  • Laurel and Hardy fan Paul Aungiers wrote to the BBC to ask them if they might consider releasing the famous Laurel and Hardy documentary - OMNIBUS IN HOLLYWOOD - 'CUCKOO' onto DVD.
If you don't recall this documentary, you can watch the preview video posted with this message.
Cuckoo was narrated by Morecambe and Wise and featured so many people genuinely qualified to talk about Laurel and Hardy. Jerry Lewis, Dick Van Dyke, Babe London, Marcel Marceau, Lucille Hardy (Ollie's wife), Bob Monkhouse, Hal Roach, Marvin T Hatley, Jack McCabe and many more. It was last broadcast in April 1976. It was by far the best and most enjoyable programme ever produced about the boys and the full documentary is over an hour long..
The BBC replied they they would only consider a release if there was substantial public demand, therefore, in an effort to persuade the BBC, we have made this petition on facebook, youtube and on the Laurel and Hardy Forum.
We will send the petition off once we reach 1000 names.
To sign the petition yuo can either add YOUR NAME and WHERE YOU COME FROM to the comment section below the clip here on youtube... or join the facebook group and sign the petition there - www.facebook.co...
Alternatively you can sign the petition at the Laurel and Hardy Forum - www.laurelandha...
    Every name helps.

I missed them so dearly. I wish they were still alive. Laure/hardy brought so much joy to every family and they were my favorite show when I was a kid growing up. I would run home wherever I was just to watch them on tv.
    Rest In Peace

thank you for allowing people to view this wonderful footage. great to see stan watching his own movies. the bbc dont seem to screen any laurel and hardy anymore, which is a shame because people of all ages would love them. a couple of years ago they used to put them on quite a lot on bbc 2. its time they were screened again.

Fantastic! What a wonderful documentary this must be. I will definitely be signing that petition! Very touching hearing Lucille talking about Ollie's final months. I'd go as far as to say that Laurel and Hardy are the most loved entertainment act ever. Just genius.

Wonderful snapshot of documentary. Thoroughly enjoyable. Great insight to behind the scenes on set, others actors of that time, filming process and the wonderful and adoring comments from many in the cinematography, acting and comedy industry. Just lovely. Thank you.

I had the privilege to work on the edit of this film. Robert vas was the Hungarian producer at the BBC. He was brilliant and a real fan of Stan and Ollie. As can be seen from the wonderful interviews with contributors. Not an ounce or hints of conflicts between The two. Born to be with each other . The new film I fear will try and not do that . Sadly Vas died young and has been largely forgotten. He made a series of very special films at the BBC. I hope they have retrospective of his work one day.

This is a great documentary {with one sour point. Kenneth Tynan getting it so wrong with his nasty, nonsensical comparison to Pozzo and Lucky that I want to time-travel to slap him or give him a nice Laurel and Hardy kick up his fundament.} They were, uniquivicly, Vladimir and Estragon as Samuel Beckett has said] Worked on the edit?? Very impressive. What a lovely thing to be able to claim. So you worked at the BBC when it was at it's most creative, bold and innovative. A golden period when it solidified it's reputation as being the best in the world. In an ideal world you'd be someone to have a pint or three with. Fair play to you John Lee.

The BBC replied they they would only consider a release if there was substantial public demand - how can there possibly NOT be enough public demand for 1 of the 3 greatest comedy duos ever? Come on BBC, just research how many L & H fans there are in the UK. Or watch 1 or 2 of L & H's classic films - and try NOT to laugh and be impressed!
Petition signature please - Tony Heath, from Gosport (originaly Portsmouth), Hampshire.

This may sound off, being that I am a devoted fan of the Team, but it annoys me that programs focus mostly/squarely on Stan alone, and ignore or downgrade Oliver. Laurel himself knew the value of his teaming with Hardy, but others think of Oliver as just being there, with little if any worth. RIP, Laurel AND Hardy.

What hurts them with the youth especially is that their work is in black and white, mostly. But as to comedy, it holds up very well. Stan was a genius. He was a smart man, too, One can tell from brief remarks, replies, and observations.
I love Babe, too. Great timing and a great foil for Stanley. I like Lucille Hardy's comment about Babe's sensitivity regarding his weight. I sensed this in the This is your Life appearance. The host was not kind, but Babe went along with it, so as not to ruin the show.
I did not like Jerry Lewis' comments. Nearly incoherent. The essence seemed to be supportive, but mostly babble. A disservice to this tribute.

Hey, the Three Stooges were B&W and kids *love* them! As a youth in Texas in the early '70s watching classic two-reelers and cartoons on Houston's indie Channel 39 for a couple of hours every morning before school, my beef with L&H was mainly that you never knew whether they were gonna be talking or silent (the station made no attempt at any sort of order in their kiddie programming) and the two formats require completely different levels of attention and mood to fully enjoy them.
Silence, of course, was the equivalent of B&W today; it was viewed as archaic and inferior, but we at least vaguely understood that the funny men couldn't help that they lived in a time before sound was discovered. And we definitely knew they *were* indeed funny -- in spite of their tragic handicap!
The same applied to a lesser extent with the Our Gang shorts and even the cartoons. Chaplin was silent, which was a drawback, but at least you always *knew* he would be silent! And similarly, even with their baffling lineup changes, the Stooges were always the Stooges -- and if there's anything kids hate and resent, it's when things they depend on seem to be arbitrarily changing!
