The "eating ass" line was definitely intended to be a joke. The delivery was very poor, and I should have re-recorded it to sound, you know, like an actual joke lol. Just an FYI since this video seems to be gaining traction lately. Also, if you liked this and other videos on the channel, consider supporting me monetarily. patreon: www.patreon.com/dorkaxe and ko-fi: ko-fi.com/dorkaxe
The joke itself is fine but it may be more of an issue with your jarring virtue signaling about sexism. Your take is also wrong since several male characters give erotica points in the right conditions and the survivor strip poker is equal opportunity with Jack Ellis being one of the few bear chubs in gaming history. Multiple male characters have revealing clothes and exposed hairy chests (including Frank in a singlet right from the beginning) so even if it isn't represented in the zombies the game is still full of male sexuality.
I understand that the "eating ass" was a joke, but the sexism part sure wasn't. Let me tell you, male sexualization generally doesn't work, 'cause the need for visual stimulation is mostly a male characteristic. Ever wondered why women aren't nearly as interested as men in nude magazines or strip shows? Ever wondered why women love erotic literature, instead? You should stop applying the same rules to men and women, nature wires our brains differently (of course some women can be very masculine, and viceversa, but I'm talking about significant statistics).
I've talked to Peter (Chuck) a number of times on the Dead Rising Reddit. He is a great guy and I actually got to ask him if Capcom Vancouver wanted to pursue Off The Record since the mainline story was done in Dead Rising 3. He mentioned how there were plans for an Off The Record 2 after Dead Rising 4, yet Capcom ended up closing everything down after that game. I thought that an Off the Record 2 would have been interesting with playing as Psycho Chuck with Doll Katey stuck to his back and he still is trying to protect her. This would have been a logical step forward when it came to protagonists of the series. Chuck wasn't killed in Off The Record as he escapes after being defeated and it also seemed that while unbalanced, he didn't seem inherently evil and so he could still be an interesting main character that is broken, but with a good heart. Peter liked this idea. Thanks again Dead Rising 4 for screwing more stuff up
My headcanon for why Stacey helps you bring survivors into the safe room is because the firebombing isn't guaranteed to kill everything in every nook and cranny of the city. There could be people surviving the firebombing hiding under some rubble or in some overlooked or underbombed corner of the city, and Stacey doesn't want anyone to make it out of there due to the possibility of them having seen the Phenotrans helicopters flying above. Her plan is to get Frank to bring everyone to the Safe House, which is sure to be a death trap when the firebombing does starts. It'll either be destroyed from the bombing itself or it'll be a metal coffin to anyone stuck inside. There's nothing in game to allude to this theory, I just think it's logical enough to answer the question
I like to believe that Frank's big scandal was that he doctored or edited photos at some point, which would explain why characters ignore his photo evidence.
No no, I think he was shoved out of the limelight by fake news, made by corportations on edge that he was gonna start exposing people. He doesn't seem the type to lie about his photos, and he is cocky about them, so why edit something he finds great?
@@lordsickomode well maybe not so much that he ACTUALLY doctored or edited photos, but that he was reported by fake news to have done as much. Fake News probably covered up a bunch of what Frank uncovered and said that there was no way anything that happened actually happened, because without seeing it for ourselves some of the events do sound ridiculous. Like I said it's the only explanation as to why characters outright ignore his photos.
Fairly this all was made up In the first game , frank escape by promising Isabela to tell the story of her town to all the world When the credits said that the government uses difamation and manipulate facts To make franks down fall The biggest fact of why frank was so destroyed by that event is not only because of the events of the first game But the little that you can get from him in any game Is that Isabella gets frustrated by he couldn't keep his promises to tell the true about Carlos that started all this to avenge all his village city or something
I have to said no one paid attention to she the text showed in the endings Every single ending tell a short explanation of what happens when you fail including the ending of overtime that to make sure they make a subjective phrase in red in very end To put in made even more clear the criticism of the game
There's plenty of sexualization of men in dead rising, as others have pointed out, there are erotica shots for guys like the towel guy, also outfits that sexualize frank/chuck, also with Chuck pretty blatantly designed to be attractive.
Ahhhh you still don’t understand that when they make men muscular or handsome, it’s not for the female viewers (mostly because there are no girls playing this game.) They clearly made Chuck handsome so that the men playing the game can fantasize that they are handsome is actually pretty basic stuff. 😅
The new motivations for the bosses are perfectly fine. I think you forget that these people are crazy. Carl wants to murder Frank for mail fraud? Yeah because he's insane. It's fine.
chances are he thinks he was the mall store owner himself, plus his insanity, he didn't dwell on the possibility that's not him with the mannerisms of an average civilian survivor
What I like about Slappy’s interaction with Frank is that he still blames him for being the zombies, wherever Frank is there’s always a Zombie apocalypse, he even gets mad at Frank because Slappy thinks he wants to take a picture of tragedies like his dead girlfriend to make him more famous. Granted it’s not as good as Slappy’s interaction with Chuck where of course he blames Chuck because everyone thinks he started the outbreak. But I think it somewhat makes sense why Slappy is mad at Frank. All in all I think that Dead Rising 2 and Off the Record are the best entries for the Dead Rising series
If they had just cut out the part where Slappy/Brent believes he and Susie/Louise are toys and focused more on his belief/outrage at Frank not caring about human lives (maybe have the thing that sets Slappy off being Frank photographing the dead Susie), maybe they'd have something.
