1st rule of RE playbook. When in doubt, pull out the Leon/Ada ship.
2nd rule. The Leon/Ada ship must not have a full closure.

Yeah, as much as i do appreciate the fact that (with 7 and the RE:makes) the games have really gone back to a more horror type of vibe with more restrained combat, but i still have a place in my heart for more ridiculous and kinda stupid/cheesy action movie-type RE stuff like 6 and these movies. Maybe RE should go the route of Yakuza, having a split. Like the Yakuza series will go on using that turn based style that was introduced in the latest one, and then the Judgment series will continue with that classic beat-em up style Yakuza gameplay. RE could have titles where you play as new characters like Ethan who are untrained and it could be like 7 or the RE:makes. No roundhouse kicking melee shit, no insane set pieces and gun-fu, etc. then they could have another series where you okay as Leon or Chris or Jill or Claire, whatever. And that series continues the type shit seen in 6. I dont know, just a thought. But it would satisfy both ends of the fanbase.

If I remember correctly there is an after credits scene where Ada meets with her employer for the mission. The feed is a bit fuzzy, but you can clearly make out the ring on her employers hand. This ring is Simmons's ring (The main Antagonist of six). This would imply that Simmons was involved in the war as well as justify his history with Ada in six.

Your description of the 80's Night of the Living Dead and how it changed you, is fantastic. Also my first zombie horror flick as a kid, parents wouldn't let me and my sister watch R movies, so we got our cousin (18+ years old) to rent it for us, and then we stayed up, until our parents were asleep, and started watching it on VHS on my old CRT TV that didn't even have a remote. We watched the opening scene in the graveyard and both agreed to turn it off because it was too scary. We returned the next night after my parents had fallen asleep, and finished the movie. I had nightmares for 2 years straight afterwords and thus began my love for horror, and zombies, and being scared.

  • @teriosshadow17

I actually like this one. Out of the 3 CGI films, I think this is the best out of all them. It also helps Leon has his snarky RE4 self. He also seems more cold and jaded in this one, but still cares about people before becoming depressed drunk. Sure, I wanted more zombies and more suspense. But I liked the film for it's action. The Tyrant battle were definitely my favourite part. I have to admit I like the hand to hand fights in this film especially with Ada and the President. Although I felt the fight between Leon and Svetlana was more style than substance. Svetlana can apparently toss Leon in the air like he is featherweight or something. I don't know what is with Capcom having unstoppable Kung Fu master bad guys in these films, not that I'm against it but making villain overpowered can be either menacing or boring to watch. Like Glenn Arias in Vendetta. Overall, I'd say this was great review, Jared.

  • @thomaswelbourn55

No offense, but it kinda bothers me when people say "they aren't zombies" when a zombie is a mindless drone, something/someone that can't think for themselves, when what people actually mean is "undead" or "reanimated" it's a strange gripe I have so I am sorry, but I know what you mean...
Anyway good review and I hope it doesn't get taken down, and personally I love the evolution of the Resident Evil franchise, there aren't many franchises that have progressed like this and even if you're not keen on the direction it's gone you have to admit it's impressive. I love action movies and games and I enjoy horror, so I really love how this franchise has been able to blend the two, I'm not keen on RE4, but that's mainly story, characters and relevancy to the franchise as a whole, but I really enjoyed 5 and 6, and these movies have a steady progression to the 6 level of action, probably steadier than the games.

I think most people use the Romero definition of the word. Where it's a a dead body reanimated to feed on the living. Sure the voodoo definition of the word has been around longer, but it's not as culturally relevant. Since the 60's we've all had the same idea of what the word meant. Plus even RE4 said they're not zombies.

Since the concept and name of zombies comes from African/Caribbean culture and those zombies were often brougt back from death to serve a master - hence having a goal other than feeding itself - calling Las Plagas "zombies" should be valid. That being said, I never liked Las Plagas (zombies or not) for similar and other reasons. Resident Evil should've stuck to Romero zombies in my opinion. One of the reasons RE4 and RE5 never clicked with me (another one being the addition of Lord of the Rings cave trolls for some reason). I can't even remember if they were in RE6. Man did they butcher the RE universe with RE4. I'm still not over it :-b

I'm not sure if someone has already texted this, but the only real connection the movie has with RE6 is the final scene of Ada. The mysterious man who she is talking with is Simmons, it means she was working for him (he removes all the arrest orders against her, and only some high charge could have done that) and it's quite probably that the Plagas shown in this movie are used to upgrade the C-virus.

    Resident Evil nerd alert:
I don't think the idea of controlling lickers is that dumb. If the master has control plaga inside of them, and lickers got ordinary plaga, then the master can control them the same way Saddler was controlling his men. What dumb is that the control plaga does not affect the host's consciousness, so Buddy wouldn't transform into a Ganado. Yeah, Resident Evil lore is inconsistent.
As for the connection to Resi 6, I think it is inplied that Ada was working for Simmons, or at least the Family. In the last scene, she is talking to someone who's got enough authority to erase her file from the Interpol database, and who could it be besides Simmons or someone from the Family? Problem is, in Resi 6 files, it says thad Ada hasn't seen Simmons since the Raccoon City incident, so there goes another retcon of an already convoluted story)

Man, this movie is just awesome. I remember watching it as a kid, after having watched all the live-action movies (forgive me father for I have sinned xdd) and it was just epic.
A videogame movie that actually resembled its source material and took place in the series' universe, that's something that at the time I had only seen in Advent Children... and apart from the few other CGI RE films... that's still pretty much true :L.
And fuc, it took place in semi-Soviet Russia, how epic is that?!
Also dude when are you going to review the mobile games? Like, the java mobile games heh. Make me happy lmao

And how suprised was I when it FAILED.

