Bought this 3 months ago, its a great lens, and yes stopping down from f1.4 makes a big difference, having said that I went a walk along through Cannon Hill Park in cloudy weather and took a lot of f1.4 and it held up pretty well.

Interesting. I think the background blur looks quite good at f4. Quite smooth and not too distracting.

Thanks for the review Damian. I owe the three small ones, 23,17 and 35. Oh that 35 is a marvel! followed by the 23. This one has a terrible performance @1.4 but at f2 improves dramatically.

Great review Damian, I've owned this lens and it certainly has a lot of "character" but there were too many flaws to correct in post, some I couldn't correct. The old saying is true, you get what you pay.

Nice, thanks a lot for this review?
A question : how do you deal with no-micro jack on Gx80? I see a small micro on your pull😊

Thanks. If I recall correctly I recorded the audio with my Fujifilm X-T4 and synced it in the edit. I did consider getting an atomos which would let me record my gx80 direct to ssd with an external mic because the atomos allows for that. After some while I changed it for a G9, not the same kinda camera but more practical for the channel.
The easiest way though is to record to your phone and sync it after

A shame the lens isn’t quite up to the level of TTArtisan’s other offerings. The context is frustrating on Fuji and I imagine it’d be worse on m43-there just aren’t a lot of budget wide lenses. For the longest time, it seemed like options mostly leap from the ultrawide and fisheye options, straight through to the absolute 25mm lenses, which isn’t even wide on m43. Vintage lenses don’t really fill the gap either, since any wider than 28mm tend to be really expensive, and even then rarely are wider than 20mm without being fisheye.
Then this thing comes around with the absolute focal length of 17mm, so a nice regular wide focal length. I was so eager for my Fuji. If it were as good as the 35 or the 50mm, I think folks would be over the moon for it. Flaws might have been acceptable, if it had some more magic, but it just never really grabbed me.

I enjoyed it more on Fujifilm to be fair and I'm glad it came out. I just hope more companies try something around this focal length.

Yeah, least favorite of the 17/35/50 trio... the 35 performs well, and looks great, on my Pen-F.