@@haleywalker1640not my comment but I think the reason why Slappy in Off the Record seems more into the toy persona was because he didn't have anyone to take out his rage and vengeance on. In the original 2, everyone knew it was "Chuck Greene" who did it, so Slappy had someone to blame which probably helped him get a better grip on reality. Meanwhile in Off the Record, I don't think Brandon was ever identified, only just known as a member of CURE, so Slappy didn't have that same grip on reality as he did in the original.
@@haleywalker1640for real. I’ve studied photojournalism and photographing a dead loved one’s body is a much more realistic thing to send someone off than what we got
RUclips can be so weird sometimes. I was looking for Off the Record reviews in February of 2021, and even selected specific requirements such as "video only" and "over 20s minutes", yet your review never showed up! I am now finally binge watching your Dead Rising review series, and have to say Im really glad I found your channel!
Really? Chuck's personality is motor-biking dad and that's it. His motives in the game are to just protect his child (what any dad would do) and clear his name (what any innocent person would do) Therefore making him so bland he could be anyone, as perfectly shown with how easy it is to swap him out of the game and make him actually interesting by making him a psycho
@@more-reasons6655that same line of thinking is what makes him interesting. The fact that he's just some ordinary dude, that he could have been anyone.
As for the Erotoca: Its not a big deal. You're making it out to be scandalous, but all the women are clothed you ain't really seeing anything. As for the game sexualizing only women: Dude you're running around as buff, handsome men who the game allows you to dress up like Barbie dolls, including allowing them to run around in their Skivvies so you can drink em in. Iow: The game sexualizes both genders including the death scene where the guy literally gets "eaten out". Its an adult game, aimed at mature adults, who will find this funny. If you don't like that, that's fine There's tons of other Zombie games you can play that have a more PG rating.
Again, I will argue that the more erotic depictions of women do just seem to be apart of the satire. It’s supposed to be “haha funny fellatio and boob jokes!” To take it seriously complete ruins the point.
i felt like it was kinda playing on the overly straight kinda stuff. Like the game is played through Frank's eyes, who is straight but so comfortable with himself that he doesn't mind crossdressing to give himself a bit of enjoyment in a zombie apocalypse
Its appealing to straight males which make up the majority of DR audience and theres nothing wrong with that. Trying to make everything appeal equally to all sexes and orientations all the time is why a lot of media sucks today. And its just a few moments too.
@archieames1968 there's definitely enough stuff with the men though, it seems the game designers were pretty even with how they sexualized the men and women.
In hindsight this comment aged well, they took it out of the DR1 remake and people are pretty bummed out. Changing history is silly, people are too easily offended it's sad. I personally don't care for the feature, but it's absence is evidence of how soft we've become, it's a completely optional mechanic that harms no one. It's never exactly glorified. I always saw it as Capcom showing us Frank is still a docuhebag and not exactly a hero by any means
@@Smellygoat11 but like Morrowind is super super boring Sweetie. Like so dull and with no character or style, plus even the daedric princes are boring in that one, like zero flare.
@@Dorkaxe I don’t understand why so many people disliked Chuck, he can be a bit bland at times but for the most part he has way better intentions than Frank and he’s more relatable. Gotta be another case of first game bias, sequels are often treated with disrespect.
@@CodPatrol Yeah I'm sure you saw but I've definitely come around. I actually think his delivery is funny as fuck now lmao especially his lines in off the record. and the "that isn't magic!" is gold-tier
I find it a bit ironic to say how these games are sexist to women when there's a few male based erotica shots as well as outfits for Frank AND Chuck like the daisy Duke outfit that they can wear. That one having been shown in this very video as well The boxers as well can be seen as sexual to a degree for either knowing its still a rather revealing outfit in of itself. And then there's that God damn banana hammock XD As for the Psycho fights, they sorts do make sense how they act in general. They lost their minds so a Postman going Postal over a signature isn't exactly strange. Thats sorta what makes a Psychopath what they are in a way. Not all are good but sorta does fit why they don't think with logic
I'll just use your comment to argue against this common talking point, as it seems like you're arguing in good faith. Frank and Chuck BEING ABLE TO wear erotic clothing isn't the same as CUTSCENES showing constant up close shots of the main women character's boobs and ass. The player gets to CHOOSE to wear erotic clothing, and can even CHOOSE to zoom in on their crotches if they want. The women characters are subjected to the designer's camera angle choices, which are clearly staged to be very sexual. Again, not always a bad thing here and there, but it's constant and rampant. If someone likes it or not isn't even up for debate here. I don't care about that. If someone personally enjoys Rebecca's ass, whatever, they can if they want. But the idea that people could see these camera angles and not think of them as at the very least SLIGHTLY objectifying (probably a better word than sexist in this instance) is honestly pretty delusional. Photographing near-naked women could have been fine, IF the women characters actually reacted to it. If you've played RE4 before, you likely know you can zoom in on Ashley when she's at a higher elevation. She calls Leon a pervert and hides her crotch, as if she actually has agency in the matter. I think that's good, it allows the player to make the curious decision only to be reprimanded for it. I would have also likely used the camera on characters in DR in a sexual way at least once, if anything to see if anything would happen because of it. In fact, in the first game there's a survivor who asks to be photographed, which, obviously makes it perfectly fine imo. Besides her, NPCs in DR NOT reacting to it make the whole situation kind of creepy, as if the designers are acknowledging that *of course gamers, who are mostly guys, would do this, and that's okay!*. It's like these are all dolls for the typical gamer guy to have fun with, which brings me to my last, and in my opinion, most damning argument. The women zombies being the only ones allowed to eat your dick. How could anyone think anything BUT objectifying/sexism here? Like, literally, the devs specifically programmed it so guy zombies don't do it. Only the women zombies, and in the first game, specifically the not-fat women zombies, got on their knees and in the blowjob position. Like, I don't even know what to say. Is it funny? Of course it is, I don't mind the idea of it, like I've said. But because there was such a deliberate choice to ONLY make the women zombies give the player blowjobs, it feels like they were trying to recreate some kind of fantasy. It's impossible not to view it in a sexual light because of the choice to keep it female only. Hope some of that makes sense to someone, but I'm sure this comment will get a few annoying replies all the same. Again, this isn't specifically towards you, by the way, as you didn't raise a few of these arguments, but I do get comments about this sort of thing quite often, and I, for some reason, don't ignore them all the time. (again, not you specifically)
Sexist? No. Criminally horny? You betcha Also while I do respect your DR videos and the time it takes to make these, it’s very clear a lot of what makes DR special doesn’t resonate with you. Not that it’s bad or anything, I just noticed you have a unique perspective.
