoke more emotions that female lead, and not once is it Strange or weird
It's not just the media. Years ago, they gave Mrs. Butterworth a double masectomy, and the hot Land 'O Lakes butter chick mysteriously disappeared from the box. And, they killed Chief Wahoo (Cleveland Indians), when the name 'Cleveland Indians' was chosen to honor one of their players - it was never derogatory (like the Washington Redskins). Cuz, you know. You can't risk 'triggering' a single sheeple. Woke can SUCK IT.
They are not erased everywhere. The most used clickbait on youtube is still a good sized cleavage. It is proven to work for both male and female audiences.
You can look at her chest and immediately know everything you need to about the show. No matter how many people say "it's not because it's woke it's just bad" you never see a character defeminized in something that turns out to be good.
Don't give them ideas. If they make Prince of Persia , we'll be doomed. Even tho T2T and TfS was okay , Prince's power peaked at Warrior Within. And that game is not for modern audiences.. I still miss being chased by dahaka,..
Heres the thing: modern writers only care about making characters as relatable as possible to "lived experiences", they can't comprehend someone exciting that isn't tied down by the same experiences they have. People lived vicariously through Lara because she was so different and her life was so exciting, not because they could relate to her on a personal level.
The OG Lara is hot, never cried, massive breasts, unstoppable badass, not a lesbian... So they do the complete opposite and wonder why their show is hated by everyone. Huh.
shes not a lesbian in this show , its been edited up in loads of other videos to make it look that way. Sure the show is bad, but gay in this show , she is not. That is the girl she grew up with, there best friends growing up.

I don't understand why all of these modern game and media production writers are obsessed with making Lara Croft seem inexperienced and out of her element so often, needing support and acting like a dolt. We literally started with peak Lara Croft. She's an insane gymnast, insane combat shooter, world famous explorer, genius intellect, on top of being as wealthy as a queen and completely independent.
It starts off just like the Halo-series did: "Let's kick off by having a great action-sequence reminiscent of actual game play that show the main character in their best light and lets the audience remember why they loved the games!" "That's brilliant!" "Let's follow that up with ten to twenty episodes of the main character being completely out of character, constantly moody, insubordinate or generally incapable! Oh and lets also experiment by adding some new character traits no-one asked for dreamed up by people who never played or understood the appeal of the original games! Finally let's sprinkle in some supporting characters that are as flat as the paper they are written on yet take up half of the screen time!" "What?"
I checked her IMDB for Tasha Huo the lead writer who wrote 6 of the 9 episodes - she has only 4 entries for movies/shows. Guess what her first documentary film was? WOMEN IN THE DIRT - Female architects shaping our world today Now don't get me wrong, putting a spotlight on women in a field dominated by men is a good thing, but the manner in which she did is was horrible (proven by the reviews and score too). She definitely should NOT have been asked to lay a finger on this show.
Rhianna Pratchett did horrific damage to Lara Croft. Imagine having the perfect "strong independent female character" already in place, then turning her into an utterly aromantic pot-hole of daddy issues who cries while killing hordes of nameless men. Because that's "real", right?
Sad thing is her dad wrote fantastic female characters, like Angua or What's-her-face in Strata. Or of course Granny Weatherway, Nanny Ogg and the lot.
Rhianna Pratchett admitted herself in an interview she wanted and pushed for Lara Croft to be Lesbian on the 2013 reboot, where Samantha Nakamura would have been her Girlfriend but she was vetoed by her superiors. Still, there are still remnants of her Vision by making Samantha to be "just" Lara's best friend and her damsel-in-distress for practically the whole game. It is no wonder Samantha never returned for the sequels, and Rhianna stepped away from the game industry after the direct sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider.

yeah i was thinking the same thing, the show runner is exactly the stereotypical type of person you'd expect to make a show exactly like this. no subtlety at all... fat white woman with half a shaved head making lesbian girlboss story, can't get any more stereotypical than that, except maybe if she had a blue or purple streak in her hair too.
The real Lara Croft is an iconic globetrotting adventurer recovering and securing artifacts of immense power with her bravery, athleticism, and huge caliber guns. She also has two pistols.

