    Well, you guys asked for it. It is finally time to check out the Resident Evil motion picture.........well the first CG film. The jury is still out whether or not the live action movies are worth covering. So let's find out if Resident Evil can break out of the gaming genre successfully.

    Another connection to RE2 is when Leon meets Claire for the first time, he tells her to “get down” and takes down the zombie behind her just like in RE2

  • @ReonMagnum
    @ReonMagnum 5 лет назад +85

    There are several details here that fans of the RE games will enjoy:
    1. Leon still using his Handgun from RE4 (AKA Silver Ghost), as his primary weapon.
    2. Claire wearing red like she always does. Also the umbrella she picks up has the same colors as Umbrella Corp.
    3. The organizations Terra Save and Tricell are not throwaway names that appear only in the movie, but are parts of future RE games too. The former is in Revelations 2 and the latter is in RE5.
    4. Leon throwing a knife at G Curtis' giant eyeball is reminiscent of him doing the same thing to Salazar's hand in RE4. And since the RE2 Remake, the giant eyeball is now also a weak spot that can be exploited just like in Degeneration with Leon's knife to the eye.

    At this point nobody in the RE universe should be surprised or be caught off guard by a zombie outbreak now. They should be teaching kids in junior high how to deal with zombies and everybody should be carrying magnums and rocket launchers with flame and acid rounds readily available in God damn vending machines.

      Actually that brings up something that I found interesting but wasn't really touched on in the review.. I liked their interpretation of a world 'woke' to viral zombies and BOWs. At first I thought it was bullshit that the security guard falls for the classic zombie bait scene, but thinking about it more it makes more sense considering that there's now protesters and activists dressing and acting like zombies and making the concept of it happening seem highly unlikely, so you go to remove the troublemaker, then before you know i-BAM! Patient 1.

      A new Resident Evil game taking place in a High School? Maybe have 2 main characters being a 17/18 year student and a teacher of some sort? I like the sound of that, it can bring in the "the characters aren't use to this situation" and it can give us a setting we don't see to often from the RE franchise.

    It was definitely a film that relied a bit on nostalgia and, looking back, does feel like a retelling of the RE2 story but it was certainly an entertaining one through & through. That and this having THE most gorgeous character design for Claire to date makes it a decent treat for the fandom and a win in my book.

    My favorite parts of the movie were the scenes in the airport when the characters were moving through the administrative office areas, the dark and cramped corridors led to a really creepy atmosphere that lent itself well to the kind of horror it was going for. This movie was pretty much my first exposure to much of Resident Evil, and unfortunately that's the same story for Dead Space with its... less than stellar movie.

  • @tylertheguy3160
    @tylertheguy3160 5 лет назад +28

    I like this movie. It's fun, and most of all it's pretty decent, which is saying a lot for a video game movie. My only real complaint is that aside from that one scene where she more or less turns into Deadshot for about ten seconds, Claire doesn't really have any other parts where she's actually fighting. It's relatively minor though and doesn't really deduct from the quality of the movie. By the way, if you don't know, there's actually a cell phone game based on this movie. I haven't played it but I've seen it in action and it doesn't look all that great.

    This movie actually got me into the series story back when I was too terrified to play the original games. I remember falling in love with this B movie schlock cause even to an outsider of the series it was just damn entertaining. @AvalancheReviews Something that I noticed character wise in the writing, Angela is an alpha version of Helena Harper. (Think of Elza Walker and Clare Redfield).
    Heck they share the same voice actress. An over attractive woman that has a sibling involved from a government conspiracy that ask Leon for help. By the end of the story, their family name is cleared and have a flirtatious attitude toward Leon.
    I wished I played Revelations 2 for the outfit mods on PC because Claire's Degeneration outfit is fantastic. Much like the Damnation Leon body armor look I wished was a real outfit to wear.

  • @AthenisKS81
    @AthenisKS81 5 лет назад +12

    This is the best of the three, for sure. Though the Ada/Madame President scene in Damnation is perfection. Damnation just gets a bit bogged down with the story, drawing out scenes for far too long with pointless dialogue. Vendetta... let's just pretend that never happened. I'm not sure how they went from hiring the guy who directed The Grudge films, with the intention of making a scarier movie, to ending up with more unbelievably ridiculous set pieces and plot elements than any of the live action movies (which I do like for what they are). Vendetta even goes out of its way to make Leon unlikable, in the same way 6 did with Chris. It is practically identical.
    As a side thing, you gotta wonder why they made Rev2 Claire so bad with Natalia, after 2 and this movie showed how good she is with kids.

