My Visit to Oliver Hardy's Final Resting Place

  • His remains are in Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood, which I live only about 20 minutes away from!
    I also recorded the fountain because it's so beautiful, and to help people find his grave for whomever wants to go and find him and pay their respects like I did :)
    This is the first time I put a video together from other clips and with music! Sorry it's shakey, I used the movie maker on my Sony CyberShot, so it's not an actual video camera I'm using ^^;
    R.I.P. Hardy, you and Laurel were such a great and funny duo, and still are today ^_^

    I'm 70 and as a kid and an adult I loved them both. Their show was on a Saturday afternoon. I never missed one and neither did my friends. What's missing in our world is good old fashioned laughter at something stupid or something we would do. Now everything has to have a huge amount of special effects, to be considered "worth watching". Thanks Stan and thanks Ollie.

      CORRECT, BUT FAR WORSE, WE ARE 'TREATED' TO CANNED LAUGHTER, TELLING US 'WHEN' TO LAUGH, WHAT AN INSULT.

      True, Saturday was a fixed appointment, it was a spontaneous and genuine comedy, one of those that no longer exist today.

    When Oliver Hardy died, his bereft widow Lucille provided a plain marker for his grave that simply said "Beloved Husband." However, his fans - and they are legion - felt something more needed to be said. A second, larger plaque was added that read: "A Genius of Comedy / His Talent Brought Joy and Laughter to All the World." No truer words were ever written. Rest in Peace, Stan and Babe.

      "God's FINEST creation: "the GIFT of laughter". "I named my Son after the man" ... Later I would try to name my last Son "Stan", but being I named the first two, (God blessed us with 3 Son's), "I let my wife name him" (I lost).

      I'VE JUST BEEN WATCHING THE BOYS, AGAIN, ON MY PILE OF OLD VHS TAPES. MANY TAKEN FROM TV, AND NOT VERY GOOD COPY'S. AS I HAVE RECENTLY BOUGHT ALL THEIR TREASURED MATERIAL ON DVD, I'M ABOUT TO 'RECYCLE' THESE TAPES, BECAUSE SADLY, NOBODY WANTS THEM NOW, OR, HAVE A MACHINE TO PLAY THEM ON.

    I've got a thing for headstones. Happened to me while deployed to Diego Garcia and I discovered there were REALLY, REALLY OLD ones. Been fascinated with grave sites ever since! This is a SWEET, WONDERFUL tribute to Oliver...I really enjoyed seeing the stars, too...Thanks so MUCH for posting this. You can't know how much it means to me...I'm an old movie/t.v. fan...I almost feel like I am intruding and uninvited on this event...But I love him...OH DEAR...What a TALENT! He will NOT be forgotten...

    There are so many things about L&H that still make me smile, but if I had to choose one nugget it would be Mr Hardys fastidious and graceful attention to his tie, hat and attire even after having climbed out of a pool of mud. And of course those priceless looks to camera. Its been said before: what would comedy have been like without these two gifts?

    @Ducky888888 I very much agree with you, I was very surprised by it. They gave him a plaque but his grave is still hidden and I was hoping my video could also help people ,who want to visit and pay their respects, find it because that place is huge and the info on the internet wasnt much help but was all I had to go by when I went to find him. He does deserve more than that, not just having a tiny plain grave with a plaque on the stone wall.