I like them too and I also agree on the part of him not really getting it. At parts he sounds like a dork for not getting it. Which is funny cause his name is dorkaxe. Idk the plot analysis may have worked if the game wasn't dead rising lol the first games story has just as many plot holes and wackiness.
I enjoy your reviews on dead rising, but I don't think the sexual aspects of the games are that bad. It's a product of a different time after all. Besides I don't see what's wrong with a game catering to a certain demographic.
For me, the women zombies giving out blowjobs was the worst of it all. It just doesn't make any sense to me why it's only a thing women zombies can do. To an extent I can understand hetero protagonists Chuck and Frank gawking at Rebecca, and Frank's camera scoring system favoring women for erotica since he's again presumably hetero, but the developers must have had to sit down and create the blowjob animation, then choose those AI/animations specifically and exclusively for the female zombies. The effort that was put in just for that, idk, I don't get it. Thanks for the reply, though, I appreciate your perspective.
@@Dorkaxe I would chalk up the animations to heterosexual developers with a raunchy sense of humor making a game for a similarly like minded people. Thanks for taking the time to respond, these critiques have been great entertainment for my 7 day survivor run.
@@Dorkaxe Comedy is subjective. Learn to laugh at it, or learn that just because you don't see the appeal in the humor doesn't mean that the humor is a flaw or somehow worthy of harsh labels like "sexist". I really wouldn't throw those words around like that, especially not in this day and age. I also find it rather alarming how you toss around words like "hetero" in the way you do. Are you closeted or something?
@@thebiggerboat3236 If me typing hetero as short for heterosexual bothers you, idk man. I've made my points in video form already, if you don't agree then just move past it. I only go out of my way to bring that stuff up in two of my thirty videos on my channel, so if you hate those sections, you're in the clear from here on out.
I always took it that Stacey was trying to get Frank killed by sending him out to save people. And told him to save Rebecca because she knew the twins would be waiting for him, again, trying to get him killed. Or she was just enjoying watching Frank run around knowing it was all for nothing with the upcoming fire bombing. Still probably some plot holes I'm forgetting about but it doesn't bother me that much.
I think the first game had a good PC port because it was incredibly polished to begin with. The second game always gave me the impression it was barely holding itself together, even on Xbox 360.
I’m currently going through DR2 and OTR with a friend and the amount of times it’s crashed on us is infuriating, shame too because DR2 is our favourite
@@Dorkaxe I don't know any straight dude that begs to look at dicks. Just sound like a bunch of homosexuals to me. They probably have beards, but they still sound mad gay, my dude.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Stacy having a new voice actor and model. The protest scene with Stacy in the beginning of the game uses the original scene with the original Stacy Voice and model. Good video though. Can't wait to see the rest of the series. Also you gotta do Chop til You Drop.
I mentioned it briefly that her face is different, but I didn't focus on it much. I assumed it was for the surprise that happens later on, as a way to keep the original stacey canon. Was there a different reason for it you think? Some issue with the original VA? Thanks for support pal!
@@Dorkaxe I imagine that they couldn't get the original actor back. I think that was the intention of having a surprise reveal where her ponytail came off. But it doesn't make much sense since it's obviously a different person and Frank would realize that. Maybe the original Stacy was killed off but it wasn't communicated well at all. Maybe go with an evil twin angle? I don't know. But it's one of those things you can't unsee if you played both DR2 and DR2 OTR.
Same VA, but she has a different demeanor. The face change was for the surprise reveal and even the devs poked fun at it in the achievement/trophy description of "True Colors"
I mean, I'm a lesbian woman and the sexualization of women never bothered me that much. What's it with people like you always thinking that it has to be straight men that only enjoy that type of thing? As long as you are able to respect women as people and acknowledge they aren't just objects, it's completely fine. It would be nice if the men got sexualized more to apease straight/bisexual women and gay/bisexual men, but it is what it is. We should all have more games in the future that equally sexualize both genders.
I don’t know if this is just for the versions on ps4 and Xbox but if you have a save from dead rising 2 you could get chucks jacket in dead rising 2 off the record. Also love the video awesome as always!
Thanks dude. I think that's pretty cool if that's the case. I like when games utilize save states from prior games. Reminds me of the memory card days.
