HARD OFF Retro Game Run in Tokyo (Hachioji)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 мар 2021
- I went out to west Tokyo to do some game hunting at a BIG Hard Off location and I came away with a bag full of games. It was a bright sunny day, perfect for going on a long walk and digging up some retro games.

A brand new Retro Game Run with Jim!? Awesome, the evening is saved.
Would go to bookoffs almost every weekend when I studied abroad in Japan, these vids bring back some awesome memories 👍
I love the money cabinets the most. That's the stuff dreams are made of. =)
I am playing Tokyo Xtreme Racer atm. So seeing that opening was just too awesome :D
I would pay $100 for a proper sequel of TXR. Damn you genki!
Love that game, it was my first DC game I got along with the console, played it to hell and back.
Gotta try it out!
I make it a point to go to this location every time I'm in Japan. Some of my best pick-ups at that location, and know that walk it takes to get there very very well. Thanks for the awesome videos!
More of this please! Love it. Thank you.
More on the way!
Wow that is a lot of box SFC game my man! Good to see you coming back strong!!!
Thank god Jim is back.
I have missed these kind of video's. Thanks Jim, good stuff :)
My pleasure.
So Glad your back Jim. Where else can you see the money cabinet { Neo Geo} retro goodness and hear the Jazzy Xylophone tunes. It doesn't get better.
Ah man....those stores are amazing. Super jealous. Great video. 😋👍
This is great to watch with the kid before bed. Love seeing what things go for in Japan.
Everytime I visit Japan (sadly it's been 15 months since the last trip), I make sure to walk out of this Hard Off with a ton of goodies. Definitely worth the visit, if only to check out the fantastic selection of pretty much everything else in the other Off shops.
This is actually my go-to Hard-Off store whenever I go to Japan. They have such a variety of catalogue, the space is pretty big, and less crowded.
Dduuuddeee!!!! Glad to see these again and I got that awesome package, felt like Christmas 🙌🙌🙌🙌 thank you sir 🙏🏼🙏🏼
5:50 sounds like Minnesota Fats from Sega Genesis but CD quality haha! Thanks for the videos Jim!
The music, the scenery, the games,
I love it!
Ahhh. I missed these vids. Good to see you out and about again, Jim.
Thanks! Feels good to be back at it.
Cordless handy cam system for PS1 was something never knew of its existence :-) Nice way to start video with looking surroundings!
I've been waiting for these.
I've been wanting to make more, finally had the chance to hit the road for a day. Hopefully there'll be a lot more to come in the near future.
That is my favourite Hard Off in the Tokyo area, been there a few times now and it's just such an awesome place. the walk from the train station is pretty fun too, there is a nice little Book Off that has a small but decent selection of games. I really missed not being able to go last year and I didn't think I'll be going this year either but at least I will have a big pile of cash saved up to buy lots of goodies when I can go.
Great to see a Hard Off video again! It may be more expensive than most, but there were some interesting games at least. Bomberman 94 would be a pick up for me, and Coryoon... would be very tempting. Speaking of the glass case, Magical Pop´n is a cult game in Japan. I´ve heard the voice actress previously were in... adult videos which has made the game coveted by collectors. To us westerners it´s just a good game we can´t afford.
Jim! These new videos are great. The balance between commentary and just music in the background is really good. You are a pro at this man, the video is really smooth
Dude, thank you! Considering I was under the influence for most of this process, that's very high praise indeed.
The back ground music Rocks !!!
I'm glad you're back Jim!
This has been my go-to Hard Off for a few years, but last time in 2019 they had installed those "stop impulse buy locks", so I didn't buy much.
I remember there being a lot of more the "stop loks" installed back then, almost every loose cart was behind one.
Last time I was there, a donut cart was set up out front...soooo delicious! Hope they’re still there doing business.
You're doing what I'd be doing if I was there right now... 👍😷❤️🇯🇵
Amazing video as always
You have the best B role. Love the sites and sounds of Japan. Always enjoy your vids
Great to see another Retro Game Run video Jim. I order Chinese take out again with Chicken Chow-Mein, Chicken Fried Rice, Shrimp Eggroll, Won-Ton soup, and a can of Ginger-Ale to enjoy this from you bro. 8^)
Anthony...
I love retro gaming hunting and the place had a massive selection i would have gone broke there
Miss Japan so much. Might be able to go again in 2023. Feeling the itch to do some retro game shopping again. lol
A copy of Eyefull Home just sitting in that case! Insane!
I couldnt wait anymore for this kinda of stuff, JIM...again, welcome back eheh...and yep, FIGHTING STREET is a bad game but i love it too...memories of me playing the arcade version, believing it was KARATE KID (ahah)...while abusing my grandpa's money at the ARCADE xD
For me, it was SF2 at the convenience store my aunt and uncle ran, getting quarters from the register.
@@MadPanicGaminga better start than mine, for sure xD
Brilliant love these game hunts
It is so sad seeing the alleys filled with loose games when before i only saw boxed ones😭 loose was for the bargain bin ジャンク
The times, they are a changing.
love the sonic mania song in the beginning of the video 👍👍👍
I am a simple man.. I see Jim's new video for retro game hunting.. I click "like".... :D
I see a comment like this, I click "love". :)
This commentary reminds of an Episode of the Simpsons where Homer gives Flanders a cassette tape at a museum to explain the exhibits and it's just a lady saying "This is nice, this one is nice too, oh this one is nice." Lol kool games though they are nice.
That's one expensive Hard-off😮. That's the difference between shopping in Tokyo vice smaller cities near me. I may not get the large variety but I do get some great gems for a cheaper price.
