HARD OFF Retro Game Hunting in Tokyo (The BIGGEST and the BEST)

- Today, I traveled out to west Tokyo, to the neighborhood of Hachioji for a good old fashioned retro game hunt at Hard Off. This was literally the biggest and best stocked Hard Off I've ever been to, and a long with my little buddy Destiny, we picked up A LOT of games!

ahhhh finally! lol im ready for this one lol
How long was the walk from Hachioji station to that specific Book Off ???
@@Hashiriya714 oh yeah that’s a good question. I would like to know too
@@Hashiriya714 dude it was. walkkkkkk for sure lol
@@MrScott2345 I picked up a TON of games while visiting lol
@@DestinyFomo 30 to 45 min walk ???
Considering this episode, I can see a major upgrade in the channel Jim. It was a good decision of yours to share the channel with people that have a great appetite for making good content. Edit, music and the whole run of the episode looks brand new and it’s great. Also you have nice people to accompany you around! Thanks for the video and congrats to Mad Panic Gaming Team
Amazing! Welcome back, Mad Panic & Destiny!
Thank you!
Great hunt and video as always. Loving the new logo and great pickups.
I'm loving the retro commericals. So good 😊😊😊
You could do a hour long or 2 hour long pickup with you & Destiny !!! And we would all watch it!!!
Maybe next time she's in town
They should call that place the Super Off! Amazing selection there. Loving the new intro Jim. The videos just keep getting better.
Thanks bud, but you ain't seen nothin yet, we're working on some killer stuff right now.
I enjoy seeing these unique and region only games. Cool video. ^_^
Wow amazing video! Loved the games shown in the store.
Thank you!
Great video thank you!
More retro game store hunts are perfect Jim. awesome video thanks for sharing 🆒👍🎮 Destiny is awesome to
Thanks bud
@@MadPanicGaming Your welcome 👍👍
What a haul!!!
Also Ys commercial and Ys music is chef's kiss.
Video made me bring out some of my retro games for a classic gaming night
love the music !! great video !
Many thanks
Great stuff Jim
Thank you!
Damn, views are on point for this video Jim! Hell yeah.
My favorite place to hunt for random junk in all of Tokyo. I live in Tachikawa (I see you were just out here?), so just a 10 minute train ride away (and a 15 minute walk from Hachioji, Station). I've found some amazing stuff in their junk-bins. They used to have giant bags of junk for 500 yen - but they stopped doing that sadly.
Are we there yet? NO! Are we there yet? NO! 🙂 Nice Jim & Destiny Team work!
Got to have my little sidekick
Nice video and content 🎉
i really like your videos i have a bunch of famicom games on an emulator box but have a hard time playing because i dont understand the language but there are some i play anyway lol but your videos are really awesome i like seeing all the different video games and systems
Super famicom boxes look incredible. Super Aleste is absolutely incredible btw. One of my favorite games of all time.
Yeah, it's awesome, feels like playing a PC Engine shooter on your SuFami
Cool video. This looks like the spot to pick up games.
It's always a Steve. Steve you bastard.
great video, I just wished that I could comment in VR, lol 😆, but I can always comment on my tablet, I seen this video on my vr, but could not comment lol 😀, you have awesome videos, I will be moving to Japan in mid to late August, hope to see you in Osaka...
I love these videos that you do
Nice vid bro
Planning a trip to Japan, and a big part of what I'm hoping to do is spend time in Book-Off and Hard-Off. This was a cool video! Also, the Virtual Boy is great, normie
I'm not sure if I want to try getting a fat, Japanese PS3 (so I can play JP PSX, PS2, and PS3 games), or a Japanese Wii (for GC and Wii games). The Fire Emblems seem a lot more affordable over there for the one side, but on the other hand, Boku no Natsuyasumi seems like a really interesting series.
Well, Jim. someone has stepped up their game!
That Starfox 64 japanese box looks so badass.
It does indeed
Super Aleste is definitely one of the best shoot em ups on the SNES (Compile and the Aleste series started out on MSX). Lovely condition box (mine has a fair bit of spine fade).