Your point about Chuck being the only sympathetic psychopath confuses me as I find many of the psychopaths to be sympathetic Adam At first glance he appears to be a generic scary clown but his quote of “everyone used to laugh at me but not anymore” with the bloody child dolls on the roller coaster implies his insanity was brought on by watching children he used to make laugh being ripped apart in front of him and his actions post insanity seem to be well intentioned as all he’s doing is causing the space rider to go fast to keep the zombies away he also placed Greg on the ride to presumably protect him and only attacks frank because stopping the ride will make the zombies come back all of this makes him a deeply tragic character Steven While his insanity is played for laughs he only attacks David Isabella and Frank because he thinks there trying to rob his store and in his dying moments he seemingly realizes his mistake as his expression turns somber when he mentions customers Cliff A veteran struggling with shell shock at the death of his granddaughter being ripped apart in front of him doesn’t kill any survivors locking them up instead because he thinks there enemy soldiers and only attacks frank presumably because he chooses to fight back yeah really hard not to feel sorry for the guy as for the beheaded corpses you do realize there zombies right? Paul A troubled teenager who only threatens two women instead of doing actual harm to them and only attacks frank when he tries to interfere in his fight he proves to be more of a danger to himself then others as he more often then not blows himself up and when beaten he sets himself on fire by mistake at which point frank saves him causing Paul to come to his senses and reform later on he gives frank Molotov’s to help him survive Larry A joyous butcher who takes pride in his work and wants nothing but the best quality products for his customers even when he snaps the person he chooses to grind up is a terrorist who wanted to infect the entire united states with zombies and knowing Carlito he might have attacked first This is backed up by the fact that Larry will never attack frank first Kent While a bit of a jerk in his first interaction he seems to be a decent guy actually wanting to help frank improve his skills and offering a friendly challenge which unfortunately results in him breaking due to losing and being consumed by envy thus trying to infect a person to prove himself superior while he definitely goes too far some sympathy can be felt in the fact that it’s franks actions that unintentionally push him over the edge while frank is in no way to blame some pity can be felt from Kent’s tone of voice and body language after losing what’s interesting is if frank fails the challenge Kent’s confidence is kept intact resulting in him staying sane and not kidnapping Tad resulting in him most likely being killed when the special forces alive Hall Family While hardly moral to kill anyone that moves and stealing there supplies in a zombie apocalypse it’s at least understandable as anyone you meet could lie there way into your good graces just to kill you when your not looking taking into account all the psychopaths and looters in the sequel it’s not an unfounded fear the fact the mother is not seen among them also implies she might have been killed due to the family originally trusting people but even if you can’t feel any sympathy for Roger you can at least feel some for his sons Jack is just doing what is father tells him to do while Thomas clearly doesn’t want to hurt anyone and is being yelled at by the others to follow there code he also probably still fights even if you kill the other 2 first because well you just killed his father and brother it’s hard to fault him for being angry over that Cletus While James didn’t deserve to die he was an idiot for not listening to Cletus who makes it clear he doesn’t trust anyone and just wants to be left alone as discussed with Roger his fears have merit and he is far more reasonable as he doesn’t actively hunt down survivors to kill and instead locks himself in his store only shooting those who get near while giving multiple warnings I could go into the dead rising 2 psychopaths but I’m not sure if you’ll even read this considering this video is 2 years old so I will stop here if you did read this thanks for taking the time to hear me out and I hope your having a good day
Small things Firstly, while their dialogue doesn’t perfectly make sense, I like it that the two changed psychopaths are actually somewhat deranged here. In DR2 they sort of have the moral high ground, since as far as they know, they are killing a mass murderer. So I like that change. The cattle prod and scythe are actually kind of overpowered if they are not used in combos. Because they kill all humans without a dedicated healthbar in a single hit, making them the best gear to fight the hardest mobs in the game. Lastly while TK throwing Frank into the wrestling cage at the end again does feel like going full circle in a satisfying way, the real reason they implemented this was to deal with a famous exploit. Because the mixed drink effects linger for a good while, drinking some of the more powerful ones before the final boss fight kinda breaks it. So they added this sequence to “stall” until their effect fades.
It’s deranged for a bs reason though, they have the worst reason for picking a fight with him. In the first game they have a good reason for going off the handle
You seem to not acknowledge how much the sexualization brings the Vegas based setting to life. In Las Vegas, you can’t walk 30 feet without seeing advertisements for burlesque shows or escorts. I think if any of the games were to lean into sex the most, it should definitely be this one and it does a fine job.
These games work so much better on the old generation consoles. In the ports I noticed the game crashes (a fuck ton) and the zombies don’t fully spawn. Like you can see them from across the map but that’s it. They don’t truly exist or become intractable until you get close enough to them. This made sniping completely pointless.
I don't know, I think the ladies and gays might get a kick out of Chuck's/Frank's banana hammock (or any other more revealing outfits). You did also forget one important thing about the camera, it can now cancel animations. Now heavy weapons and items are more useful than before.
Having Chuck be the second player in co-op made me imagine a combination of DR2 and OTR's stories kinda like they did later on with Case West. Can you imagine how cool that would be with? Chuck gets framed for the outbreak and ends up working with Frank in a mutual agreement to discover what is going on. Frank gets a scoop that can bring him back on top and Chuck gets the opportunity to clear his name, though being a bit untrustworthy of Frank potentially just using him to get his next big scoop. It would be so cool
5:55 Thats a context thing how would the game be able to account for that as the zombies are just going into a generic animation of eating a corpse it just so happens that the animation was triggered on a different part of the hitbox I'm sure theres examples of it happening to arms head legs and the like. Besides who cares just have a laugh it isn't harmful
True, was more of a joke, but maybe was delivered well. I'd like to point out that if they did take the time and effort to give the erotica genre to eating ass, I would have taken the same amount of time to praise the game for its inclusion.