People act like the 90s were some kind of dark ages in terms of media sensibilities. Meanwhile, we had women action stars (Sarah Connor, Lara Croft), gay people in prominent roles on TV (Will & Grace, Ellen), all-black sitcoms (Fresh Prince, Family Matters) syndicated all over the western world etc. And it worked out just fine, because it wasn't done by agenda-driven activists.
It was done by agenda driven activists, they were just sensible back then and had good intentions without wanting to ruin society 😅 Did you know the first lesbian kiss on film was in the pre-Hay's code 1930 film "Morocco" when nightclub singer Marlene Deitrich kisses a woman in the audience during a song? (Obviously, it isn’t full-on making out in the direct context of a gay relationship, but it’s definitely sexual rather than friendly/platonic). I always lol when those idiots at Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm/Pixar or Apple go on about "the first this and that to do X and Y". It's all been done countless times before any of you hacks even realize.
According to 'the Message', modern Leftists are the pinnacle of tolerance and understanding, and the further back you go the more twisted and bigoted people become until they're literally Austrian painters. Any evidence to the contrary will be destroyed.
I'm pretty sure all these TV shows and movies can be adapted for modern audiences. They will become unwatchable, but at least they'd fit with the current times.
I still believe that Lara Croft is the most recognizable female video game character of all time, in the late '90s and early 2000s it seemed like she was as famous as Mario, Sonic, Pikachu, etc. But even when some of the recent Tomb Raider games have been quite successful, though Square-Enix (in)famously said the sales were lower than they expected, it seems nowadays Lara is known for having being famous in the the 32-bit era of games, kind of how Pac-Man was the most famous game character due to the success of the original arcade game. To be fair, I never played a lot of Tomb Raider as a kid, and if I had to mention which is probably the first female video game character I remember seeing everywhere in magazines and shows, that would be Chun-li from Street Fighter and Princess Peach from Super Mario, with an honorable mention to Princess Zelda, Tifa and Aeris from Final Fantasy VII and Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury/King of Fighters
Thank you for saying what we've all feeling for the past decade of ruination that Crystal Dynamics has wrought. It's time a different team/company takes over the franchise back to it's roots, and success. There's a reason the recently released remastered games sold so well, probably more than the recent 'Shadow' game.
Lara Croft was designed as a badass adventurer with massive sex appeal. She was FAMOUS for it. It made her a worldwide icon. Unlike a lot of these writers, I was there when she appeared in 1996. I watched it happen. There was no getting around the fact that Lara was 100 percent designed to appeal to straight males. The ads. The urban legend of the "nude code". You can't just forget it or act like it didn't happen. And yet, as always, here we find ourselves.
And they act like normal lesbians weren't attracted to this smart, fit, confident, busty woman. So sad to see all of these fat angry lesbians take control and erase those characters or modify them to be unattractive, both inside and out. This isn't just lashing out at men, it's lashing out at the entire world for not finding them attractive. It's an artist defacing paintings at a museum because they will never be as good as any of the great masters.
It's not just males, females loved Lara as well and wanted to be like her. A badass woman who's attractive, intelligent, feminine, and strong? Uhh, duh
@@jase276 That's a good point, I'd forgotten that when I showed the game to my girlfriend she was like "ha, that chick is so cool". She had a comment or two about the size of her boobs though. XD
It's hilarious how Netflix can go from absolute bangers like Society of the Snow, All Quiet on the western front, Cyberpunk Edge Runners and Terminator: Zero to this. This company really has absolutely no consistency.
The action and moment to moment plot is pretty good in Terminator. The over arching plot feels like it was written by 14 year old with both one too many adderal pills and chromosomes.
The last Tomb Raider trilogy of game (the first 2 anyway) I think struck the right balance between being not obscenely large, but she was still pretty well stacked and gorgeous. They just keep trying to turn her into a piece of plywood as time goes on. Even the 3rd game of that trilogy took a bunch of well deserved shit for toning down her chest for some stupid reason, like she dropped a full cup size at least between the 2nd and 3rd games. They hand-waved it away with "oh it's only cause of the outfits"....yea bitches, the fucking outfits YOU designed to look like that.
An entertaining take and directly on point, as usual. If the writers of these projects addressed the constructive criticisms offered here, they'd have a billion dollar blockbuster. But, no.
The adaptation of the show significantly misinterprets and disregards the essence of the original Tomb Raider series and Lara Croft herself. It's disheartening to witness how they overlooked such a treasured legacy for the sake of apparently modernizing the character.
Ngl even if they gave her a gigachad husband and 3 kids I'd still expect them to make her be secretly bisexual the whole time because even people that are happily married with families arent allowed to be just straight these days.
The first sequence alone was baffling. Lara goes through a series of obstacles including having to go underwater to discover the ancient temple then immediately after Conrad shows up like he was just there all along waiting for her.
I mean I feel like thats more a par for the course with the adventure movie genre. Like how many times have Nathan Drake or Indiana Jones had the same thing happen to them?
I haven’t played TR 2013 since it was new. But I was under the impression that Lara/Roth were treasure hunters in the “we do History Channel specials” context prior to the getting stranded in Yamati, which was the first time Lara ever seriously had to fight anyone. Why were they showing her raiding tombs prior to her origin story
The best part of the show is when she says "...I'm going to have to go to the worst place in the world" and it cuts to a shot of Paris with French accordion music playing.
Tomb Raider is ideal setting for 90s style adventure series with each episode being self-contained mini story with mystery or villain of the week. You could even make it family friendly without much issue, if you wanted to. Perfect opportunity, and they still somehow managed to fuck it up.
I don't know anything about Lara Croft but I was confident that if I listened to the Drinker for a few minutes I'd start laughing. Not disappointed. Brilliantly written and delivered dialogue. Love your accent too, old man. Thanks
The fact that Angelina Jolie's portrayal of Lara Croft is the only one to do it justice to this day is laughably sad..... it's been what? 20 years and people can't get her right anymore.

