Thanks. Confirms my impressions from Mattius Burling's vid. Just perfect for someone like me who prefers small, manual film SLR shooting. On my XE1 with this and that 50mm f1.2, it'll be a fantastic kit for my faux-film process.
@@DamianBrown I got the 17mm a few weeks ago… nice lens. Only downside is aperture ring is not as “clicky” as the other two (35mm and 50mm), which have a great feel.
Great wrapup as always!!! I love pancakes, so for me it would be cool if they put out some 14mm f2 and/or 23mm f2 pancakes, especially with the barrely design of this trio, they'd still be nice and easy to feel and focus.
I think the lens design scribble looks fine. What I hate is the cursive style logo. To the Chinese it probably looks exotic but it’s just a standard cursive font.
Damn this is a real find, and at 1.4! The samples are great, both closeup and landscape ones. This would be great for street shots. Thanks for the review.
I'd like them to make something very "pancake-like" next. I'm not so bothered about the length of the lens itself but a slim bodied lens would be nice. Leica had the 40mm lens they made with Minolta that was very flat and of course the 35mm f2 was very flat too. I'd like to see that design shape next from TT.
Yeah. A 28mm, ultra thin pancake. Wouldn't have to be too fast (f2 or f2.8 would be fine). Just super slim, light, and reasonably sharp. I wouldn't normally carry a 'normal' lens - just a wide lens like this 17mm and a short tele. But if it adds almost no weight and bulk, I'd happily add one in as a third option.
Nice little review Damian. I'm sold on it. Particularly as you can't really get a wide angle vintage lens when you consider the crop factor. Be fun to try, and if the price is good it's a no brainer. Cheers!
Hi. I enjoyed your video, which comforted me in my beliefs towards the TTartisan lenses. I actually just acquired both the 17mm F.1.4 and the 35mm F1.4 , the 35mm I already received and my first impressions are the same positive , the feel of the lens and also the use, easy focusing and the results are pretty interesting. Looking forward to the 17mm which will equally please me for sure, given the price you can't go much wrong with them.
Thanks very much for this concise, expert review. Your samples were also very helpful. Mine has been in the pipeline for twelve days, and is now within 100 miles, so I'm anxious to get it on the X-T4.
Thanks, I've been waiting for this review on your channel. P.S. we are still waiting for Viltrox 18 f/1.4 aren't we? :) But maybe Sigma releases its x-mount lenses earlier, who knows.
thanks for the quick overview. i do wonder if the depth of field scale is actually accurate this time around. on the 50mm, it seems to be much more of artistic or design piece rather than a functional element.
In past life, was manual focus only, then AF. Happy with manual focus for the wide angle glass side of imaging as can basically zone focus, using f5.6, 8, 11 etc. Bright red focus peaking on my XT2 makes manual focussing pretty easy, but no way on moving human type subjects e.g portraits where bodies like the a6400 &it's stellar focus really means I, at least, need AF lens. For wider apsc bodies, would love Artisan in 14mm and 16mm Would just add that I save for a long time to purchase quality glass for life...do not want to incur cost of purchasing numerous lens of same focal length and speed.
An optical diagram on the lens... now there's a unique idea. Good review. I did notice the slight vignetting, but it wasn't bad...remember the days when people would do that deliberately in the darkroom to give the photo "character"? 😉😅
Would love a small 70mm 2.8 lens to fill the short telephoto niche. Loved the 105mm focal length, back in the film days, which a 70mm would be equivalent to.
Very informative. Thanks for your efforts. My first thought was this on a X-E3 or X-E4 and some kind of MF 35mm on a second body would be good for extended travel in to austre places where you are doing stories about the locals. Thanks for the heads up about the other channel. Update,,,OK watched his vid. Surprise he is using it on a X-E4. Looks very handy. I have put this lens on my for further interest list. Thanks again.