@@Dorkaxe I understand ya It just felt like a bit of a tirade in the video. Overall love what you did in the video . I just think for the sake of such a tonuge and cheek game you presented yourself as a bit more heated than I think you intended anyway have a good day/night
@@DorkaxeActually there is one male survivor in the safe house which photo have erotica genre, don’t remember his name but he walks in a towel on his torso, so you can’t miss him
I absolultely adore this game, i have crazy nostalgia watching uberhaxornova and sp00n playing this way back in the day and only a few years ago i decided to play it, lived ever second of these games but what sucks is that i tried playing this and had tons of fun but apparently the zombie break in mission is (or was, its been a really long time, maybe they fixed it?) severely bugged and we couldnt get past it no matter what we tried so we gave up and never went back to it, been sitting in my library for so long and so sad coop was bugged but i think my favorite thing in this game was how they added chuck as a psycho, love that part to death, also no more infinite defilers the second you leave the safehouse was a really great change
I like to think Chuck and Evan were the canon in this game. I say this because it seems dead rising 3 took that throw away line into a real thing since Annie (Katie) actually did run away and it seems like Chuck DID lose his mind for a while
4:02 i'm so glad i'm not the only one who experienced that bug in OTR. jesus christ it's annoying, especially if you're trying to rescue Tammy and it happens since, you know, she can't walk, so you're essentially forced to find your way out of the collision maze, if there even is a way out
Honestly I did not expect videos of this length or commentary of this quality from such a low sub channel. I know everyone says this shit but you definitely deserve more subs. I enjoyed the dead rising videos very much and hope to see more for 3 and 4. Subbed, liked, and ofc comment for the algorithm.
I feel like the delivery for the majority of the lines in this game were supposed to be bad on purpose. They deliver their lines like a low budget zombie movie and that’s part of the dead rising charm. I never thought of it as cringey but part of the humor instead.
One thing I want to add to the Chuck bossfight is the music they made for it, the song titled "Firewater." I listened to the song so many times, it's an actually good and sinister song about alcoholism, and a random goofy boss fight from a random goofy game has no right to have something so good as that song.
32:01 Well this is also the same signed photo he gave that TIR worker at the beginning, as that's him dead on the floor holding it before it blows in the wind. Which is a fun attention to detail, especially since that guy now dies regardless of versions as he also is shown getting eaten in the green room when Chuck rushes to save Katie. Having him be a psychopath would be a bit of an eh idea imo, but I definitely think some of the psychopaths in this version don't work as good for Frank.
imagine whining about girls being shown in a video game and claiming the "its da sexism. obviously" card. people buy the game and dont want to see sexual things involving men. and for those that did they added the banana hammock outfit. the women in the games is the reason why some bought the games. especially considering the playboy partnership with capcom
Especially the random occurrence of the zombie’s eating position, yet that part is purely random and was never intentional, that little critic was extremely stupid, and if it was a joke, it sucked
I had to stop watching at that point, the reaching going all the way to zombies playing the eating animation on the origin of the target which might look like it’s eating ass = not erotica was too painful. Random and unnecessary virtue signalling for something nobody asked about.
I rolled my eyes and had to skip past the sexism/erotica part. You're playing as photographer and/or slightly serious motocross star in a zombie filled mall and killing said zombies, optionally wearing a skirt and a lego helmet. I think getting up in arms over that is kinda missing the point a bit, but the rest of this critique was pretty good. Still giving a like regardless.
Off the record did mess some things up though it made the survivors more dumb and need babysitting, if the zombies grab any of them there health depletes a lot, you have to pause just to see the watch which doesn't make sense if Frank has the watch on his arm. In dead rising 1 and 2 you have to press left on the D pad to see the time which is good. Also making TK bodyguard fight require you to raise $1M in off the record just to free Rebecca it is made easy since the money hacker is a very useful item.
Eh, survivors were too good in the original DR2, you could basically ignore them for the most part and they'd be fine. The rest are pretty bit nitpicks.
@Etrius0023 yep survivors where as long as you gived them something eg a gun or a knife the only problem Is Chad you have to take the shotgun away so he doesn't friendly fire .Dean is a pain as he's slow unless you have a magazine or a wheelchair .
I loved this game as a kid because i would always fail the missions, so i would play sandbox mode exclusively. Im so happy i went back to play the game
I like the timed storylines it gives you a huge rush trying to get everything done before time runs out and I love that this one has a sandbox mode with it. Would’ve been cool if they kept that style in their games have a timed storyline for your first play through that you can do again in your second if you want then have a sandbox mode to basically round it out if you wanna just run around and fuck off don’t make it the entire game that’s where the game started getting bad for me. The checkpoint thing in this game is good too finally I don’t have to go take a piss to only save
I thought you were joking about the sexism, but you were actually serious. Hate to break it to you, but back then, the world was still normal and didn't force all that inclusivity nonsense.
I figured the reason why Sullivan and Stacy were ok with Chuck/Frank going around saving survivors was because they figured they'd end up dying out in the city while doing it. Sullivan even comments that it wasn't supposed to go the way it did and chuck was supposed to die in the outbreak Stacy actively pushing Frank into the story is a much bigger plothole tho
That was not the main reason. Sullivan let Chuck help him, even assisted him because that way all survivors would be on one place and thus it would make all tracking easier for Phenotrans/military.
16:08 Very late to comment on the video, but I wanted to point out the Voice over dialog. As someone with Dyslexia and growing up with the game, at the time, it made it more accessible with people who have reading Difficulties and was more enjoyable. Dead Rising 1 & 2 was a nightmare to play as a kid because of the lack of accessibility. What could have done instead of removing it is add a setting to turn it off, so that it was a option for people that don't like it. Anyway, great video review and was enjoyable to watch! 😊
You can't say that you don't care about Dead Rising cannon yet still use that to critique DR4. Character traits are canonical. If you say: "This doesn't feel like Frank West" well... that's what caring about cannon looks like.