This was also where the Tomb Raider games went off the rails... Tomb Raider was not action game punctuated by puzzles like Uncharted. It was a puzzle game punctuated by action. The original games had grandeur, depth, beauty, atmosphere, and very very slow pacing. When the music started playing, your heart started racing, because gunfights were actually relatively rare.
Exactly, the new Tomb Raider were not Tomb Raider at all, they were decent adventure games, but had nothing to do with the franchise. I don't know if we'll ever have another puzzle game like the old TR1/2/3, I don't think players nowadays are patient enough for that, they'll give up at the first puzzle because they didn't have their dopamine hit in the first 5 minutes.
@@feandil666 There are certainly some modern streamlines that can improve the franchise... for instance I remember the "save crystals" feeling very punishing. Although it did create a feeling of elation when you finally found one. I also loved the scarcity of weapons and ammo in those games. Damn, right in the childhood.. The nostalgia seeing those old clips of TR1 hit me like half a house brick though- the first bear in that cave at the beginning, those angry chimps lmao; getting a Darwin award by dying after climbing onto that giant hand of that statue of Midas and turning to gold, when in the mines after you've been disarmed and accidentally enter the big cave with the lava- where that first guy with the Magnums is- before you get your pistols back- from that porta-cabin you lower by finding fuses for the hoist- and run around in a panic getting shot at and unable to fight back... those centaurs that come alive outside that temple and start throwing fireballs at you, that awful death animation when getting impaled on spikes that made me cringe as though I felt it myself lol, the creepy place near the end of the game where all the walls looked like they had veins pulsing in them or something and creatures burst out of those green eggs... I'm surprised at how much I actually remember about a game that I played as a child not too far off 30 years ago.