That Hard Off looked absolutely huge, other than the couple of items in the glass case did you see any other MSX items there? Might have to use Jim's services in the future if so.
Love hachioji hardoff, would love a picture of that pixel art on the table. Want to make a sign for the basement 🙂
This is the first time I've seen you and your voice reminds me of Mark from the Classic games room channel.
I have to agree with you on Goremon 2, it's an excellent game!
I can bike at walking speed comfortably behind someone until an opening and go full blast!
You had me at Jordan's and Chucks!
I just went to the Hachioji hard off yesterday (mid October 2023) and was sad to see the supply really run dry since my last visit there in 2019.
That FC game...japanese Trojan (port of the titular capcom arcade game)...spartan x is japanese kung fu master btw..very good game hunt..keep up, as usual, mate ^^
Yes, thank you! The name always escapes.
@25:00
Steve Bailey scooping up all the good stuff for foreign buyers lol
Jim, new camera? Great quality video
Still using my GoPro Hero 9, but it looks better when I have a lot of light. It's perfect on sunny days.
There’s a few games I think would be cheaper just to get the Japanese version of rather than getting NTSC, SMT Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha Vs the Soulless Army comes to mind. It’s like $200+ for the English version.
Hard-Off have a great selling system to the buyer to find and show the stuff the price and condition.
Fun video I wish I can go game hunting with u god bless 🙏🏿💚
Video was great wish the store you went to had a online shop
thanks so much for this video. Give us the redux 3h long final director's cut !
lol, perhaps
Please post the 3 hour director's cut!
Catchy rock music at begin.
Love those japanese retro store videos 😃👍 i saw you were using a gopro in your video. Did you experience any problems with overheating? I'm thinking of buying one but i heard they have a lot of overheating problems? Great video!
It heats up for sure after a while, but so far there's been no damage to the camera as a result or to the batteries and sd cards. I typically have it mounted on a small tripod or handle while filming for extended periods.
Im getting so excited. Heading out there april. Next video can yiu do some switch games?
Switch video is coming tomorrow!
All the offs geeeee whhiizzz. 4:16
What was up with that Super Famicom that had controllers with just green and yellow buttons?
so sick
I'd love to have anywhere like this where I'm from in the UK, But sadly I don't. 😢
I'd spend hours it that place.
Great video.
Loads of great retro stores here in the U.K.
might try to go there to see if i can find a psx ps2 limited console in a good condition
super jelly
Missed that city.... We used to live in Hachioji MInamino.
I saw that sign and the name clicked. I recognized book off.
I couldn't make out the sticker, how much was that Ninja Ryukenden Tomoe in the glass case?
Liquor off is the funniest store name ever, I have heard about the Epoch system but never actually seen it upclose.
Cassette tapes man I must have been like 5 or 6 years old when my brother had a Commodore64.
Those loading sounds XD..
I've actually never played a C64 in my life, I have very little experience with retro PCs
Curious, how long was the walk from train station to hard off store ?
Great haul Jim
About a 20 minute walk, maybe a little more
Hi Jim, how long was the walk from Hachioji station to that specific Book Off ???
a little over 20 minutes
Nice video man, as always! I've asked you before, but i "loose" the answer, do you work with/or sell the games worldwide?
Right now I'm only shipping games via my Patreon page
LoL! Chug-li Puerto Rican cousin. That's awesome.
awesome
Fun fact: 'Wild Roid 9' was also the working title for the ninth Fast & Furious title.
Will go to this place in August if you left anything for me... I'm more complete in box. That wondermega is calling me. The inside of the boxes are called "trays", "Cartridge Trays" Jim. lol.
I left a few games behind
Great video, I really like to spend hours in a Hard Off, do sure.
DBZ Legends is a must own! Especially for the Sega Saturn! I own the PS version and sold the my Saturn along with that game. I regret it now. 😢
there was a time that i think the perosn of this channel was the same person or a relative of mark from classsic game room, the voice and the looks remind me of him
Yes Yes Yes
OMG This is the first video I've seen of you in awhile!!!! When did you rebrand from Kid Shoriuken to this? Why was my sub not updated? I have questions! Good to find you again though
Just changed to MPG a few weeks ago, just wanted to try something new and collaborate with some other people on artwork, editing, music etc.