I really don't vibe with this argument at all. Not caring about which events "did" or "didn't actually" happen in fiction is way different than characters being completely different for no reason.
25:44 After recently playing DR2 again, I found out that he shoots off your weapon in the original as well. He only seems to do it if you use a ranged weapon/gun, probably so you cant cheese him with an LMG. Pretty Cool!

Go into the settings, connect your Xbox 360 controller and wait till you see it says “Controller enable”, then turn it off, after that turn in your Xbox One controller and game for some reason will see both as Xbox 360 and you free to play
In regards to Frank's motivation to get in the game - Basically, he was famous for a while after he left Wilamette, had a tv show and everything -- but as time went on, he became more greedy and more... lets say cocky about what he had, he let things get to him, he allowed it to get out of control to which he knew he could've turned things around, but eventually people started to turn on him, so that became a scandel, then the cancellation happens, etc As to "uncover what was really going on" - Remember, the first game's ending texts gives us that Frank had sent word out, but the government denied most of what was happening, so there had to be more to this and what they know than just the Wilamette incident Despite this being a What If game, they tried to connect the story of the first game to this one So it is explained as to why he wanted to go to TIR, but it did obviously left a lot of things unanswered on the details
it was painful to see dorkaxe not roll away from the 4 snipers, considering that’s the way to dodge their shots. they even have a glint right before they shoot so you know when to initiate the roll move
A couple of corrections. There’s two survivors that are hanging by the second floor of the palisades, not just one (The window to get both is rather small). The Sheriff fight did shoot whatever gun you had in your hand in the original DR2 (it still doesn’t shoot off your melee weapons) On another note. I am a bit surprised you didn’t mention how the game starts you off with the roll immediately compared to base DR2 where you start off with no skills. It makes dodging the snipers way easier but I have to agree that they changed the snipers for the worse. Overall, good review!! keeping up with your series of critiques for every entry has been fun and you do bring some good points to all the entries. Honestly, I enjoyed this series so much that I went ahead and checked your reviews for EDF 2017, EDF 4.1 and RE1 review and I’m floored by how youve managed to keep up such a high amount of quality all this time. Keep it up!
My only problem with OTR is that in my opinion it's basically superior to the base version of the game, and every time I want to play dead rising 2 It will always be the OTR version, Even if I really like Chuck.
Also , the song "He's name is Frank" is a great song for what you say about OTR being a DR celebration, i never saw something like this about in game, something that feel like a parody from a fan of the games which fit really good with the tone of the game.
I love how your take on how to fix sexism in games isnt to remove sexism but to make it equally inclusive for both its funny as fucc and i think i can get behind that Edit: Right after posting this i saw your comment saying that it was meant a joke which yea i get it but hey i mean if they did do shit like that in the games i feel like no body would have a right to bitch about it in either direction so 🤷♂
@ashy remember how the original and even this to an extent are mocking not only the whole consumerism thing but 70's B Horror movie schlock as well. From both America and Japan. Watch enough of those and a lot of context is added on such Doesn't make it better or worse. Just explains a lot
Playing through this now and as a grown man I find the leering camera angles just make me cringe and if you're a grown man you should cringe too. The double entendres and psychos with sexual aspects are funny/scary but this game has an issue with gawking that hurts it since it is a really fun game and sometimes even "smart" one.

I quite liked Chuck as a protagonist, and I am surprised he got so much grief. Dead Rising 2 and Off The Record are both great, and I think some fans put DR1 up on a pedestal.
The "eating ass" line was definitely intended to be a joke. The delivery was very poor, and I should have re-recorded it to sound, you know, like an actual joke lol. Just an FYI since this video seems to be gaining traction lately.

Yes
No that was classic dry humor. I want more it was hilarious
Lol 69 likes
Thanks again Dead Rising 4 for screwing more stuff up
Peter Flemming is a stone faced God lets be real here.
Dead rising 4 killed the franchise!

There's nothing in game to allude to this theory, I just think it's logical enough to answer the question
thats a pretty good headcanon
I figured as much aa well.
@@lordsickomodethat's some Disney star wars type of character assassination. Making Frank a fraud when he has always been legit and confident.
Fairly this all was made up
In the first game , frank escape by promising Isabela to tell the story of her town to all the world
When the credits said that the government uses difamation and manipulate facts
To make franks down fall
The biggest fact of why frank was so destroyed by that event is not only because of the events of the first game
But the little that you can get from him in any game
Is that Isabella gets frustrated by he couldn't keep his promises to tell the true about Carlos that started all this to avenge all his village city or something
I have to said no one paid attention to she the text showed in the endings
Every single ending tell a short explanation of what happens when you fail including the ending of overtime that to make sure they make a subjective phrase in red in very end
To put in made even more clear the criticism of the game
There's plenty of sexualization of men in dead rising, as others have pointed out, there are erotica shots for guys like the towel guy, also outfits that sexualize frank/chuck, also with Chuck pretty blatantly designed to be attractive.
"Chuck pretty blatantly designed to be attractive."
Can't disagree, woof
And they say men don't get sexualized in videogames.
Nick's ass in DR3 WOOF
actors like stallone and arnold were literally only hired to show their pecks. But no one talks about them cause it doesnt fit the agenda.
EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS
The Mailman’s I can get behind, but Slappy’s seemed pretty forced with Frank.
@@DeCostaPictures8526 They’re supposed to be insane. Don’t except a reasonable answer
@@NormalfellaStephen that’s fair
Plus they made Slappy more insane than the original by changing his personality into him believing he is an actual toy, so they made him more unhinged

I think this is the first time I've ever heard someone call Chuck boring.