They're not. Like all streaming platforms it's kept afloat by outside funding but as we're increasingly seeing in video games and movies, it is unsustainable
At the time, the first Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movie seemed kind of meh. But looking back, we were really spoiled, weren't we? Both her performance and the script nailed the combination of toughness, sexiness, levity, and sophistication that make the character really fun. When is the last time a piece of Tomb Raider media actually succeeded in that (or even tried, for that matter)?
I love how Lara makes a throw away line "Zip you track everything right?" And that is the excuse for him being basically omniscient. Seriously a thief jumps on a scooter and takes off, Lara stealing one of her guest's car to chase after him. And Zip is isntantly able to be the eye in the sky, knowing where both Lara and the thief is down to such details he can tell at which exact street Lara is on AND which streets the car is able to handle. Putting gps trackers on all the Croft artifacts I could somewhat believe. But a random guest's car? And he even seems to know when she switches to bike. This told me all I needed to know about the quality of writing in this show.
Same thing happened in Destiny 2. It's billed as an action-adventure game where we become the hero. It's now Super Gay Space Therapy where we listen to gay characters (which make up about 80% of all the main characters) emote and talk about their feelings for weeks on end. Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Aragorn, James Bond, and Laura Croft don't sit around and talk about their feelings. They assess the problem and solve it.
I left at the Nimbus paywall when Lightfall dropped (as should have any sane rational individual). When the opening blurb confused me with enough they/thems i had to reread it to make sense of it i walked that very second. I had everything too. Thousands of hours in. F*ck that.
Just stick to Warframe. Yes, some of the story was clearly made tripping on mushrooms, but at least all the character models look like mechanized space ninja's and the gameplay is excellent.
I respectfully disagree. Though, I don't like Nimbus. I don't think ANYBODY liked Nimbus. Rohan for the win. Anyway, I don't think half the cast is gay. Tombraider, while I thought the remakes from 2013 were worthwhile, isn't exactly a franchise I'd expected to do anything at all. Having this come out now is certainly a slap in the face yet again, but I'm more worried about the franchises I still love than the stuff that is in the Disney purgatory, or a 20+ year old gaming franchise that got a few good reboots and a few mediocre movies.

Those fights in Peru (after the three years passed) actually happen. They are part of a yearly ritual called Takanakuy (Quechua for "to hit each other"). It happens in Cusco every December 25th so that any two parties can burry the hatchet and begin the new year with a fresh start. Men, women, and sometimes children participate. I want to make clear that this is NOT FRIENDLY COMPETITION. This is to settle scores. And in Peru, we don't use those wrestling masks. That is Mexican.

One of the most painful things is seeing a side by side comparison of the character and the voice actor.

Of course, Chile doesn’t have jungles, our local natives never built any temples in that archaeological style, it looks like a temple you could find in Brazil or Perú, maybe Bolivia. As a young girl, Lara was an inspiration. I remember my love for history and geography began after playing the second tomb raider. More than her new design, more than the story, I hate how this one character, the strong woman little me loved so much, ended up as something so fragile. So easy to break.

It starts off just like the Halo-series did:
"Let's kick off by having a great action-sequence reminiscent of actual game play that show the main character in their best light and lets the audience remember why they loved the games!"
"That's brilliant!"
"Let's follow that up with ten to twenty episodes of the main character being completely out of character, constantly moody, insubordinate or generally incapable! Oh and lets also experiment by adding some new character traits no-one asked for dreamed up by people who never played or understood the appeal of the original games! Finally let's sprinkle in some supporting characters that are as flat as the paper they are written on yet take up half of the screen time!"
"What?"
I read both these parts as the Writer guy and Producer guy from the Pitch Meeting videos. I now await that guy's take on this disappointing dreck.
The show’s version of Chief and Halo isn’t canon to the games mind you.

