  • Based on the Neil Brand's critically acclaimed radio play of the same name, this 2006 BBC production follows Stan Laurel's last visit to his dying friend and comedy partner Oliver 'Babe' Hardy and Stan's subsequent coming to terms with the ghosts of his past. Jim Norton plays the elder Laurel, and Trevor Cooper portrays Oliver Hardy. The young Stan and Ollie are played by Nik Howden and Mike Goodenough.

    Among the many things that amaze me is how, even among professional actors who love and revere Stan and Laurel, NO ONE has been able to even come close enough to imitating them, even when the actors trying to do so gives it their all.

    Not bad actors but when they act out the movie scenes of them it goes to show that the originals were masters in it. The jokes fall totally flat when they try to portray them.

    Both in this and the Stan & Ollie movie, Olllie looked the more like the original Norville Hardy.

    Laurel and Hardy in space would have been incredible. There's so much they could have done, especially nowadays when the world is even crazier than it was in the 30s and 40s. The what-if in space by Stan was brilliant.

    Oh God! Sputnik was launched in October of 1957, roughly two months after Oliver Hardy's death! Talk about inaccuracy!

  • @lazurm
    @lazurm 5 лет назад +2

    Technical error!! The article read to Oliver by Stan was about the Sputnik launch. Trouble is that the first Sputnik was launched 10/4/57 and Oliver died on 8/7/57 so this headline couldn't have possibly been read while Ollie was alive.

    they are way too serious in this! The actors seem nothing like their real life counterparts! All in the name of drama, I suppose...

    They needed a much cuter actor to portray Stan. This guy is not at all lovable.

    This movie portrays Stanley as a self centered ass who cares about no one but himself! And they made Ollie scared of Stan(at least that's what it looked like) I hate when movies like these butcher two really good peoples personalities! I know the real laurel and Hardy would give this two thumbs down!

      I know the real Stan wasn't ANYTHING like he is portrayed in this movie! I've seen videos of him on here and he seemed like a nice guy. =)

      I like your point of view.
      But I don't think Stan is portrayed as self centered ass. He was so desperate to success.
      I love Stan so much. Stan and Hardy will be always loved.

      Most Hollywood historians and Laurel and Hardy experts said that this was a fairly accurate portrayal. It's not saying Stan was evil. Just showing him as a flawed human being like the rest of us.

    Why does Hardy have British accent. That's not artistic liberty, that's just problematic toward accepting the character.