Really? I mean, yeah, he is Father protecting his daughter. But he is fairly boring.
@@Killgore-ip2yq I think chuck is awesome. My favourite protagonist of the series.
Really? Chuck's personality is motor-biking dad and that's it. His motives in the game are to just protect his child (what any dad would do) and clear his name (what any innocent person would do)
Therefore making him so bland he could be anyone, as perfectly shown with how easy it is to swap him out of the game and make him actually interesting by making him a psycho
@@more-reasons6655that same line of thinking is what makes him interesting. The fact that he's just some ordinary dude, that he could have been anyone.
@malachipaul5078 that's the reason why I like Ethan Winters from Resident Evil. He is just a regular guy facing unimaginable horrors.
Anyone else still waiting for the day we get a new dead rising that’s as good as the classics ?😞

I find it a bit ironic to say how these games are sexist to women when there's a few male based erotica shots as well as outfits for Frank AND Chuck like the daisy Duke outfit that they can wear. That one having been shown in this very video as well
The boxers as well can be seen as sexual to a degree for either knowing its still a rather revealing outfit in of itself. And then there's that God damn banana hammock XD
As for the Psycho fights, they sorts do make sense how they act in general.

While hardly moral to kill anyone that moves and stealing there supplies in a zombie apocalypse it’s at least understandable as anyone you meet could lie there way into your good graces just to kill you when your not looking taking into account all the psychopaths and looters in the sequel it’s not an unfounded fear the fact the mother is not seen among them also implies she might have been killed due to the family originally trusting people but even if you can’t feel any sympathy for Roger you can at least feel some for his sons Jack is just doing what is father tells him to do while Thomas clearly doesn’t want to hurt anyone and is being yelled at by the others to follow there code he also probably still fights even if you kill the other 2 first because well you just killed his father and brother it’s hard to fault him for being angry over that
Cletus
While James didn’t deserve to die he was an idiot for not listening to Cletus who makes it clear he doesn’t trust anyone and just wants to be left alone as discussed with Roger his fears have merit and he is far more reasonable as he doesn’t actively hunt down survivors to kill and instead locks himself in his store only shooting those who get near while giving multiple warnings
I could go into the dead rising 2 psychopaths but I’m not sure if you’ll even read this considering this video is 2 years old so I will stop here if you did read this thanks for taking the time to hear me out and I hope your having a good day
There's male survivors with erotica points... The ones from the gambling games when they are left in underwear.
Small things
Firstly, while their dialogue doesn’t perfectly make sense, I like it that the two changed psychopaths are actually somewhat deranged here.
I think if any of the games were to lean into sex the most, it should definitely be this one and it does a fine job.
this game is great. and im happy to see it get recognition.
also sandbox mode shouldve been in every dead rising game as an unlockable, just saying.
These games work so much better on the old generation consoles. In the ports I noticed the game crashes (a fuck ton) and the zombies don’t fully spawn. Like you can see them from across the map but that’s it. They don’t truly exist or become intractable until you get close enough to them. This made sniping completely pointless.
The name dork fits you very well
I don't know, I think the ladies and gays might get a kick out of Chuck's/Frank's banana hammock (or any other more revealing outfits).
“That’s not magic” will always be my favourite one liner ever
i remember the euphoria i felt playing as frank again it’s really sad they ruined the story and frank’s with dr 4
DR4 is Hank East not Frank West
they only say the erectile dysfunction joke because you got below gold on the wrestling match, its different if you get a higher rank
Hey thanks so much, pal! Hope my upcoming DR3 video doesn't disappoint!
I feel like the delivery for the majority of the lines in this game were supposed to be bad on purpose.
They deliver their lines like a low budget zombie movie and that’s part of the dead rising charm. I never thought of it as cringey but part of the humor instead.
Amazing video! The dead rising trilogy (1,2 and off the record) are FANTASTIC!
Who the f... is chuck green???
2:37 rewatching this series after playing off the record and I love that neat editing trick you did here
One thing I want to add to the Chuck bossfight is the music they made for it, the song titled "Firewater."
I listened to the song so many times, it's an actually good and sinister song about alcoholism, and a random goofy boss fight from a random goofy game has no right to have something so good as that song.
I couldn't tell if he was joking with that bit or not honestly
@@nuke4duke167 he made the same points in the first game review and the regular dead rising 2
man that's just cringe
Especially the random occurrence of the zombie’s eating position, yet that part is purely random and was never intentional, that little critic was extremely stupid, and if it was a joke, it sucked
I had to stop watching at that point, the reaching going all the way to zombies playing the eating animation on the origin of the target which might look like it’s eating ass = not erotica was too painful.
Random and unnecessary virtue signalling for something nobody asked about.
After all these years I didn’t know you could loot the looters
The Best DeadRising game in the series
It's Canon to me. Lol could care less what others says
If more DR games happen, I hope they go off of this universe/canon. (I don't usually care about canon, personally, so I get you)
When I first played against the mail man I got a Jingle all the way vibe
Cheesy dialogue from OTR feels like actual dialogue from an actual (cheap) zombie movie.
So, i really dont mind it
He shoots it out of your hand regardless of who you play chuck or frank. :D
Me too, I instantly skipped it. I think the last thing this game was worried about was taking itself too seriously
I liked chuck but my first dead rising was dead rising 2 I don't see why people don't like him
I like Chuck more, now, I think I was a little too harsh on him back in these early DR videos.