I missed these.
I like these vids and watch them not just for the game pickups, but also to get streetwear fashion ideas (not much for this one as crowds are thin, as it should be). Stay safe out there
I've missed these so much - feels like forever since the last one.
It's definitely been a while, feels good to be back at it. Months long state of emergency here threw everything out of whack.
20:24 a wild TkyoSam is spotted in the background
Hey Jim - Glad you're back - did you enjoy your Hiatus?
Meh, 50/50, I've been working my ass off which is mainly why I needed a break.
Awesome!
Every video, the Money Case gets more and more games added to them, and the prices continue to climb higher and higher. Man oh man do I wish this price bubble would collapse, because some of us don't collect to one day turn a mass fortune, but to play and enjoy the games.
9:30, the 4th SFC Goemon game, extremely good game, recently got English translated along with 2, 3, and the Ebisumaru spinoff game, 1st game also saw a retranslation. First PS1 Goemon game (Space Pirate Akogingu) also saw a translation by the fans. Hoping to see the third PS1 game translated someday.
Tiny Toons 2 in the US is subtitled, Trouble in Wackyland.
15:22 Don Doko Don 2 (complete with sunfaded label, loose cart only) for around $12, Ebay sellers trying to scalp buyers by selling it for far higher.
Sickkkkk vibes!!!
Game time is a great time!
A highball magically appeared in my hand when that intro kicked in. Ah yes, another retro run w/ Jim 🥃
Just started watching this, and there is a Liquor Off there too? I knew about them, but wondered what they look like. Hoping to see something a bit different. Just a shot?
I thought better of it, decided not to stop by.
@@MadPanicGaming Maybe next time then. Jokes aside though, I'd just love to see what one looks like. But, I understand, this is a games channel, not adult beverages channel.
You should do a “Cheaper in Japan” themed video... showcasing the disparity of rarity and demand of certain games available in Japan compared to the scarcity and price of other games in the states. Of course there will be games like the Squaresoft/Enid games we all know about... but what about others? Like... what does a copy of Sonic Wings SFC cost compared to the US port Aero Fighters? I think that will make people want to learn to speak Japanese.
I had something like that in mind, it was supposed to be part of a series of buying guide videos, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
This clip make me want to win the lottery!
Med your big fan from Africa go kid
Thank you!
Comfy time.
Wow wat a video Japan is great!
YES!
Yo I would take every single one of those copies of Christmas Nights if you wanna throw them in a box for me lol would love love love to have them here in my shop in the states
Great video! For the Biohazard games, do you need to know any Japanese?
Not really, they're not very hard to navigate and all of the voice overs are still in English. If you've already played through the English versions a few times, you shouldn't have much trouble.
I saw R2 in Surugaya in Akiba in 2018 for like 114,750 JPY. Quite a price jump even with the manual.
Liquor off is the only one where the goods aren't used, I guess.
I like the new intro!
Thanks!
$1400? holy spaceballs.
Alone in the dark for the 360 in the money case. That game is $3 bucks at gamestop
no doubt Jim is the best at these kinds of videos
Much appreciated. :)
Always loved Jim's retro hunt videos! Great content sir! One question, what's the name of the anime girl playing arcade in the transitions of your videos?
Awesome video as always, Jim!
Just got a gbc as a birthday gift, care to sugest any cool games?
Not too familiar with the library actually, maybe the Dragon Quest games available for it?
@@MadPanicGaming i' ll be sure to check them out. Thx!!!
Yay.
whoa, $350 for a boxed popeye's english play? geeze! but its been a while since i added to my import ps2 collection (last game i grabbed was off an amazon store a 'best hits' edition of CVS2) i might have to rectify that soon.
What Donkey Kong game is that in the "Money Case" at the beginning of the video?? Its in the top left corner... I just dont remember Donkey Kong being on CD and those look like CD cases...Not unless they did release Donkey Kong for the Nintendo Wii and I just dont remember it... Great video as always.
Have you ever bought one of those boxed plastic wrapped consoles? If so, were you allowed to open the box in the store? Would be a bummer to have a nice box and a yellowed console..
I've bought plenty of consoles from Hard Offs, they're usually pretty good about letting you take a look at everything before buying,
Is this the one about 10 minutes away from Hachioji station? I'm thinking of going there when I can.
you are giving me classic game room vibes. are you mark re-incarnated?
How often do you come across Kitchen Panic for the PS1 these days? What’s the current price? I never see it listed on eBay any more. I almost picked it up a few years back but I fear I missed the boat on it...
it seems the akiba prices are now the norm everywhere... things got more pricy because of covid ?
Is this the hard off at Hachioji Owada? Or any others Hard Off at Hachioji?
Hi I’m looking to come to Japan when the world is a little better. I’m wondering how’s the market for Japanese Pokemon games from Gens 1-3? I almost never see them as the focus for these kind of videos on YT. Thanks a lot!
I wish I could say but I know less than nothing about Pokemon games. I've literally played one in my entire life.
@@MadPanicGaming That's no problem my guy, different strokes for different folks. I appreciate your content and your time for answering my question!
i wonder how much money arnold was paid for making that one commercial ? lol
I was thinking about getting a Japanese Sega Saturn I seen one here were I live
I bought one a few months back and am pretty happy with it, especially if you've never owned a stairn before
1:15 is that young Arnold ?
Liquor Off? Only on her birthday...
I miss japan
No junk section? :'(
Oh, just wait until next week. :)
@@MadPanicGaming Nice