@@MadPanicGaming love it
4:56 she sounds like the marvel vs capcom lady that say ‘ready!’ Or ‘capcom presents’
Usually when buying second hand games the cleanest and complete are the most desired, so it was very accurate to see a yellowed Super Famicom priced higher than the more refreshed Super Famicoms. When we hear the word 'depreciation' we know the value of something is declining, and this makes me wonder how big videogame companies estimate how long their products will last before they are worth nothing. Since the secondary market determines the market value of the old products (Hard Offs), do we videogame collectors get to dictate the salvage value by default?
I have to assume so. They'll charge what we're willing to pay. I do know that Hard Off is franchised, so prices vary from one location to another.
Next Episode, Jim takes her to pound town
That Nigh of the living dead shirt is off the charts
Always a classic
What is the fighting game your friend was talking about with Naruto vs one piece va dbz ? Great content wish I could visit and get lost in all that goodness.
It's called Battle Stadium D.O.N. and it's a Smash style game with DBZ, One Piece, and Naruto characters.
"Virtual Boy"! Too bad there isn't Nester's Funky bowling in Japan. lol
hey man whats the intro song called it sounds sick
I want that star blazers game
I sold my wondermega Sega with the box for 1300€ a few months ago. It is an amazing console but I can’t keep it because I don’t use it, obviously I am more into the Saturn and the Dreamcast than the Megadrive or any variation of the 16bit
muito legal as lojas dessa região também faço caçada gamer
Awesome! Japan games rules!
😃😄 hai mr i from INDONESIA 🇮🇩🙏 i love vintange console because i am 80s 90s kids 😁 so cool your conten i love it 😎😎😍😍😍😍
i can't believe tap game still in japan in malaysia is hard to find it
Im going to be in tokyo in 2 months what hard offs do you recommend I check out?
Hachioji, Tachikawa, Akishima, Hamura
@@MadPanicGaming thanks!
I hoped you look into more psp/nds games
Wow they have really decent prices compared to the USA
Destiny seems super cool I hope she found some cool games
She did indeed, filled up a basket
Is it possible for a foreigner to sell cds at a Book Off ? Do they buy the stuff at good price ?
I've never sold anything there but I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.
You need be Japanese resident, they ask documents.
@@isamuominae sigh… thanks for the info
The game & watch lcd games for ¥5500 are quite underprized. They sell like hotcakes for €50-90 on ebay and mostly less well preserved too.
Hi bro.
I want you that you find me a PC Engine Duo and send it to me. How can we do this?
Was Destiny there for Wrestle Kingdom???
I think I remember you mentioned that you were changing the name of your channel. I'll miss Kidshoryuken. I gotta get used to "Mad Panic Gaming", as it just doesn't sound right or have any uniqueness to it. But I love your content all the same. Good luck to you, and I'll keep watching if you keep doing what you do.😄
Is it possible to find english region versions of games in japan?
Yes, sometimes. It's rare to find English retro games, but modern games in English are pretty easy to come by.
just had to get her to say 'liquor-off' didn't you? hahaha. may have to import one of the bomberman games on SFC! definitely some good stuff there. I think my SFC holy grail at the moment is Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius! emulated the PSX original and enjoyed it a lot, though I think a legit copy of it goes for quite a lot! so if I have to settle for the SFC port then so be it, I don't think there's that much different between it and the PSX/Saturn versions??
Hmm, I mean there's a step down in visuals and audio, but it's still looks and sounds good, and the gameplay is solid.
@@MadPanicGaming oh most likely yeah and I think there were extra playable characters in the PS/Saturn versions? but with my budget it's the one I could more easily afford haha, so I'll take it.
5:18 is that i wonder if thats michael Jackson's moonwalker with thriller or the revision with another part of me
nice👍
Intro beat ?
Prices here seem pretty high compared to yahoo japan auctions, tho. But I gotta hit up these hard offs
next time you have issues with the game locks. just ask the store owner . you're video is technically free advertisement. I'm sure the owner would be glad to let you see things if they knows it will draw more business to their shop.
Are those ps2 games new or used?