5:36 this isn’t sexist 🙄ffs
(Pinned comment, please read.)
y'know what i expected you to have more subscribers and views when i saw the quality of this video. you legit deserve more attention.
I thought you were joking about the sexism, but you were actually serious. Hate to break it to you, but back then, the world was still normal and didn't force all that inclusivity nonsense.
Another great critique on a great series. Looking forward to your Deadrising 3 video :)
Entertaining review and brought up alot of new points nobody or nothing else really did before. You deserve more for your effort :)
I figured the reason why Sullivan and Stacy were ok with Chuck/Frank going around saving survivors was because they figured they'd end up dying out in the city while doing it. Sullivan even comments that it wasn't supposed to go the way it did and chuck was supposed to die in the outbreak
Stacy actively pushing Frank into the story is a much bigger plothole tho
That was not the main reason. Sullivan let Chuck help him, even assisted him because that way all survivors would be on one place and thus it would make all tracking easier for Phenotrans/military.
I wish Brandon didn't kill Vickie though.
55:37 I burst out laughing when I saw TK come out of fucking nowhere and dive into you
16:08 Very late to comment on the video, but I wanted to point out the Voice over dialog.
30:22 I love Frank's expression "I shouldn't have done that" and more with that outfit
The jump and hold x attack for frank in the TK end fight is so powerful, I could’ve sworn you get it in the early level 30’s
I like the off the record more than the normal game i have to say is mostly for frank west
Imagine trying to make a song both inspiring and forgettable but end up making one of the best songs in the game.
Rolling lets you dodge the sniper bullets same for getting up to ther one you have to climb for one dodge and you can climb up to him
25:44 After recently playing DR2 again, I found out that he shoots off your weapon in the original as well. He only seems to do it if you use a ranged weapon/gun, probably so you cant cheese him with an LMG. Pretty Cool!
I think the best frank comment was in terror is reality. After he completes the fighting he says to this guy “IS ANIM EVEN A NAME?”
*the game is sexist*
Capcom: oh really, well. Let's censor the remastered dead rising one since someone complained about it
On their website says they need t bow t consultants.
If someone ever see this comment, there is a glitch, where you can use Xbox One controller without any fixes or programs.
Go into the settings, connect your Xbox 360 controller and wait till you see it says “Controller enable”, then turn it off, after that turn in your Xbox One controller and game for some reason will see both as Xbox 360 and you free to play
In regards to Frank's motivation to get in the game -
Basically, he was famous for a while after he left Wilamette, had a tv show and everything -- but as time went on, he became more greedy and more... lets say cocky about what he had, he let things get to him, he allowed it to get out of control to which he knew he could've turned things around, but eventually people started to turn on him, so that became a scandel, then the cancellation happens, etc As to "uncover what was really going on" - Remember, the first game's ending texts gives us that Frank had sent word out, but the government denied most of what was happening, so there had to be more to this and what they know than just the Wilamette incident
Despite this being a What If game, they tried to connect the story of the first game to this one
So it is explained as to why he wanted to go to TIR, but it did obviously left a lot of things unanswered on the details
Just wanted to say I've been binging your videos lately and they are some fantastic commentary. Thanks for making content I can enjoy.
it was painful to see dorkaxe not roll away from the 4 snipers, considering that’s the way to dodge their shots. they even have a glint right before they shoot so you know when to initiate the roll move
A couple of corrections. There’s two survivors that are hanging by the second floor of the palisades, not just one (The window to get both is rather small).
The Sheriff fight did shoot whatever gun you had in your hand in the original DR2 (it still doesn’t shoot off your melee weapons)
On another note.
That outro was amazing! Thank you
Also , the song "He's name is Frank" is a great song for what you say about OTR being a DR celebration, i never saw something like this about in game, something that feel like a parody from a fan of the games which fit really good with the tone of the game.
I love how your take on how to fix sexism in games isnt to remove sexism but to make it equally inclusive for both its funny as fucc and i think i can get behind that
Edit: Right after posting this i saw your comment saying that it was meant a joke which yea i get it but hey i mean if they did do shit like that in the games i feel like no body would have a right to bitch about it in either direction so
🤷♂
Imagine complaining about a Japanese game sexualizing jugs. Lol it takes some serious lack of awareness to point out how the game isn’t “inclusive”
@ashy imagine complaining about how “misogynistic” Japanese culture is while simultaneously consuming it like a dope fiend
@ashy remember how the original and even this to an extent are mocking not only the whole consumerism thing but 70's B Horror movie schlock as well. From both America and Japan. Watch enough of those and a lot of context is added on such
Doesn't make it better or worse.
@@dudestep well then stop playing Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat because those games have jiggly tiddy physics in them and it makes little bugmen like you squirm
As for the erotica, well, sex sells. It makes sense especially in terms of Frank being a photographer.
If you roll you can dodge the snipers
23:40
If Slappy sounds familiar that's because he is also the English dub for Light from Death Note.
It’s unfortunate Chuck was received as weak in comparison to Frank, Frank is an icon but I really really like Chuck, I think he’s an awesome character and they wrote him really well. Was so awesome to see him and Katie again in 3, not to mention it was really cool to have both protags in coop mode and have them actually interact and banter love this game
18:17 Easter Egg most didn’t noticed Walter is Cosplay as El Chavo del 8.
i honestly consider off the record as the main canon
I quite liked Chuck as a protagonist, and I am surprised he got so much grief.
Dead Rising 2 and Off The Record are both great, and I think some fans put DR1 up on a pedestal.
4:51 lol, psycho murderer Frank
34:17 that guy is the dead body from evan's psychopath cutscene and it's his autographed picture that shows that he's frank west