I'm pretty strongly opposed to a lot of what you've said about later RE titles and survival horror as a genre, but I'm one thousand percent with you on Las Plagas not being scary. What's frustrating is that, from a gameplay perspective, they're functionally almost identical, so using Plagas means you've gone out of your way to make your enemies less frightening.

I had a similar experience but with me it was 28 Days Later, but I was a lil younger. I know people are pedantic about calling the rage infected zombies, but the Dawn of the Dead remake was also about by the time I saw 28 Days so fast zombies were front and center.
I live in the suburbs of England not far from London, and to see landmarks and places you grew up around being desolate and filled with people you might have known who were now mindless killers was so scary to me.

  • @lordravenblade
    @lordravenblade 3 года назад

The problem is, the slow dumb zombies aren’t a threat. They either need a utterly overwhelming numbers or some extra schtick to more than inconvenience you. In the first game it’s the dogs trapping you in the mansion with basically no supplies (and even then it’s the bosses and faster non-human zombie enemies that are dangerous) and the second and third it’s basically the same, except replace “mansion” with “strangely almost completely gun-free small-ish American city”. Even the REmake of the first game added the Crimson Heads to make normal zombies a moderate annoyance.
This is also the reason movies like the newer X of the Dead and shows like The Walking Dead can spend so much time on their “hurr durr hoominz is da REEL monsturz” pontificating. The zombies are an occasional plot device like the old writing advice “if you don’t know what to have happen next, have a man come through the door with a gun”.

I just got this idea of a Resident Evil animation after I played some Counter Strike Warzone, its called Operation:Umbrella Resistance
Well the story is basically about a team of Umbrella mercenaries sent to investigate a disappearance of a Umbrella plane carrying lots of documents that carries crucial information about Umbrella and a portable nuke that is about to be modified to carry viruses. The mercenaries find that the plane is empty, all documents, along with the portable nuke are gone, the captain informs HQ about this and then after reaching a bridge they are underfire by a resistance group formed to fight against Umbrella, now they have to stop the resistance members from activating the nuke before its too late and take back all the information of Umbrella
this is meant to be a prequel to Operation:Raccoon city
I'm sharing this because of the similarities with damnation

I have it in 3D and I have to say I really enjoyed it. And as someone that's lived in Russia, they nailed a lot of aspects of the culture in those characters. I also want to really compliment how the Japanese distribute their movies. The box is really cool oh, there's only one disc, but that disk has both the 2D and 3D Blu-ray movies on it. I didn't know that was possible because they don't do that in America. And after navigating the menus without understanding what they say, I was able to watch the movie in English, and in Japanese with English subtitles. I watch all the movies before I watch a review so I'm watching Vendetta this week

While I love the stupid action of Vendetta, this is my favorite movie in the trilogy. Honestly hard to believe but also one of my favorite movies of all time. I get that you want zombies and you don't like the control parasites but they make perfect sense. Resident Evil, during the action era, is not just about zombies, it is about B.O.W. (Bio Organic WEAPONS). A weapons that is just as likely to turn around and eat its master is not a very good weapon. They can basically only be used as bombs in a area to clear out all enemies and even then you would still need to clean up any surviving zombies after your enemies. To have BOWs play an important role in the black markets of this world you want better ways to control them. And that is what I love about Resident Evil. The live-action movies ruined the story when they mad-maxxed it and said the ended basically ended as the outbreak consumed the world. THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF THAT! This is modern-day world where viscous monsters are weapons of warfare! The politics and implications of that are fascinating! I get it that you prefer the survival horror world where zombies outbreak and you are just trying to survive. But RE 4-6 and Revelations are about a world where zombies and other BOWs are used as weapons for profit. Our heroes are fighting against that heroically instead of just trying to survive. And personally I love the grey areas this film explores in that war-torn world filled with monsters.
By the way it isn't well-explained or strongly tied to it but I believe the reason this takes place 6 months before RE6 is to show that Leon's faith in the government is jaded as he trusts them less by the time of the game.

This is an entry I need to watch again. I mostly just remember finding some of the characters a little too annoying and it dragging the experience down a notch. Plus, I'm presently playing through _RE6_ so any aspects which loosely connect it to the game, like _Degeneration_ with the Tricell reveal, will be more appreciated than my initial viewing. Still, this might be my least favorite of the CGI films, but I can still appreciate the goofy fun they offer compared to the live-action films.

  • @my2randomcents
    @my2randomcents 3 года назад

The connection to RE6 is that this plaga variation was used to create the c vlrus and was internationally marketed, putting the odds of an outbreak out of the BSAA's hands
Also, thanks to the results of this operation Leon was given the spot as the president's scort and guard
And tbh the fact that it went SO FAR from the formula makes the film pretty great

That is pretty crappy with Sony Pictures giving you a copyright strike. They can't handle someone criticizing their movies. I like the CGI in this one, I do remember when capcom made the Resident Evil movies with the first one being the outbreak with Claire at the airport with Leon as well. Your review is again great as usual. I like the review for the CGI movies since they didn't get much fanfare or did I hear anyone really talk about them much. The fight scenes in any aspect look very well done and it's nice to see a CGI movie where you can turn your brain off and just enjoy the action film.