    • @aumsharma8783
      @aumsharma8783 10 месяцев назад

      I guess she was bad with Natalia in that specific moment because of an adrenaline rush because they had been following Natalia forever by then, and since Claire was the hotheaded confident girl we knew, I guess she lost it at the time while Moira was the more chill one, so she was able to keep it together with Natalia

    The plot in some ways even feels like a prototype of RE6, with the action kept to a reasonable level. Hell, both have Leon meeting a woman played by Laura Bailey, who in turn have a sibling that gets mutated as part of a conspiracy plot regarding the Raccoon City incident. Only difference is the villain is just a knockoff of William Birkin, and doesn't get weird Lego Transformer powers that defy everything established in the series.

    I follow your mindset on a lot of the points you make in these videos. I particularly appreciate your take on how it being a movie means that you have to take liberties with the slow and empty parts of the game, which is something I've held for a long time. I see a lot of people say that they want to see a slower, more game-feel live action RE movie but I don't think that would translate too well on screen, but I do think that they can do something like a multi-part series sort of like American Horror Story maybe if they'd want to continue making seasons. I believe the only way to get something like that right would be to allocate a lot more run-time than a movie can provide. (Maybe Netflix wont disappoint us? I won't hold too much hope though.)
    When the first live action Resident Evil came out I had a little enjoyment out of it because it seemed like a one-off plot with game relatable moments, and corny but effective action scenes to move the plot further (I still get a kick out of the laser hallway and love how it always gets reused :P) but then it started trying to mesh in with the game's story while overwriting other parts making the actual characters bland and just sorta there to support all-mighty Jovovich. If the movies had scrapped Alice and instead used the main characters from the game as the lead protagonists, I think the movie would have been at least more entertaining.

    At the end of the movie as Claire and Leon parted, someone said that hopefully, the next time they meet, it would be in better circumstances. Considering this to be canon, it really got to me. How bittersweet that they would meet and team-up again, but part ways when the crisis is over. I loved the game (RE2 original, haven't played the remake yet) and the characters feel quite real to me.

    This came on TV when I was younger with my grandma, she knew I liked stuff like that, so she put it on, and she even thought it was called Regeneration thinking something good would happen, and then the intro sequence happened and the the title revealed Resident Evil Degeneration, I had a good laugh about that.

    Solid video dude, give the rest a go. My brother has thoroughly enjoyed them though he says they're a bit odd in places, considering I ordered the three of them together off of Amazon, I hope they're serviceable. Was not aware of the first CG film though... Looks rather strange by the dvd cover, though I've learned not to judge films of any sort by that notion.

    "Welcome to the Resident Evil.... retrospective." Damn I missed those words so much. And hell yeah I would love to do this for the other two movies as well, because Ithink each one of them is pretty different style wise (they are all action schlock tho and i love them). Would love to see your take.

    Love degeneration and the callbacks (even with the mess ups like Claire having the shotgun in racoon city) these movies give me hope for RE movies on general.i love that they made a mobile game like RE 4 but based off this movie.ive always wanted to play it.

    I love this movie, Claire is one of the best characters in the series and I feel her role got played down a little, but I do realize that they were saying she's not in the physical fight now.
    Leon to me is never very impressive, he always comes off as dull or trying too hard.
    Good video, good to see you trying something different, and I'm sorry, I always seem to just watch your RE content, though I have watched a few others and I'm always impressed with your content.

    Nice to have you back. Yes, the games would translate poorly into movie format, if too direct. There's ways to create a tense film with some horror to spice it up, though, which would be a better RE movie under the lens of the feeling the games convey.
    As you said, the cg movies are more like RE 4 rather than being like 1 or 2, or even 3, which is a tad more actiony. And it's only going to get worse, just like the games. The last one had some of the most over the top action scenes I've ever seen, which was fun, but makes for a rather poor experience for anyone wanting any amount of classic RE.

    even if there are some similarities to Birkin, I really like G Curtis' design! the long spindly arm and the retractable tail makes it stand out among other mutations, and kind of like the 3rd form of Birking I think it stikes a good balance between grotesque and badass

    I would say the brother is this movie is better written as he has a very believable reason for being angry and even though he g-mutated, I didn't feel he was the same as Birkin because we got to know who he was before G, not only as G.

    First CGI was pretty good, second one was easily the best, and the third is such a goddamn cheese fest it's hard to take serious which is unfortunate because the characters look great and some of the action is pretty cool but god dammit there's so much stupid shit in that