WOMEN IN THE DIRT - Female architects shaping our world today
Now don't get me wrong, putting a spotlight on women in a field dominated by men is a good thing, but the manner in which she did is was horrible (proven by the reviews and score too).
Maybe it is, I don't know what women do in their free time.
Now that I think of it, why give an adventurer a fear of adventure?
"I can do this..."
Yes love, we knew that thirty years ago
Rhianna Pratchett admitted herself in an interview she wanted and pushed for Lara Croft to be Lesbian on the 2013 reboot, where Samantha Nakamura would have been her Girlfriend but she was vetoed by her superiors. Still, there are still remnants of her Vision by making Samantha to be "just" Lara's best friend and her damsel-in-distress for practically the whole game. It is no wonder Samantha never returned for the sequels, and Rhianna stepped away from the game industry after the direct sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Didn't know she was into ruining other media besides her fathers Discworld series.

It was done by agenda driven activists, they were just sensible back then and had good intentions without wanting to ruin society 😅
Did you know the first lesbian kiss on film was in the pre-Hay's code 1930 film "Morocco" when nightclub singer Marlene Deitrich kisses a woman in the audience during a song? I’m old enough to remember when Lara stood shoulder to shoulder with Super Mario in the 90’s. It’s sad what they did to her.
Ya me to. She was more popular than Crash and Crash was awesome 😎
It's not as if she's reticent to display their magnificence either.
"Lara's gay now."
There we go. Can't be a modern western show without this!
"Maker her lame and gay!"
Ngl even if they gave her a gigachad husband and 3 kids I'd still expect them to make her be secretly bisexual the whole time because even people that are happily married with families arent allowed to be just straight these days.

There must be an alien sitting on Venus right now, scratching its head at how we could have 8 billion people, but also all be gay.
They already had a chick in it, all they needed to do was make her lame and gay
I still liked those games though, even watched some RUclipsrs play it.
Tomb Raider II for Ps1 was great. I had one for Gameboy Color, too, that was basically Pitfall with a Lara skin.

I love how Lara makes a throw away line "Zip you track everything right?"
And that is the excuse for him being basically omniscient.
This told me all I needed to know about the quality of writing in this show.
that sounds more creepy parasocial than endearing character trait

Same thing happened in Destiny 2. It's billed as an action-adventure game where we become the hero. It's now Super Gay Space Therapy where we listen to gay characters (which make up about 80% of all the main characters) emote and talk about their feelings for weeks on end. Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Aragorn, James Bond, and Laura Croft don't sit around and talk about their feelings. They assess the problem and solve it.
Yeah! With VIOLENCE!
Zavala had a wife and kid, Amanda and Crow were GOING to be a thing before the ever consuming flames got to her. Ikora is a mystery, though I assume she's straight. Osiris and Saint-14 are the only two I can think of. I feel like in recent years they leaned into more of saints sexuality, which can be a bonus to some, discomfort for others. I can see why. I'm straight. While it doesn't make me go, "ew" I just.. I dunno? I just don't understand it, I guess.
Anyway, badass space titan go brr soo.. Back to the point. Oh, right.. Ana. Ana is the only other LGBTQ character in Destiny I can think of. So uh.. Yeah.
And about the witness: I'm pretty sure we refer to it as "they" because it is quite literally a CONGLOMERATE of THOUSANDS, maybe millions, I don't actually know just HOW many of the primordials or whatever the hell the species was named had died to create the witness.
Oh and uh, Cayde had a wife and kid. That we know. Maybe, maybe not. But we're pretty sure he did. And he believes he did, so there's that.
Anyway, rant over. That's my reasons why I don't think Destiny is "super gay space therapy."
...oh yeah maya sundaresh and whatever her name is.
I really don't get why they made her a vex leader or whatever I didn't play the last season too much, I quit after Last Shape.
Atleast my boy Cayde got to go out in a blaze of glory.
It's a common tactic to add more dialogue scenes in cartoons and live-action in order to save on budget (e.g. Last Airbender etc) but at least in those shows the dialogue is meant to drive the script forward, and isn't 90% about feelings and mushy personal cringe-inducing issues.