That 13mm seems to have been put back from what I can tell but I don't think they will ignore our constant shouts for it especially as they told us it would be Q1 and it didn't happen. Last thing they told me was that they were going to put out some cine lenses first :(
Hi, I currently have a Pen-F and Sigma 30mm 1,4 and am very happy but unfortunately too big. I am interested in a bright compact lens mainly for street photography and I am undecided between the two TTartisan lenses 23mm 1,4 (plus compactness) and the 17mm (plus focal but less compact) what do you recommend? I would have doubts about their sharpness, to be picky, the potential that the two lenses have in post-production both with open and closed aperture.
Thanks. Yes, usually you can go walk around the outside of the stadium, take photos etc and I've done it a few times no problem. I think because they were under covid restrictions they used that as an excuse to be very rude and move me on. There was nobody near me, everything was open to walk around, so no need for them to be like that as I wasn't breaking any rules. I guess they were bored.
Been waiting for this lens since it was casually announced back in October. It may have CA wide open and other minor flaws, but how many 28mm equivalent lenses are there for the Fuji Mount system? Not many, besides Fuji's 18mms. In my opinion, there should be more and congrats to TTartisan for making that possible, especially with a clicked aperture. Lord knows, when 7artisan or whomever comes out with one next, it will be de-clicked, which is fine for video, I'm one of those photographers that likes clicked apertures. Can't wait for this to be on sale on Amazon/Pergear. I suppose it's coming this week?
That's what they said to me, I had to hold off publishing for a while because of a manufacturing issue... hopefully they'll answer me today about it being available.
@@DamianBrown I'm grateful for the review. Pergear/TTartisan have been pretty apologetic about the slow manufacturing speed. I'm just really excited for it. I check for it multiple times a day, when I get up/before I go to sleep. I see it's on Amazon UK, but doesn't ship here to the states. I hope to order it by the end of the week.
I bought a 7-Artisans fish-eye 7.5mm f/2.8. micro 4/3rds. Brilliant lens, my only criticism it has no connection to the camera body for such things as focus
Nice lens. I'd love to see TTArtisans (or another maker) create a decent budget 10mm f2, for those of us without the cash to splash on the Fuji 10-24mm.
@@DamianBrown I think that's the only criticism I can really level at the Fujifilm X system, that it doesn't really licence the X-mount out to 3rd party lens manufacturers such as Sigma, Tamron or Tokina. I'd love some of the Sigma ART lenses for my X-T2.
Hi! Thank you for the review! I am curious about the focusing scale. Have you checked if it is correct? I know that in previous models it was close to unusable.
It was close, at least my copy was. I find a lot of the lenses at this end are a little off and I have to dial back from infinity a lot but doesn't stop me.
Nice review as always, but I am afraid this is not the lens for me. I would have preferred to see something much more compact, if slower. Shame really, as I like their 50mm (especially so) and 35mm offerings, which I find to be the best of the cheap MF lenses in these focal lengths.
I really like the look of this one, pity about the crappy 'art' on the side, I wonder if that will come off with some alco-wipes? [maybe just a bit of black tape will do for re-sale purposes] love that it can focus down to 20cm [you say 0.28 in the vid but it's 0.2 according to the Pergear site], not quite as close as the 16 1.4 but for this money, noice! Can't see it available anywhere atm though
Alco wipes and a very light sanding? Could work! Ye the availability thing... annoying. They asked me to not put it out then said end of the month and here we are, almost end of the month I guess :D I'm chasing them up today.
Finally! :)) Have to admit though this review is a bit on the lazy side, which is a bit disappointing. As an example, I have noticed heavy chromatic abberation wide open on my smartphone's screen - yet it is not mentioned in the material at all. There's also an excellent, in-depth and very honest review of this lens in Polish made by x-man on his YT channel; you may want to have a look as the samples provided there need no understanding of the commentary. Thanks for the video!
Lazy? It's a free video, sorry. Thanks for the heads up about the polish vid tho! I think if you can see a quality or defect, it doesn't always need mentioning with words - at least not all the time especially as I talk about how the lens is to me, as opposed to going through every possible detail as others might do. That's partly why the sample shots are simple unedited random shots. As you said with the other guy, no need to understand the commentary if the samples show the quality/ defect. Other guys and girls are welcome to do the scientific reviews.
